we only got the reminants of Ike up here, but we’re on the natural wetlands and w/ all the new houses going in we have no natural drainage left so its just pooling. and flooding basements.

in the last 13 games played by the Brewers, they are 3-10, haveing scored a miniscule 37 runs while giving up 69. Their starters tanking and the bullpen being, well, the Brewer bull pen, along with their big boppers becoming little boppers, did them in.
I’m just saying the “best offense in college football” debate is still to be answered. Last week, Oklahoma demolished a team that was a good bowl team last year. So, they might be able to keep up.
I don't think a team that's been to the championship the last two years
is gonna be “bad” this year. When I think of “bad”, I think of Baylor, Minnesota, or Nebraska last year. I don’t think of Ohio State. USC is fucking great. That’s the situation.
But I’ll put it this way: I don’t see Ohio State being a “great” team this year. I have been thoroughly unimpressed with anything Ohio State has done this year. Last year happened last year. Show me something this year.
Except:
—Tennessee sucks this year
—Florida is overrated
—Auburn has an offense that finds a way to gain 300 yards and score three points
—LSU has no QB
the cubs tend to score a few runs early and stop hitting toward the end of the game allowing the other team to start coming back. hopefully this isn’t the case today
The 1,000-ounce beer shower left a pair of victims in its sudsy wake. First, the poor carpet at Miller Park, which for the foreseeable future will reek of eau de frat house. And then the intended target, Carlos Zambrano, who soaked in the 3½ cases lavished on him by his Chicago Cubs teammates following the most improbable, incredible night of his life.
Just finished reading about the whole saga of the Astros feeling cheated by the relocation to Miller Park...
And here’s what I have to say. What are they angry about?
Zambrano was going to mow them down any place, any time, with the stuff he had. 12 days off obviously helped as the radar gun would indicate. You can’t tell me they honestly think they were going to beat him at their own park.
Are they just angry because of the humiliation of being no-hit (that’s almost as bad as suffering 20 K’s, hee-hee)? If that’s the real issue, then they should have been drag-bunting in the 9th just to make their point. They could have just claimed the game was being played on unfair terms and they wanted to break up the no-no because it wasn’t legitimate. Since the manager left his starters in and they were all playing honorably, I think there’s no issue. They just got dominated, period.
They’re saying thigns like “The Astros were tired from having to travel and evacuate their families” and “This wouldn’t have happened at the juice box”
I guess that’s the difference between a 1-hitter and a no-hitter. Tired opponents.
If the Astros just simply lost a regular 6 hit game, they would have room to complain but when a profesional ball club doesnt get a single hit off a pitcher, you cant complain about anything
there would be nothing better for the confidence of the cubs than for lilly to go a complete game shutout, smooth sailing after that to the world series!
how difficult it is to catch a bus after a game at Wrigley? I have a tight connection at O’Hare Saturday since they moved the game back so I’m wondering about the 152 westbound. Thanks
Can you bring cameras into Wrigley? I would assume so…
Goin to Wrigley this weekend for the first time in 3+ years, and my dad in 6+. Sittin with Al one day. Borrowed a digital SLR to take into the game…that’s alright, correct?
one of the Cardinals/Pirates game was announced as having a crowd of 14000, which the Cardinal announcers said was closer to 1400. Quite the difference.
Ridiculously one-sided anti-Cub, in my view. Plus, Amy Nelson seemed to bring absolutely no new information as to how Miller Park got the games — the chatters knew more about the situation than she did.
Most hilarious was the Sox fan who felt the need to chime in with his conspiracy theory that the Cubs purposefully scheduled the game at the same time as the White Sox-Tigers game to draw viewership away. Conspiracy theory, anyone?
Finally, I am starting to hope that the Astros rebound, get the wildcard, and that the Cubs wind up seeing them in the post-season. I have never really disliked them, but all the whining about a situation that was caused (or at least made worse) by their own management is leaving a really bad taste in my mouth.
The Milwaukee Brewers today announced that Ned Yost has been dismissed from his position as manager of the Club. The announcement was made by Brewers Executive Vice President and General Manager, Doug Melvin.
“This was a very difficult move to make, and we appreciate all of the work that Ned has done to develop this team into a contender,” Melvin said. “In the end, this was a collaborative decision made to put our Club in the best position for the final two weeks of the season.”
Dale Sveum, the Brewers third base coach, will take over in an interim role as manager for the remainder of the season. Bench Coach Ted Simmons has been reassigned to an advisory role. Any other coaching changes will be announced later.
From what i’ve noticed the Brewers haven’t had much of a manager so it’s hard to imagine it would get worse for them. I mean who fires a manager in the middle of a wild card chase?

We have the best offense in college football right now. Chase has thrown more TDs than incompletions the past two games combined.
nji232 - September 15, 2008
Okay, calm down
It was only Nevada. Y’all still have to get through the rest of the Big XII…

That said, I’m a South Carolina fan, so you know we’re not going to challenge you guys this year ;)
cocknfire - September 15, 2008
I'm just being an arrogant ass about it because Missouri sucks at life
We choke more than the Cubs.
nji232 - September 15, 2008
Then again...
…USC just put up 35 straight on a Ohio State team that is gonna have anywhere from 8-12 NFL players drafted next year. I’d say USC is a close 2nd.
dtpollitt - September 15, 2008
I'd say USC has to be #1
Until proven otherwise. They have history and they have proof (demolishing tOSU)
sanantonecub - September 15, 2008
Um...
Sorry, Ohio State is just bad this year.
They barely beat Ohio and just got their defense got their ass handed to them by an offense that was supposed to be the weak part of the Trojans.
I don’t see USC being able to put up 50+ ppg this year. I think Mizzou could.
cocknfire - September 15, 2008
I don't think a team that's been to the championship the last two years
is gonna be “bad” this year. When I think of “bad”, I think of Baylor, Minnesota, or Nebraska last year. I don’t think of Ohio State. USC is fucking great. That’s the situation.
dtpollitt - September 15, 2008
Okay, maybe "bad" was a poor choice of words
But I’ll put it this way: I don’t see Ohio State being a “great” team this year. I have been thoroughly unimpressed with anything Ohio State has done this year. Last year happened last year. Show me something this year.
cocknfire - September 15, 2008
USC starts a freakin NFL D and has what 5 RB's that look great
They have an awesome team. most complete team in the country. OU is second in that category.
nji232 - September 15, 2008
i was very impressed by USC's defense
they flew around. unbelievably fast.
halfblindcubbiegirl - September 15, 2008
Don't disagree with you on most complete
But best offense? No
cocknfire - September 15, 2008
USC D vs. Mizzou O
That will be a treat in January.
nji232 - September 15, 2008
Don't you have to beat OU first?
sanantonecub - September 15, 2008
No we hope that somebody (Texas Tech)
bails us out and beats them. If we have to play OU we lose. Plain and simple.
nji232 - September 15, 2008
At least you admit it
I just wonder how the best offense in NCAAF can lose to anyone?
sanantonecub - September 15, 2008
Bc we are Mizzou and they are Oklahoma
We can’t beat them, I don’t know why. It happens in every sport recently.
nji232 - September 15, 2008
Eh, I'm not sure you would lose this year
But I think Texas Tech should beat the Sooners, rendering the point moot
cocknfire - September 15, 2008
That would be the ideal situation for me
Arrowhead (a home game for us) against Texas Tech, the one team Gary Pinkel has always beaten.
nji232 - September 15, 2008
"Only team Gary Pinkel has always beaten"
Aren’t you risking reversion to the mean? ;)
cocknfire - September 15, 2008
Yeah knowing Mizzou and Pinkel
We would lose to Tech. I don’t even want to think about it.
nji232 - September 15, 2008
If USC doesn't pull one of its patented brain farts
Then it’s Georgia vs. Mizzou, which is the game I want to see.
But if SC’s defense keeps going, yeah, it’s going to be Trojans and Tigers.
cocknfire - September 15, 2008
you think georgia really survives the SEC?
b/c its going to be tough.
halfblindcubbiegirl - September 15, 2008
Agree in principle
Except:
—Tennessee sucks this year
—Florida is overrated
—Auburn has an offense that finds a way to gain 300 yards and score three points
—LSU has no QB
So it’s doable.
cocknfire - September 15, 2008
I hate Georgia
I just think they can run the table this year.
cocknfire - September 15, 2008
Florida is still really young
but I think they’re very good.
I haven’t seen LSU yet. Waiting for conference play to start. I cant get into college FB until then.
halfblindcubbiegirl - September 15, 2008
I think Florida's good
But they’re not NC ready.
Even Matthew Stafford should be able to throw for 250-300 yards against that secondary.
cocknfire - September 15, 2008
oh, i don't thik they'll challenge for the title
but running the table in the SEC is hard.
We’ll see though. should be a good season to watch. (I’ve completely given up on the Big 10 ever being fun and athletic like the rest of college FB)
halfblindcubbiegirl - September 15, 2008
Now, now
Y’all have Juice Williams. (He might not be able to pass, but he can run.)
And plenty of other athletic players, like…
Juice Williams.

Jerry Mumphrey - September 15, 2008
Some people aren't giving Zambrano credit
They’re saying thigns like “The Astros were tired from having to travel and evacuate their families” and “This wouldn’t have happened at the juice box”
I guess that’s the difference between a 1-hitter and a no-hitter. Tired opponents.
daeviant - September 15, 2008

malicedoom - September 15, 2008
wow lilly has brought the K machine today
philadelphiacub - September 15, 2008
Did anyone see the ESPN chat about last night?
SuperContext - September 15, 2008
Gotta love the fact this would piss ANY White Sux fans off...
…when THEIR team was sweeping a double-header and getting a 1.5 game lead on first place. How sad is that?
malicedoom - September 15, 2008
One of my roommates had a perfect sports day
Sox win, Bucs win. Then the Big Z no-hitter comes through and his day was ruined. Its just a sad and awesome thing to see.
nji232 - September 15, 2008
Meh.
Let everyone else vent their frustrations, I don’t care. It won’t change the fact that Z threw a no-hitter. :)
hip2bsquare - September 15, 2008

Astros are hacking mad
do the Astros think their plane is leaving at 3:30?
From the box score, it looks like Lilly is Koufax today. Is he that filthy, or are the Stros still sleepy?

hokie316 - September 15, 2008
Trying to make up for last night, perhaps
Their hitting coach needs to remind them that they can’t get two hits with one swing.
hip2bsquare - September 15, 2008
I can so beat you in wiffle ball by the way
graceunderpressure - September 15, 2008
Um, 1 out in the top of the 4th and already NINE strikeouts for both teams combined.
Damn.
malicedoom - September 15, 2008
Well, the Astros are still tired from their 37.5 hour flight to Milwaukee
I don’t know what the Cubs’ excuse is…
cocknfire - September 15, 2008

brewers.com
RIOTSHIRTS.com - September 15, 2008
Will this fire up the Brewers
Or will they get lost?
daeviant - September 15, 2008
wow
that really could go either way…may loosen them up. they’ve probably been gripping so tight they’re about to burst
Lemonhead99 - September 15, 2008
WOW. It's real. From the Brewers own website:
Zeke - September 15, 2008
wow
Blaze22 - September 15, 2008
EDMONDS
Blaze22 - September 15, 2008
From what i’ve noticed the Brewers haven’t had much of a manager so it’s hard to imagine it would get worse for them. I mean who fires a manager in the middle of a wild card chase?
Villeslgr - September 15, 2008
a team
that mutinies on the manager in the middle of a meltdown?
