I am the embarrasing brother in law (ie Billy Carter). I have no intellect, credentials, or money and am likely to be found on my front porch drinking beer.
it’s the first inning, people. I don’t think it should have been unlikely to anyone that Z would be a little tight today. And we have a freakin NINE GAME LEAD.
its probably so the fans can celebrate the division with the team. If the Cubs win today and the Brewers lose, well the players will all either be home or watching it together at Wrigley, someones house or a restaurant.
If the Cubs lose and the Brewers lose, well when the Cubs win tomorrow that’ll be that.
First the whiney Astros in Miller Park, then the Brewers, followrd by the Cards. No way the schedule makers should put STL and MIL in back to back series at home in September. It’s exciting and irritating at the same time.
I can’t help but feel that if he could learn to control his emotions he’d be the best pitcher in the league. Instead, he insists on riling himself up at every opportunity.
The 12-inch softball pitcher on the team I played against last night. We hit the inning-max in runs (7) one inning without a hit. She couldn’t throw a strike to save her life. I took four walks in that game and am not that good.
Co-ed rec league. There is a plate, as well as a foot and a halfish long mat behind it. That makes the entire thing like a long rectangle.
As long as the pitch meets a certain height requirement and hits a piece of the plate OR the mat it is considered a strike. Thus, when a pitch is not a strike it is really, really bad.
The ones who sit there and take pitches are the ones I throw two juicy strikes down the middle of the plate and get ahead 0-2. Then when they figure they have to swing, I throw crap inside and they stirke out swinging or pop up to the thirdbaseman
If you are a mediocre middle infielder who hits lots of foul balls. They love you. If you are Alfonso Soriano, you have offended them somehow and must be mocked every chance possible.
He's a real horse's ass. I am ashamed to admit it, but I lived in St. louis
for 10 years. (I know, I know). I met him on a couple of occasions and he acted like he was god’s gift and everyone else was shit. Not a nice individual.

The 12-inch softball pitcher on the team I played against last night. We hit the inning-max in runs (7) one inning without a hit. She couldn’t throw a strike to save her life. I took four walks in that game and am not that good.

Walking in softball means you care WAY to much

Hilary Lee - September 19, 2008
OK...so in all four of you AB...there wasn't a SINGLE hittable pitch?
santoswoodenlegs - September 19, 2008
Well
Several of them would have hit me had I not moved out of the way, and those were the ones that actually made it in the vicinity of the strike mat.
Hilary Lee - September 19, 2008
strike mat?
I don’t understand softball at all.
drewishdrewid - September 19, 2008
That's where they put a mat behind the plate and if the ball hits it it's a strike.
willie mays hayes' gloves - September 19, 2008
even if it bounces in front of the plate?
drewishdrewid - September 19, 2008
Yeah like cricket. Of course not!
willie mays hayes' gloves - September 19, 2008
It's 12 inch
Co-ed rec league. There is a plate, as well as a foot and a halfish long mat behind it. That makes the entire thing like a long rectangle.

As long as the pitch meets a certain height requirement and hits a piece of the plate OR the mat it is considered a strike. Thus, when a pitch is not a strike it is really, really bad.
Hilary Lee - September 19, 2008
santoswoodenlegs - September 19, 2008
I don't evne know what that is
Hilary Lee - September 19, 2008
it's like an ump that can't make mistakes?
drewishdrewid - September 19, 2008
Basically
But there’s an ump there too to judge height and whether or not the ball actually hits the mat.
Hilary Lee - September 19, 2008
where does this ump stand?
drewishdrewid - September 19, 2008
Behind
And to the opposite side of whereever the batter is
Hilary Lee - September 19, 2008
now
I really don’t understand.
drewishdrewid - September 19, 2008
What don't you get?
Hilary Lee - September 19, 2008
just trying to picture it.
so the mat is right behind the plate, in line with the pitcher.
The ump switches sides depending on what side the batter bats from?
drewishdrewid - September 19, 2008
yes...so he can see the plate and mat.
santoswoodenlegs - September 19, 2008
you got it.
willie mays hayes' gloves - September 19, 2008
okay...
I guess… if the ump is there, why do you need the mat?
drewishdrewid - September 19, 2008
Because that IS the strikezone...
santoswoodenlegs - September 19, 2008
ok...
drewishdrewid - September 19, 2008
The only thing
that the ump has discretion over is the height of the pitch… other than that it’s pretty obvious if it is a strike or not.
Hilary Lee - September 19, 2008
no..now your just being an ass...
santoswoodenlegs - September 19, 2008

The ones who sit there and take pitches are the ones I throw two juicy strikes down the middle of the plate and get ahead 0-2. Then when they figure they have to swing, I throw crap inside and they stirke out swinging or pop up to the thirdbaseman

willie mays hayes' gloves - September 19, 2008
Which one?
neverAcquiesce - September 19, 2008
Hrabowsky. A real nasty guy. People were coming up to him him at a Hooter's asking for his autograph
and he was just ignoring them. I mean, he wasn’t exactly a superstar but he acted like a real primadonna.
willie mays hayes' gloves - September 19, 2008
I totally get that vibe.
Good riddance.
neverAcquiesce - September 19, 2008
I guess the big - fish little - pond theory really applies there.
willie mays hayes' gloves - September 19, 2008
clearly they didn't watch yesterday's game
Emelie - September 19, 2008
They are idiots
nji232 - September 19, 2008
Just WALKED THE PITCHER
malicedoom - September 19, 2008
'Just' feels left out for not being in CAPS
Lou In Blue - September 19, 2008
Walking the pitcher is not a way to keep the other team from scoring...Baseball tip #7
Cub's Paperboy - September 19, 2008
Baseball is such a fickle game.
sue369 - September 19, 2008
drewishdrewid - September 19, 2008
Please stop walking guys
Mapmaker - September 19, 2008
Sometimes you get picled and sometimes the pickle gets you!
Cub's Paperboy - September 19, 2008
Sounds painful
Lou In Blue - September 19, 2008
and sometimes you get just plain pickled!
Emelie - September 19, 2008
I'm in...just say where
sue369 - September 19, 2008
How was that not a strike?
Weeghman Park - September 19, 2008
Umpire is blind.
zevkalman - September 19, 2008
Another BB
ryno HOF 2005 - September 19, 2008
That's on Blue, not Marshall.
zevkalman - September 19, 2008
This strike zone is interesting, to say the least
Z was pretty wild, but I do think he got hosed on a couple of calls.
Not Bruce Froemming - September 19, 2008
Angel Guzman starts to warm
nji232 - September 19, 2008
isn't this Howry time?
Bill Potter - September 19, 2008
With an 8 run lead
Why wouldn’t this idiot be calling everything a strike?
Mapmaker - September 19, 2008
Wind is still blowing out, right?
We are still in this.
DWChaney - September 19, 2008
of course, the Cards would get to hit in the same wind....
DWChaney - September 19, 2008
Gameday shows dead Center at 8 mph
Cub's Paperboy - September 19, 2008
I bet Marshall throws Pujols at least 2 strikes...
santoswoodenlegs - September 19, 2008
Man, this is a trainwreck.
Maybe Lou should bring in Randy Wells again to settle things down.
daver - September 19, 2008
He's so money
Mapmaker - September 19, 2008
well… they didn’t score this inning. That’s a step forward.
drewishdrewid - September 19, 2008
Baby steps.
daver - September 19, 2008
ehh these games happen, maybe its a positive that z didnt go 6-7 innings, 100 pitches
let him rest, let some of the regulars rest for the game, maybe get dome some at bats
CubsBall2202 - September 19, 2008
Sounds good to me.
Know how to get hold of Lou?
sue369 - September 19, 2008
They do happen...
…but I guarantee the conspiracy theorists will be screaming.
daver - September 19, 2008
ya normally id be that conspiracy theorist
but sometimes horrible blowouts happen, just come back tomorrow and take it to them, in the meantime Go Reds!
CubsBall2202 - September 19, 2008
Yeah!
No runs given up this inning…it’s a start!
Cub's Paperboy - September 19, 2008
See we took care of Pujols no problem
They didn’t score for once.
nji232 - September 19, 2008
Is it our turn to get runs yet?
santoswoodenlegs - September 19, 2008
Yes
wnielsen - September 19, 2008
Yes. lots of them too.
sue369 - September 19, 2008
This is why it's a 162 game season.
It’s just one game and it’s not even over yet.
Weeghman Park - September 19, 2008
And just a week ago
we lost the first game of the series with the Cardinals.
neverAcquiesce - September 19, 2008
+1,000,000
But man, has Carlos forgotten he used to own the Cards? Or if not outright own, he at least leased them with an option to own.
SplintChesthair - September 19, 2008
the housing bubble has popped.
significantly dropped value. He just doesn’t want to be AIG.
drewishdrewid - September 19, 2008

SplintChesthair - September 19, 2008

malicedoom - September 19, 2008

xene - September 19, 2008
Sure, a couple of runs in a couple of innings, and we're back in this
Someone’s going to go yard. I’m thinking JEdmonds, Fonzie and Rammy.
DWChaney - September 19, 2008
Time 2 put up a snowman (8)!
ryno HOF 2005 - September 19, 2008
