If he PHs Ronny early, then he double switches DeRo out and leaves himself with no MI.
Now, he uses his 4th OF early, then double switches out his other CF. I don’t like the idea of Dome playing CF when he is struggling so much with his swing.
That was hit very well, just at someone – and the Astros did everything EXACTLY right to get that DP. 80% of time we probably score a run on that ball, hit that way.
I love D-Lee, but he has Dale Murphy disease. He is substantially worse than the 38 year old version of Fred McGriff we had… and I’m pretty sure that McGriff had technically retired at that point.
…he’s not that much “worse” than he has been throughout his career. I think we were spoiled by his MVP-run in 2005. His career OPS+ is 123, whereas this year it is 112. Don’t forget, he’s a Gold Glove first baseman. I get a bit pissy at all the D.Lee naysayers.
than anyone else on the team. He gets more opportunities to hit with men on base than just about anyone else. His previous GIDP high was 18 in 2001, and now he’s got 25. That is significantly more, but let’s be real people. He’s lock-solid at first base – would you rather have another defender @ 1B in a tight game? He’s a field general and one of the best guys on the team. But if you wanna look at stats, give the whole picture, damnit.
Isn’t he top 5 in league in driving in game-winning runs or whatever that defunct stat was called? It isn’t a late-game clutch issue, let’s not confuse it. The guy just hits a ton of GP and, unfortunately, it is harder to stomach because he is no longer the 30 HR guy he was. I mean his numbers are basically the same as DeRosa’s.
It seems as though we just can’t beat some teams consistently. I would lump the astros in that bunch. It appears that Lee (albeit injured), Pence, Tejada, and whoever their catcher is (Ausmus, new guy, whoever they start) just owns the cubs. They get up to play us. Period. I look forward to being done with this series. Yuck.
Lee should be down in the order. Riot should bat #2 and play SS. He’s having his career year, and his defense isn’t so horrible that a change is necessary.
I’d say “Look, I don’t care what you hit at AAA, you are to choke up and make contact. Forget the hero crap and just take a nice, sweet swing and make contact.”
But the Cubs are notorious for swooning. There is no curse, but when things start going bad, it seems to get into players’ heads (Alex Gonzalez, cough!).
this team is as complete as we’ve seen in a long time. I’ve absolutely ZERO worries that a losing streak of four or five games negates the hard work done over the past 4 months.
You make an "ass" out of "u" and "me" when you assume
I never said any such thing, in fact, I won’t even talk playoffs until we are assured to be in them, with an opponent. But I do not want to say “Gosh, gee, jolly, we have a 4.5 game lead, that’s okay!” We still have 6 games against the Cards, 3 against the Mets, and 6 against the Brewers. I want to WIN now and BIG so we aren’t scoreboard watching 24/7 come late September.
As in, a projection of runs scored for a team depending on various lineups? I had it bookmarked at one point, but it seem to have escaped both my mind and my bookmarks.
Scoring the runner from third or from first... hmm.
You act like Lee is hitting like Casey McGehee here, when he’s a well above-average hitter on the year, just not a spectacular hitter like he was before.
Haven’t been on here tonight so maybe already said but does it seem like we play extra innings against Astros more than any other team especially in like September.
He’s not done yet, but he’s getting there. I know that Hendry is probably scouting replacements at this point, but I just can’t stand having such a mediocre offensive 1B for the next couple years.
I think he’s just unlucky with where he’s hitting the ball. He’s hitting them hard…the problem is it’s at people. Give him some time….Lee will turn it around
He’s ABOVE his pace for his career averages in R, H, RBI, BB, SO, and AVG. He’s on pace for his career averages in 2B, 3B, OBP, SB, and TB. He’s below his pace for his career averages in HR, SLG, OPS+, and GIDP, with only homers and double plays being real significant.
What the hell do you think you’re getting with Derrek Lee? Hmm? Please share with the group. It fascinates me to hear people bitch about Derrek Lee. His 2005 campaign for MVP was an anomaly, or at least the alignment of the “best” of what D-Lee can do in one season. He’s never hit more than 32 homers or had 100+ RBI sans that 2005 season.
And I haven’t even moved onto his stellar defense. Please. Stop it.
it would allow the rest of us to get on with actually cheering for our team. You’re blocking our view, what with being in front of the window, on the ledge and all.
no hard feelings, man. I really don’t care if you agree with me or not. But a loss like this can have a big effect on momentum — and that’s what many of us are rightfully worried about.
A win would’ve been nice – and could still occur, I might add. But if they don’t win, nothing changes in the standings. And, hey, at least the Cubs broked their “nothin’ but singles” streak tonight.
In a big spot, D-Lee is our worst hitter, and the only Cub in the lineup who you’d really feel OK facing. Even more so than Kosuke.
I don’t know what happened to him, but I know that it also happened to Ryne Sandberg. He just doesn’t have it anymore. Hendry is smart, and I’m sure that he’s already aware of this.
In the meantime, he needs to be batting 7th or 8th. Of course, that would be insulting to such a formerly good hitter, so 6th may be the most you can push him down the lineup. He’s just completely powerless, and he shrinks from every big situation. He’s not useless, but he’s getting there.
why not send up a guy to bunt in the 10th with 2 on and none out?
why allow Howry to implode again in the 6th?
why keep letting Lee bat with runners on when he can’t buy a hit???
But if the Cubs can’t come back on Valverde this one is completely on Lou and the lineup’s inability to hit anything with runners on base before Theriot came through in the 6th…
1. Howry pitching at all
2. Howry still pitching with the bases loaded and nobody out
3. DeRosa bunting in the 8th
And I can’t stand Valverde!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
that hit isnt going to happen everytime. Just hope it happens next time. Honestly, those guys should have been moved over by soriano earlier in the inning
Mediocre starting pitching
Horrible or inconsistent starting pitching
Terrible defense at least in the late innings
Pathetic hitting with runners in scoring position
Losing any game to the Astros when Brandon Backe starts this season is pretty sad.
Thank God for the Mets tonight!
I was telling my wife tonight in the midst or my ranting that if they have to have a few games when they don’t have it together, better this month than next month.
In the back of their minds – and mine as well, I confess – they’re thinking “Gosh, you know I said in 1984 that this was the year, because they were playing so well and looked like nothing could stop them, but then they blew it. Then came 1989 and I thought ‘THIS is definitely the year’ but they blew it again. Then we got all five outs from the pennant in 2003, and they blew it yet again! Everytime they look like they’re finally going to do it they still end up coming up short”.
I know it’s annoying to be a troll and all, and I’m sorry if I sound like one now. I’m just saying that I understand what’s called the ledge-jumper mentality.
An optimist looks at the glass and sees it half-full. A pessimist looks at the glass and sees it half-empty. A Cubs fan looks at the glass and waits for it to tip over and shatter.
One repeatedly expects and hopes for an outcome that would seem to reasonably happen, but in each instance it doesn’t happen. So instead one expects the outcome to not happen, or for something to come along and dash hope again.
What I tell myself when I get to thinking this way is that 1) nothing is ever guaranteed; 2) the incidences are in no way connected to each other; 3) the instances of the event are too few and far between for a meaningful pattern to show itself; 4) go watch the Red Sox instead.
Just like HBCG said, they are double counted. If Riot strikes out with the bases juiced, and then that happens twice more, that’s 9 men left on base for that inning. Or 3. Which one is true?
No. I'm pissed about the game (which I mainly followed from Miller Park)
I’m pissed about Lou’s dumbass moves, I’m pissed about Z. So forgive me:
This is stupid. If Soriano doubles to start an inning, Theriot grounds to second to move him over, you count that as a LOB and an unproductive out? Then Lee hits a sac fly, and that’s not a productive out?
But the way you phrased your comments, it sounded like that was part of the post game discussion with Lou, which it was not. And most people here watch the games locally in Chicago, and especially after a loss, turn off the TV. Usually someone stays and gives the post game review with the press. And if a player is injured, it is important to report accurate information. That’s all. No biggie.
I really don't mind bitching about bad players, bad plays, and overall crappiness.
It’s the guys n gals that come out of the woodwork just to discuss these things that bother me. And most of them don’t have their facts straight. Argue facts and that’s perfectly acceptable. Ignorant claims are not.
In the minors – small sample – he’s got 4 ER in 10 innings of work. And his longest session in the Majors this year has been only 4.1 innings, but overall a 3.43 ERA in 44.7 IP. Not too bad.
Not sure if Lieber is ready for a starting role, considering he hasn’t been stretched out this year, but he could probably give us 5 IP of decent work. Maybe it’s a good time to rest Zambrano for a few weeks? Luckily we have guys like Gaudin, Marshall, Lieber, and someone else I’m forgetting that could fill a few starts. Guess we have to first find out how series Zambrano is hurt.
Sunday…..pressed into starting last minute pitches 5 and 1/3 and gives up 5…not his best stuff …but ate up innings
8/16 5 inninsg vs. FL…2 ER’s…Cubs lost 2-1 Close to a quality start
7/6 VS St. Louis 1 ER 6 innings …got the win
6/29 VS. CWS 7 IP 3 ER’s….quality start
6/24 VS> Baltimore 4 and 2/3 4 ER’s Bad start
So, I count 3 good starts and on 15 ER’s in 28 innings …..and this is all spot starting…no routine, rythem, etc. and pitching innings out of the bullpen in relief as needed in between.
This was one of those games you thought they would lose
I blame a lot of this on DLee. He needs to be moved down in the order. I love him and I am not saying he should be traded etc. He does not come through in clutch situations. Bases loaded with one out and your number three grounds into a double play? I could forgive him if it were a rare occurance but it happens all the time. Lou needs to take charge and move him down for the sake of the team. He is hurting us in the 3 spot. As a fan for 20 plus years I am getting that sick “cubby feeling”.

lostinthevines - September 2, 2008
That is a made up number - it's gotta be.
lostinthevines - September 2, 2008

that ball was hit well. Blum made a nice play to his left and Berkman made one the best digs you’ll see all year.
Bill Potter - September 2, 2008
However - his preponderance
for Hitting grounders in these situations is really troubling by this point.
The E-Man - September 2, 2008
OK fine...
He hit it really hard, right at somebody… Still was a DP.
HIS 25th DP this season. That is just ridiculous.
Ross - September 2, 2008
I think he is tied with Tejada and Vlad for the league lead.
Those are two damn good hitters that also hit lots of DPs.
LAcarl519 - September 2, 2008
80% of the time I make up stats.
tapdeer - September 2, 2008
50% of the time it works every time
lostinthevines - September 2, 2008

And one of those Jacob's Ladder things
lostinthevines - September 2, 2008
it's FrahnkenSHTEEN!
lostinthevines - September 2, 2008
Bob and Len made a big deal about Tejada leading the league (and 2nd in the majors) in DPs
and he has hit into 25. Guess who just tied him for the lead in that all important category?
tapdeer - September 2, 2008
DLee was almost as upset as me . . . .. dang it
West Coast Diehard - September 2, 2008
did you throw your helmet?
ChicagoRalph - September 2, 2008
Don't worry, guys. Ramy with a walk-off in the 9th...
DeRoMyHero - September 2, 2008
maybe Dero or Soto or Edmonds, but not Aram. He is cold.
tapdeer - September 2, 2008
Edmonds' name is currently Marmol.
Ramy, DeRo, or Soto…

Madison Cub Fan - September 2, 2008

drewishdrewid - September 2, 2008
I bet Hoffpauir could have at least hit a flyball there or struck out, anything that doesnt involve
making 2 outs with 1 swing which is derrek’s trademark
CubsBall2202 - September 2, 2008
Hoff
is not clutch.
drewishdrewid - September 2, 2008
We don't know that. We know Derrek no longer is.
tapdeer - September 2, 2008
It hurts to even read that
lostinthevines - September 2, 2008
Yeah, and I think Howry becomes our closer and Ward starts playing catcher
dtpollitt - September 2, 2008
Whatcha Tryin' To Say, DT?
CaliCub - September 2, 2008
i don't understand....
if you are having trouble with runners in scoring position, and he has walked the bases loaded, you swing at 1-0? WTF lee? you lead the league in DPs
Zakh - September 2, 2008
Geeze....step into one
kcjones - September 2, 2008
Haha, My Thoughts Also
Take one for the team like Victorino did.
CaliCub - September 2, 2008
I love you DLEE
but you are not a 3-hole hitter anymore. The DP MAchine!
The E-Man - September 2, 2008
It boggles my mind
I see Lee’s stats, and I know what he’s done, yet some how I cannot get the double plays out of my head. It’s painful to cheer for him this year.
dtpollitt - September 2, 2008
Does any1 have stats handy on DLEE's sluuging pct. compared with the last few years?
TheTruth11 - September 2, 2008
He's 100 points off.
I love D-Lee, but he has Dale Murphy disease. He is substantially worse than the 38 year old version of Fred McGriff we had… and I’m pretty sure that McGriff had technically retired at that point.
D98 - September 2, 2008
This year he is at .463 compared
to a lifetime. 498 His highest was 662 (wow) in 2005
West Coast Diehard - September 2, 2008
In other words...
…he’s not that much “worse” than he has been throughout his career. I think we were spoiled by his MVP-run in 2005. His career OPS+ is 123, whereas this year it is 112. Don’t forget, he’s a Gold Glove first baseman. I get a bit pissy at all the D.Lee naysayers.
dtpollitt - September 2, 2008

Madison Cub Fan - September 2, 2008

Bill Potter - September 2, 2008
Don't Mean To Make You Pissy
But, man, I wish he would stop hitting all those DPs!
CaliCub - September 2, 2008
The guy has more plate appearances
than anyone else on the team. But if you wanna look at stats, give the whole picture, damnit.
dtpollitt - September 2, 2008
Yeah, But When's He Gonna Quit Hitting So Many DPs?
CaliCub - September 2, 2008
Errrr...
…I can’t find “Future Data”.
dtpollitt - September 2, 2008
its like he can't physically the ball in the air anymore
DC Cubbie - September 2, 2008
Lifetime Dlee has a ground ball / fly ball ratio of 1.07
This year its over 1.4. A very big difference and it’s gotten worse as the season has progressed.
West Coast Diehard - September 2, 2008
DLee
sure has mastered the art of the DP.
Kinky Reggae - September 2, 2008
Now Marmol has to pitch another inning
Thanks Derrek. Go Mets for three more outs

Two up, two down so far so good.

DPLee’s numbers don’t look pretty against RHP with the bases loaded.

He did hit that ball hard, though. And at least it wasn’t to the shortstop. (?)

daver - September 2, 2008
Pinch hitting for Lee?
Isn’t he top 5 in league in driving in game-winning runs or whatever that defunct stat was called? It isn’t a late-game clutch issue, let’s not confuse it. The guy just hits a ton of GP and, unfortunately, it is harder to stomach because he is no longer the 30 HR guy he was. I mean his numbers are basically the same as DeRosa’s.
BeltwayCubsFan - September 2, 2008
What's worse
Lee pinch hitting for Hoffpauir or Lou leaving Howry in with 3 runs in, 0 outs and 1 on?
mmancubfan - September 2, 2008
He might be.....
But he’s about 25th in the league in RBI’s and has probably 2nd or 3rd most at bats…and it’s not like those at bats are coming w/the bases empty
kcjones - September 2, 2008
2nd or 3rd most ab's in the NL
kcjones - September 2, 2008
He's horrific with 2 outs and RISP.
As in, 51 OPS+ horrific. He’s a shell of the guy we used to have, and frankly, the Cubs need to start thinking about their 2010 1B.
D98 - September 2, 2008
You are correct about Lee's numbers being the same as DeRo's.
The tough part about that statement is that DeRo’s production comes from several different positions that are all more difficult than 1B.
DeRoMyHero - September 2, 2008
Yes...and also in at least 50 fewer at bats
kcjones - September 2, 2008
And you're forgetting one key point...
this is DeRosa’s CAREER YEAR. This is just business as regular for Lee, sans the GIDPs.

Yuck.

DeRo was 1-1 vs. Wright,

West Coast Diehard - September 2, 2008
OK....so what was he up there then?
kcjones - September 2, 2008
Here's What I'd Do
if I managed and a rookie went into pinch hit:
I’d say “Look, I don’t care what you hit at AAA, you are to choke up and make contact. Forget the hero crap and just take a nice, sweet swing and make contact.”

Better Bullpen This Year
CaliCub - September 2, 2008
better team this year
But the Cubs are notorious for swooning. There is no curse, but when things start going bad, it seems to get into players’ heads (Alex Gonzalez, cough!).
elgato - September 2, 2008
Respectfully disagree
this team is as complete as we’ve seen in a long time. I’ve absolutely ZERO worries that a losing streak of four or five games negates the hard work done over the past 4 months.
Gibbon Jockey - September 2, 2008
I see your point
And this team IS better. The point is, they need to STAY better, and not fall apart when we’re this close.
elgato - September 2, 2008
Exhaustion, Not Mental Weakness, Is Why They're Struggling Of Late
that is if you ask me.
CaliCub - September 2, 2008
depends on the player
D-Lee — exhausted. Kosuke — really hard to tell.
elgato - September 2, 2008
Because this year - 2008 - we aren't settling.
dtpollitt - September 2, 2008
settling for what?
a playoff berth?
I’ll settle for that.
Gibbon Jockey - September 2, 2008
Sigh.
dtpollitt - September 2, 2008
you act like this is a done deal
nothing but the pennant and a world series.
you know as well as I that getting to the playoffs is the first step.
you put your horses before the cart and see where that goes. I’ll settle for hitching up the wagon properly.
Gibbon Jockey - September 2, 2008
You make an "ass" out of "u" and "me" when you assume
I never said any such thing, in fact, I won’t even talk playoffs until we are assured to be in them, with an opponent. But I do not want to say “Gosh, gee, jolly, we have a 4.5 game lead, that’s okay!” We still have 6 games against the Cards, 3 against the Mets, and 6 against the Brewers. I want to WIN now and BIG so we aren’t scoreboard watching 24/7 come late September.
In sum:
No, I never said it was a done deal.
No, I didn’t put my horses before the cart.
And no, I do not own horses. Or a cart.
dtpollitt - September 2, 2008
are you kidding?
Or just being unclear? You’d be happy with a repeat of 2007? Not me.
elgato - September 2, 2008
1) It’s nice to win
2) It’s nice to have a 4.5 game lead. It’s nicer to have a 5.5 game lead.
drewishdrewid - September 2, 2008
I am feeling that they are
both tired and also pressing a bit as a team right now.
Much different team than the 7-game winning streak one.

Ground ball up the left field side scores a run 60% of the time with bases loaded and one out.
cwyers - September 2, 2008
Where can I find lineup differences?
As in, a projection of runs scored for a team depending on various lineups? I had it bookmarked at one point, but it seem to have escaped both my mind and my bookmarks.

kcjones - September 2, 2008
because Derrek Lee is a hitter....
/sarcasm
santoswoodenlegs - September 2, 2008
Because one run wins the game right there...
…while one run doesn’t necessarily win the game in the eighth.
cwyers - September 2, 2008
But...who has a better chance of "knocking in" a run...in either situation?
kcjones - September 2, 2008
Scoring the runner from third or from first... hmm.
You act like Lee is hitting like Casey McGehee here, when he’s a well above-average hitter on the year, just not a spectacular hitter like he was before.

He’s not done yet, but he’s getting there. I know that Hendry is probably scouting replacements at this point, but I just can’t stand having such a mediocre offensive 1B for the next couple years.
D98 - September 2, 2008
lee can still hit
I think he’s just unlucky with where he’s hitting the ball. He’s hitting them hard…the problem is it’s at people. Give him some time….Lee will turn it around
aznsensation - September 2, 2008
It's been 2 powerless years.
It’s pretty clear that he’s in an end-of-career decline. I love the guy, but he’s fading in all aspects at this point.
He’s dramatically worse than Fred McGriff was in 2002. And that seriously hurts me to say. But it’s undeniably true.
D98 - September 2, 2008
He had a lot of power in the beginning of the season.
daver - September 2, 2008
He's just a Dusty kinda guy...can't hit when the bases are clogged in front of him
kcjones - September 2, 2008
I can't even communicate with you.
Try replacing Derrek Lee at first? Look at his stats. (new window)
Please. Stop it.
Dan

elgato - September 2, 2008
Yeah, I agree.
A win would’ve been nice – and could still occur, I might add. But if they don’t win, nothing changes in the standings. And, hey, at least the Cubs broked their “nothin’ but singles” streak tonight.

This is on HOWRY!!!
mmancubfan - September 2, 2008
C'mon, DLee hit that GIDP ball hard...
…the third baseman made a nice play. Derrek can’t control where the ball goes. Better pitching would’ve made this an easy win.

daver - September 2, 2008
Then We Agree To Disagree
Tony Gwynn and Rod Carew could always place their hits.
CaliCub - September 2, 2008
He is the ONE Cub you'd most want to face.
D98 - September 2, 2008
He's the worst hitter on the Cubs?
By what measure?

Yeah. Seven runs. Should be sent down to AAA. Uh-huh.

All of us are pretty upset tonight.

Howry, Lou, DLee get the blame on this one
DC Cubbie - September 2, 2008
We all have to realize

The E-Man - September 2, 2008
Our most consistent

The E-Man - September 2, 2008
Can we all agree that Bob Howry isn't a major league pitcher anymore?
santoswoodenlegs - September 2, 2008

most of them are.
santoswoodenlegs - September 2, 2008
bad managing by Lou tonight
why not send up a guy to bunt in the 10th with 2 on and none out?
why allow Howry to implode again in the 6th?
why keep letting Lee bat with runners on when he can’t buy a hit???
CubFaninNY - September 2, 2008

Not trying to wake up Blue Mike...

Here's Why So Many Are Upset
CaliCub - September 2, 2008
There's an old saying that goes...
An optimist looks at the glass and sees it half-full. A pessimist looks at the glass and sees it half-empty. A Cubs fan looks at the glass and waits for it to tip over and shatter.
Davidson College Cubs Fan - September 2, 2008
I don't understand that mentality...
…and I work with a lot of mentalities in special education.
dtpollitt - September 2, 2008
Negative Reinforcement, You Could Call It
One repeatedly expects and hopes for an outcome that would seem to reasonably happen, but in each instance it doesn’t happen.
CaliCub - September 2, 2008

dtpollitt - September 2, 2008
They should be
kcjones - September 2, 2008
Why?
Just like HBCG said, they are double counted. If Riot strikes out with the bases juiced, and then that happens twice more, that’s 9 men left on base for that inning. Or 3. Which one is true?
dtpollitt - September 2, 2008
Individual stats
double count and don’t take into account the making of a “productive” out…
halfblindcubbiegirl - September 2, 2008
No such thing as a productive out

I think there is.
dtpollitt - September 2, 2008

halfblindcubbiegirl - September 2, 2008

You get 27 outs / game…..if you’re gonna count productive outs…..you gotta count runners LOB eacch time they are left on base.
kcjones - September 2, 2008
Then Lee hits a sac fly, and that’s not a productive out?

razzpunk - September 2, 2008
That's fine, your assessment is welcomed.
That’s all. No biggie.
dtpollitt - September 2, 2008
We'll just have to wait to see what the Dr. finds,
but based on Z’s shoulder pain earlier this year, this doesn’t sound good at all. In fact, it sounds pretty bad.
cowsarecool220 - September 2, 2008
Bad news, something is wrong with Z's arm,
they are sending him to the Dr. tomorrow.
cowsarecool220 - September 2, 2008
Zambrano's arm......we are in HUGE trouble......this is bad.....
I cannot believe it……God just stomped on our testicles big time……
razzpunk - September 2, 2008
Post-game says:
Zambrano told Rothschild that he didn’t feel good and had to come out of the game. He will be checked out tomorrow. I think this deserves a “FUCK!”.
dtpollitt - September 2, 2008
I'll second that.
God. i hope its just cramps again… it was humid…. ::wishful thinking::
halfblindcubbiegirl - September 2, 2008
I don't remember Zambrano ever saying this before
Usually they pull him out. This sounds series. And Lou sounded pissed.
dtpollitt - September 2, 2008
This sounds very bad.
Considering the pain he had earlier this year.
cowsarecool220 - September 2, 2008
Lets try not to overreact yet...
:-(
halfblindcubbiegirl - September 2, 2008
You're right, we just have to wait and see what the Dr. says.
It’ s just that he had the shoulder pain earlier this year and that makes this new arm issue sound very concerning.
cowsarecool220 - September 2, 2008
I know
I said it for my own benefit… :-( but not good.
halfblindcubbiegirl - September 2, 2008
I agree...this is not sounding good at all....Z wouldn't pull himself unless he is hurt bad.....
razzpunk - September 2, 2008
I hope you're right
but you don’t send a pitcher to the doctor if it’s just cramps.
Best case, he’s back for October
PhillyCub - September 2, 2008
Streatch out Marshall and get him into a routine starting NOW
I’ll take him every 5th day the rest of the month
kcjones - September 2, 2008
he was awesome when he came off the DL in July
I just hope its not something left over from that….
halfblindcubbiegirl - September 2, 2008
Thank God Rich Hill is available
rynomite23 - September 2, 2008
Please tell me you're joking...
Davidson College Cubs Fan - September 2, 2008
Or maybe Howry
could be stretched out into a starting role. Of course I’m joking. Humor is the only way to make it through crappy news like that.
rynomite23 - September 2, 2008
Just making sure...
Davidson College Cubs Fan - September 2, 2008
Trachsel is ready
Itchy - September 2, 2008
Pretty sure it would be Marshall or Lieber
And I kinda like the thought of a veteran Lieber helping us out on our march to the post-season
dtpollitt - September 2, 2008
I like Lieber
As long as we don’t pitch him against the Reds again.
halfblindcubbiegirl - September 2, 2008
I'm outta here, HBCG.
Tied for the longest losing streak of the season. I think we hushed the trolls tonight, but it’s gonna be a bashing tomorrow.
dtpollitt - September 2, 2008
Night.
Thanks for being my troll bashing buddy. :-)
halfblindcubbiegirl - September 2, 2008
I really don't mind bitching about bad players, bad plays, and overall crappiness.
It’s the guys n gals that come out of the woodwork just to discuss these things that bother me. And most of them don’t have their facts straight. Argue facts and that’s perfectly acceptable. Ignorant claims are not.
dtpollitt - September 3, 2008
Its the climbing out of the woodwork that kills me
names you NEVER see are suddenly everywhere and saying stupid things.
halfblindcubbiegirl - September 3, 2008
Oh, there's one I see
He/she comes in the game thread when things are going bad — hours after the game is over, and makes snarky comments.
Shanghai Badger - September 3, 2008
I digress w/ both of you.....
I’d much rather see Marshall out there IF NECESSARY …than Lieber
kcjones - September 2, 2008
Digress?
Posting drunk again, I see… :sigh:
halfblindcubbiegirl - September 2, 2008
Digress means to sidestep or move away from.
And in Marshall’s last five starts, he’s 1-4 with 17 earned runs in 28 innings of work.
dtpollitt - September 2, 2008
Liber's stats:
Dan
dtpollitt - September 3, 2008
Don't know where you get you stats from....
I’lll take the kid
kcjones - September 3, 2008
Lieber....Marshall.......I weep into my pillow tonight if we must have them....
in place of the Big Z……..why can’t we just coast into the post season? I no likey the roller coaster……
razzpunk - September 2, 2008
Amidst all the yuck piled up tonight....at least we scored 7 runs.....
at least thr Brewers lost……ummmm……at least we are getting this outta our system now instead of in October…….
razzpunk - September 3, 2008
WGN news
Undisclosed arm injury, will see doctor tomorrow.
Lou “Did anyone think this was going to be easy”
Well, no Lou I didn’t… but I hoped we’d have 1 easy win.
halfblindcubbiegirl - September 3, 2008
One thing to keep in mind
Zambrano absoulely stunk in August and the Cubs won 20 games.
Yes, they’re better with him — but it isn’t over if he is hurt.
Shanghai Badger - September 3, 2008
Not over
Thanks for being the voice I needed.
Hopefully we’ll get good news tomorrow.
halfblindcubbiegirl - September 3, 2008
Wow, 1200 posts for the last thread.
Guess we coulda made an overflow thread. Whoops.
dtpollitt - September 3, 2008
I was surprised when I saw that as I logged in. Oh, well.
Good night, Beavis!
Shanghai Badger - September 3, 2008
night badger!
heres to hoping we get good news tomorrow…
halfblindcubbiegirl - September 3, 2008
This was one of those games you thought they would lose
I blame a lot of this on DLee. He needs to be moved down in the order. I love him and I am not saying he should be traded etc. He does not come through in clutch situations. Bases loaded with one out and your number three grounds into a double play? I could forgive him if it were a rare occurance but it happens all the time. Lou needs to take charge and move him down for the sake of the team. He is hurting us in the 3 spot. As a fan for 20 plus years I am getting that sick “cubby feeling”.
