…this doesn’t bother me, becuase it signifies that the YANKEES ARE MISSING THE POSTSEASON!!!!! Way to close out the house that ruth built, George! May the house that George built be a home of mediocrity for the next few decades!
Everyone is being pretty rude demanding food from you. I’ll one-up them. Come over to my house. I’ll cook to your hearts delight! All I ask is for you to finish cleaning.
Make it at least once a week since you recomended it on one of the threads. I know a grocery store that makes it’s own spicy cajun sausage. Add some chicken, wash it down with a nice cold beer and I’m a happy man.
You can only designate players to the playoff roster...
…who are either on the 25-man roster or the DL as of Aug. 31st.
However – once you’ve designated a player on the DL to the roster, if he’s still on the DL, you can replace him with any player on the 40-man as of Aug. 31st. Cubs have 4 players on the 60 day DL, I think – I know Rich Hill and Chad Fox are on there.
Anyone who is eligilble (i.e., anyone who was on the roster or DL on Aug. 31, plus 4 “free” moves from the 40 man roster for the four DL guys) can be on the playoff roster. Also, the roster can be changed every round — Pie could be on the roster for the first round, then be replaced by Hoff for the second round.
OK, I'm just a little bit baffled at how to rate DeRo's season.
His OPS is only .843, but he has scored 100 runs (15th in MLB), despite not batting at the top of the order. He has only 83 RBIs despite batting mostly 5-7.
I tend to think of him as best when batting #1 or #2 (table-setter), but obviously Lou doesn’t. It’s a really good (career) season for him, but is it a really good season in MLB?
Does the fact that he has scored more runs than he has driven in
despite hitting in an RBI slot signify that he is better as a table-setter, or is it just the opportunities (or lack thereof) that he had batting behind a slumping Dome?
But my brother lives in So. Cal and he’s been to games in LA. He said that nobody really paid attention to the game where he was sitting and they all left in the 7th. Is there a signal that the park gives to get people to leave early?
It’s got to be the pressure he was feeling. Yesterday seeing him smiling and spraying champagne, something was different. I wouldn’t be surprised if he pulls off an awesome week.
In his kids play room, which is the least used. So I can typically have the TV to whatever I want. But the channel got changed from WGN to nicktoons all of a sudden. :)
I guess that means I should just watch football :)

Interesting things to watch in the next week
1) The play of Fontenot and Fukudome. They’re essentially competing for a starting job.
2) Shark (can’t spell his name with my throbbing head). My guess is he will pitch a lot, so Lou can make sure he deserves a playoff roster spot.
3) Pie vs. Hoffpauir for the final roster spot. My money’s on Pie.
4) Z’s final start.

sounds about right
it’ll be interesting, methinks

Emelie - September 21, 2008
If his control returns, he'll be there.
Otherwise, I’m sure they look hard at Hart, Guzman or Wells if one of them catches lightning in a bottle.
Bill Potter - September 21, 2008
how does that work
in terms of the Sept. 1 deadline? Cwyers, anybody?
Would Shark have to go on the DL for one of those guys to get a spot?

cwyers abandoned us for the Bears

carmen_fanzone - September 21, 2008
The Cubs will have a few roster spots open because of guys who were on the DL
that’s how they could sneak Pie or anyone else in there if need be
Bill Potter - September 21, 2008
You can only designate players to the playoff roster...

carmen_fanzone - September 21, 2008

carmen_fanzone - September 21, 2008
Colin,
There used to be a stat called “runs created”. I think it was: R + RBI – HR = RC.
If RBIs are a product of opportunity, is this a valid stat? What would it mean?
DeRoMyHero - September 21, 2008
That's runs produced.
It works. I mean, there are better stats out there. But you can work with runs produced.
cwyers - September 21, 2008
Would a high RP be a good power hitter, or just a good all-around player?
Would there be any correlation with OPS, since both might signify OBP and power?
DeRoMyHero - September 21, 2008
RP and OPS should correlate reasonably well.
Essentially you end up with a poor man’s linear weights.
cwyers - September 21, 2008
OK, I'm just a little bit baffled at how to rate DeRo's season.
His OPS is only .843, but he has scored 100 runs (15th in MLB), despite not batting at the top of the order. He has only 83 RBIs despite batting mostly 5-7.
I tend to think of him as best when batting #1 or #2 (table-setter), but obviously Lou doesn’t. It’s a really good (career) season for him, but is it a really good season in MLB?
DeRoMyHero - September 21, 2008
He's having a very good offensive season...
…but not one on the level of, say, A-Ram.
cwyers - September 21, 2008
Colin, just out curiousity
how does his season stack up to the rest of the league’s 6 or 7 hitters?
I would think you could make the argument he’s the best 6 or 7-hole hitter in the NL.
Bill Potter - September 21, 2008
Batting sixth.
Batting seventh.
cwyers - September 21, 2008
thanks, Colin
Bill Potter - September 21, 2008
Does the fact that he has scored more runs than he has driven in
despite hitting in an RBI slot signify that he is better as a table-setter, or is it just the opportunities (or lack thereof) that he had batting behind a slumping Dome?
DeRoMyHero - September 21, 2008
It could mean a lot of things.
I really don’t care whether a guy scores runs or drives them in, just so long as he contributes.
Besides, I don’t think he really has played much in an RBI spot. He’s “leading off for the bottom of the order.”
cwyers - September 21, 2008

Kinda glad we kept DeRosa
daeviant - September 21, 2008

I'm sure that no one is rooting harder for him than DeRo...
DeRoMyHero - September 21, 2008
How did this end up here?
SBN and I are NOT on speaking terms…
DeRoMyHero - September 21, 2008
it's messing with me too
there must be a lot of people posting today… that’s what Al said last time we were infected with SBN-itis
Emelie - September 21, 2008
It would have looked like a better move if Roberts
could have managed to have a higher OPS than DeRo…
DeRoMyHero - September 21, 2008

Bill Potter - September 21, 2008
Favorite Wrigley Moment of the Year?
Toss up: DeRo’s homer vs Rockies or Soto’s homer vs. Brewers.
carmen_fanzone - September 21, 2008
I like Lee and Ramirez going back-to-back to tie up the first Sox game, too
Bill Potter - September 21, 2008
That 9 run rally vs. the Rockies made me believe.
slcathena - September 21, 2008
+1
Emelie - September 21, 2008
Gotta go with
the comeback against the Rockies. Love all the choices, though.
spoiledcubbage - September 21, 2008

daeviant - September 21, 2008

slcathena - September 21, 2008
Pie bowls over Jason Varitek
To score the winning run in game 7 of the World Series.
daeviant - September 21, 2008
ha ha ha.
That would mean Game 7 was less than 20 minutes from me.
I’m down.
slcathena - September 21, 2008
Or maybe
Pie bowls over AJ Perizynski to win game 7.
daeviant - September 21, 2008
That would mean the game was really far away.
But I have to admit, I’d love it.
slcathena - September 21, 2008
