what login you use. MLB knows where you are. I actually share a login with someone in LA, and I get blacked out of games in Cincy and Pittsburgh and Cleveland (i’m in Columbus, OH)
Ward fulfills the role of lefty off the bench much better. Fonty can play second base. Pie can play all three outfield spots, and he’s way faster. I don’t see room for Hoff.
Hoff isn’t any better than Ward, and Ward has WAY more experience. I’d MUCH rather have Ward at bat. There’s no hole in his swing, and he can take a walk.
I hadnt really thought about PH taking a walk, I tend to only think about getting a hit or sacrifice being their job. But doh not getting an out more important.
I’m saying Ward, compared to other years, has not had Ward-like numbers. He’s down about 100 points on his OBP this year compared to last year. I’ve wanted him to be the Daryl of old all year, but save for two big hits, he hasn’t.
Ward is a much better OF than Hoff. (I know that isn’t exactly a compiment.) If DeRo and CedeƱo are hurting, and Dome’s bat remains in Japan, that may become a factor. Also, if you carry both, you won’t have Pie to PR for DeRo, Soto, or Edmonds.
He has hit many balls hard this year. Most of them found a glove. When you have as few at bats as Ward has had this year, a couple of those hard hit balls fall in and he’s one of the leading pinch hitters in the league.
have done pretty well for the Cubs this year so far. Another guy that’s fresh, that the opposing pitchers don’t know a whole lot about can go a long way, too
I really don’t want the Cubs to have to play a game after the season. Even if they really aren’t playing a full season since it looks like the ’Stros are going to be out of it.
First!
Go Harden!

cubsonWGN4ever - September 25, 2008
There was also a note about how the doctors had him hold a ball with the other hand

they use your visa/mastercard info (address) to locate you.

I'm pretty sure they don't...
Like I said, I live in Columbus, OH, but the account belongs to my buddy in LA.

I’m watching, too – hopefully we can both watch at the same time
Clutch16 - September 25, 2008
THANKS ALL!
I’ll try it now.
CubFaninNY - September 25, 2008
NOTHING DOING.
CubFaninNY - September 25, 2008
Sorry about that...
Clutch16 - September 25, 2008
Hoffpauir with a good night so far
Chanman25 - September 25, 2008
Looks like Hoff
is making a bid for the post-season roster.
The Original Dave - September 25, 2008
I just don't see the place for him.
Ward fulfills the role of lefty off the bench much better. Fonty can play second base. Pie can play all three outfield spots, and he’s way faster. I don’t see room for Hoff.
drewishdrewid - September 25, 2008
Ward
shouldn’t be anywhere near a playoff game with the way he’s hit this year.
The Original Dave - September 25, 2008
thats on 'original'
Hammer - September 25, 2008
I disagree totally.
Hoff isn’t any better than Ward, and Ward has WAY more experience. I’d MUCH rather have Ward at bat. There’s no hole in his swing, and he can take a walk.
drewishdrewid - September 25, 2008
+1
and im a hoff fan
Hammer - September 25, 2008
I'm sure Lou
will handle it the right way. It’s a tough decision, actually, choosing between two guys who can’t hit major league pitching right now.
Experience certainly plays a role. Like I said, I’ll leave it up to Lou. Hoff gets my vote at the moment, though.
The Original Dave - September 25, 2008
It's not a tough decision at all.
Ward has PROVEN he can hit ML pitching. Hoff has not. Once again, Ward has a few fall in, and we’re not even discussing this.
Jimmyeatworld - September 25, 2008
You don't need a PH in the playoffs taking a walk...
…you need a hit. And Ward has not hit this season.
Not saying Micah should replace him, but, really Ward’s been so bad this year, save 2 big hits, it’s scary.
carmen_fanzone - September 25, 2008
Um...as long as a batter doesn't make an out...what the hell is wrong with that?
santoswoodenlegs - September 25, 2008
Depends on the situation....
….do you really want Ward up there to take a walk in a clutch situation?
carmen_fanzone - September 25, 2008
Without a doubt.
Jimmyeatworld - September 25, 2008
If he doesn't get a good pitch...yes. It would be STUPID to not take a walk.
santoswoodenlegs - September 25, 2008
absolutely.
and Hoff will K at a much higher rate.
drewishdrewid - September 25, 2008
Ward has hit
just as much as Hoffpauer. And walks are highly underrated. We need players to GET ON BASE. You can’t score lots of runs without lots of baserunners.
drewishdrewid - September 25, 2008
My only problem with Ward
is once he gets on base he has to be replaced with someone who can actually run. Then you use up two bench players.
sue369 - September 25, 2008
sure
but Lou is the master of the double switch. I’ll take my chances with Ward the Clutch hitter.
drewishdrewid - September 25, 2008
I guess we disagree.
sue369 - September 25, 2008
That's what Jason is for, if he isn't needed in long relief.
DeRoMyHero - September 25, 2008
But he's often in put in a situation that calls for a hit to drive in runs...
…not a walk. And then we have a slow baserunner on when he does walk.
carmen_fanzone - September 25, 2008
Damned basepath clogger
Clutch16 - September 25, 2008
OH NOES! Another man on base! That just KILLS rallies....it's worse than a double play!
santoswoodenlegs - September 25, 2008
Maybe your definition of a Pinch HITTER is different than mine...
Bottom line, he’s up there to hit, not to walk in 90% of the situations he’s put into.
carmen_fanzone - September 25, 2008
Pinch Walker
Texas Ranger?
Clutch16 - September 25, 2008
Every single hitters primary job is to not make an out. Everything else is secondary.
It’s kinda the point of the whole damn game….not making outs. You only get 27 of them.
santoswoodenlegs - September 25, 2008
that seems so ...........
logical
Madison Cub Fan - September 25, 2008
Try getting carmen to undersand the value of having a PH take a walk if he doesn't get a pitch to hit.
santoswoodenlegs - September 25, 2008
U don't have to be shitty, SWL
carmen_fanzone - September 25, 2008
OK...
santoswoodenlegs - September 25, 2008
No, it's true
I hadnt really thought about PH taking a walk, I tend to only think about getting a hit or sacrifice being their job. But doh not getting an out more important.
Madison Cub Fan - September 25, 2008
he doesn't do that either.
his job is to have a good at bat, try to put the ball in play (or out of the park) — usually in a highly clutch situation.
I trust Ward to do that over Hoff. It’s not logical. The sample size is too low to be effective. It’s gut feeling. YMMV.
drewishdrewid - September 25, 2008
Again, I"m not saying Micah over Ward....
I’m saying Ward, compared to other years, has not had Ward-like numbers. He’s down about 100 points on his OBP this year compared to last year. I’ve wanted him to be the Daryl of old all year, but save for two big hits, he hasn’t.
carmen_fanzone - September 25, 2008
I don't think anyone's disagreeing with that
we just don’t think Hoff is any better, and experience counts for something.
drewishdrewid - September 25, 2008
Well, I never said Hoff was better, so I guess I'm barking up the wrong tree
carmen_fanzone - September 25, 2008
Remember, the PH will most often bat 9th.
If he walks, he creates more baserunners for Sori — hardly a bad thing.
DeRoMyHero - September 25, 2008
One other factor...
DeRoMyHero - September 25, 2008
Ward is a proven, veteran hitter.
He has hit many balls hard this year. Most of them found a glove. When you have as few at bats as Ward has had this year, a couple of those hard hit balls fall in and he’s one of the leading pinch hitters in the league.
Jimmyeatworld - September 25, 2008
He's 8-51 as a PH for chrissakes...
carmen_fanzone - September 25, 2008
I'd rather have a proven hitter than a career minor leaguer who hasn't proven anything.
Jimmyeatworld - September 25, 2008
I'd rather have Fontenot up there...
carmen_fanzone - September 25, 2008
sure
but I think Fonty is on the roster anyway. This is Ward Vs. Hoff, not Ward vs. Misc Bench Player
drewishdrewid - September 25, 2008
All I've said is Ward's been bad this year...
…..never said Micah should be his replacement.
carmen_fanzone - September 25, 2008
I'm glad you're not making out the post season roster.
Jimmyeatworld - September 25, 2008
The young pups
have done pretty well for the Cubs this year so far. Another guy that’s fresh, that the opposing pitchers don’t know a whole lot about can go a long way, too
The Original Dave - September 25, 2008
Exactamundo.
Jimmyeatworld - September 25, 2008
What Channels the game on?
longtimecubfan - September 25, 2008

sue369 - September 25, 2008
Hey gang!
Listening through the radio static, did I hear that Hoffpauir has 2 rbi, including a homer tonight? Goodness.
Bill Potter - September 25, 2008
yep
when there’s no pressure, Hoff is great.
drewishdrewid - September 25, 2008
Heh..so is Carlos.
santoswoodenlegs - September 25, 2008
Pedro pitch count anyone?
santoswoodenlegs - September 25, 2008
58
Clutch16 - September 25, 2008
He won't make it to the 5th inning...if we get that far.
santoswoodenlegs - September 25, 2008
I demand that Dome start hitting the ball with authority!
santoswoodenlegs - September 25, 2008
He would rather screw himself into the ground
nji232 - September 25, 2008
Could you please lend him one of your legs?
His current stick of wood seems to have a hole in it.
DeRoMyHero - September 25, 2008
Good evening everyone!
Looks like tonight is going well for the Cubs so far.
cowsarecool220 - September 25, 2008
So far yes it is.
sue369 - September 25, 2008

Hammer - September 25, 2008

tootle - September 25, 2008
I swear the Mets Color guy is gonna shift the Cubs outfielders himself in a minute
nji232 - September 25, 2008
I stopped watching them
and switched to the Len and Bob.
The Original Dave - September 25, 2008
Im sticking with them because I can't wait to hear more about how stupid the Cubs are
when it comes to positioning the outfield
nji232 - September 25, 2008
Weather update?
How does it look to us poor unfortunate souls who don’t get the game? Can we get 5 in?
dbaltman - September 25, 2008
no rain yet
why not?
tim815 - September 25, 2008
Thanks.
dbaltman - September 25, 2008
The heavens can pour their wrath onto Shea Stadium for its mere existence
In three more innings.
Clutch16 - September 25, 2008
Yeah
I really don’t want the Cubs to have to play a game after the season. Even if they really aren’t playing a full season since it looks like the ’Stros are going to be out of it.
The Original Dave - September 25, 2008
what are the odds the umpires would make them play all 9
just so the Mets can’t complain about a rain-shortened loss.
Bill Potter - September 25, 2008
Cubs up 3-1 Yippee!
just got here
Emelie - September 25, 2008
Hey Em!
sue369 - September 25, 2008

Madison Cub Fan - September 25, 2008

Emelie - September 25, 2008
Hi, Maddy, Sue, and Emelie!
Hi Joey! Hi Martine! Hi Alonzo! Hi Burt!
drewishdrewid - September 25, 2008
Hi Maddy!!
sue369 - September 25, 2008
1-2-3
nice swift inning.
drewishdrewid - September 25, 2008
with len and bob complaining
about harden’s lack of velocity,
he’s shutting down a team that needs this game
tim815 - September 25, 2008
is he really slow?
they’re thinking about next week, I guess.
drewishdrewid - September 25, 2008
when he beat St. Louis
weren’t his comments along the lines of “I realized I don’t need to throw 100 percent on every pitch”
Bill Potter - September 25, 2008
yes.
drewishdrewid - September 25, 2008
so I'm not going to worry.
I’ll take this new, wiser Rich Harden
Bill Potter - September 25, 2008
could they also enjoy his lack of runs given up?
santoswoodenlegs - September 25, 2008
I used to be in the freak out about his veloctiy crowd
Not anymore. The guy still shuts people down
nji232 - September 25, 2008
Didn't Rich say
not too long ago that velocity isn’t everything? I agree with him. Case in point: Greg The Professor Maddux
The Original Dave - September 25, 2008
cubs 3 team in last year at stadium 1
end of 3
tim815 - September 25, 2008
3 down
Cubs up 3-1
nji232 - September 25, 2008
Harden
swift legs!
Beating out another infield throw.
drewishdrewid - September 25, 2008
Harden gets on base again
Running hard to first
nji232 - September 25, 2008
Nice hustle, but I'd rather not have Harden running the bases...
DeRoMyHero - September 25, 2008
I agree
The only other time it happened, he got rocked by the Astros
nji232 - September 25, 2008
Maybe Pie will do another
Soriano impersonation and Harden can walk around the bases.
The Original Dave - September 25, 2008
Scratch that :)
The Original Dave - September 25, 2008
Harden's "velocity" down the first base line seems OK.
santoswoodenlegs - September 25, 2008
He has to be one of the fastest pitchers in baseball
nji232 - September 25, 2008
as is
the wind from Pie’s swings. Geez.
drewishdrewid - September 25, 2008
