Pinella has a huge challenge to not repeat Baker's 2003 mistakes
We all remember that in 2003 the two teams that advanced (Boston and FLA) used their starters in relief at key points of the championship series while Baker and the Yankees stuck with their tired bullpens and it cost them. The 2003 Cubs bullpen is in many ways very similar to where ours is now – they were pretty effective most of year but were cashed by the end. Pinella MUST not confine himself to just using conventional relievers and tap Marquis and Marshall liberally.
I just can’t imagine this team getting to the WS if Gaudin, Cotts and Howry are used in key situations
and I’m cool with the Cubs mentally not being tuned in, but note to D Lee and Aram: Don’t start the bad habits with trying to yank everything. That is so frustrating. One run off of Suppan is awful, no matter what the scenario is.
Chad Gaudin is out, Bob Howry is in, Micah Hoffpower is in. Sweet Lou ain’t given Hoffpower these starts just for the hell of it. Nope, he’s getting him some at bats to be as ready as possible to help in the postseason. Felix Pie is out baby !!!
First!
znohitter - September 26, 2008
I'm pretty sure
Chad Gaudin isn’t going to make the post-season roster.
He needs some work after being out for 4 weeks.
The Original Dave - September 26, 2008
Sure looks that way.
znohitter - September 26, 2008
and Howry
Where’s my beer?
Barkman - September 26, 2008
Daver Sez Howry Made It

Quoth Lou:
“I need Bob [Howry} to pitch well,” Piniella said. “I had a nice little meeting and told him we need him to get nice and sharp and pitch well for us.”
Gee, Lou, could you have said that to Bob about THREE AND A HALF MONTHS AGO?!
daver - September 26, 2008
Just Like Baker-Neifi and Baylor-Delino
“I have to get him going…he’s a guy you can go to the well with.”
CaliCub - September 26, 2008
GOD! That is SO
DUSTY!!!!!!!
DAVE VERES/GUTHRIE REDUX!
UGH!!
The E-Man - September 26, 2008

CaliCub - September 26, 2008
they don't have to go 9.
they just have to go 7. Marmol can go 8, Woody 9. There are enough off days.
drewishdrewid - September 26, 2008
znohitter - September 26, 2008
I REALY hope that Howry comes up big in the playoffs,
But I really have my doubts.
Blue W - September 26, 2008
Wow, that's really saying something.
There are SO many things I can think of that could be #1.
Blue W - September 26, 2008
Whoops
I thought it said Gaudin WAS gonna be on it. Sorry
Barkman - September 26, 2008
Let’s go Lee. Just like BP.

Baker: "But Clement Can't Pitch Out of the Bullpen"
The second dumbest thing he ever saidl
CaliCub - September 26, 2008
IS there any possibility
of a fan petition to remove Howry from the Roster?
The E-Man - September 26, 2008
Robin Yount
has a resemblance to Brenly
Barkman - September 26, 2008
I hope C.C.'s arm...
literally falls off in his next start.
Kansas25 - September 26, 2008
Howry and Gaudin
should go dumpster diving after the game. I’m done w/ them.
Jayo525 - September 26, 2008
Dempster diving?
Kansas25 - September 26, 2008
No, but he does a few laps in the pool.
daver - September 26, 2008
Someone should introduce the concept of 'shaving'
to the Brewers sometime during the offseason.

daver - September 26, 2008
I also hate it that the Brewers have some strong arms in their bullpen throwing over 95.
And Fonzi, you’re embarassing…
zevkalman - September 26, 2008
That was Pie.
daver - September 26, 2008

Very inconsistent despite tonight. Let’s see them sustain it over 3-4 games.

and I don’t want to watch that
Barkman - September 26, 2008

JFCubFan - September 26, 2008
