Can’t rewind it right now – wasn’t looking at where the catcher was set up at the time. But he wasn’t simply throwing BP out there, he was actually pitcing.
Don’t the Cubs have a genuine 4A SS they could have called up for September emergencies like Cedeno sliding head-first and jamming his shoulder and DeRo pulling a muscle?
and into spring training he will fine tune his approach. To start with he fooled ptchers, but they figured him out and have been fooling him. I don’t think he is a lost cause at all.
For those in desperate need to watch the game with a video stream on your computer
I have it running, but it requires a lot of buffering, and you need the tvant streaming client to see it. I might go back to the MLB audio feed from Pat and Ron.
Just click on the row with the Brewers vs. Cubs. It is a few minutes behind the actual game because of buffering issues, and it’s not easy to find the tvant client on the internet.
Is there a web site that lists the league (or ML) average OPS (or other good stat) at each position? You said that you think Weeks is OK offensively at 2B? I guess that .745 seems more like a SS…
Baseball Reference should have it on the splits page.
Typically, though, a second baseman is a league-average hitter, so it’s not tough to figure out. He’s not a horrible hitter for a second baseman, but realistically he shouldn’t be playing second.
IMHO We don’t necesarily need an Ozzie Smith or an Omar Vizquel in his prime. Just a guy who can consitently make all the routine plays in ways that give confidence to the pitcher and other players on the field. Larry Bowa was a good example of someone like that. Unfortunately, neither Cedeno nor Theriot quite fit the mold.
Let's go JV Cubs.

Emelie - September 27, 2008
the Brewers are countering with Rickie Weeks
so I guess it balances out.
Bill Potter - September 27, 2008
Rickie Weeks doesn't hit poorly for a second baseman.
This would matter more if he was able to adequately field his position.

I know. I misplaced the sarcasm button somewhere along the way.
Bill Potter - September 27, 2008
A .745 OPS is OK for a 2B???
Not trying to be a smart-ass, just asking….
DeRo’s .791 last year wasn’t good enough for Lou; he wanted TNO. And, I think I can safely say, DeRo has a much better glove than Weeks.
