I’m drinkin gin & tonics, grillin burgers on the deck, and about to listen to some Cubbie baseball! Bout 70 here in Kansas, which is about as damn good as it gets in early September!
I saw it as a first date with a youth pastor that was new in town. My mom set us up, gulp. I was worried about what to say or not say until the movie started. There were a couple of older ladies sitting behind us doing commentary on the opening scenes. They were scanning the wreckage and showing things like money, china, eye glasses, etc. They kept saying oh look, glasses! oh look, silverware! etc etc. Finally the pastor said oh look a sunken ship! It went all right and was sure interesting, but we didn’t go on another date.
football thing keeps coming up here too. However it is now Sept and I can no longer be annoyed about football talk. There is a good game going on tonight in my high school’s conference. If I didn’t need to watch my Cubs and I didn’t haveto work tonight, UI would go see it. Washington vs Metamora. A clash of the titans here in central IL.
I just have to flip through the first 5 or 6 sports alt channels and find the game when it’s not on WGN or Comcast. Cand o the same for other “area” teams. I cna find Cards, Sox, and Brewers games easily too.
In the interests of lowering the magic number, I’m logging off the game thread and going to bed. Sorry sue, emelie, hbcg… you can’t follow me. Well, maybe if you give me the puppy dog eyes.
I better wake up to the uniform saying “16” in the morning!
Basically, if you look at Theriot over the past two seasons...
…he has the one spectacular month of April to start this year, followed by mostly crap. But because it happened in April, nobody’s ready to believe it quite yet.
Hitting went first, fielding followed and now pitching. The team is cratering and this could be a very long losing streak and potentially one of the more monumental collapses in baseball history. This team is unrecognizable at this point.
Lilly has been consistently good and this happens. But, as a playoff pitcher lilly is a concern because of how many HR he gives up. The offense is a train wreck at this point and even if we hold on AZ will slaughter us again in short order.
The one that says Despair, it’s always darkest right before it goes pitch black or the one that says Challenges, I expected times like this – but I never thought they’d be so bad, so long, and so frequent.
it is early though. Maybe The bullpen will be lights out and Jedmonds can be a homerun hitting fool and win this game for us. Never thought I would type such things, but here it is.
one week ago they looked like world beaters….they’ve led the Majors in offense for 130 games. Everybody needs to take a deep breath…they will be OK. Be glad Milwaukee is stinking up the place as well.
Now we could do it with conventional weapons that could take years and cost millions of lives. No, I think we have to go all out. I think that this situation absolutely requires a really futile and stupid gesture be done on somebody’s part…

Oil, of course
the answer to the nation’s problems

We must begin to think about alternatives to oil...

We think creatively
we will use lard obtained from lipsuction… an endless supply that begs to be repurposed!

Yes...and perhaps with more stem cell research...
we can synthesize it in a lab environment! The massive liposuction demand could drive the cost of health care up.

Can anyone confirm?
Is this the first time this year that Dome has batted 8th against a RHP?
I’d rather have him bat 8th so he doesn’t mess up the lineup while playing great defense.
DeRoMyHero - September 5, 2008
I'd rather have him play SS.
santoswoodenlegs - September 5, 2008
Theriot can't...um....you know....throw very hard.
santoswoodenlegs - September 5, 2008
DFA THERIOT!
BrewCrew'sPrinceofDarkness - September 5, 2008
Alright gang...
In the interests of lowering the magic number, I’m logging off the game thread and going to bed. Sorry sue, emelie, hbcg… you can’t follow me. Well, maybe if you give me the puppy dog eyes.
I better wake up to the uniform saying “16” in the morning!
sanantonecub - September 5, 2008
Stay safe
chilango2 - September 5, 2008
at 5 pm??????
Emelie - September 5, 2008
oops thought you were SWL
Emelie - September 5, 2008
where do you get 5pm?
It’s 1am my time!
sanantonecub - September 5, 2008
See ya tomorrow.
sue369 - September 5, 2008
Wow. Theriot is suddenly showcasing all his flaws.
I feel sorry for him.
zevkalman - September 5, 2008
DFA THERIOT!
BrewCrew'sPrinceofDarkness - September 5, 2008
Suddenly? Have you been watching this team all year?
santoswoodenlegs - September 5, 2008
Basically, if you look at Theriot over the past two seasons...
…he has the one spectacular month of April to start this year, followed by mostly crap. But because it happened in April, nobody’s ready to believe it quite yet.
cwyers - September 5, 2008
For the last time...
DeRo is a better SS than Theriot. That throw was my best evidence yet…
DeRoMyHero - September 5, 2008
DFA THERIOT!
BrewCrew'sPrinceofDarkness - September 5, 2008
time for a...
GIDP.

Lilly potentially starting a playoff game gives me nightmares
CubsBall2202 - September 5, 2008
I guess I won't be seeing Milton for a long time....
zevkalman - September 5, 2008
I miss Milton
I’m sure he misses us too.
Scrapptastic - September 5, 2008
Nice job, Teddy!
3-0, 2nd & 3rd. Thanks, noodle arm.
Itchy - September 5, 2008
Seriously guys
what’s good on TV tonight?
chilango2 - September 5, 2008
Race for the Cure
is taking over all the networks tonight. So not much.
I would recommend a bar.
BrewCrew'sPrinceofDarkness - September 5, 2008
My wife will be beat when she gets home
so no bar. I guess I’ll fire up the Wii or something.
chilango2 - September 5, 2008
Your going to beat your wife?!! It's not that bad man..it just a game!
santoswoodenlegs - September 5, 2008
Double 3-0
2nd/3rd
wnielsen - September 5, 2008
so much for the GIDP.
3-0 Reds.
Scrapptastic - September 5, 2008
why?????
sue369 - September 5, 2008
Cause
BrewCrew'sPrinceofDarkness - September 5, 2008
That's Why

GateCity, VA Cubs Fan - September 5, 2008
A Jon Lieber sighting....

Scrapptastic - September 5, 2008
Get Howry up.
santoswoodenlegs - September 5, 2008
Yup
How about Lou explode too.
BrewCrew'sPrinceofDarkness - September 5, 2008
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
sue369 - September 5, 2008
I guess it is fair to say this is not a good start.
this team looks a tad flat (I am trying to be nice).
LAcarl519 - September 5, 2008
You're trying to be nice? Why? They don't seem to be trying to be good.
santoswoodenlegs - September 5, 2008
I'll leave the rage to others.
LAcarl519 - September 5, 2008
Every part of this team is falling apart
Hitting went first, fielding followed and now pitching. The team is cratering and this could be a very long losing streak and potentially one of the more monumental collapses in baseball history. This team is unrecognizable at this point.
BeltwayCubsFan - September 5, 2008
Yup
BrewCrew'sPrinceofDarkness - September 5, 2008
Theriot looks like he always has....sucky.
santoswoodenlegs - September 5, 2008
DFA THERIOT!
BrewCrew'sPrinceofDarkness - September 5, 2008
It's only the second inning
sue369 - September 5, 2008
Yep...second inning of suck so far.
santoswoodenlegs - September 5, 2008
Oh please...
Get a grip…
Bump Bailey - September 5, 2008
Just pour and call the game
CubsBall2202 - September 5, 2008
So
I am guessing that the guys on the field are imposters. Dusty hired some muscle to gag and tie up the real team and hide them in lockers
love the ivy - September 5, 2008
good lord...walked in a run
sue369 - September 5, 2008
Stupid walk, 4-0
Itchy - September 5, 2008
Lilly blows tonight...
pull him early
Canadian Cubs Fan - September 5, 2008
what the hell is happening to this team?????
cubbie1029 - September 5, 2008
bases loaded and Larry out...
not a good sign
Emelie - September 5, 2008
Great day off....
glad to see we’ve come out of our funk.
Scrapptastic - September 5, 2008
Groove it
mattvegas - September 5, 2008
Stall!
The only thing we can hope for is a rainout.
Itchy - September 5, 2008
I pray for heavy rain from now until tomorrow morning
In Cincinnati, of course
wnielsen - September 5, 2008
Here comes
8-0.
Canadian Cubs Fan - September 5, 2008
Who abducted our Cubbies and left these imposters?
cowsarecool220 - September 5, 2008
6 straight balls
get it over the damn plate….
Scrapptastic - September 5, 2008
pitchers have bad starts
Lilly has been consistently good and this happens. But, as a playoff pitcher lilly is a concern because of how many HR he gives up. The offense is a train wreck at this point and even if we hold on AZ will slaughter us again in short order.
BeltwayCubsFan - September 5, 2008
Is Rose betting on the Reds tonight? It that why this is happening?
santoswoodenlegs - September 5, 2008
2-0 on Encar...LOL
BrewCrew'sPrinceofDarkness - September 5, 2008
7 more home runs tonight?
mattvegas - September 5, 2008
Only 4 more runs
BrewCrew'sPrinceofDarkness - September 5, 2008
Meh...
I’m gonna cook and stop paying attention. Hope they turn it around. I’ll read you all tomorrow.
chilango2 - September 5, 2008
HEY a strike
BrewCrew'sPrinceofDarkness - September 5, 2008
what is WRONG with our Cubs?!!!
Emelie - September 5, 2008
5-0
Itchy - September 5, 2008
Sac Fly
wnielsen - September 5, 2008
Pull most of the starters
and send them a message to WAKE UP!!!!
Canadian Cubs Fan - September 5, 2008

BrewCrew'sPrinceofDarkness - September 5, 2008
Len's with us... RAIN baby, RAIN
Emelie - September 5, 2008
This is painful...
plz dont do this to us this year cubbies…..
Rudey - September 5, 2008
Pinella's summer "rest the starters" strategy
is really paying off. These guys looked totally rested for the stretch run. Rested or Rest in Peace.
BeltwayCubsFan - September 5, 2008
No leaders stepping up.
None. Total team suckfest.
Itchy - September 5, 2008
Three down
BrewCrew'sPrinceofDarkness - September 5, 2008
Hey...at least Dunn isn't in this lineup.
santoswoodenlegs - September 5, 2008
2008 Cubs = 2007 Mets?
It’s starting to feel like that, huh?
BrewCrew'sPrinceofDarkness - September 5, 2008
This could be historic.
mattvegas - September 5, 2008
In a very bad way
BrewCrew'sPrinceofDarkness - September 5, 2008
DFA History!
santoswoodenlegs - September 5, 2008
No...the 2007 Mets had a ML SS.
santoswoodenlegs - September 5, 2008
what is up with these guys, are they setting us all up again...damn!!!!
alabebo - September 5, 2008
Hey, it's only 5-0
There is plenty of time to really get our asses kicked
wnielsen - September 5, 2008
lol
the pessimist in me enjoyed that :-D
love the ivy - September 5, 2008
boooooooooooooo
Emelie - September 5, 2008
oh now
it’s kind of funny
love the ivy - September 5, 2008
Come on Emelie
Everything will be alright
wnielsen - September 5, 2008
like the despair.com posters
The one that says Despair, it’s always darkest right before it goes pitch black or the one that says Challenges, I expected times like this – but I never thought they’d be so bad, so long, and so frequent.
love the ivy - September 5, 2008
Maybe you two should be alone....
santoswoodenlegs - September 5, 2008
Pretty craptastic thus far
it is early though. Maybe The bullpen will be lights out and Jedmonds can be a homerun hitting fool and win this game for us. Never thought I would type such things, but here it is.
love the ivy - September 5, 2008
Hold on...Did we give up...
When the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?
vonde6 - September 5, 2008
Germans?
mattvegas - September 5, 2008
Forget it
he’s rolling…
Goodie1969 - September 5, 2008
If they were bombing us for 100 years
we would have!
Rudey - September 5, 2008
Japs
Rudey - September 5, 2008
No
You’re supposed to say something like, “never mind, he’s on a roll.”
mattvegas - September 5, 2008
This team will come back! Just like the Salmon come back to Capistrano.
santoswoodenlegs - September 5, 2008
::chuckle::
Emelie - September 5, 2008
Deja Vu 1969
I’m having bad flashbacks.
AlaskaFan - September 5, 2008
Epic choke
for America’s lovable laughingstock. Beautiful.
Itchy - September 5, 2008
Lilly coming out...
Hoffpauir in to pinch hit.
Scrapptastic - September 5, 2008
somehow I feel better already
LAcarl519 - September 5, 2008

santoswoodenlegs - September 5, 2008
Good AB for Kosuke
GateCity, VA Cubs Fan - September 5, 2008
+1
I was about to say that.
vonde6 - September 5, 2008
Anybody else wonder if something is wrong with Teddy?
cowsarecool220 - September 5, 2008
besides him sucking at pitching? not really.
santoswoodenlegs - September 5, 2008
I think you have a diagnosis
Suckitis
wnielsen - September 5, 2008
I'm not too upset...
This team looks just like they did on that Houston-Arizona road trip right after the ASB. They came out of it playing great.
The same is going to happen this time — just in time for the playoffs.
DeRoMyHero - September 5, 2008
This looks worse actually
Mapmaker - September 5, 2008
this team is going to be fine.....
one week ago they looked like world beaters….they’ve led the Majors in offense for 130 games. Everybody needs to take a deep breath…they will be OK. Be glad Milwaukee is stinking up the place as well.
MOCubsfan - September 5, 2008
This is the time to use McGeehee...
Save Hoff for later in the game.
DeRoMyHero - September 5, 2008
NICE!!!!
ball drops for a double
cubsonWGN4ever - September 5, 2008
was it a double or an error?
GateCity, VA Cubs Fan - September 5, 2008
double error!
santoswoodenlegs - September 5, 2008
finally...
the Cubs get a break!
Scrapptastic - September 5, 2008
uhhhhhhhhhhhh
i’m confused
joeschmitt - September 5, 2008
We gotta take these bastards.
Now we could do it with conventional weapons that could take years and cost millions of lives. No, I think we have to go all out. I think that this situation absolutely requires a really futile and stupid gesture be done on somebody’s part…
Goodie1969 - September 5, 2008
I'd settle for
…a sacrifice fly.
vonde6 - September 5, 2008
Not with two outs.
mattvegas - September 5, 2008
I'm not as quick at posting
…as Sori is at striking out.
vonde6 - September 5, 2008
Good News, Bad News
Good News:
Starting to really get Arroyo on the pitch count – 10, 20, 25
Bad News:
By the time he’s out of the game, we’ll be down 11-2
vonde6 - September 5, 2008
Beep, Beep, Beep
That’s the sound of the Cubs backing into the playoffs.
mattvegas - September 5, 2008
LOL
Canadian Cubs Fan - September 5, 2008
at least with Lieber, the game will move quickly
LAcarl519 - September 5, 2008
HBP. Lilly could have done that.
mattvegas - September 5, 2008
DP!!!!!
vonde6 - September 5, 2008
Mr MoJo just changed jerseys
…could it be???
LAcarl519 - September 5, 2008
Lee really crushed that single
CubsBall2202 - September 5, 2008
For God's sake, we have two hits
Respect the baserunner. Encourage more baserunners.
vonde6 - September 5, 2008
2 hits
2 infield singles.
Canadian Cubs Fan - September 5, 2008
At least we have marquis going tomorrow
CubsBall2202 - September 5, 2008
Going for the infield single record tonight
vonde6 - September 5, 2008
Needed the 3-run bomb there...
not the flyout to right.
Canadian Cubs Fan - September 5, 2008
Slam, 9-0
I don’t have a good feeling about this game anymore.
