I thought about my actions before I clicked "POST"
and decided that there are no such things as curses, jinxes, or anything greater than a 0% chance that the Brewers or Cubs players are reading my BCB posts, on their edge of their seats, waiting to see what I say next.
The Matrix recycles a lot of pretty common sci-fi tropes (not that that’s a bad thing!) Dark City did a much more thoughtful presentation of the basic idea. Great, great movie.
Maybe it’s my copy of the Star Trek: Next Generation Technical Manual. Or the fact that I own all five seasons of Babylon 5 on DVD. Probably something along those lines.
He didn’t need to turn the DP, and probably couldn’t against Dickerson. He needed to get one out. Then the score is 3-2 with 2 outs and the infield back.
Cedeno is brutal, has been brutal since being a Cub and anyone that thinks he has any value whatsoever is seriously delusional. I don’t care what his bloop double did, he is terrible. Absolutely, unequivocally terrible. He has no place in this organization right now, or any other time.
he made a horrible play, no doubt. But he has no value? He has no place in this organization? Ok, since you obviously are the be all, end all when it comes to baseball talent evaluation, I will bow down before you.
When I need your opinion on anything other than which direction the sun rises from, I’ll let you know. Make all the excuses or apologies you want for Cedeno. He’s garbage.
…and no apologies or alibis for Cedeno or his continued poor play. Other than the fact that somehow someone somewhere decided to write his name in the lineup at SS, he is completely inept as a major league middle infielder. Period.
It started out with a bloop single that Edwards misplayed into a man at second.
Kerry walked the next batter. Then, on a bunt attempt, DLee threw out the man at third. Unfortunately, Kerry walked the next guy to load the bases. The critical play occurred when the next man hit a grounder up the middle that Cedeno could have turned two and gotten us out of the game but he booted it. Two runs scored and the next man up singled (only solid hit of the inning) and the game was over.
I wouldnt be so sure, everyone thinks we can just coast in and no one can do that
except the angels, this team needs to start winning more consistently, and the so called leaders like lee and wood have to step up when it counts, not choke
It hit off his glove, and he didn’t have to get into an awkward position or run hard to get to it. Yes, it took a funny bounce, but not an unplayable bounce at all.
He fucked up. It happens, but I’ve watched the replay almost 10 times now, and like I said he was too worried about getting the DP than actually fielding it first. He is a better fielder than Theriot ,hands down, but I’m telling you 9 times out of 10 Theriot even makes that play. But this is why Cedeno rides the bench mostly, his mental errors. Edmonds, Cedeno, and Wood all cost us in the 9th but we also left a lot of guys on base. We lost, onward.
through this losing streak until today. Horrible loss. I kind of had a bad feeling last night even though they won. Givng up 8 runs in the last two innings was a bad omen. Hope they can turn it around soon, because they can’t continue to rely on the Brewers playing like crap too.
getting to the playoffs isnt about proven players. You say Favre carried the team to the playoffs and I say the addition of Grant helped us more. Now your telling me none of that matters because he isnt proven? Just what the fuck are you trying to get across here? Explain to me because you keep switching the topics..
you might be a little biased? He has started 18 games in his career and has a 62.2 QB rating. I, and most people would take a gamble on Rodgers over this guy.
I think our buddy lexmark is in denial…
But anyway, what do you think of our chances this year? I think we’ll be fighting w/ the Vikes for the division.
playoffs is a possibility, but I am viewing this year as a transition year. I am in love with the defense though, I think these guys will continue to get better.
I said cedeno is better than theriot. You said chanman is cool.
I said younger players improve. You said that’s true. So I asked what your argument was. You said you “disagree with it.” I asked “disagree with me saying younger players improve?”. And that’s me arguing in circles? Ok bud.
and he’s been hitting MUCH better than Cedeno has in the “last year” And Cedeno and Theriot have virtually the same fielding percentage this year. How is he better?
Except it obviously proves that he does have more power.
We aren’t arguing about other players, we’re arguing between these two. Cedeno has more power. He doesn’t get consistent playing time like Theriot. He’s younger, and improving. Theriot has hit his peak. He’s a worse baserunner than Cedeno. He has half the arm of Cedeno. He’s just plain bad.
He was discussing fielding errors. I think Soriano is a possibilty. Why do you have an issue with that? Do you have to be opposed to everyones opinion but your own? Seems that way.
Wood really needs to throw strikes, not like the guys he went through were intimidating. Good thing the Brewers are struggling at the same time, getting swept by the mets and then splitting with the padres.
off did not hurt Woody’s control after the first 4 pitches and he was 2-2 on the batter. Karma strikes back. That was like the Cincy radio announcers raving about how much Harang throws inside and he had gone 149 innings before today and never hit anyone…oops.
CUBS ARE WINNING!
BREWERS ARE LOSING!
DROP THAT MAGIC NUMBER SOON!! WOOOOOO

Really?

How the HELL did I know you would mention DC
I’m so die-hard Matrix Trilogy, it dawned on me I had not see DC. Bought it bout 2 weeks ago, haven’t watched it yet.
dtpollitt - September 7, 2008
I don't know.
Maybe it’s my copy of the Star Trek: Next Generation Technical Manual. Or the fact that I own all five seasons of Babylon 5 on DVD. Probably something along those lines.
cwyers - September 7, 2008
Dark City was awsome...and it had Jennifer Connelly in it too...
But The Matrix was groundbreaking in its own way.
Bump Bailey - September 7, 2008
Mostly for how it looked.
The story was really old hat. Which, recycled sci-fi tropes are still awesome. But still.
cwyers - September 7, 2008
i think part of my problem w/ matrix
was that the trippy camera stuff made me ill and then i just spaced out.
halfblindcubbiegirl - September 7, 2008

Will the offense score any touchdowns tonight? Stay tuned!
dtpollitt - September 7, 2008
What's a touchdown?
And what does it have to do with Kyle Orton?

I'm watching the game
Just to see if Orton is:
(1) Chewing during the game
(2) Drinking Beam during the game
I can’t wait to find out the results.
dtpollitt - September 7, 2008
to me the question is: can the defense tackle ANYONE!
b/c it sure didn’t look like it in preseason.

And why does it irritate me to see WGN’s 9 thousanth replay of that stupid metamorphisis commercial?
Well, answering the second question is easy.
Cubfansince1957 - September 7, 2008
Because he smiles after doing things like

But the ones he blows, really blow.
ChipSet - September 7, 2008

I’m GameDay-ing it.
dtpollitt - September 7, 2008
2 run error by Cedeno, single, Cubs lose
spoiledcubbage - September 7, 2008
Ball takes a big hop on Cedeno, right up through his glove...
…and the Reds tie. Then the shot down third base line to lose it.
cwyers - September 7, 2008
Critical play was....
ground ball to Cedeno with bases loaded and he took his eye off to start the DP (with one out already) and booted it.
Cubfansince1957 - September 7, 2008
I think Wood could have avoided walking the bases loaded to set the situation up in the first place.
cwyers - September 7, 2008
exactly
sackings108 - September 7, 2008
agree. this one's on wood.
Emelie - September 7, 2008
Not completely
He induced the ground ball, probable DP ball.
Yes, he could have have started out better but he got the out pitch he needed.
Arbusto - September 7, 2008
Oh hell no.
A DP ball to the shortstop? I think Ronny’s practiced that what, six thousand times?
dtpollitt - September 7, 2008
how long has wood been pitching?
sackings108 - September 7, 2008
What is worse....
He didn’t need to turn the DP, and probably couldn’t against Dickerson. He needed to get one out. Then the score is 3-2 with 2 outs and the infield back.

FUCK THEM
BrewCrew'sPrinceofDarkness - September 7, 2008
Figures
Cedeno is brutal, has been brutal since being a Cub and anyone that thinks he has any value whatsoever is seriously delusional. I don’t care what his bloop double did, he is terrible. Absolutely, unequivocally terrible. He has no place in this organization right now, or any other time.
End of discussion.
krummy12 - September 7, 2008
you're an idiot.
he made a horrible play, no doubt. But he has no value? He has no place in this organization? Ok, since you obviously are the be all, end all when it comes to baseball talent evaluation, I will bow down before you.
sackings108 - September 7, 2008
Don't get all pissed off with each other.
It’s a sucky way to lose, and Cedeno made the critical error. No one feels good right now.
Cubfansince1957 - September 7, 2008
Well
When I need your opinion on anything other than which direction the sun rises from, I’ll let you know. Make all the excuses or apologies you want for Cedeno. He’s garbage.

yes b/c a bad hop only ever happens to him
halfblindcubbiegirl - September 7, 2008
Bad hop? He wasn't even looking at the ball.

that wasn't a bad hop
elgato - September 7, 2008
How was it not?
it took a wierd bounce straight up, if you were watching.
sackings108 - September 7, 2008
totally disagree
it was a high hop, and he took his eye off the ball
elgato - September 7, 2008
yeah, one game decides everything. God you people are ridiculous.
sackings108 - September 7, 2008
try four seasons
this is not an isolated incident.
elgato - September 7, 2008
of what?
Try Theriot’s been consistently bad for two years. Cedeno is a much better defender. He made a bad play.
sackings108 - September 7, 2008
theriot
has never thrown the ball into the stands when the play was still alive
elgato - September 7, 2008
Theriot couldn't throw the ball into the stands if he wanted to.
cwyers - September 7, 2008
Of course not
he can’t even get it to first base.
sackings108 - September 7, 2008

DeRo is the best defensive SS on this team.
DeRoMyHero - September 7, 2008

sweetswinger - September 7, 2008
sniffy the bee - September 7, 2008
No apologies accepted
…and no apologies or alibis for Cedeno or his continued poor play. Other than the fact that somehow someone somewhere decided to write his name in the lineup at SS, he is completely inept as a major league middle infielder. Period.
krummy12 - September 7, 2008
oh jesus christ.
yeah, because theriot is a better defender?
sackings108 - September 7, 2008
Stop defending Cedeno with Theriot arguments
Cedeno should have made that play
Basman - September 7, 2008
He should have, no doubt.
Then again, edmonds should’ve made his play, and wood should’ve controlled his pitches, right? This isn’t all on Cedeno. He got the RBI hit.
sackings108 - September 7, 2008
ronny cedeno
does not belong on a major league roster
plenz - September 7, 2008
I'd rather get this string out of us now
Then on 1 oct like last year.
sanantonecub - September 7, 2008
Agreed. I'm
going to get out of here and let others in here bash the players and each other. Way too much for me.
sue369 - September 7, 2008
FUCK YOU Ronny Cedeno.
You can be our team’s pinch runner, and that is all.
dtpollitt - September 7, 2008

yeah because no one besides Cedano could have driven in a run
DC Cubbie - September 7, 2008
he can't even be that!!!
remember last year he overslid 2nd back after a walk to the batter and he was out!
Chanman25 - September 7, 2008
But
But for the fact that he can’t run and has never displayed instincts of a professional baseball player. He has no value. None.
krummy12 - September 7, 2008

DC Cubbie - September 7, 2008
but i thought he was a savior to our current ss??
/Sarcasm
preachermancubsfan - September 7, 2008
could someone please explain what happened.
I have no radio or tv and have no idea what just happened
HectorVillanueva - September 7, 2008
It started out with a bloop single that Edwards misplayed into a man at second.
Kerry walked the next batter. Then, on a bunt attempt, DLee threw out the man at third. Unfortunately, Kerry walked the next guy to load the bases. The critical play occurred when the next man hit a grounder up the middle that Cedeno could have turned two and gotten us out of the game but he booted it. Two runs scored and the next man up singled (only solid hit of the inning) and the game was over.
Cubfansince1957 - September 7, 2008
Wow, this one is going to go into the books
…as an one of the great all time choke jobs this year
Brewers are going to lose, your crusing to a series victory after breaking out of it last night and Cedeno and Wood crap the bed.
JB 23 - September 7, 2008
I was really looking forward to seeing the number drop to 15 today
it would have been nice to see it drop cause we won. not cause someone else loss.

Chanman25 - September 7, 2008
What about Wood and Edmonds?
sackings108 - September 7, 2008
They share the blame too...
But, the Cedeno play was directly responsible. It either ended the game or did what it did…

dont be a tool
playoffs are a lock
lexmarklover - September 7, 2008
I wouldnt be so sure, everyone thinks we can just coast in and no one can do that
except the angels, this team needs to start winning more consistently, and the so called leaders like lee and wood have to step up when it counts, not choke
CubsBall2202 - September 7, 2008
The Cubs and the Brewers will both make the playoffs.
sackings108 - September 7, 2008
yeah, we're at 99.5% to make the playoffs. There's no way we aren't getting in.
sackings108 - September 7, 2008
The mets had a 7 game lead with 17 to play last year and still managed to choke
theres nothing to say that we dont have the same potential to do that as well
CubsBall2202 - September 7, 2008
But if we choke the division, we still will win the wildcard. The mets didn't have that cushion.
sackings108 - September 7, 2008
Well we have about a 7.5 game lead in the wildcard, so its pretty much the same thing
in terms of the size of the lead
CubsBall2202 - September 7, 2008
8.5

cubsfaninkc - September 7, 2008

Wood and Cedeno will both be on the playoff roster. Assuming we still get to October, this crap can’t happen again.
Hilary Lee - September 7, 2008
hey woods not going to save them all
2 error dont help, cant dwell on it, just write it off and get them next game
cubsfaninkc - September 7, 2008
6 blown saves on the year, this is hardly something new
DC Cubbie - September 7, 2008
Its going to happen in october too, we suck ass against the likes of the reds
the dbacks/dodgers will have a field day with us and our hit or miss lineup
CubsBall2202 - September 7, 2008
no way
cedeono is on our playoff roster
plenz - September 7, 2008
Yeah, because most teams only carry one shortstop on the postseason roster.
cwyers - September 7, 2008
he will be, who else would be a defensive replacement for Theriot?
Chanman25 - September 7, 2008
The same guy who is a defensive replacement for everyone else, while masquerading as a starting 2B.
DeRoMyHero - September 7, 2008
thank god for chris young
Chanman25 - September 7, 2008
I promise not to bitch if someone just tells me what happened?
HectorVillanueva - September 7, 2008
Cedeno booted a possible game-ending DP ball
2-run error, and the next hitter won it
Clutch16 - September 7, 2008
I answered your question after your first post asking the question.
Cubfansince1957 - September 7, 2008
scroll above you got an answer when you asked earlier :-)
Emelie - September 7, 2008
Woody gave up a 2 RBI single. It wasn't counted as an error.
sackings108 - September 7, 2008
Cedeno was simply Cedeno
DC Cubbie - September 7, 2008
this was a multiple effort
JEdmonds misplay, Wood not finding the strike zone, Cedeno boot
spoiledcubbage - September 7, 2008
Agreed
I like Ron’s comments afterwords… nothing except for “I’ll see you on the plane.”
Hilary Lee - September 7, 2008
Day off tomorrow
so this one gets to stew for an extra day+. Ugh.
ChipSet - September 7, 2008
Absolutely.
Only thing missing was Bartman.
sweetswinger - September 7, 2008
such sloppy defense lately dont ya think??
plenz - September 7, 2008
Earlier this year
Al got in an argument asking the stats group to find a game that Theriot’s defense actually lost.
Here’s one for Cedeno.
Arbusto - September 7, 2008
Not that it matters
They just changed the play to a hit. Not an error on Cedeno.
Arbusto - September 7, 2008
BS should be an error
no way that was a hit
Chanman25 - September 7, 2008
Why, it took a ridiculous hop, that theriot would've never fielded.
sackings108 - September 7, 2008
Maybe had he looked at the ball.
He as standing right there and looked away.
Arbusto - September 7, 2008
No he didn't
Brenly said he did, but he didn’t.
JohnM - September 7, 2008
watch the reply, he's not even watching the ball.
Arbusto - September 7, 2008
how do you know???
Chanman25 - September 7, 2008
Because I watched the play. Did you?
sackings108 - September 7, 2008
well Theriot wasn't out there, which makes me question if you watched it
Cedeno was staring down the bag not the ball. You can’t just say that Theriot wouldn’t have gotten it.
Chanman25 - September 7, 2008
It did look like
It took a bad hop. And not that Cedeno took his eye off it.
JohnM - September 7, 2008
Can you believe the scorer changed Cedeno's play to a hit???
Cubfansince1957 - September 7, 2008
It was a hit.
sackings108 - September 7, 2008
bullshit
elgato - September 7, 2008
I don't think so. It's only a hit if our SS isn't blind.
Cubfansince1957 - September 7, 2008
It took a sick hop. Watch the play. This is all on wood.
sackings108 - September 7, 2008
I'm watching it over and over
he’s right there. He just stopped looking at the ball.
Arbusto - September 7, 2008
All on Wood
Give me a break. He sucked and so did Cedeno and Edmonds in that inning. It’s on the team.
Jayo525 - September 7, 2008
Did you see how he pitched?
sackings108 - September 7, 2008
jeez, you living in Cedeno's basement or what, if you don't put at least some of the blame on him your nuts
DC Cubbie - September 7, 2008
WGN just showed the replay. Clearly an error.
Cubfansince1957 - September 7, 2008
Bull
He took his eye off the ball. That you can see.
Jayo525 - September 7, 2008
The ball took a wierd hop over his head.
sackings108 - September 7, 2008
No it didn't
It was a hard hit ball. You can’t anticipate anything perfectly but he got ahead of him. He fucked up. Get over it.
Jayo525 - September 7, 2008
No E on Cedeno?
Not even single + error? So all the runs are earned.
ChipSet - September 7, 2008
Watching the replay..
It wasn’t that easy of a play. The ball took a nasty hop, if you ask me.
Bump Bailey - September 7, 2008
Agreed
JohnM - September 7, 2008
agreed as well. Blame wood.
sackings108 - September 7, 2008

The good news is that it dropped even with this heartbreaker. We don’t need to win every one.
I’m outta here before it gets ugly in here.
spoiledcubbage - September 7, 2008
you're far too late.
Arbusto - September 7, 2008
why the hell does Edmonds constantly make stupid errors?
lexmarklover - September 7, 2008
good question. but lets just blame cedeno for wood's blown save.
sackings108 - September 7, 2008
the edmonds play
in this case, didn’t really matter. I agree with you that Wood gets some of the blame for the walks, but Cedeno NEEDS to make that play.
elgato - September 7, 2008
the thing is, it was an extremely tough play due to the hop it took.
sackings108 - September 7, 2008
really, i hadn't heard that yet
DC Cubbie - September 7, 2008
as rusty as Wood looked, having not pitched in 5 days, you can't blame him
when he gets the DP ball he needed. His defense did not deliver.
Cedeno made one of those brain-dead plays he used to make in 2007. welcome back.
LAcarl519 - September 7, 2008
no error on cedeno...thats a joke...he sucks balls
plenz - September 7, 2008
thats embarrasing how the score keeper just did that
lexmarklover - September 7, 2008
so he's a homosexual?
sackings108 - September 7, 2008
They gave him a hit?
Are you fucking kidding me?
Jayo525 - September 7, 2008
no hes not kidding
lexmarklover - September 7, 2008
It was a hit!
Watch the play. Nobody would field that.
sackings108 - September 7, 2008
it might have been tough to field but i think he could have knocked it down to keep the 2nd run from scoring
lexmarklover - September 7, 2008
then how about jolbert cabrera's hit?
sackings108 - September 7, 2008
u can predict baseball?
i didn’t know that
lexmarklover - September 7, 2008
Why do I have a feeling if that was Theriot
that missed that play your opinion would be a bit different?
Jayo525 - September 7, 2008
Exactly........
Theriot would be crucified at this point, but let’s defend Cedeno for the boneheaded play. Ridiculous.
carmen_fanzone - September 7, 2008
Cedeno should no longer be allowed in a game the rest of this year
nor on a major league roster for the rest of his career
CubsBall2202 - September 7, 2008
Because wood gave up a hit up the middle?
sackings108 - September 7, 2008
It was an error, a botched game ending double play
by someone that should be in AA
CubsBall2202 - September 7, 2008
hah, yeah right.
He’s a better hitter than our starting ss, and also a better fielder.
sackings108 - September 7, 2008
I beg to differ about hitting, stats alone can prove that
Chanman25 - September 7, 2008
uh, sample size my friend.
sackings108 - September 7, 2008
are you serious?
Career Stats
Theriot: 1205 AB, .290 BA, .389 OBP, .976 Fielding%
Cedeno: 865 AB, .254 BA, .291 OPB, .966 Fielding %
Chanman25 - September 7, 2008
are you going to ignore my argument?
Chanman25 - September 7, 2008
Cedeno might have a better arm, im sure theriot could have fielded that grounder
and at least wouldve gotten 1 out, in terms of hitting cedeno is just bad, at least theriot hits singles consistently
CubsBall2202 - September 7, 2008
grounder?
It was a 1 hop smash that took a wierd bounce. Theriot would’ve never gotten to it.
sackings108 - September 7, 2008
care to discuss anything else?
Hammer - September 7, 2008
i don't konw about a smash
lexmarklover - September 7, 2008
well if you don't know then watch the replay.
sackings108 - September 7, 2008
so wait I'm confused, you think it was hit?
DC Cubbie - September 7, 2008
It was a bad play
But it’s not nearly that bad.
Arbusto - September 7, 2008
That GW hit would have been a double
so if Cedeno had gotten the one out at 2nd the save would still have been blown.
ChipSet - September 7, 2008
Cedeno could have gotten a DP out of that. The game would have been over.
Cubfansince1957 - September 7, 2008
Disagree
JohnM - September 7, 2008
don't try to be rational.
every loss in cubs history is because of ronny cedeno, obviously. Can’t blame wood.
sackings108 - September 7, 2008
no u can never predict baseball. he might not have given that up
lexmarklover - September 7, 2008
then how can you predict it would've been a double play?
sackings108 - September 7, 2008
i can predict one out if he gets the ball
lexmarklover - September 7, 2008
All he has to do is field it, step on second and throw to first.
Most MLB shortstops make that play.
Cubfansince1957 - September 7, 2008
That is really off base.
Watch the replay. Most SS won’t make that play.
sackings108 - September 7, 2008
God this is frustrating
I really just want to go scream, but I’m working at the moment and can’t, lest people think I’ve gone to the loony bin…
Hilary Lee - September 7, 2008
ha
Emelie - September 7, 2008
oops meant for the post following
Emelie - September 7, 2008
theriot would of made that play hands down

LMAO!
sackings108 - September 7, 2008
Final in Milwaukee
Padres 10, Brewers 1
Magic number down to 16 on an otherwise disappointing day.
Clutch16 - September 7, 2008
padres
pads split on the road. definitely appreciate the help from the friars
mjk83 - September 7, 2008
Do the Cubs play Cinci again this year?
Hammer - September 7, 2008
Nope
All done with Dusty’s squad – good riddance
Clutch16 - September 7, 2008
Oh well
Wood will have to wait to next year to plunk that guy. He was not happy and it seemed like he wont forget it.
Hammer - September 7, 2008
No.
Hilary Lee - September 7, 2008
i dont even care about the brewers or whatever
just play well going into the playoffs and play well in the playoffs
lexmarklover - September 7, 2008
Well so far...
Not doing well on that first point… 1-5 in the month of September?
Hilary Lee - September 7, 2008
Anyone remember the 2005 white sox? The turned out fine...
sackings108 - September 7, 2008
I didn't really pay much attention then...
So I don’t exactly no what happened to them in September, no…
Hilary Lee - September 7, 2008
They went on a huge losing streak, had a horrible month,
dropped their division lead all the way down from like 16 to 3, backed into the playoffs, and then went 11-1 to win it all.
sackings108 - September 7, 2008
Whats the magic number for a playoff spot?
CubsBall2202 - September 7, 2008
163 because Cedeno's "error"
sackings108 - September 7, 2008
Did you even watch the game
because anyone with 2 eyes could tell that was an error, no questions asked, a bouncing ball up the middle that should have been a dp
CubsBall2202 - September 7, 2008
Yes, I watched it.
It had no chance of being fielded.
sackings108 - September 7, 2008
But even
knocking it down saves a run….
Hilary Lee - September 7, 2008
and then wood, who had been horrible, gave up a smash to jolbert cabrera.
sackings108 - September 7, 2008
He just didnt get in front of it, it should have been a double play
CubsBall2202 - September 7, 2008
He couldn't, because it was hit so hard.
sackings108 - September 7, 2008
I thought the same thing till I watched the replay again
Watch it again – see if you think it could be knocked down.
JohnM - September 7, 2008
Respectfully, I disagree.
It hit off his glove, and he didn’t have to get into an awkward position or run hard to get to it. Yes, it took a funny bounce, but not an unplayable bounce at all.
Cubfansince1957 - September 7, 2008
it was nearly impossible to field.
sackings108 - September 7, 2008
that is so stupid, it hit glove, so it obviously had a chance of being fielded.
DC Cubbie - September 7, 2008
I watched it. It was a very hard hit ball, difficult to field even if it didn't take a crazy hop that sped it up
But it did take an unexpected hop and I don’t thing anyone snags it.
JohnM - September 7, 2008
Why are you defending him to a fault?
He fucked up. It happens, but I’ve watched the replay almost 10 times now, and like I said he was too worried about getting the DP than actually fielding it first. He is a better fielder than Theriot ,hands down, but I’m telling you 9 times out of 10 Theriot even makes that play. But this is why Cedeno rides the bench mostly, his mental errors. Edmonds, Cedeno, and Wood all cost us in the 9th but we also left a lot of guys on base. We lost, onward.
Jayo525 - September 7, 2008
I'm only defending him,
because I think it’s ridiculous he’s getting more blame than wood.
sackings108 - September 7, 2008
well 2 errors in the inning
wood didnt do his job but the defense didnt pick him up when they were called upon.
bheidge - September 7, 2008
10, if I'm not mistaken
Clutch16 - September 7, 2008
it's 16.
sackings108 - September 7, 2008
For the division, or the playoffs either way?
CubsBall2202 - September 7, 2008
the division
sackings108 - September 7, 2008
Not the question I was answering
Had me worried for a second there.
Clutch16 - September 7, 2008
oh, ok, sorry.
may be 10 then
sackings108 - September 7, 2008
Nevermind
It’s 15. Cubs 86 wins-Mets 82 losses+1=15
Phillies lead the Mets 6-2 in the bottom of the 8th with the second game of the DH later.
Clutch16 - September 7, 2008
Grr.
Mets 62 losses.
Clutch16 - September 7, 2008
Mets are a division leader, try Philly
wnielsen - September 7, 2008
In that case, 13
Phils at 64 losses.
Clutch16 - September 7, 2008
Yep, I checked too
13 it is. If Philly can drop one of these games in the doubleheader it will be 12.
wnielsen - September 7, 2008
What about the wildcard
CubsBall2202 - September 7, 2008
I wasn't worried
through this losing streak until today. Horrible loss. I kind of had a bad feeling last night even though they won. Givng up 8 runs in the last two innings was a bad omen. Hope they can turn it around soon, because they can’t continue to rely on the Brewers playing like crap too.
qccub - September 7, 2008
DFA HIM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Galvan316 - September 7, 2008
And since you're being sarcastic,
I finally can agree with your point of view, galvan.
sackings108 - September 7, 2008
even though the cubs lost i can always depend on a
bears win
lexmarklover - September 7, 2008
Against the Colts?
Good luck on that one.
Hilary Lee - September 7, 2008
yea im not talking about week 6 iim talking about the game today
lexmarklover - September 7, 2008
they're playing the colts today.
sackings108 - September 7, 2008
i think i know that buddy.
lexmarklover - September 7, 2008
and they're going to beat the colts?
sackings108 - September 7, 2008
i said bears win
im thinking that a win is when they beat another team
lexmarklover - September 7, 2008
Bears suck
bheidge - September 7, 2008
good point. go pack go.
sackings108 - September 7, 2008
lol im predicting a week 1 loss to the vikings
lexmarklover - September 7, 2008
It's gonna be a tough game, no doubt, but I think we can win it. Certainly
the Packers and the Vikings will be fighting for the top spot, while the bears toil away.
sackings108 - September 7, 2008
no offense but the packers are going nowhere with rodgers as qb
lexmarklover - September 7, 2008
How can you make that judgement?
sackings108 - September 7, 2008
because i think aaron rodgers is not even close to brett farve
and lets be real brett farve had to be great for the packers to be in teh playoffs
lexmarklover - September 7, 2008
actually
I would give more credit to Grant than anyone else
bheidge - September 7, 2008
Ryan Grant hasnt even proved anything in the NFL. hes done it in what 12 games or so
so prove to me hes a good rb like he was last year and ill believe
lexmarklover - September 7, 2008
what?
getting to the playoffs isnt about proven players. You say Favre carried the team to the playoffs and I say the addition of Grant helped us more. Now your telling me none of that matters because he isnt proven? Just what the fuck are you trying to get across here? Explain to me because you keep switching the topics..
bheidge - September 7, 2008
Like the interception he threw to cost us the NFC championship?
How about Ryan Grant? or Greg Jennings and Donald Driver? Or the defense, with Al Harris and Charles Woodson, Nick Barnett, AJ Hawk?
sackings108 - September 7, 2008
dont mention wr when the qb is the reason why they get the ball
lexmarklover - September 7, 2008
So no wr is good in their own right?
sackings108 - September 7, 2008
when a wr runs a route and the cb is all over them
who throws them the ball in that tiny available spot? qb plays a large role in wr production
lexmarklover - September 7, 2008
obviously.
But what team in the NFL had the most yards after the catch last year? The packers. And that’s because of their WRs.
sackings108 - September 7, 2008
show me that aaron rodgers can make the same throws as farve
lexmarklover - September 7, 2008
it goes both ways
a QB isnt shit if he doesnt have any decent WR’s
bheidge - September 7, 2008
yea i know that but the arguement is stemming on the fact that
rodgers cant make the same throws as farve. sure u can have great wr but hows he gonna get teh ball
lexmarklover - September 7, 2008
with a first round pick, who's finally getting his chance to start?
yeah, he’ll definitely be horrible though. good point.
sackings108 - September 7, 2008
i didnt say horrible
and there have been plenty of 1st round busts.
lexmarklover - September 7, 2008
so that guarantee's he'll be one?
sackings108 - September 7, 2008
you're guaranteeing me that he'll be great
lexmarklover - September 7, 2008
no i'm not.
I just said I hope he will be good, and I think the packers will compete for the division. Where did I guarantee that?
sackings108 - September 7, 2008
when did i say rodgers was a bust
lexmarklover - September 7, 2008
why is there all this silly arguing over Rodgers
(on BCB, no less!). Don’t you think the answer about whether Rodgers “is worthy” will be answered after three games against MINN, DET & DAL?
LAcarl519 - September 7, 2008
DET, not so much...
but yes. Of course, all these questions will be answered in time. Just something to do to avoid the Cubs game.
sackings108 - September 7, 2008
they all cant be Kyle Ortons
gravity is really a bitch when it comes to his noodle arm
bheidge - September 7, 2008
he's actually proven he can win in the NFL
rodgers hasnt
lexmarklover - September 7, 2008
Hah!
So you would take Orton over Rodgers?
sackings108 - September 7, 2008
yes i would
lexmarklover - September 7, 2008
are you saying that because
you might be a little biased? He has started 18 games in his career and has a 62.2 QB rating. I, and most people would take a gamble on Rodgers over this guy.
bheidge - September 7, 2008
lol
good luck with him this year. I would rather have an unproven…
bheidge - September 7, 2008
good luck without farve youngster
lexmarklover - September 7, 2008
psst, bheidge...
I think our buddy lexmark is in denial…
But anyway, what do you think of our chances this year? I think we’ll be fighting w/ the Vikes for the division.
sackings108 - September 7, 2008
why won't u answer my question of
when did i say rodgers was a bust
lexmarklover - September 7, 2008
you didn't
you just said they packers wouldn’t be good because they don’t have favre.
sackings108 - September 7, 2008
I really dont have too much hope for this year
playoffs is a possibility, but I am viewing this year as a transition year. I am in love with the defense though, I think these guys will continue to get better.
bheidge - September 7, 2008
See what you're saying,
but I think we have a chance to be good.
sackings108 - September 7, 2008
dont be a bitch.
if somebody asks you a question answer it.
lexmarklover - September 7, 2008
lmao
relax bud, i answered it twice. read 3 posts up. but it’s always really manly to call people a bitch on the internet.
sackings108 - September 7, 2008
thank you for calling me manly i appreciate it.
and did u see the jets-dolphins game? didnt farve look good
lexmarklover - September 7, 2008
yes he did look pretty good.
I wish him nothing but the best in NY
bheidge - September 7, 2008
i feel the same way.
sackings108 - September 7, 2008
it was time to let farve go though. it was enough of not knowing before training camp.
lexmarklover - September 7, 2008
I agree
We know what the defense can do, its up to the offense at this point. Monday against the vikings will be a HUGE test.
bheidge - September 7, 2008
I think I'll adjust my expectations for the season after that game.
I’m hoping big though. I really think Rodgers has potential.
sackings108 - September 7, 2008
and the bears are going where with Orton?
bheidge - September 7, 2008
To Indianapolis?
:p
Hilary Lee - September 7, 2008
I hope you're right, but I think you're drinking the kool aide.
Cubfansince1957 - September 7, 2008
And 'Rex is our quarterback'
Jayo525 - September 7, 2008
Actually,
Kyle is our quarterback. Just sayin’
Hilary Lee - September 7, 2008
I know.
I was quoting Lovie Smith from last year.
Jayo525 - September 7, 2008
bears win?? is that a joke?
Btown - September 7, 2008
are u a joke?
lexmarklover - September 7, 2008
attack of the 12 year olds...
sackings108 - September 7, 2008
attack of the 70 yr olds
lexmarklover - September 7, 2008
uh. im 18
sackings108 - September 7, 2008
uh im 22
lexmarklover - September 7, 2008
great
sackings108 - September 7, 2008
Fill in the blank
Don Young; Leon Durham; Alex Gonzales; ___________
sweetswinger - September 7, 2008
jj hardy
lexmarklover - September 7, 2008
Ryan Theriot?
sackings108 - September 7, 2008
you can so easily critize Theriot when he hasn't done this in any games this year
but you can’t accept that Cedeno had a shitty play? And you still haven’t responded to my argument about Theriot being a better hitter than Cedeno
Chanman25 - September 7, 2008
yeah I did. I said small sample size. And Theriot's defense has cost us many games.
sackings108 - September 7, 2008
ha...cop out.
Hammer - September 7, 2008
um I'd beg to differ, its not that small a sample size
Career Stats
Theriot: 1205 AB, .290 BA, .389 OBP, .976 Fielding%
Cedeno: 865 AB, .254 BA, .291 OPB, .966 Fielding %
Cedeno you could say is statistically worse than Theriot
Chanman25 - September 7, 2008
Career?
Cedeno is younger, and is progressing. He’s become a better hitter in the last year. His earlier stats mean nothing.
sackings108 - September 7, 2008
FAILURE
Hammer - September 7, 2008
Wow. At least Chanman is making arguments.
But thanks for that insight.
sackings108 - September 7, 2008
Apparently when someone actually shows you the evidence
you still argue against it.
Good day to you Mr Bernstein
Hammer - September 7, 2008
What evidence have you shown me?
sackings108 - September 7, 2008
I didnt show you anything. I said "someone" - Enter Chanman
Hammer - September 7, 2008
He showed me career stats.
Are you saying that players don’t get better?
sackings108 - September 7, 2008
No. Because that would be foolish.
Hammer - September 7, 2008
Ok, so that's my argument.
What is your point then?
sackings108 - September 7, 2008
I disagree with it.
“Plane” and simple.
Hammer - September 7, 2008
Disagree with me saying that younger players improve?
sackings108 - September 7, 2008
Im done, sorry.
Youre hopeless and arguing in circles.
Hammer - September 7, 2008
I said cedeno is better than theriot. You said chanman is cool.
I said younger players improve. You said that’s true. So I asked what your argument was. You said you “disagree with it.” I asked “disagree with me saying younger players improve?”. And that’s me arguing in circles? Ok bud.
sackings108 - September 7, 2008
BlueMike you're here!!!
Hammer - September 7, 2008
I thought you we're done?
But I know you must be a regular here, if anytime you can’t prove your point you resort to calling the other person BlueMike.
sackings108 - September 7, 2008
Logic
apparently eludes you
Jayo525 - September 7, 2008
um so has Theriot
and he’s been hitting MUCH better than Cedeno has in the “last year” And Cedeno and Theriot have virtually the same fielding percentage this year. How is he better?
Chanman25 - September 7, 2008
Look at their ages.
Who has more power?
sackings108 - September 7, 2008
sure he is younger, but that necessarily doesn't mean he is better
and both of them are not really power hitters. Cedeno has 13 HR, while Theriot has 7
Chanman25 - September 7, 2008
uhh... 13 is a lot more than 7. Clearly Cedeno is the better defender.
FP doesn’t tell you anything. Look at their zone ratings, OOZ plays, etc. Theriot has no range.
sackings108 - September 7, 2008
13 home runs in 800+ at bats is bad.
Especially when you are arguing he is better because he has more “power.”
Hammer - September 7, 2008
Except it obviously proves that he does have more power.
We aren’t arguing about other players, we’re arguing between these two. Cedeno has more power. He doesn’t get consistent playing time like Theriot. He’s younger, and improving. Theriot has hit his peak. He’s a worse baserunner than Cedeno. He has half the arm of Cedeno. He’s just plain bad.
sackings108 - September 7, 2008
There it is
I’d like to see the our W-L record when he makes an error. He’s fucked up a lot too, but it’s rarely cost us the game.
Jayo525 - September 7, 2008
Alfonso Soriano
Hammer - September 7, 2008
Huh? The guy who's carried the team? The guy who won the game for us yesterday?
The guy who gunned another guy down at the plate today?
sackings108 - September 7, 2008
is he good defensively?
lexmarklover - September 7, 2008
No, but he isn't bad.
sackings108 - September 7, 2008
he can throw but hes below average when it comes to getting the ball
lexmarklover - September 7, 2008
true
sackings108 - September 7, 2008
I would say compared to the most left fielders
he is actually above average….
bheidge - September 7, 2008
no hes not
lexmarklover - September 7, 2008
yes he is.
He gets to balls, and has a cannon.
sackings108 - September 7, 2008
Yes.
He was discussing fielding errors. I think Soriano is a possibilty. Why do you have an issue with that? Do you have to be opposed to everyones opinion but your own? Seems that way.
Hammer - September 7, 2008
Yeah, this was a random game, when the Cubs have a cushion. Hardly a season changer, or playoff changer.
sackings108 - September 7, 2008
Cedeno
would get my vote for Cubs Hall of Infamy if this season goes South.
sweetswinger - September 7, 2008
Well, I'm out of here. Hope we're in a better mood after Tuesday night.
Take care , all of you.
Cubfansince1957 - September 7, 2008
un-fucking-believable
Wood really needs to throw strikes, not like the guys he went through were intimidating. Good thing the Brewers are struggling at the same time, getting swept by the mets and then splitting with the padres.
bheidge - September 7, 2008
can blame this one on wood, its all on cedeno...plane and simple...just didnt make the play
Btown - September 7, 2008
Well to be fair...
Without Wood, those guys wouldn’t have been on base. But it was a shitty shitty play.
Hilary Lee - September 7, 2008
Huh? well as long as it's "plane" and simple to you i guess...
sackings108 - September 7, 2008
true, he did walk 2 guys, one after having an 0-2 count
Btown - September 7, 2008
haha, whoops my bad
Btown - September 7, 2008
I'm out...
I’ll see you all on Tuesday. I think tonight is a gumbo and brownie night… maybe I’ll cry into my beer as well…
Hilary Lee - September 7, 2008
ull def be crying after the bears game tonight!
Btown - September 7, 2008
i don't want to call about this game so...
Sox lose Sox lose. Misery loves company. I can’t wait for the Cubs to win in STL this week. I think the Reds might have just fired some people up.
KyCubsFan - September 7, 2008
Did lou give a postgame press conference?
CubsBall2202 - September 7, 2008
Terrell Owens is such an asshole.
Hammer - September 7, 2008
The bears would take him....
sackings108 - September 7, 2008
yes the bears would.
lexmarklover - September 7, 2008
and he would still be an asshole
Hammer - September 7, 2008
let's blame Brenly as he declared that the 5 days
off did not hurt Woody’s control after the first 4 pitches and he was 2-2 on the batter. Karma strikes back. That was like the Cincy radio announcers raving about how much Harang throws inside and he had gone 149 innings before today and never hit anyone…oops.
You gotta blame someone right?
