but enough of this ‘shaking it off’. This is downright ridiculous. every game that is played has the making of an absolutely terrible collapse…whether we want to believe it or not…
In situations like that I always ask myself what would a sabermagician have done differently. Kidding aside, I didn’t see the logic in bunting either. I think Lou was trying to mix it up for a slumping offense.
He sprinted out the whole season…..and now that the Cubs need to be loose and a team he has the team so tense they can’t play. He’s afraid to use anyone out of the pen….he not geting people in places they are likely to succeed……
Hey, It isn't any longer just important what brew crew does
The cubs have played the Astros, cards, phillies, brew crew, dodgers, diamonbacks, giants all back into this race. Amazing. I was joking about the giants.
save Saturday night’s game for the last two weeks or so……if they start hitting again they’re in…..if not…they still might/probably get in…but will be 3 and done.
they’re going to the post. They’ll pull this out. They played pretty well today, left too many on base, but if Pujols gets a little under that one he hit, this is our game.
Sometimes, it’s just tough luck. We got outplayed.
that is what losing teams do. crap IF the cardinals hadn’t blown 30 freaking games out of the bullpen they’d be in first by 20 games right now. If you throw to Puljols you get burned. why is that so hard.
They fail mentally with runners on base, and pound the ball into the ground, causing double plays. They cannot execute simple plays.
The pitching has been good enough. The hitting has been horrendous – both in terms of contact, and ESPECIALLY in terms of power. Can you really see this team beating a good MLB team consistently?
Sucking at the start of the season and turning good is way better than doing very well at the beginning and then pulling a historic choke job at the end.
The Cubs will win the NL Central and the Cardinals will not make the playoffs despite their very surprising year. Cardinals are trying to play the role of spoiler. So far at least they are off to magnificent start.
Tonight’s three run bomb reinforces the case for Albert Pujols winning the NL MVP despite his protests to the contrary.
I know that Al showed a list of poor finishes by championship teams, but…. this is something special. They are poor in absolutely every aspect of the game, and they are incapable of hitting for power. I just don’t see a way that they can beat MLB teams consistently – or even occasionally.
I will remain hopeful, but, to quote Bob Dylan – it’s not dark yet… but it’s gettin there.
but the difference tonight was simple, Soriano is not Puljols. Soriano bases loaded against a guy who can only locate a fastball and Sori just missed. Albert doesn’t miss.
Reds win when Dusty comes out of retirement, is added to the 40 man roster and hits one of his patented doubles from his Dodger days to drive in Brandon Phillips.
Team has that fearful, tight look in their eyes......
trying not to lose but waiting for bad stuff to happen……we get a 3-0 lead and then stop hitting runners in……then that moronic Geo bunt attempt…..and an oops check swing does us in………the team expects to lose now……instead of expecting to win……if we do blow this it will be one for the record books!
Never mind.......I forgot the refreshing feeling of Cubs fans ripping on each other......
we all have our opinions…..sure mine is clouded by extreme dismay about losing 8 of 9……..but I guess I have not right to say anything without expecting the finger wagging superiority of a better fan than I am….
This is why you can win in a division in April and May. The Cubs early season play and mid season play allows them to have this skid. If they were mediocre at any time during the year, we would be falling away but we have afforded ourselves the safety net we have. We need to just calm down. We have 18 to go, the magic number for the playoffs is 11 and the division is still at 15 for now, the LOWEST for any team not named the Angels. Think about that, we have the 2nd biggest cushion right now.
Rather it is a ballclub whose ass is dragging. Again tonight nearly every player looked tired out there. I dont’ get it. Maybe they all need to get a couple extra hours sleep tonight.
I don't understand why this team appears burned out...
Piniella utilizes his full complement of players as well as any manager in the game. The only pitchers who can make reasonable claim for being a bit gassed are Marmol, Dempster and Lilly. The only position player perhaps Edmonds given his assortment of nagging injuries. Why does everybody on this team look they pulled consecutive all-nighters?
This is where leadership in the dugout needs to take over...
Maybe the resident goofball Ryan Dempster needs to lighten the collective mode by pulling some pranks. Crawl up to Lou and give him a hot foot. Light a bag of dogshit on fire. Something.
…but even that stuff can’t stop the bus if the whole team is playing tighter than hell. You hope they pull out of it before this thing gets really interesting.
Now I get to deal with some idiot Cardinal fans in class tomorrow. We lose on a god damn joke check swing. Magic number is 11 for the playoffs. Thats the only good thing I can think of, and I think we need to start hoping for that.
well it’s “only one game” and i get that. i’m not a ledge jumper. but i do live with a cardinals fan and he’s listening to cardinals post game live. loudly.
I know we’ve been losing games we should be winning…but we’re still in first place…and we’re still in control of our own destiny…we play the Brewers again before the end of the season.
April: It’s early. Don’t worry about it.
May: Seriously, it’s only May.
June: It’s not even the All-Star Break.
July: They’ll get reinforcements at the deadline.
August: There’s still time.
September: Wait until next year.
Or, in the case of this season, we get “don’t worry, we’re still up SIX GAMES/FIVE GAMES/FOUR GAMES/THREE AND A HALF GAMES” every day. It’s OK to admit that the team is failing pretty hard. It’s not an insult – it’s acknowledging reality.
They’re very fortunate that they were so hot earlier — these guys are not rising to the pressure of a division race. And make no mistake, we’re suddenly in a division race.
Optimism is one thing – Pollyannaism is another. We can be hopeful that they’ll pull out of this tailspin, while acknowledging that they’re augering into the finish line.
The Cubs are a good baseball team, but they’re definitely picking a bad time to play .150 ball for a few weeks. My post is a pretty measured response to a pretty serious situation.
Willful ignorance on our part will do absolutely nothing to change the team’s performance tomorrow. By that same token, neither will pulling our hair out. But must we pretend that all is well? It’s silly.
When our lead in the division gets down to 1 or something like that, let me know. This is just how baseball is. How many teams have had the season we have had and not had some rough spot. It just how baseball is.
Next week at home against the Brewers and Cards would be a great time.....
to get rolling again……..just as the sphincters are tightening we decimate the Brewers and Cards back to back…….that would be a great storyline……..at home saving the season in front of a rollicking crowd…..gonna visualize that hard!!!!!
And of course your thoughts are the only ones that matter
For the record I am not that superstitious. I didn’t want Al to put the number up in the first place, not because it was bad luck. I just don’t think we should be counting chickens before they hatch.
“You can’t play baseball with a puckered up asshole.”
Well the Cubs are doing just that. You can see it from the looks on their faces in the dugout. You couldn’t drive a needle up their ass with a ball peen hammer.
To cure us of this shitty stage
And then grab someone outta the cage
Outta “Bull Durham” he will take a page
And Lou will finally throw a fit, disengaging from all.
Well, I just wrote my completely overworked Cub fan pal
I’ve been keeping him appraised of the Cubs’ performance as each “inning” (1/9 – 18 games) of the season goes by. This latest update wasn’t too optimistic, but it did end this way:
As you can see, the Cubs have had two previous stretches of playing .500 baseball for 18 games (2nd and 5th ninths). They pulled out of the first one in impressive fashion (12-6), but were a little slower coming out of the second stretch (10-8). The good news comes two ninths later: in 4, they went 12-6, and in 7, they went 13-5. If they stick with that trend, this last ninth of the regular season should be a winner for them, and then the next ninth should be killer.
Maybe Derrek Sleep Walking Lee and the other veterans got the message tonight...
Need to light a fire under the ass of the supposed veteran leaders of this ballclub. Derrek McGriff is supposed to be a leader, so go out there and lead by example.
If anyone subscribes to RotoWorld, I get their DailyDose in inbox each morning.
I thought today’s snipet about Pujols was fascinating. And then he did what he did tonight:
* It sounds like Albert Pujols might move forward with Tommy John surgery this offseason. I say “why not get the surgery now then, Albert?” He’s known for a couple of seasons that the procedure would eventually have to be done and now, with his Redbirds 5.5 games back in the Wild Card race, the time has come. If he has the procedure in late October, there’s no way he’ll be ready for the start of next season. He has it now? There’s a chance. If King Albert wants to wait another month or two to decide, the Cardinals have to step in and force him to play another season in pain. They host the All-Star Game in 2009 and will! want the face of their franchise around to participate. Albert knows that. He’s also hoping to play in the World Baseball Classic. A decision needs to be made. with a little hustle.
Which therefore heightens the importance on me keeping the right one. I still would go ga-ga over Prince Fielder in a Cub uniform. I could get used to his left handed bat belting 50 HRs and 120 RBIs.
I’d take that fat lardass over Lee. He’s fuckin lazy, he will be both injury-prone and diabetic-probable in a few years, and he’s almost a clubhouse nightmare. No way in hell.
…he’s not that much "worse" than he has been throughout his career. I think we were spoiled by his MVP-run in 2005. His career OPS+ is 123, whereas this year it is 112. Don’t forget, he’s a Gold Glove first baseman. I get a bit pissy at all the D.Lee naysayers.
The guy has more plate appearances than anyone else on the team. He gets more opportunities to hit with men on base than just about anyone else. His previous GIDP high was 18 in 2001, and now he’s got 25. That is significantly more, but let’s be real people. He’s lock-solid at first base – would you rather have another defender @ 1B in a tight game? He’s a field general and one of the best guys on the team. But if you wanna look at stats, give the whole picture, damnit.
Pitching is fine with exception of the Lilly and Z start. Nobody in the middle of the lineup is hitting. Not to be captain obvious but until the hit, this slide is going to continue.
I think we try this again tomorrow right before 715 pm central time (515 your time), and lemme know how it goes. If all goes according to plan, we have a new pre-game ritual.
I was kinda hoping the media would call out Lou tonight...
…and just give that spark we need. Lou’s been managing like butt lately, quite frankly. And he needs to step up just as much – IF NOT MORE – than the players right now.
first lets goooo

bunting….on purpose…..in a real game….
santoswoodenlegs - September 9, 2008
Well....
In situations like that I always ask myself what would a sabermagician have done differently. Kidding aside, I didn’t see the logic in bunting either. I think Lou was trying to mix it up for a slumping offense.
MDBNIU - September 9, 2008
The offense looked to be waking up a bit....3 early runs....
before he decided to use one of the best hitters on the team as an automatic out.
santoswoodenlegs - September 9, 2008
You'd think Trammel would have told Lou that's a bad idea....
I mean, isn’t that his job?

Perhaps he did
Lou still makes the end call

Can someone tell me what happened on that last play?
Please.
dtpollitt - September 9, 2008
Izturis channeled some old cricketing skills
and Ryan made a good slide around Soto.
Bill Potter - September 9, 2008
check swing roller
Lee throws home, good slide, gets hand in ahead of throw.
kentmeister - September 9, 2008
GameDay says it was DeRosa?
Fuckin’ weird.
dtpollitt - September 9, 2008
it was derosa
halfblindcubbiegirl - September 9, 2008
Check swing grounder just past Marmol to Dero
play at the plate a shade too late
Basman - September 9, 2008
Simple
The Cardinals “accidentally” won
rrtycoon2 - September 9, 2008
again the runners left on kill us
alabebo - September 9, 2008
two terrible games in a row
we gotta at least win ONE!
Chanman25 - September 9, 2008
Thats just terrible
How the hell does that happen? A Check Swing. I laugh but it hurts to see them with that way
niuhuskie224 - September 9, 2008
How many times we gotta say....that one really hurts?
razzpunk - September 9, 2008
Itd be nice
if this were the last time.
Reddevil - September 9, 2008
I gotta get off this board its only gonna get worse

Chanman25 - September 9, 2008
I need Al

Ronny needs a hug.
cowsarecool220 - September 9, 2008
Cub nation needs a hug
RIOTSHIRTS.com - September 9, 2008
Ronny is a wee bit depressed tonight
There is a distinct chance this season kills him.
MDBNIU - September 9, 2008
At least then he would finally get voted into the HOF....
cause that’s what it’s going to take.
santoswoodenlegs - September 9, 2008
groundout 5-3
Reds have 2 out, still bases loaded
ugh
Shanghai Badger - September 9, 2008
Vintage Jerry Hairston Jr. right there

Good night, guys and gals.
I’ll see you back here tomorrow.
Bill Potter - September 9, 2008
Nothing positive to say anymore
This team is in freefall mode-all we can do is hope the Brewers keep losing.
bluekoolaide - September 9, 2008
losing 4-3
is not being in free-fall.
drewishdrewid - September 9, 2008
Losing
eight out of nine is.
qccub - September 9, 2008
Hannigan

drewishdrewid - September 9, 2008
Surprised Dusty let him work a full count
be aggressive (dude) hack at everything (dude)
kentmeister - September 9, 2008
Can we not win anymore?
I seriously need a good explanation from someone as to why this team is losing?
We arent plagued with injuries, we are the same team with more experience just straight up choking in game after game.
Im a grown man who cage fights every month and this team makes me want to cry.
Rudey - September 9, 2008
well
we did win that one game three days ago.
drewishdrewid - September 9, 2008
man...that was a good time....I sort of remember that.
santoswoodenlegs - September 9, 2008
MMmm
i guess i mean win convincingly, not just a night of offense but a team that looks like it can win again.
Rudey - September 9, 2008
I feel your pain Rudey
Right now I have to think that this team is so tight that they’re in panic mode. It’s only going to get worse from this point.
bluekoolaide - September 9, 2008
You could be on to something
it just might be that they are playing too tight…
RIOTSHIRTS.com - September 9, 2008
I find only happiness
in knowing these guys arent getting mad at each other and sticking it out with each other.
I feel they are gonna turn it around but we are running out of time and wasting so many chances.
Rudey - September 9, 2008
did anyone see this collapse coming??? will it end???
nervousCUBlover - September 9, 2008
I'm sure they were asking the same questions in 1969
How did that one turn out?
bluekoolaide - September 9, 2008
Hey, It isn't any longer just important what brew crew does
The cubs have played the Astros, cards, phillies, brew crew, dodgers, diamonbacks, giants all back into this race. Amazing. I was joking about the giants.
graceunderpressure - September 9, 2008
So are they in the postseason?
What do you all really think?
Not Bruce Froemming - September 9, 2008
We're in
and we’ll win the first series. This I believe.
Reddevil - September 9, 2008
Not if they don't consistently hit.
They have to play better or they will be gone early in the playoffs.
Fraggin Judge - September 9, 2008
I'd take our offense
over any other NL option.
Reddevil - September 9, 2008
The offense has looked like the 07 version
save Saturday night’s game for the last two weeks or so……if they start hitting again they’re in…..if not…they still might/probably get in…but will be 3 and done.
kcjones - September 9, 2008
not to be a pessimistic cubs fan.........
but the confidence is gone, the schedule is awful and the rest of world is hot.
graceunderpressure - September 9, 2008
no worries
well, some, but we’ll make it
kentmeister - September 9, 2008
Even a few days ago
I thought it was a lock. I’m not so sure anymore. This is getting ridiculous.
qccub - September 9, 2008
Cesar Izturis is the next Augie Ojeda
This can only mean we are going to have Freddy Bynum beat us next.
MDBNIU - September 9, 2008
No....Kevin Orie will come out of retirement.
santoswoodenlegs - September 9, 2008

dtpollitt - September 9, 2008
This team looks for new ways to lose every night!
It’s an official collapse, now. However, I’m still hopeful that they’ll turn it around.
Fraggin Judge - September 9, 2008
well, if they turn it around, then it's not a collapse, is it...
ballhawk - September 9, 2008
I'm out.
they’re going to the post. They’ll pull this out. They played pretty well today, left too many on base, but if Pujols gets a little under that one he hit, this is our game.
Sometimes, it’s just tough luck. We got outplayed.
drewishdrewid - September 9, 2008
I blame the Bush Administration.
santoswoodenlegs - September 9, 2008
Funny. Me too.
dtpollitt - September 9, 2008
stop with the ifs.......
that is what losing teams do. crap IF the cardinals hadn’t blown 30 freaking games out of the bullpen they’d be in first by 20 games right now. If you throw to Puljols you get burned. why is that so hard.
graceunderpressure - September 9, 2008
They played very poorly. VERY poorly.
They need to make changes after the season.
D98 - September 9, 2008
what about the Brewers, they are not falling apart they have not gained a game on us in
a while since the all star break
brownbuddha - September 9, 2008
They may be 3.5 games back tonight.
That would be too close.
Fraggin Judge - September 9, 2008
I don't care about the Brewers
The fact that they’ve stunk lately doesn’t make up for the fact that we’re completely self-destructing
bluekoolaide - September 9, 2008
Well now I know which is better...
Sucking at the start of the season and turning good is way better than doing very well at the beginning and then pulling a historic choke job at the end.
rrtycoon2 - September 9, 2008
The Black Cats
Are celebrating all over St. Louis
sweetswinger - September 9, 2008
This much I know...
MDBNIU - September 9, 2008
This team deserves to miss the playoffs.
D98 - September 9, 2008
Right - I have no idea how the hell they won 86 games so far
wnielsen - September 9, 2008
"Deserve's Got Nothing To Do With It"

Reddevil - September 9, 2008
Sooooooo the 86 times they have beat MLB teams was....luck?
santoswoodenlegs - September 9, 2008
how can a fan of any team say that, you played hard all year and since you are having a bad 2-3 weeks
you should just kill yourself and find new job because you suck
brownbuddha - September 9, 2008
i don't know what they deserve
but the difference tonight was simple, Soriano is not Puljols. Soriano bases loaded against a guy who can only locate a fastball and Sori just missed. Albert doesn’t miss.
graceunderpressure - September 9, 2008
he never gets an out
brownbuddha - September 9, 2008
Because Albert is a better hitter than 98% of every other human being on the planet earth.
santoswoodenlegs - September 9, 2008
Can we please

Reddevil - September 9, 2008
Can't...they play for Cuba.
santoswoodenlegs - September 9, 2008

any major league player is 98% better then any other human not in MLB.

Rudey - September 9, 2008
I'm just reinforcing why I so much would have faced Ludwick with the bases loaded
Lets not try to be brave here. Puljols is 10 times the hitter Bonds was and noone would pitch to him except for first inning or blow outs.
graceunderpressure - September 9, 2008
This slump is no different
from all the WS-winners’ slumps that Al outlined. Get a grip.
ChipSet - September 9, 2008
Huh?
Good grief….
Bump Bailey - September 9, 2008
Heres hoping Cinci can the do the work for us again....
DC Cubbie - September 9, 2008
We were supposed to control our destiny.
And now we are reduced to pray for the Brewers to suck more! Time to regain control of our fate, again, Cubs.
Fraggin Judge - September 9, 2008
Snap poll....
How many innings will the Brewers/Reds game last?
cowsarecool220 - September 9, 2008
18 innings
Reds win when Dusty comes out of retirement, is added to the 40 man roster and hits one of his patented doubles from his Dodger days to drive in Brandon Phillips.

Team has that fearful, tight look in their eyes......
trying not to lose but waiting for bad stuff to happen……we get a 3-0 lead and then stop hitting runners in……then that moronic Geo bunt attempt…..and an oops check swing does us in………the team expects to lose now……instead of expecting to win……if we do blow this it will be one for the record books!
razzpunk - September 9, 2008
You can see this?
What, do you have a magnifying glass on your TV?
Not Bruce Froemming - September 9, 2008

santoswoodenlegs - September 9, 2008
i don't know if you've been keepin' up with current events here
nervousCUBlover - September 9, 2008
Lets calm down
This is why you can win in a division in April and May.

BINGO
kcjones - September 9, 2008
I'll believe they're OK after I see them pitch well.
Fraggin Judge - September 9, 2008
It's not Lou Piniella losing these games...
Rather it is a ballclub whose ass is dragging. Again tonight nearly every player looked tired out there. I dont’ get it. Maybe they all need to get a couple extra hours sleep tonight.
MDBNIU - September 9, 2008
The team being burnt out doesn't bode well for the playoffs
nji232 - September 9, 2008
I don't understand why this team appears burned out...
Piniella utilizes his full complement of players as well as any manager in the game. The only pitchers who can make reasonable claim for being a bit gassed are Marmol, Dempster and Lilly. The only position player perhaps Edmonds given his assortment of nagging injuries. Why does everybody on this team look they pulled consecutive all-nighters?
MDBNIU - September 9, 2008
because the have?
santoswoodenlegs - September 9, 2008
Why are they tired?
They’ve had two days off in the last 8.
kcjones - September 9, 2008
Don't think...
…its physical tiredness, they are tight!!!!!!
MPH73 - September 9, 2008
This is where leadership in the dugout needs to take over...
Maybe the resident goofball Ryan Dempster needs to lighten the collective mode by pulling some pranks. Crawl up to Lou and give him a hot foot. Light a bag of dogshit on fire. Something.
MDBNIU - September 9, 2008
Yeah, that'll work...
Bump Bailey - September 9, 2008
Can't hurt...
…but even that stuff can’t stop the bus if the whole team is playing tighter than hell. You hope they pull out of it before this thing gets really interesting.
MPH73 - September 9, 2008
This stretch has been a joke
Now I get to deal with some idiot Cardinal fans in class tomorrow. We lose on a god damn joke check swing. Magic number is 11 for the playoffs. Thats the only good thing I can think of, and I think we need to start hoping for that.
nji232 - September 9, 2008
Another good

graceunderpressure - September 9, 2008

rrtycoon2 - September 9, 2008
hey, i've noticed that too....
graceunderpressure - September 9, 2008
It's the same every year.
D98 - September 9, 2008
You make me embarassed to be a Cub Fan...drop the self loathing bit...
it’s went out of style 100 years ago.
santoswoodenlegs - September 9, 2008
Do you have a specific issue with that post?
The Cubs are a good baseball team, but they’re definitely picking a bad time to play .150 ball for a few weeks. My post is a pretty measured response to a pretty serious situation.
Willful ignorance on our part will do absolutely nothing to change the team’s performance tomorrow. By that same token, neither will pulling our hair out. But must we pretend that all is well? It’s silly.
D98 - September 9, 2008
So our Cardinal fan roommate left tonight because he is always to scared to watch games with us
Odds are we see him here very soon. He is a great guy, but when it comes to baseball he tends to be a giant coward.

If the Cubs go 7-11 the rest of the way.
The Phillies MUST go 13-4 to knock us out while the Mets MUST go 11-7.
Then the Brewers at the same time MUST go 8-9 to knock us out at the same time.
And lets not forget the Brewers face the Phillies this weekend. Something has to give.
niuhuskie224 - September 9, 2008
Lots o' math there.....it hurts my head
razzpunk - September 9, 2008
7-11
is better then the current rate we are playing at.
Hence, why some of us worry.
Rudey - September 9, 2008
I hate to say this -
But that’s a lot scarier than I’d actually assumed.
That’s all that has to happen?! Nothing in that post seems particularly implausible. Like you say, something has to give eventually.
D98 - September 9, 2008
Linda Kohlmeyer looking mighty hot tonight!
Bump Bailey - September 9, 2008
Time to take down the magic number temporarily?
LT - September 9, 2008
no.
time for the Reds to lower it for the Cubs, since they can’t do it lately.
Shanghai Badger - September 9, 2008
Enough with the stupid superstitions
Leave it up.
Not Bruce Froemming - September 9, 2008
yes sir
glad you are here to impose your thoughts on us
LT - September 9, 2008
Pound sand
Or go break a mirror or walk under a ladder or something.
Superstitions are stupid.
Not Bruce Froemming - September 9, 2008
And of course your thoughts are the only ones that matter
For the record I am not that superstitious. I didn’t want Al to put the number up in the first place, not because it was bad luck. I just don’t think we should be counting chickens before they hatch.
LT - September 9, 2008
Who's counting chickens?
Any team in this situation would post a magic number without even thinking about it.
Call it anything you want, but it sounds superstitious to me (and to a lot of other people, I suspect).
My thoughts don’t matter, and neither do yours. But if you put yours out there and others don’t agree … well, too bad.
Not Bruce Froemming - September 9, 2008
I knew I should have voted for you in the
douche contest…
LT - September 9, 2008
can you imagine theriot trying to make that throw
DC Cubbie - September 9, 2008
If he gets to throw it.....run over to where it ended up and throw it again...yeah.
santoswoodenlegs - September 9, 2008
After his double clutch...
…I can see him throwing late, yes.
MPH73 - September 9, 2008
Keppenger GO...runner to 3rd with 2 outs.
santoswoodenlegs - September 9, 2008
The National League is Incompetencepolooza right now
But the good news is the Cubs are, to use a line from 16 Candles, sorta like the king of the dipshits.
MDBNIU - September 9, 2008
Being Idiots worked for the Red Sox....

The Cubs need to Cowboy Up.

what the hell are you bitchin about? I have to sleep under some china man named after a ducks dork
Ryno72 - September 9, 2008
If the Reds win this night is a wash
The only team gaining ground is the Cards who are 8 out. No problem
niuhuskie224 - September 9, 2008
No it's not....the magic # goes down by 1.
santoswoodenlegs - September 9, 2008
ayup
I’m not happy with the Cubs game, but if the Brewers lose every night from here on out, Cubs most likely win the division

Im keeping it as a mini screen as I am still trying to do Homework.
Rudey - September 9, 2008
So long as Ned Yost is manager of the Brewers there is hope the Reds win tonight

oh dear. that is funny.
Ryno72 - September 9, 2008
Wow, swearing women
Tonight on BCB….
Shanghai Badger - September 9, 2008
Tight
The late Gene Mauch once said:
“You can’t play baseball with a puckered up asshole.”
Well the Cubs are doing just that. You can see it from the looks on their faces in the dugout. You couldn’t drive a needle up their ass with a ball peen hammer.
tedinSoCal - September 9, 2008
Apparently Lou went off

Ryno72 - September 9, 2008
Lou needs to pick a fight in the lockerroom
Our best clone of Rob Dibble. Maybe Daryl Ward? Or do you give Lou a concession for age at this stage?
MDBNIU - September 9, 2008
Or maybe he'll find a magical sage
To cure us of this shitty stage
And then grab someone outta the cage
Outta “Bull Durham” he will take a page
And Lou will finally throw a fit, disengaging from all.

Shanghai Badger - September 9, 2008
Have you heard Lou's post game tonight? I haven't.
MDBNIU - September 9, 2008

That doesn’t mean they never do play him upset. They played over and over his reaction after the game against the Brewers May 1.
Shanghai Badger - September 9, 2008
they said they will
AndHart120 - September 9, 2008
Dave Kaplan curses.......hee hee!!!
razzpunk - September 9, 2008
Well, I just wrote my completely overworked Cub fan pal
I’ve been keeping him appraised of the Cubs’ performance as each “inning” (1/9 – 18 games) of the season goes by. This latest update wasn’t too optimistic, but it did end this way:
1/9: 12-6 (.666)
2/9: 21-15 (.583)
3/9: 33-21 (.611)
4/9: 45-27 (.625)
5/9: 54-36 (.600)
6/9: 64-44 (.593)
7/9: 77-49 (.611)
8/9: 86-58 (.597)
As you can see, the Cubs have had two previous stretches of playing .500 baseball for 18 games (2nd and 5th ninths). They pulled out of the first one in impressive fashion (12-6), but were a little slower coming out of the second stretch (10-8). The good news comes two ninths later: in 4, they went 12-6, and in 7, they went 13-5. If they stick with that trend, this last ninth of the regular season should be a winner for them, and then the next ninth should be killer.
We’ll see.
Clutch16 - September 9, 2008
Wow!!! Escobar caught on a double play ball to CPatt. He thought the liner
was going to go over CPatt’s head, and by the time CPatt jumped and came down with it, Escobar was almost at 3rd. Double play!
zevkalman - September 9, 2008
Jay Bruce
He is a pit paler than CPatt…
Shanghai Badger - September 9, 2008
Yeah, I was too excited to notice :-)
zevkalman - September 9, 2008
I for one think St. LOU_is gonna get his point across to the team tonight.
And he’ll make Theriot cry.
santoswoodenlegs - September 9, 2008
Or Cedeno
He almost cried on Sunday so…
Hilary Lee - September 9, 2008
I think Ronny cries every night
DC Cubbie - September 9, 2008
How much more yelling can Lou do
These players need to wake up and start performing.
MDBNIU - September 9, 2008
How much has he done so far? Tell us please.
santoswoodenlegs - September 9, 2008
I have no idea
All I know is that a manager yelling and breaking things only goes so far. Fans always want to think the magic elixir is for the manager to kick ass.
MDBNIU - September 9, 2008
I'm only askng because you're insinuating that he's already done it enough.
santoswoodenlegs - September 9, 2008
What exactly happens when The Riot cries?
Do kittens die?
dtpollitt - September 9, 2008
I disagree that that is the right approach.....
This team is tight……….I like MDBNIU’s merry prankster ideas….think those will produce better results.
kcjones - September 9, 2008
YES!!! Gagne in
DC Cubbie - September 9, 2008
I don't get angry easily
but I’ve always had a strong desire to cold-cock Eric Gagne right in the face.

His testicles will shrivel up from all those years of being on steroids.
MDBNIU - September 9, 2008

Report back here tomorrow.
dtpollitt - September 9, 2008
I will wear my long sleeved shirt tomorrow
And roll those puppies up.

Why stop with sleeves?
Roll your whole shirt up! And when someone makes fun of your beer belly, you kick their ass!

Derrek Lee is in rapid decline....
We’ve got to try and peddle him this offseason.

Pitching change for Reds
Shanghai Badger - September 9, 2008
If anyone subscribes to RotoWorld, I get their DailyDose in inbox each morning.
I thought today’s snipet about Pujols was fascinating. And then he did what he did tonight:
dtpollitt - September 9, 2008
once again........that elbow sure must be hurting from the looks of it? wtf?
graceunderpressure - September 9, 2008
Heh....Merriman must have consulted him last week....
santoswoodenlegs - September 9, 2008
Jeremy Affeldt coming in to pitch to the fattest vegetarian in the known universe.
santoswoodenlegs - September 9, 2008
Cue the duck
“Affeldt”
Shanghai Badger - September 9, 2008
I'd give my left nut to have that fat vegetarian in a Cub uniform...
MDBNIU - September 9, 2008
thought you gave that up for Harden
Shanghai Badger - September 9, 2008
True
Which therefore heightens the importance on me keeping the right one. I still would go ga-ga over Prince Fielder in a Cub uniform. I could get used to his left handed bat belting 50 HRs and 120 RBIs.
MDBNIU - September 9, 2008
And you call Soriano a "guess hack hitter"....wow.
santoswoodenlegs - September 9, 2008
There's no way in hell
I’d take that fat lardass over Lee. He’s fuckin lazy, he will be both injury-prone and diabetic-probable in a few years, and he’s almost a clubhouse nightmare. No way in hell.
dtpollitt - September 9, 2008
Derrek Lee plays like he is 52 and has hemorroids
Lee is declining faster than the S&P 500.
MDBNIU - September 9, 2008
In other words...
But if you wanna look at stats, give the whole picture, damnit.
dtpollitt - September 9, 2008
Has he actually made it through 140+ games STILL eating tofu?
I can’t believe that shit for a second.
dtpollitt - September 9, 2008
Well
lets hope i didnt call this one like i called the Cubs game :(
Rudey - September 9, 2008
Basehit for Fielder
Shanghai Badger - September 9, 2008
How can this team go so bad so fast?
Jesus, we’re seeing things we haven’t seen from this team all year
Mapmaker - September 9, 2008
It's like milk
you left out on the counter
Hilary Lee - September 9, 2008
yes, the balk was priceless.
graceunderpressure - September 9, 2008
They are not hitting.
Pitching is fine with exception of the Lilly and Z start. Nobody in the middle of the lineup is hitting. Not to be captain obvious but until the hit, this slide is going to continue.
TheRiot Police - September 9, 2008
You got it in a nutshell.
Another wasted quality start tonight……and lots of wasted sccorring opportunities.
kcjones - September 9, 2008
yep. way too many runs left out there
Shanghai Badger - September 9, 2008
It would be funny if it wasn't so effing infuriating
Mapmaker - September 9, 2008
In play no out...
But no run either…
Hilary Lee - September 9, 2008
Hart up
Shanghai Badger - September 9, 2008
pitching change
Shanghai Badger - September 9, 2008
please get Hart out...
I don’t want Affeldt to have to pitch with a….Hart on….base.
santoswoodenlegs - September 9, 2008
Please don't make an image of that. My imagination is bad enough.
zevkalman - September 9, 2008
If the home plate ump sees it ...he may call a balk....
santoswoodenlegs - September 9, 2008
Good. Pitching change. Dickerson in for the Reds. Hairston out of the game.
Go Dusty…
zevkalman - September 9, 2008

How was fielder’s hit only a single? It’s nearly at the wall…
Hilary Lee - September 9, 2008
He's a bit hefty
Shanghai Badger - September 9, 2008
The outfielders were playing very deep....
zevkalman - September 9, 2008
hey while there is a pitching change.......
you know how we can’t move d lee in the lineup because it is too late in the season, etc etc. Where was Troy Glaus hitting tonight in the order?
graceunderpressure - September 9, 2008
Cause Glaus is newbie and not a leader on the team...
TheRiot Police - September 9, 2008
it must be getting late, because that excuse makes complete sense
graceunderpressure - September 9, 2008
Jon Adkins pitching for the Reds....

“TRYING ISN’T GOOD ENOUGH”.

“And I know we’re trying, got no complaints with the effort, but you GOTTA GET THE JOB DONE.”
“GOTTA GET YOUR DAMN SHIRTS ROLLED UP, AND KICK SOMEBODY’S ASS. THAT’S WHAT YOU GOTTA DO. PERIOD. PERIOD.”
