As published in the early Sunday editions of the Tribune, in the sports section (don't bother checking online for it; it's not in a story, it's in an ad):
that the most interesting but least informative session of the convention will be Meet Cubs Business Management. Unless, that is, the deal is done by the Convention.
Lee not there this year. Aramis never comes. I heard he’s afraid to fly so only flies when absolutely necessary. He’s supposedly also quite shy off the field.
I will just stay in New York. Actually I would have been completely shocked if he came, maybe 5 years from now but
he does not like cold weather.
Glad to see Buckner coming, sorry that Lee is not apparently on the list. Sue can have Geo and Shark, I will take Theodore Roosevelt Lilly.
What’s the best way to get tickets. Obviously, it is sold out already for 2009. For 2010, is there a better way than hoping to get your tickets online before they sell out after 24 minutes? If you book the hotel early, is there a better chance to get tix?
We get our reservations in March for the next year. Just call the hotel right in Chicago. Ask them and they will book it for you. It is about 198 per night and you need to book both nights. In years past the tickets were 10 bucks, but this year they are 15. You can get up to 4 with your room and sometimes 6 if you are nice.
Usually I get a heads up when it’s almost sold room wise out and post a note but since I’m missing it this year to go to a Bar Mitzvah in PA I didn’t ask my friend who works there.
She did tell me she would let me know if they opened rooms but it didn’t happen except once.
There’s Always Next year for the convention ……Tell the folks in PA your busy for that weekend ….But it seems when ever you call the Hilton they are booked well in advance for that weekend ………
I doubt many will ever go on sale to the public. Full season ticket holders got them free. Partial Season ticket holders are supposed to
get an option to buy them, a friend of mine who has a partial plan has yet to be offered them. Add in other committmments and I would
guess 5,000 or more per game but at the silly prices , they will be gone in minutes.
I am going but only because I live here and a friend who has full season tickets offered to take me.
I made a deal winter classic tickets for a friend for going to the exhibition games. Got friends in NY husband is a Yankees fan wife a Detroit native Red Wings fan and got them tickets for the winter classic and they are taking me to the exhibition games.
But then again I’m in NY and get to see Cubs come to town only in September this year. While it seems like a lot of money to everyone in Chicago for an exhibition game to me this is one of only a few opportunities I’ll get to see The Cubs play in person.
For those who won’t be there, WGN Radio in past years have archived some of their more popular sessions with audio. You would think by 2009 they’d air video with it too but most likely it will be audio again. They’re worth listening to since we rarely get to hear the Cubs speak when they’re not just finishing or about to start a game.
No Pie Auction? Or Cake Walk?
santoswoodenlegs - January 10, 2009
Is that a Felix Pie auction?
Al Yellon - January 10, 2009
Players List
Was there a list of players this year?
john62 - January 10, 2009
Nope.
I imagine that will be on the Cubs website soon.
Al Yellon - January 10, 2009
Thanks
Thanks Al.
john62 - January 10, 2009
They used to have the players listed on the top and then the schedule on the bottom. Interesting.
puckishcubsfan - January 10, 2009
One of these years, I'm gonna make the trek out to Chicago for this..
Chanman25 - January 10, 2009
It's fun
and busy. Not flying out this year but if anyone out of state does come in for this I can say from past experiences, you’ll feel right at home.
ak123 - January 10, 2009
eh, well I'm a lil young to make the trek out by myself
but probably sometime in the next couple years. Do players such as Ernie Banks and Billy Williams always come?
Chanman25 - January 10, 2009
Generally, yes.
Al Yellon - January 10, 2009
I would posit
that the most interesting but least informative session of the convention will be Meet Cubs Business Management. Unless, that is, the deal is done by the Convention.
alwaysacub - January 10, 2009
It doesn't mean you'll meet new ownership.
Even if the deal is done, the present management team will be in place for a while.
Al Yellon - January 10, 2009
Also
ALso at wgnradio.com they have some details on whos who for their related events.
Steve Cochrane is doing his show Friday live from the convention. As opposed to dead?
puckishcubsfan - January 10, 2009
Not sure
how accurate this website has been in the past, but I just ran across it.

Lists 2009 attendees…
giddyup - January 10, 2009
Thanks.
That looks pretty accurate. It also includes management (Fleita, Bush, Kenney, Hendry, Piniella, Wilken) and broadcasters (Otto, Santo).
Al Yellon - January 10, 2009
As well as Len Kasper & Bob Brenly.
Al Yellon - January 10, 2009
Darwin Barney
Not sure who that is.
Lee not there this year. Aramis never comes. I heard he’s afraid to fly so only flies when absolutely necessary. He’s supposedly also quite shy off the field.
puckishcubsfan - January 10, 2009
I believe Barney is SS prospect
Doggie Stalker - January 10, 2009
Thanks
Thanks I knew the name vaguely. Figured he was a prospect or maybe some new front office person.
Bundle up for your trip here next weekend. It’s going to be so cold the flashers are only showing pictures of themselves :).
Maybe next year we’ll do lunch during the convention.
puckishcubsfan - January 10, 2009
Yes
From Oregon State. Col. WS Champs
100yearitch - January 12, 2009
My two favorites
(Geo & Shark) will be there. Maybe someone will get some nice pictures for those of us who can’t be there.
sue369 - January 10, 2009
No Maddux ( sniff)
I will just stay in New York. Actually I would have been completely shocked if he came, maybe 5 years from now but
he does not like cold weather.
Glad to see Buckner coming, sorry that Lee is not apparently on the list. Sue can have Geo and Shark, I will take Theodore Roosevelt Lilly.
Doggie Stalker - January 10, 2009
Interesting -- meet Cubs management usually runs one hour, not 90 minutes
Either that was a misprint, or they’re anticipating a lot of angst over Wood and DeRosa.
Shanghai Badger - January 10, 2009
I may have mistyped it.
I’ll doublecheck.
Al Yellon - January 10, 2009
yes, given the Wood and DeRosa angst, I think it was supposed to be...
Beat Cubs Management, though I’m not sure even 90 minutes would be enough. ;-)
ballhawk - January 10, 2009
Add in the Daryl Ward angst
and it could easily go two hours.
Doggie Stalker - January 10, 2009
To those attending:
Can I send you a bunch of questions so you can ask during the Q&A? I’d love you forever.
chilango2 - January 10, 2009
I'll probably make a post later in the week for this purpose.
Al Yellon - January 10, 2009
I'll love you forever
whether or not you choose one of my 34,612 questions. <3
chilango2 - January 10, 2009
and then you'll be praying for the end of time?
ballhawk - January 10, 2009
Lemme sleep on it.
znohitter - January 10, 2009
I couldn't take it any longer!
Al Yellon - January 11, 2009
4:07 AM??? Boy, when you say you'll give me an answer in the morning, you really mean it! ;-)
ballhawk - January 11, 2009
Convention 2010

Ghost of Fred Merkle - January 10, 2009
If you book the hotel early, you get passes with your room.
I don’t know how early they take reservations, but you can probably ask after the dates are announced.
Al Yellon - January 10, 2009
Sometimes
Sometimes you can prebook at the current convention for next years. I did I think in 96.
puckishcubsfan - January 10, 2009
Prebook
Can you book any room there online, or do you have to call them and specify that you are there for the convention? (Thanks in advance.)
Ghost of Fred Merkle - January 10, 2009
Just call
We get our reservations in March for the next year. Just call the hotel right in Chicago. Ask them and they will book it for you. It is about 198 per night and you need to book both nights. akbeck98 - January 10, 2009
Thanks, Al.
I thought I remember somebody saying they booked the room way back in the summer.
Ghost of Fred Merkle - January 10, 2009
Book
I usually book the week of my birthday in July.
puckishcubsfan - January 10, 2009
I still feel bad
Usually I get a heads up when it’s almost sold room wise out and post a note but since I’m missing it this year to go to a Bar Mitzvah in PA I didn’t ask my friend who works there.

First one I missed
First one I will miss. I even went 9 years ago when I was 2 weeks from having my oldest.
puckishcubsfan - January 10, 2009
Any idea on when the Yankees/Cubs tickets will go on sale?
…or what you have to do to get them other than get lucky?
Bricks and Ivy - January 10, 2009
I'd keep checking the Yankees website.
They’ll be handling the ticket sales for those games.
Al Yellon - January 10, 2009
Yeah I just checked the web site and I didn't see anything.
I don’t plan on getting lucky enough to get them. I think I used all my luck getting game 1 tickets last year.
Bricks and Ivy - January 10, 2009
No date set but don't get your hopes hope
I doubt many will ever go on sale to the public. Full season ticket holders got them free. Partial Season ticket holders are supposed to

puckishcubsfan - January 10, 2009
Which means you paid at least $75 each for tickets to an exhibition game.
Al Yellon - January 11, 2009
I want to go to a game
I want to go to those games so I made a trade. What one does for love of our Cubs!
Actually they paid for the winter classic tickets they used. I just got a hold of them.
puckishcubsfan - January 11, 2009
I'm willing to pay $80
But then again I’m in NY and get to see Cubs come to town only in September this year. While it seems like a lot of money to everyone in Chicago for an exhibition game to me this is one of only a few opportunities I’ll get to see The Cubs play in person.

Another Cubs Convention Reminder

ak123 - January 11, 2009
Video
I always thought they could make money for charity by selling videos of the convention.
Usually people also have video cameras and put stuff on youtube the week after as well.
