Nine spring games will be televised by either WGN or CSN; 11 others will be on WGN radio, and some on both radio & TV. 17 of the 39 spring games will be on at least one Cubs broadcast outlet; there will be others, most likely, on visiting teams' broadcast outlets, on ESPN, and new this year, possibly on the MLB Network.
That ought to help warm you up on a snowy day in Chicago. The first broadcast is only 46 days away!
UPDATE: The White Sox broadcast schedule for spring training also came out today. Two White Sox/Cubs games: Saturday, Feb. 28 and Saturday, March 21, will be on CSN with the Sox announcers. If you are a Steve Stone fan, this will be your chance to hear him on a game involving the Cubs (if you can stomach listening to Hawk).

wow thats a late start on March 4 for those of us in the eastern time zone.
ballstitch - January 9, 2009
Well...
… Vegas is on Pacific time.
Al Yellon - January 9, 2009
and I really hate easter time
never get to see a whole MNF game, for example.
ballstitch - January 9, 2009
Yeah, 10pm ET is pretty standard for west coast starts
SouthernCub - January 9, 2009
How will the Blackhawks affect the radio schedule?
Will they be moved to a different station when the regular season begins if they conflict with the Cubs?
cowsarecool220 - January 9, 2009
Probably, though nothing's been decided yet.
Al Yellon - January 9, 2009
I wonder why the Friday night
exhibition game against the Yankees game is not on the schedule?
I would think it would be certain to be televised.
cowsarecool220 - January 9, 2009
There may be conflicts with other sports on the CSN schedule...
… I don’t know about WGN.
Al Yellon - January 9, 2009
ESPN?
I’d guess that they intend to have the first ever game at the House that Jeter Built on their network.
dmlichte - January 9, 2009
Ah, yes.
Probably so. Thanks. I hadn’t thought of that, but you’re probably right.
Al Yellon - January 9, 2009
That makes sense.
cowsarecool220 - January 9, 2009
MLBN too.
neverAcquiesce - January 10, 2009
no first weekend games?
This surprises me. It seemed that after an absence of baseball for several months, that first weekend televised or aired game was a big one.
dmlichte - January 9, 2009
One of the things I like most about mlb.tv
is you can watch any broadcast. So if the Cubs aren’t broadcasting the game, you can still watch/listen if they other team is broadcasting. It’s a bummer when neither team broadcast games.
I think it’s the Giants that broadcast (audio) a bunch of ST games solely on the internet. I wish the Cubs would consider that.
cowsarecool220 - January 9, 2009
I was really surprised to see so few TV games.
I figured they’d do more after the White Sox ramped up their TV spring schedule a couple years ago.
The Cubs’ game vs. whatever WBC team they wind up playing on 3/12 will probably wind up on the MLB Network, I’d guess.
Al Yellon - January 9, 2009
Yea, if I can watch summer league Bulls basketball games on my computer,
I sure as hell should be able to watch Cubs spring training games.
Juiceboxjerry - January 9, 2009
A little ironic that the first game is against the Dodgers...
…don’tcha think? Or don’tcha?
daver - January 9, 2009
In their first season in Arizona, no less.
Al Yellon - January 9, 2009
Also
The WGN related Cubs Convention events are listed at wgnradio.com
puckishcubsfan - January 9, 2009
Anyone else
Is there anyone else here excited to see a lot more games than in the past on TV? Remember when it was maybe 3 games each season?
puckishcubsfan - January 9, 2009
Ican't wait to hear Stone talk about the Cubs upcoming payroll armageddon for nine whole innings!
Juiceboxjerry - January 9, 2009
Stone
I think the Score needs a new baseball analyst because of Stone’s long time bias against Hendry now exaserbated (sp) with his connection to the Sox.
puckishcubsfan - January 9, 2009
Or to hear again "For you youngsters out there.."
or the classic “Look for a slider low and away”
cubswin - January 9, 2009
Genuine laugh out loud just now.
That brought back so many memories.
neverAcquiesce - January 10, 2009
So just 47 days
til we hear those beautiful words, “Chicago Cubs baseball is on the air!” To be honest, I always tune in just for that but don’t often care to listen to the rest of the broadcast.
JJDiesel21 - January 9, 2009
Any word on Santo's health?
He’s still doing the games right?
Bricks and Ivy - January 9, 2009
As far as I know, yes.
I imagine he’ll skip some road trips as he has done the last couple of years.
Al Yellon - January 10, 2009
That's his normal M.O. these days.
I’m assuming he’ll make the trip out to New York when we play the Mets this year, since Shea is gone. Speaking of which, does Citi get to keep the naming rights to that field, since their essentially paying for it with taxpayer money?
aramis - January 10, 2009
Apparently...
It was mentioned a few times in WSJ. Much of it had to do with the fact the deal was consumated many months before the bailout (like that should actually matter) and who knows what Citi is doing.
Really though, no one in Washington has a fucking clue where hundreds of billion dollars are going, who’s gonna fret over a lousy 400 million over 20 years?
