Same Time, Next Year: World Series Game 3 Preview, Phillies vs. Yankees, Saturday 10/31, 6:57 CT

The World Series moves to Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia tonight.

The World Series moves to Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia tonight.

With the new hope engendered to Cubs fans after the Ricketts family was introduced as new owners yesterday, perhaps we can be forgiven if we dream -- just a bit -- about the potential for the Cubs to be in the World Series a year from now.

Meanwhile, there's a chance of rain in the Philadelphia area this evening -- as if there haven't been enough weather problems with the postseason already this year. The Good Phight wonders if this will change the Philly rotation.

And in addition to the World Series going on at Citizens Bank Park, Pearl Jam is appearing at the nearby Spectrum (in the final event at that arena which hosted the Flyers and 76ers for decades), with their show scheduled to begin at the same time as the game. Not only that, there's still a chance that Philadelphia transit workers will go on strike tonight at 6 pm.

Meanwhile, here's an article looking at the Cubs' ownership change from a business standpoint that gives us a first idea on how much Wrigley Field renovation and debt service might cost:

Thomas Ricketts spent $845 million for, among other assets, a baseball team that in a good year will record a profit of around $30 million.

The new owner of the Chicago Cubs will have to repay loans of $425 million he obtained for the purchase. That's an expense the Cubs' seller, Tribune Co., never had.

He'll have to look at costs of Wrigley Field renovation to facilities that sorely need improvement -- and to create revenue. Ricketts said he's looking at work spread over five to seven years and costing "significantly less" than $200 million.

Jeff Passan at Yahoo keeps the pressure on, calling again for replay review to be instituted. Couldn't agree more, after two more bad calls on Thursday night.

Star-divide

Finally, don't forget to turn your clocks back one hour before you go to sleep tonight. Daylight Saving Time ends at 2 am in your local time zone (if you are in the USA or Canada, except for Arizona, Hawaii, Saskatchewan and a handful of other areas).

Yankees at Phillies, 6:57 pm CDT. Series tied 1-1. TV: Fox. Announcers: Joe Buck and Tim McCarver.

We Europeans switched from daylight saving a week ago,

which means US sports starts an hour earlier for us this last week.

NU is beating up on Penn State and if the Phillies take game 3, then it will be a nice evening

If only the Cubs…

Well, I never heard it before, but it sounds uncommon nonsense.

I really want the Phillies to win but there is one bright side if they lose this game.

Chad Gaudin will start game 4. That would be fun to watch but I would much rather see the Phillies beat the Yankees now.

Gaudin's not starting game 4.

Sabathia is. Gaudin might start game 5.

Um the game has started.

I just got soaked watching the Village Halloween Parade. Now time for real baseball.

Works for me.

Back from the game.

Cole Hamels just said some of the dumbest stuff in a post-game press conference.

"I can’t wait for it to end. It’s been mentally draining. It’s one of those things where you can’t wait for a fresh start."

"A-Rod is awesome"

"I did my job tonight"

To say this is not going over well on the sports talk stations is an understatement.

He needs to take lessons from Cliff Lee.

Must we have a controversy every [bleeping] playoff game????

Now a camera reaches out and hits a home run ball. Hey, Selig, what in the world was that camera doing there, anyway? Isn’t there another area in Citizens Bank Park that the camera could go, possibly on an upper deck?

I’ll take a plain, old-fashioned, baseball game without any blown calls or issues at all. Sadly, it seems to be impossible for such a game to occur.

You must live in a fantasy world

where the streets are paved with gold and the sewers filled with chocolate. ‘Cause that’s the only world where baseball actually gets replay.

What I can't figure

Is what the camera was doing hanging over the field of play. That should not have been a home run anyway. I just wish MLB would anticipate things like this before they happened.

I guess, however, that’s too convenient for Bad Selig.

Is he commissioner for life?

Because at this point….

I sure hope not.

MLB would revert to an 1800s model for solving problems, and not live in the 21st Century.

I went to the LSU-Tulane game last night

It would be the last time the old in-state rivals would meet at Tiger Stadium and this rivalry used to mean something thirty years ago. Now it’s just a gimme game for LSU and both schools mutually decided to not play each other anymore. It was a blowout in LSU’s favor and when I first heard from another student in the student section that the Phillies were leading the Yankees 3-0, I was happy.

Then I find out that the Yankees took the lead and I see people here talking about controversial calls. The writing is on the wall here. MLB is rigged. Bud Selig has made sure that the AL has home field advantage every year. The Yankees have reaped the benefits of so many calls in this postseason that only a Yankees fan would say that these calls have not helped them. The evil empire will add another page to its story because I’m counting the Phillies out of this one.

How has Bud been able to rig the All-Star game result?

And, the umpires got that call right last night.
