Bleed Cubbie Blue

What Does MLB Do To Top Yesterday? Division Series Day 1 Preview

If the postseason is half as exciting as yesterday's dramatic 12-inning Twins win over the Tigers in game 163 for both of them, we are in for quite an October.

Doesn't always work out that way, of course, but we can dream, can't we? Three of the four series begin today; the Red Sox and Angels will start their series tomorrow. It will be the fourth time in the last six seasons that those two will meet in the playoffs' first round; the Red Sox have won the three previous encounters, sweeping two of them and giving the Angels a single consolation game last year. The Angels posted a better regular season record than the Red Sox, but as we Cubs fans know, you can throw those records out the window once the postseason begins.

Meanwhile, the Twins would appear to be huge underdogs against the Yankees, who won 16 more regular season games than they did and who swept the Twins in their season series (7-0). But CC Sabathia has been bad in his last four postseason starts, posting a 9.47 ERA for Cleveland and Milwaukee the last two years, and if the Twins can steal one game in Yankee Stadium, they will return to a huge home-field advantage in the Metrodome. Don't count the Twins out.

In the National League, the two series seem more evenly matched; the four teams had 95 (Dodgers), 93 (Phillies), 92 (Rockies) and 91 (Cardinals) victories in the regular season. The Dodgers and Cardinals both had outstanding pitching this year; will all those games be decided by 1-0 scores? And any time you play games at Coors Field, anything can happen. By the time that series gets to Denver this weekend, it might be snowing there.

After the jump you'll find all the info you need to follow today's three games.

It appears the games are blacked out to mlb.tv subscribers.

That is such BS – it’d be nice if those of us strapped to our computers could enjoy the video, too. Anyway, I’ll be tuning in to the audio of the Phillies-Rockies game this afternoon.

Sigh.

Bud strikes again. What a maroon.

My coworker with mlb.tv tells me

if you have the Premium tier, they’re available. I got to watch a very weird broadcast last night using his account.

I'm an MLB.TV Premium subscriber

And I can’t get video.

Stupid, stupid MLB

I'm just noticing that too.

Audio only. Wow. Unbelievable. If this were my moneys, I’d be hella pissed.

MLB.TV Premium - currently showing "Commercial Break in Progress" in Europe
My coworker just coughed up another $10 to get the postseason.tv scam.

MLB.TV Premium subscribers don’t qualify for video. Audio only.

I'm a MLB.TV Premium subscriber and I do have video!

Listened to the pre-game show on WPHT and switched to video at game time using the control in Adobe Flash player. Maybe being in Europe has something to do with it – no blackouts here.

And now they just started streaming from the stadium
Yeah, I take back what I said.

I’m an premium subscriber and I do seem to have video access via the postseason.tv link ballhawk mentions below.

What link is this?

I have premium and only have audio?

I don't have cable so I poked around mlb.com this morning

apparently there is something called postseason.tv which mlb is touting as “companion coverage” to TBS. 8 different camera angles, you pick which one you want, blah, blah, blah. According to chilango2 in last night’s game thread, it wasn’t working too well.

And even if it were, I don’t want camera angles – I want the tv feed. And would be willing to pay for it. Didn’t MLB have a special mlb.tv package just for the playoffs last year?

Just when you think Bud can’t get any marooner, he surprises us all…

It's a piece of junk,

but then again, if you use it as a “companion,” I guess it’s not bad at all. But this’ll be my only source for the postseason while I’m at the office. Guess it’s better than nothing. Now, if only we could get Chip to say “fisted” for every pitch…

We need Lovitz back

For more flouls.

It is annoying and you miss a bunch of plays

Using this yesterday gives me an appreciation for the editing job the professionals do. The only way I could get it be of any use was to choose the mosaic view and have 4 different angles at once.

Go Phillies!!! Go Phillies!!! Go Phillies!!!

1) I was born in Philadelphia and moved to Chicago when I was 8 months old. LWDYWMTD

2) I have developed a real dislike for the Rockies during the WC race.

3) Apparently no black outs in Europe.

I hope this does mean there is a lynch mob looking for me.

Is this the head of the lynch mob?

A one man mob - I like it
According to B-R

11 Lynchs have played ball at the major-league level: Adrian, Danny, Ed, Henry, Jack, Jerry, 2 Mikes, 2 Toms, and Walt

It’s a small mob, but enough guys to field a team with a couple of subs.

Ed looks kind of angry in that photo, too.

Kind of the way the head of a mob should look.

I'm running already...
Expect a lot of runs in the Phils-Rockies game today

Wind is blowing from left field to right field at 35-40 mph.

Wow.

And just wait till they get to Denver this weekend and it snows.

Poor Bob

He has to play off Dick Stockton.

Seriously,

isn’t there some young talent out there in the broadcasting industry? The only thing worse than Dick Stockton doing play-by-play for football, is Dick Stockton doing play-by-play for baseball.

Even though the Cubs aren’t in it, I love playoff baseball. Watching the end of last nights game, so much excitement and intensity in a lot of those games. They just feel different watching them even on TV, maybe it is the Fall air.

Last night's game was great

EXCEPT for having to listen to Ron Darling. I nearly muted it, but then I wouldn’t have been able to think about the 1998 Cubs (first Cubs playoff team I watched) while listening to Chip Caray. I would put Darling in the Joe Morgan pantheon of bad baseball announcers.

I was ticked

It was still a regular-season game, technically. I wanted to listen to Dick and Bert, but noooo…

But it's going to be 70 in Denver today....

….Saturday could be miserable. I’m betting they will postpone the game. But why the hate for the Rox? I’m not saying they’ll sweep the Phillies like they did in 2007, especially with Philadelphia tossing three left-handers at them. But they have a much more balanced team this year than they did two years ago. (But being a life-long Cubs’ fan, I should also realize that once you assume something, well……)

Still, Go Rox!

I'm rooting for the Rockies in the NL

Twins-Rockies in the World Series.

Somewhere

Bud Selig shudders at the thought of those ratings. (Though that’s the Series I would like to see, too, for some reason)

Exactly.

I was thinking that when I wrote my comment.

All I hope for is that the Twins make it. If they get knocked out, my interest will wane greatly.

In terms of my interest, I'd rank the AL teams I'd like to see in the World Series as such:

1. Twins
2. Red Sox (I went to school out there, I can’t help it)
3. Angels
4. Yankees

Frankly, Colorado seems like the least of 4 evils in the NL.

Rockies-Angels.

But really, as long as neither the Dodgers (ugh), Phillies (ughugh), or Cardinals (ughughugh) win the NL pennant, I’ll be fine with whatever happens.

Is anybody having some serious issues with the site today?

503 errors galore. It keeps marking old-and-read comments as unread.

Yes, this is a SBN-wide issue.

They are aware of the 503 errors and are working on them.

The unread comment issue is something they did deliberately to improve performance and try to avoid more 503 errors. When the performance issues are fixed they’ll restore the functionality.

Thanks for your patience.

And really soon I hope.

The unreading is drivin’ me nuts, like being in time warp it is…

It's just a jump to the left...

And then a step to the right…

♬♬♫♪♫♩♫ But it's the pelvic thrust ♪♩♩♫♬♬

♬♬♫♪♫♩♫ That really drives you insane ♪♩♩♫♬♬
♬♬♫♪♫♩♫ Let’s do the time warp again! ♪♩♩♫♬♬
♬♬♫♪♫♩♫ Let’s do the time warp again! ♪♩♩♫♬♬

The subtext is "Server Unavailable"

NEED MOAR CYCLES!

OK, this is blasphemous, but...

….I have to admit that it would be fun to see Mauer and Pujols face off in a WS.

And my sense, based on Al’s theory of “the playoffs go to the team that’s hot at the right moment.” is that the Twins might just be a spoiler for da Jenkees.

And I have to agree about the MLB.TV business…..I mean, why on earth can’t they just show the TV feeds with commercials and all? I can’t see how anyone loses….oh, well.

I cheer for everyone to lose.

That’s right, I’m a horrible sport. I’m extremely bitter and hate watching any team (not the Cubs) win the WS.

BTW the iPhone’s At Bat app was awesome to have last night. They were doing live streaming from the game with 8 different game angles for FREE!

I guess I'm rooting for the rockies here.
Boo, hiss...

May the best team win!

Ya know, the way the phils fans cheered at the first out...

I wish I woulda heard the same thing when the Cubs played last year. I just am still amazed at how dead it was.

A lot of the season-ticket holders sold their first-round tickets to afford NLCS tix

Or so I hear – lots of corporate schmucks and no real fans, apparently.

I want so bad to go to even a Cubs regular season game.

I would freaking love to be at a playoff game. No way I would be quiet after Dero hit that shot that barely made it out to right.

hey hey hey!

Me and my lovely bride were there, fresh off of our wedding day earlier that week. NLDS Game 2 tix were one of our wedding gifts.

Thankfully, we’re still together… ;-)

Shoulda yelled louder :P
They would have sold them for sheer greed

Post season tickets are really not that expensive so you would not need to sell one round to afford another.
Now of course if you have an EXTRA ticket and need the money that is another matter. I actually sold one pair to
a Cub fan at a fat profit but I had gotten a pair of bleachers that night.

Ryan Howard is a gold glover.
Badly misplayed that DP chance
The Phils get out the inning unharmed.
Still a 1-0 count on MLB-TV...
Check out Victorino battling the wind

It’s kinda funny.

50 to 80 seconds delay I would guesstimate
On a related note

I still hate Shane Victorino. Cub-killer and Brave-killer.

Do you hate him enough to pour a drink on him?
Only if it was Coors Light

Put that stuff back in the horse, I say.

I did have a Chicago moment watching the game yesterday, though – the bar I was at (O’Learys in West Fargo) had a bunch of Goose Island Honker’s Ale that didn’t sell, so they reduced the price to a dollar per bottle. Cheap and tasty!

If only Honker's Ale could ever be that cheap around here :-(
+1

And that kid who famously dumped the beer on him also agrees.

Go Phillies !!! Blow the Rox away !!!
What happened to let the best team win?
But the Phillies are the (second) best team, aren't they?

See my posting at the top of the thread too…

The "second best" team is one that does not interfere with your "best" team whatsoever,

so it ought to be an AL team. Mine are the Twins and have been since I was 11.

So then I would have to pick the "SpVgg Unterhaching" because they play
  • in Germany
  • Soccer and not baseball
  • In the “minors” and not in the “majors”
  • Are not going anywhere this season
I'm all for Borussia Mönchengladbach

Just ‘cuz it’s fun to say.

"Türkiyemspor Berlin" and "Wormatia Worms" are fun to say too
More ineptness from mlb.com

Just for kicks, I clicked on the mlb.tv premium link even though I’m not a subscriber like Mr. Big Bucks Daver…

Of course, it didn’t like me and asked me to click on link so I could enter a zip code to check my blackoutnessness. And then I end up here where they do indeed have a playoff tv package… …if you’re willing to wait until 90 minutes after the game is over. WTF???

Here are the “features” of that package:
    * International customers watch ALL games LIVE
    * U.S. customers listen to ALL games LIVE
-choice of home and away feeds
    * Real-time highlights
    * Watch full game archives
(approximately 90 minutes after each game)

I’ll stick to GameDay audio ($15 for the whole season and playoffs) and get more things done. Like kibitzing here on BCB…

Yeah man.

This is the bullshit of all bullshits.

Yep, that's me: International customers

The MLB black outs strike me as rather strange. And MLB-AM is fairly incompetent, making things even worse.

Save your money.

I’ve given up on the postseason.tv link I mentioned above. The multiple camera angles are…interesting. It’s basically like being AT the game – i.e., there’s not a lot of zooming or panning going on. Worst of all, it kept crapping out on me. The screen would go blank and I’d get a “video error” message. I could get it working again but got sick of the aggravation. So I’ve reverted to Gameday audio, too.

Open the WPHT audio stream in the ADOBE Flash player, and then switch to video using the control in the player!!!

This gives me a standard TV broadcast without any of the “let’s play director” stuff.

I don't see an option to switch to video.

Where are you seeing that?

When I click on the box where it says WPHT, then a "menu" pops up and I can choose TBS-HD

The box is below the VS., which is below the GAMEDAY AUDIO logo.

I am a MLB-TV Premium subscriber, and here in Germany we do not have any blackout restrictions.

Ah, I see what you mean.

I don’t get that option, being in Chicago. Thanks for trying, though!

The wind is howling in Philadelphia,

and I read there are 45+ MPH gusts in New York. These are going to be fun games.

im predicting

NYY over MIN
LAA over BOS

STL over LAD
COL over PHI

NYY over LAA

STL over COL

NYY over STL in a World Series where all of us lose.

If that happens

I won’t give a rat’s ass who wins the WS.
Go Bosox,Twinkies & Phillies

neither will I future Mrs. Greg Maddux

neither will I

Kathy Maddux might object to that.

One day I would love to meet Maddux and play him in a game of JEOPARDY ( the only thing I might have a shot at beating him at but I doubt it) but I admire his ( and his wife’s) ability to balance their family over a 25 year pro career almost as much as a admire his playing. Snippets I get off his retirement indicated he is a very content " Mr. Mom" who gets in a few rounds of golf in between dropping off his kids and picking them up.

I was just joking about the Mrs. Maddux thing

while the current name and sig make it pretty obvious you’ve been pretty open about your love for mad dog since day 1 on this site.

He seems like he’d be a really cool guy to hang out with and I’m not surprised at all to hear that he has transitioned smoothly into retirement.

heres my playoff predictions:

nl

phils over rox
cards over dodgers

cards over phils

al

yanks over twins
angels over sox

angels over yanks

cards over angels

Wow that wasn't even close.
So who should I listen to?

Phillies radio team – Scott Franzke (pbp), Larry Anderson (color)
- or -
Rockies radio team – Jack Corrigan (pbp?) and Jeff Kingery (color?)

I got the Phillies on now because they’re the home team and Larry Anderson was a real funny guy during his playing days – not sure if that carried over to his broadcasting career.

I'm goin' with the home Phillies broadcast.
yeah - same here.

Though it does seem strange listening to a game without hearing “Geez!” or “boy oh boy…” all the time.

Wonder if I’ll get to hear a scratchy high-pitched “STRIKE THREEEE!!!!!” in the 5th inning…

Judd could do a scoreboard update from his home...

…and we’d still hear it.

I just realized why I hate the Rockies so much.

Those uniforms are horrendous.

Welcome to the club...

May the good looking uniforms win!!!

The Phils haven't updated their unis since the 50s

Or so it would appear. Wikipedia tells me the last time they redesigned their uniforms was 1992

Which was a redesign back to an OLD design.
They always strike me as a fictitious team.
They should be playing hockey, still

Plus, why are they named after a state?

I can understand the Twins or Rangers naming themselves after a state, since those teams represent two major cities. But it’s not like people elsewhere in Colorado wouldn’t have gone to Rockies games if they had called themselves the “Denver Rockies” or some other name with “Denver”.

Not to mention

“Texas Rangers” sounds a heckuva lot more bad-ass than “Dallas Rangers”.

As for your original question, my best guess is that they were paying homage to the hockey team with the name. Why the hockey team chose that name is a question I can’t answer.

So they are...

… named after a hockey team that used to be the Kansas City Scouts. That’s really something to be proud of.

Yes, there really was a KC Scouts team in the NHL. Logo:

Well they also represent the fine hovels of Silt, Rifle, Parachute and the truck stop on E.Co.Road 330E.
Once again, Texas > Colorado when it comes to hick town names

Gun Barrel City beats Silt hands down.

Meanwhile, Minnesota has an identity crisis.

Within driving distance of Minneapolis/St. Paul are St. Louis Park, Detroit Lakes and Young America.

One small town in Germany is called Amerika and not so far from Munich there is a place called Fuck.
I thought that town was in the process

Not forget Fucking, Austria

are their clothes strewn about, near the bike?
Places with names like this, whose names have a completly different meaning in German,

have huge problems with British, American, Australian, etc. tourists stealing their signs.

And then there's this American town.

The Brits are good at this too

Dudes! I step away for an hour

and you post fun pics. I want in next time.

Here's another one.

There's plenty where this came from, now to think about what this has to do with the Cubs.

I'm sure crapstone has something to do with the season.
And left us wanting to

Golden Balls Roundabout???

That one's in Michigan!
Climax, that is...
Yep.

I’ve driven by that on I-94 many times.

What do you think Minnesota is, anyway? Texas?

Everything in MN is within driving distance of the Twin Cities. Some places are just a longer drive than others.

Oh, and you left out Virginia, Rochester, Houston, New York Mills, and more.

Rec'd.

How very well played, sir.

You must really get perplexed with the Utah Jazz then... ;-)
Almost as much as the New Orleans Hornets
When awarded the franchise, they debated this publicly, in the

paper and, as I recall, went with the state to be more inclusive of the region. Hell, the Marlins made the same choice at the time.

The oddest choice was to have the caps show “CR” at a time when Denver was battling the LA Crips growing gang problem. Needless to say, the caps sold well locally and on the west coast.

Chris Rock also appropriated the logo

As a giant backdrop for the stage on “Bring the Pain”

The Marlins...

… are going to be renamed “Miami Marlins” when they move into their new stadium in 2012. Much better name.

♬♬♫♪♫♩♫ We'd kiss good night, My Mimi of the Lamplight, My own Mimi Marlin ♪♩♩♫♬♬
British Knights shoes sold well with the Crips as well.

The BK logo was taken to stand for “Blood Killer.”

Wow, Cliff Lee is pulling a Ted Lilly here.

Singles and steals a base.

Wow - I was expecting a high scoring game...
Anyone notice Jason will be in the bullpen ?

Having a poor second half ( there is a surprise) so Tracy is using Hammel over him as #3 starter.
“I think the first two-thirds of the season were exceptional,” Tracy said. “Right now he’s not throwing the ball quite in the same manner. And to ignore a guy that has thrown the ball as well as Jason Hammel has thrown it since the All-Star break, I really feel is doing ourselves a disservice.”

In other news Phillies now have 4 ex Cubs on the roster and would have 5 if Moyer were not injured.

What the hell is that thing growing on Werth's chin?
In case you missed it last night, here's a youtube clip of the end of yesterday's Twins/Tigers game

saw this on the SBN Twins site (Twinkie Town)

hurry before the mlb gendarmes take it down

linky

Is it me or did the Twins run out of the dugout a little earlier than usual on that play?
It isn't you, the entire team was out before he crossed the plate.
They'd have felt really foolish

If Gomez had slipped and been tagged out.

Wonder whether there will be any retribution next season.
Shades of "Merkle's Boner"
Nah

Casilla actually touched first base. :P

That would have been high-larious.
Well that was us in 98

Hope the Twins do better.

I'm doubting it.
Double up the RF line plates 2 for the Phils

2-0, 0 out

Go Phillies!!! [typing this feels strangely strange]
Second blood on a "Cubbie style" bit of fielding
Can someone give me a status-check - what is happening now on TV?

I’m listening to GameDay audio and Rollins just got a hit, runners on 1st and 2nd. Just curious what kind of lag there is.

Rund down betwenn 2nd and 3rd (replay)
This is the TV feed on MLB.TV
Quick typing while lying on stomach FAIL...
The Cubs are in the top 5 list of NL homeruns?!?
The Cubs are in the top 5 list of NL homeruns?!?
I don't know.
I blame in on Gregg.
And Aaron for my spelling
Well in the two-team cities (LA, Chicago, NY)

Chicago has hit the most HRs – 345. NY has 339 and LA 318. Oh, and if you want to add SF/Oak to the mix, they combined for 257.

Now if you dig a little deeper, it gets really embarrassing for the Mets, seeing as how the Yankees led the majors with 244 homers. Yep, that means the entire Mets team hit only 95 homers this year. Ouch!

3rd blood drawn in Philadelphia
4-0 Phils
Not yet...
Not yet...
Not yet...
Not yet...
Not yet...
Not yet...

Now it's 4-0 on a triple

The delay can really be irritating at times

fyi - twins beat the tigers last night... ;-)
and I thought the game was just starting.....
WHY IS BOB BROADCASTING A CARDS PLAYOFF GAME!?!?!!

GIVE ME ANSWERS!!!!

Not our Bob?
Yes our Bob.

I find solace in the fact that Cardinals fans will have to suffer through Dick Stockton.

It is our Bob.

Nice to see him getting work
What a catch...
Cliff "Didn't I win a Cy Young award last year? I'm pretty sure I did" Lee

Is crushing these guys.

There is a funny green thing running around in Philadelphia - Quick, evacuate the stadium
And now, TBS loses its feed.

At least here on Comcast.

Betcha it still works great on Time-Warner Cable :P
Again, please look at how Twins fans talk about their team and manager:

here. It’s oddly reminiscent of our collective headaches:

Gardenhire said he tried to find a way to get Alexi Casilla in the lineup. Casilla is 9-for-13 (.692) in his career off CC Sabathia. Gardenhire said he didn’t want to stick Casilla at third base tonight. Another option would have been second base, as Nick Punto is 6-for-36 (.167) off Sabathia. so of course Casilla is left out of the lineup?!? Gardy’s love of LNP knows no limits…

What has Casilla done lately at the plate, tho?

What’s that? Division-clinching RBI last night, you say? Hmm…

Hello Baylor my old friend...

This from the Phillies game thread
LA just mentioned on the radio that apparently there’s a high of 36 predicted for Denver on Sunday.

Mmm.... Philly cheese steak...

So what's the next game?

Giant pizza slice vs. lutefisk?

you betcha
Wrong State?

Hmm... many ways I'd like to answer that one but I'll stick with the safe route...

Even though she’s from Alaska, her dialect is definitely from Minnesota. How that came about I have no idea, but I’m sure there’s a reasonable explanation behind it – I just don’t wish to spend the time researching it. But a quick google search did reveal this:

The dialect spoken where Palin comes from is a Northern Minnesota dialect, which is a sub-dialect of the larger Upper Midwestern Dialect (or North Central), which is a subdialect of the Northern Dialect. With the Northern Minnesota dialect, certain vowels are held longer (for micro-seconds, but longer, nonetheless) and certain words are shoved together. The result can sound something like, “Yoooou betcha!”
Before I finally go to bed - any political innuendoes were unintentional.

I’m sure we could a fun discussion about the political side, but not here – natch…

I was, of course, playing with Alaska

...

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
MMMMMMM lutefisk.........

From Wikipedia:
“Lutefisk is not food, it is a weapon of mass destruction. It is currently the only exception for the man who ate everything. Otherwise, I am fairly liberal, I gladly eat worms and insects, but I draw the line on lutefisk.”

    “What is special with lutefisk?”

“Lutefisk is the Norwegians’ attempt at conquering the world. When they discovered that Viking raids didn’t give world supremacy, they invented a meal so terrifying, so cruel, that they could scare people to become one’s subordinates. And if I’m not terribly wrong, you will be able to do it as well.”

“But some people say that they like lutefisk. Do you think they tell the truth?”

“I do not know. Of all food, lutefisk is the only one that I don’t take any stand on. I simply cannot decide whether it is nice or disgusting, if the taste is interesting or commonplace. The only thing I know, is that I like bacon, mustard and lefse. Lutefisk is an example of food that almost doesn’t taste anything, but is so full of emotions that the taste buds get knocked out.”

Interview with Jeffrey Steingarten, author of The Man Who Ate Everything (translated quote from a 1999 article in Norwegian newspaper Dagbladet:)

Might as well cancel the NL playoffs if that is going to happen

In all seriousness the Phillies lineup is too good and too deep to lose many games

and a great bullpen too

wait…

LOL

I’d still rather see them than the Cardinals.

I'd rather the Cardinals be done after this round

Honestly I don’t know that the Phillies need a closer to win the NL. They obviously won’t get a complete game each start, but their offense is so good it might not matter

oh i know

id prefer the cardinals to swept by the dodgers…

Guten Nacht - Enjoy the next game!
Kevin Gregg's Detroit meltdown takes center stage

Turns out it was a game the Tigers were playing for a young man with cancer who became Brandon Inge’s friend. Nice story, didn’t need to see Gregg blow the save though

I did- up close and personal.

I was the guy directly behind home plate in row 3 burying his face in his hands as the game winning walkoff from Rayburn was launched. It had “that sound” right off the bat. I can still hear it.

Dipwad.

Really, TBS?

But I'd have to drive in all the way from Michigan!

you just downgraded yourself to a minor league ball...
LOL! Sorry.

I find that’s the quickest way to get an OSU fan (not you) to stop all the bravado, bluster and swagger when we play them. I never say it to OSU fans with any objects in their hand (beer cans, etc.) they can hurl at me.

Who’s OSU got this week? We have the Illini. I’m worried about an emotional letdown. We may need some (cue the Rolling Stones) “Emotional Rescue”…

The Buckeyes have a layup this weekend.
Don't be too sure about that.
There are no such things as layups in college football anymore

unless your school’s initials are ND and we’re talking about BCS guidelines. But that’s a rant for another day…

I believe OSU faces Wisconsin at home this week – no layup by any means. I love Terrelle Pryor at QB for the Buckeyes but until he gets more consistent, I get nervous every time he touches the ball. Kinda like Marmol… ;-)

Was just throwing out bait for a certain Mr. Badger.

He’s been caught, tagged, and released for further monitoring.

How many times do I have to tell you - Don't feed the badger!!!

Yikes, is he the guy that received the double

face/hand transplant?

Don't make me do it . . .

♪Hail to those . . . ♫

I'd then have to post all 4 wolverine highlights from

last season. All featuring the Red & White.

Brought to you by:

Bret Bielema.

I think he’s learned some lessons. We’ll see.

Then Bret will be the only head coach in that

game capable of learning from his mistakes.

Fisted out of play...
Guess not even rich New Yorkers are able to afford the fancy seats at Yankee Stadium.

Or they really don’t give a crap anymore…

I don't know why

But “Moon rock. Moon rock. Moon rock…” cracks me up

First blood for the Twins!
It's a beautiful thing:

Let's see how he reacts...
Man...............

These playoff games hit my heart! I long for a Cubs Championship Team! A magical once in a lifetime ride to make up for all the disappointment!

Hey ballhawk

They showed your favorite Yankee play. Again.

And I'm guessing that Spencer's throw was still on-line and still with enough oomph to get there on its own...

…without Glory Boy cutting it off and making it a much closer play than it would have been. ;-)

It’s no secret I don’t like the Yankees, but it always cracks me up when Yankee fans point to that play as being Exhibit A of the greatness that is Jeter. Can’t remember if it was that same game – if not, I’m pretty sure it was the same series – but there was a play where he went running – full speed – into the seats/railing along 3rd base line chasing a foul ball. He caught it, went tumbling over into the seats and emerged slightly bloodied IIRC. Again, I don’t like the guy, but THAT should be Exhibit A when you want to talk about how good a player he is.

Agreed all the way down the line
I agree completely

Screw Derek Jeter, stop glorifying a play where he is out of position. Screw all Yankees fans

I HEAR DEREK JETER DONOTES MONEY TO CHARITY

WHAT A SAINT…

And he's from Kalamazoo, so he's got THAT going for him...
Compared to Len & Bob

these announcers are boring to me.

Damn you Swisher.
iPhone At Bat users are getting live postseason video feeds for free.

I didn’t get regular season for free at all. Is this a glitch in the matrix or what?

You should have gotten a couple of games free a day during the regular season
SHHH! Don't tell anyone!
I'm gonna make some sugar cookies
Only the 7th?

Damned Sabathia

Jeter continues to be

verbally fellated by the TBS crew.

I'M HERE!

GO CUBS!

Hello??
Kinda like that tonight
Why is that/
AL game

And once everyone got done with dinner, the game was already over – not really worth talking about. Probably get a few more folks in for the Cards game (on TNT now, probably switching to TBS as soon as the affair in the Bronx and the post-game slobberfest are over)

the real question is....

what series drew Dick Stockton as the lead pbp man?

Cards-Dodgers

BB doing color for him. Maybe the suck and anti-suck will cancel each other out

I think they should have given Stockton Ronnie.

Now THAT I would pay to hear. For a minute or two anyway…

Thought the Twins momentum might carry over from last night

I thought wrong

They'll get a chance to rest up tomorrow

I’m guessing Pavano will get the start on Friday. Hopefully, they can take that one…

I dont have much hope for them against the Yanks

Either Pavano or Blackburn maybe?

With a last name like Coke

you could almost have forgiven Phil’s parents if they’d named him Jack.

Look at Bob in a suit.

Maybe Bob will make Dick a little less boring.

Putting Pujols on

Smart move, Torre

Yankee crowd seems rather nonplussed by it all.

That’s lame. What a boring bunch of spoiled kids.

BOB BRENLY!!!

OUR FUTURE COACH!!

LIND?!!?!!!>???!!?
This board sucks tonight.
As do the games

Thus far. The Phils game was a snoozer dominated by Lee, and the Twins looked like they left their bats back at the Metrodome.

And now the Cards take an early lead. I suggest drinking as a remedy.

well

the Dodgers got out of that one with very limited damage. Lets see if the Dodgers can come back.

Nice work Matt Kemp

2 run HR

It is completely unfair for the Yankees to "decide" when the game is going to be played.

I call “BULLSHIT” on Bud Selig for reason #484,391.

That decision is awarded to the team that finishes with the best record in their league

The other AL teams should have won more.

That's bullshit.

You already have home field advantage.

THE ONLY—ONLY reason the team has this f-ing “choice” is for television ratings. I hate it. I hate Bud Selig so much.

MLB gotta eat, too

I gotta say this: Being drunk is by far superior to being hungover.

Matt Kemp

Erases the Cardinal lead with a 2 run shot!

2-1 Dodgers, no outs in the bottom of the 1st.

all we need now is james loney to step the plate with the bases loaded!
I'm guessing Carp will setlle in pretty quick

Better get a few more off him this inning just to be sure

Another basehit

they are hitting Carp pretty hard. The only out he got so far was a hard hit ball to Pujols

Kemp looks like he is stoned
He always looks lke that.
Carp getting rocked.

And he needs a new hat.

thats how all the cool

kids wear them these days

Carpenter

fails miserably on the sac bunt attempt

Furcal...

…he could be on our team. A few years ago. :(

The Braves considered Renteria to be an upgrade at SS

Kinds regretted that decision. Escobar is pretty damned good, tho.

He's also an asshole.

And a bad teammate.

Hanley Ramirez is as well

I wouldn’t have any problems with either of them taking over for Theriot

Yunel Escobar = DO NOT WANT.

Bad teammate, causes trouble for Bobby Cox, has bad range, and makes errors.

hes also a good actor
Gotta have a plan for after baseball, I guess
How much harm can a bad teammate really do, tho?

:P

Milton Bradley, final answer.
Carpenter is getting by on his curveball tonight
Meanwhile, Wolf is getting just enough outs to get by

At the rate he’s going, he won’t last more than 5, though.

This sugar cookie dough is being extremely uncooperative

Gotta keep chilling it.

DeRosa E-5.
Damn that thing really sailed
Paging NBF

NBF to the white courtesy phone, please

is there a reason why belliard is playing instead of o dawg
Belliard has been on fire lately
its getting pretty ugly over at the cards blog already

they also apparently have a major major problem with the umping and Bob Brenly

Bob Brenly is AWESOME.

VEB can shut the hell up.

BB hasn't been anti-Cards at all AFAICT

Or is it just a problem that a Cubs announcer is calling the game?

Wait - I know

It’s because he’s no Tim McCarver, amirite?

few have been able to rise to the level of greatness

that McCarver is at

yeah their problem with him resides

in the fact that he is employed by WGN

BFD

His next paycheck will be signed by Fox. They’re paying him to be neutral, and everything I’m hearing, he’s fulfilling that condition admirably.

Jeff Weaver's hair

On to pitch

How the hell do you get that close to Hollywood

And still have troubles with your cameras?

yeah its really becoming annoying

trying to watch this game

oh wow

Cards are getting lucky

Finally got cookies in the oven

And now they’re taking way too long to cook. Damned wax paper is baking into the sheet :(

Cards 2 Dodgers 3

I feel unclean rooting for the Dodgers

I forced myself to do it the two time Maddux was there ( NO NOT IN ROUND ONE LAST YEAR) and I will do it when they play the Cardinals but I don’t like it.

I'd feel worse if it were the Giants

I grew up with KTLA on my cable, so I got plenty of Dodgers (after the Cubs were over). I blame that for my disdain for the Giants, although hating a majority of SF “sports fans” isn’t tough on its own,

I always liked the Giants

Especially before Barry.

I really don't mind this Dodger team

even after the sweep last year.

Hey, those who were throwing around the strange town names,

Here’s one I took in Germany in 2002.

I somehow see this making it into the next Bourne movie
How so?
Where else would Matt Damon hole up?
Nobody answered last night, but

obviously Sarah Silverman was what you were looking for.

*@%$!

Real fans don’t need props.

Not watching the game but there are no Dodger fans

Just people who come out to see and be seen at a baseball game.

I'll bet there are more Lakers "fans" that fit that description
Good point.

Especially with this guy, who seems to make that his duty at Dodgers games.

He first appears at about 45 seconds into the clip, wearing a plaid shirt and sunglasses. (Note: turn down your computer’s volume!)

Hiz reel

Let him snd u it

Belliard scores on a Furcal sac fly

Small seismic tremors reported as far away as Santa Clara.

4-2 Dodgers

I hope this game goes 18 innings.

I wdon’t want either team to make it past the NLCS.

Phils repeat as NL Champs?
Rox.

I don’t like the Phils either.

The Rockies aren't even a real team

It’s something made up by the residents of Colorado to tide them over when ski tourist dollars aren’t in the state and they’re all eating sand.

Well.

I still like them more than the Phils, Dodgers, or Cards.

I’m really rooting for the Twins, but I don’t think that series is gonna last long.

What do have against the Phillies ?
ugh.

I prefer the Dodgers winning the NL over the Phils

Holy crap!

A 1-2-3 inning! Who’da thunk it?

I'm off to bed.

Bob and Dick as commentators.

Brilliance there.

Gnight everyone.

All they need is Neil on the field

’Night

Everyone is gone ?
I'm still here. Anyone else?
You still around, Jessica?
surfing around with the game on the background

Just us I guess.

Yup
So we have a threesome ?
Guess I'm just watching, then

Always a bridesmaid…

You'd make a good one. ;)
Yes since you were just lurking for an hour anyway

Thought you had gone too bed too.

I've lurked around here a lot

And I’m entering this conversation for no reason.

Oh great, now I'm wondering why I entered this conversation.
Jeez a bunch of lurking perverts

I think I will go check out eBay.

I wasn't lurking, I was doing something else.

But later.

Have fun browsing eBay

I ought to high five myself for being so creepy.

A BCB ménage à trois?
What was that fan doing in the background?
Good Morning - What did I miss during the night
Guten morgen!

Do you remember that conversation you had about strange town names?

"Yes" he answers, wondering if he needs to duck...
Not quite. Here's one I took in Germany in 2002.

Nice - The name sounds like it could be in the Black Forest
That is exactly where it is.

I went through there with some relatives from Reutlingen on the way to the Schloss Hohenzollern.

Twinkies didn't do too well according to the MLB...

I got to jump in the bath and go to work – enjoy the rest of the evening

DeRo

I hate to see him as a Cardinal

Heck, I hated to se him in Cleveland.
Hello Cleveland!
Cards lose

Good night.

what a joke

nice to see dodgers fans at game one of the NLDS. they were really pumped up. oh wait nevermind. that looked like a crowd from a may 1st dodgers cards game. empty seats everywhere. half the people were confused at the other half when they got up to cheer for the final outs in the ninth. pathetic.

real baseball

WOW, what a game !! is there anything else that can be said?
