If you have a wristband that's within 1000 numbers of that one (going upward -- if you're just behind it in sequence, you may as well head to your keyboard and telephone, starting at 10 am CT), you should go to Wrigley Field NOW -- you'll be one of the first in line to get tickets when the box office opens at 8 am CT.
For the rest of the day, this thread will serve as your point for complaints, compliments, success stories, abject failure, blowing off steam, whatever you experience on Ticket On-Sale Day. Please don't start dozens of posts on ticket topics; let's consolidate everything here.
Good luck!

First POST!
I love and hate this day!
Griff5479 - February 20, 2009
Numbers
How long does it usually take to service the next group (which I would be in)? Will they get to them before the 10am online ticketing?
DrunkenSuperman - February 20, 2009
depends on how many they gave out
and how fast they move. According to a friend last year they called the first 1500 before 10 but that does not mean they were actually buying tickets. He also reported that the fist game “fell” at 10.15 and Saturdays were gone by about 1 ( this was all for bleachers).
Good luck
Doggie Stalker - February 20, 2009
Thanks!
Now comes the waiting game, hopefully not followed by the crying game.
DrunkenSuperman - February 20, 2009
250-500 numbers an hour was last year's pace
it moves faster as the day goes on – I think it was up to about 8,000 from the winning number at the end
doofus cubs guy - February 20, 2009
#12,000
any point in going up there today or is it VWR time for me?
KButler - February 20, 2009
Depends what you want
Based on previous years that number should get you in by mid to late afternoon. Bleacher tickets for most weekends will be gone
for June, July August . There may be some April or Sept weekends ( Sundays really) may be left. Non bleacher tickets probably about the same. If you need say a night game NOT against Brewers, Cardinals , White Sox , those SHOULD still be available.
Doggie Stalker - February 20, 2009
Good luck to all of you buying today
Today’s result should give everyone a good luck on how the economy might affect the cubs in the near future.
I for one will not be buying today. I have a stable job and same salary, but I’m cautious by nature and feel too hesitant to plunk down money for a weekend in Chicago five months in advance. I will wait to get tickets as it comes closer, and take my chances then.
I don’t think that I’ll be alone in this approach.
TC Cubby - February 20, 2009
and a good look, too
[good luck]
In the past, this day was a play hooky day for me. I would set up my three laptops and wait….anxiously….in the VWR.
Not this year. I’m at work. I may attempt to get a few tickets to some summer weekend games. If I don’t get them, I’ll try my luck in the Ticket Exchange or StubHub as the day draws nearer.
Good luck to everybody!
flachimesa - February 20, 2009
I think this is going to be a common theme this year.
Games will take longer to sell out.
Al Yellon - February 20, 2009
Today is a sad day for me
I’m fortunate that I am gainfully employed, but I can’t take a chance of spending a few thousand $$$ for my usual allotment of tickets. I don’t know if I can spend my weekends in Chicago (I’m from Florida) due to the current economic climate.

If I find out, I’ll post the info.
Al Yellon - February 20, 2009

can someone who has been down there give any updates as to what the time frame looks like? i’m at 10445 and i’ve heard conflicting reports on how quickly things go.
GreenLantern411 - February 20, 2009
cubs website
will update with what numbers they are serving
you should be in good shape
chicagodave - February 20, 2009
What time does the website open up
9:30 or Ten?
Laven - February 20, 2009
VWR opens at 9:30 CST
wait….wait….wait
flachimesa - February 20, 2009
Ballpark guess
on what wait times usually are?
Laven - February 20, 2009
you may never get in
flachimesa - February 20, 2009
He says oozing optimism
Laven - February 20, 2009
Seriously, you may wait for hours
Open up several [many] windows. Do not refresh. It will automatically refresh every 30 seconds. Maybe it was 60 seconds, I can’t remember.
I cut and paste the url into a separate new window every 10-15 seconds to space it out. I don’t know if that actually does anything, but I’ve been lucky enough to get tickets in the past doing this.
The primo games go first.
By mid-afternoon, you’ll be getting in a regular basis, but the game choices are not as good.
Tickets start showing up on StubHub, eBay, and Craigslist shortly after 10:10 AM. LOL.
flachimesa - February 20, 2009
I've read the horror stories the last couple years
about the VWR. And yet, here I am, trying to get tickets for the Cubs-Mets series last weekend in August
Laven - February 20, 2009
If you're lucky enough to get in and you go for Saturday's game first
you should have a shot at that one.
August/September games don’t sell out as quickly as June-July-August weekend games.
Are you going for the entire weekend series?
Also, do you already have your account set up with MLB? That’s important. You don’t want to waste time inputting your information.
flachimesa - February 20, 2009
Yes I have an account
from my mlb.tv account. I am trying to go for the whole series. I figure if I can get max tickets for at least one game, I may be able to trade for the other two
Laven - February 20, 2009
Nevermind
Laven - February 20, 2009
anyone
know where to get a printable Cubs schedule online?
china423 - February 20, 2009
Any idea
The Trib web cite had tix for sale already this morning? The link was there in green, and now has disappeared. There was considerable mark up for the tickets they were offering.
Slakkr - February 20, 2009
Check that
the link is still there inside the Cubs portion of the sports cite.
Slakkr - February 20, 2009
wow
now the trib is even scalping tickets?
chicagodave - February 20, 2009
It is just a broker link
Basically well placed advertising with the Trib name but it is a separate company.
Doggie Stalker - February 20, 2009
up to 10396
updated on cubs homepage
chicagodave - February 20, 2009
Today is one of my favorite days of the year....
signifies the start of the season is just around the corner. I’ve taken this day off from work the past 5 years. I actually don’t mind the VWR and have never had any issues getting tickets. I was actually upset when they changed the playoff ticketing last year to the lottery b/c I’ve always been able to get tickets.
VWR here I come (in 35 minutes)!!
cubbie08 - February 20, 2009
numbers?
They said on channel 9 that they are posting what number exactly they are on, on the cubs website. Anyone see this? Only numbers I see are the 8396 – 10396.
chicagodave - February 20, 2009
Well...
… obviously, they can’t sit there and update each time a number is being served. They have called 08396-10396 to come to the park now. That’s more than in previous years (usually, the first group is only 1000, not 2000).
They’ll update this probably by 11 am or noon, to call the next group.
Al Yellon - February 20, 2009
yea
Thats what I was thinking. They update every hour or so.
chicagodave - February 20, 2009
It doesnt matter if you get in the VWR
at 9:30 or 10 does it?
KButler - February 20, 2009
nope
chicagodave - February 20, 2009
Since it's supposedly random, it probably doesn't matter when you get in the VWR
if you get in.
I like to get in early just in case servers get overwhelmed.
flachimesa - February 20, 2009
just out of curiosity
does anyone know roughly how many people get in this waiting room? Not that it matters, just thought it would be interesting to know how many suckers like us were in the dreaded VWR
KButler - February 20, 2009
I'm already in the VWR

flachimesa - February 20, 2009

ryno HOF 2005 - February 20, 2009
It has been
a cold and crappy enough winter, that in a sick and sadistic way, I am looking forward to the VWR. Only because it is one more step towards spring training starting and then towards the season starting, and that means warmth, sunshine, and leaves growing on the ivy.

Al Yellon - February 20, 2009

ryno HOF 2005 - February 20, 2009

chicagodave - February 20, 2009
I am not busting my butt to get Cubs v Cards
tickets like most years. I am hoping my brother can get us some tickets for some All-Star break events through his Cards fan contacts. If he doesn’t have luck with that, he is going to line up some Cubs v Cards tickets to see them in STL. This will free up time to focus on some Phils, Indians, and Brewers games today.

The only handy thing about my swing shift,
is that I have Thursdays and Fridays off, so basically I get to waste the good portion of my day off sitting here wishing and fretting. Don’t get me wrong though, I always have an extra sick day in the bank to make sure I can take this day off every year just incase something changes.

I took off work today. Just like I have for the past few years. I’m lucky to have 2 computers in my house with 2 seperate DSL lines. I have close to 60 windows open between the 2 computers. Some years I’ve gotten in right away, other years it’s taken a long time. One computer is upstairs and the other is in my basement so I’m going to get my cardio done today running up and down the stairs every 5 minutes.

But couldn’t have just run a long network cord and put the two computers beside eachother?

Craig in South Bend - February 20, 2009

(I have a Mac. Google Chrome isn’t available for Mac yet.)
Al Yellon - February 20, 2009
Not really
Any other browsing is fine because it’s blazing fast for loading pages. This though, it’s set to reset every 15 seconds, so it’s working as well as my Firefox and IE windows. I’ll let you know how it works if I get into the ticketing portion with a Chrome window.
Craig in South Bend - February 20, 2009
I read somewhere
That chome isn’t that much faster than firefox. Not true?
Laven - February 20, 2009
I think it's faster
I’m not geeky enough to bust out a stopwatch and time it though, but other websites have documented a speed difference. I do a lot with graphic design and stuff, so if I’m loading high-res images and downloading them for use in a work, I’m definitely using Chrome.
Craig in South Bend - February 20, 2009
Its much faster
the latest version of firefox is pretty buggified
Andre Fonseca - February 20, 2009

For this and for general use. For general use, I still prefer Firefox until Chrome comes along with more plug-in support.

cubbieblue86 - February 20, 2009
I don't think that's what he was asking.
If you get the “Chicago Cubs Ticketing” page it will sit there until you click on a date to get in. It shouldn’t bump you back into the VWR.
Al Yellon - February 20, 2009
No
that’s what i was saying. They say something like “you have 3 minutes to complete this page”
cubbieblue86 - February 20, 2009
That's only after you actually order the tickets, though.

BUT, I got in on the phone! 6 tickets for Opening Day! Holy crap!

Glad to know the phones are working, too.

I say it every year, but...
the virtual waiting room needs some virtual magazines.

flachimesa - February 20, 2009
It's 4 PM somewhere...
Craig in South Bend - February 20, 2009
Think about it this way
If the cubs were playing an afternoon game today, doors would be open already. You’re saying you wouldn’t have a beer already?
Laven - February 20, 2009
Hell
I would have been 2 beers in from being on the South Shore hours ago
Craig in South Bend - February 20, 2009
pour me an Old Style
flachimesa - February 20, 2009
Just one?
Laven - February 20, 2009
As long as this is taking
I’ll take six.
Sioux City Cubs Fan - February 20, 2009
But they'd be 12-year-old virtual magazines...
… that have nothing to do with baseball.
Al Yellon - February 20, 2009
six bleachers July 11th!!
one of my 49 browsers hit right away.
iCub - February 20, 2009
does anyone know...
can i get in a second time and order 6 more for the same game?
iCub - February 20, 2009
If you actually make it though again, sure
The limit of tickets you can buy this weekend though is what, 42?
Craig in South Bend - February 20, 2009
6 per game limit
flachimesa - February 20, 2009
But if you get in with a different account
you should be able to order more
Craig in South Bend - February 20, 2009
with a different credit card or address, maybe
I’ve never heard of anyone getting canceled, but I would not take the chance
flachimesa - February 20, 2009
yep, you're right...
i didnt see the fine print. 6 per game (per account)
iCub - February 20, 2009
not sure, but if you could,
you are super lucky to first off get in a second time and then to have tickets still available for the same game. Maybe you would have to use a different MLB account and or credit card to do it.
love the ivy - February 20, 2009
No luck online, but 6 for Opening Day over the phone!
Zeke - February 20, 2009
Actually I did get in online, but got booted out due to "high volume"
Zeke - February 20, 2009
Ah man...
I had another shot go through the VWR but the traffic load was huge and it took forever to get to the confirmation page…then when I got there apparently I missed my time window and the tickets weren’t being held anymore!?!
Buggers!
CubFan81 - February 20, 2009
AUUGGH!
I got in, got WS tickets and I couldnt enter in my CC number and other info in time (as all the other browsers refreshed, it delayed my input). I lost the tickets and got timed out. UGH
Champ Summers - February 20, 2009
That's why you have your account set up beforehand

hmmm....identity theft or Sox tix?
flachimesa - February 20, 2009
do they mail "cubs" branded tix or are they just the "tickets.com" crap version? this will be my daughters first game and i wanted a memento...
iCub - February 20, 2009
You get tickets.com tickets if you have them mailed.
If you do “will call” you can get Cubs branded tickets.
Al Yellon - February 20, 2009
dangit...
hopefully someone will be willing to trade in the bleachers… so if i pick will-call can i change the name of who is picking them up?
iCub - February 20, 2009
I'll trade you
What game? Or I’ll meet you inside and give yo my ticket stub. Should be easy.
gocubsgo22 - February 20, 2009
tickets.com branded
unless you pick them up at will call

getting atleast one pair of good tickets for a great game
will wash away what’s left of the bad taste left in mouth from The Game That Never Was(my title for the first game of NLCS tickets I managed to get last year). I want to go into this season with a minty fresh optimism.

can I change the name of who picks them up? I’m from out of town and if something comes up i wouldnt want to let the tix go to waste.
iCub - February 20, 2009
No. You have to show ID
cubzfan - February 20, 2009
Maybe when the ticket exchange is posted
for that week or whatever, you can find someone willing trade that got their tickets in Chicago. especially with bleacher seats, it would be a wash for both fo ya.
love the ivy - February 20, 2009
I believe there is a form you can fill out and change the pick up name (that was policy two years ago when I had to do this)
gocubsgo22 - February 20, 2009
How many seats
are in the bleachers? I just got tickets for the July 12 cards game and the bleacher ticket numbers were in the 2900’s

Doesn't MLB set the schedule?
Tim M - February 20, 2009
All summer games sell out anyway so it does not make a difference to Cubs
gocubsgo22 - February 20, 2009
they could play
at 7:32 am on a tuesday and still sell out. it doesnt matter to them when they play it.

I'll set one up this weekend.
Al Yellon - February 20, 2009
There should be a priority system put in place
Based on how far away from Wrigley Field you are. I just want some bleachers for the ONE WEEK I will be in Chicago this summer… flying 5,000 miles to be there!
sanantonecub - February 20, 2009

Probably because demand is down this year.
Al Yellon - February 20, 2009
I don't think so at all.
The VWR seems to be slower this year. It’s never taken me 50 minutes to get in to buy for a single game before.
cwyers - February 20, 2009
Yeah, in past years
I would have been in about 3 times by now.
cubzfan - February 20, 2009
Maybe more people
are buying less tickets each. Say somebody who wouldn’t normally purchase tickets figures they can get a few because others won’t be buying so many.

iCub - February 20, 2009
I thought I read 3 years old as long as they sit on a lap, not sure though
Charlemagne - February 20, 2009
3 or older need ticket - I think
As long as the young ones can sit on your lap, they don’t ask for birth certificates or anything
Tim M - February 20, 2009
Take it from a father of a 3 yr old and a 2 yr old
anything over 1 should get a ticket. It’s hard enough keeping them entertained at the game. Buying the extra seat gets you a half hour of “I’ll be quiet because I’m cool and I have my own seat to get in and out of”

It feels weird, and I’m not bragging (much) but I have a friend who has season tickets and he is selling me 5 games worth. Also, a buddy who I convinced to get a wristband yesterday got in this morning 800 #’s from the start and bought the other 4 games we wanted. But I feel strange—the pathos, the angst, the waiting of the VWR…I kind of miss it. My day off (taken for this express purpose) feels…anti-climactic.

I got in quickly (thanks to 3 Firefox windows with 9 tabs each!). But all I get when I hit “Continue” is this:
We’re sorry, we were unable to process your request due to high transaction volumes. Please try to submit your request again.
Does that mean it’s an issue with the game I’ve selected, or am I just at another “hurry up and wait” stage?

just keep clicking continue
It will work eventually
cubbieblue86 - February 20, 2009
I got in, but all they had for that game (Jun 19) was

Craig in South Bend - February 20, 2009
Summing up these comments
The system does appear to be more stressed than in years past. Perhaps the refreshing every 15 seconds is one reason.
The good news is that games are probably selling out slower, since it takes each order longer to process.

ryan89 - February 20, 2009
I have never gotten in
since they went to this VWR system. Ever.
I’m really sick and tired of paying scalper prices every damn year.
ScottT - February 20, 2009
Check Craigslist or the BCB trader thread
dr stabbingworth - February 20, 2009
We only go to Opening Day
never seen any for Opening Day on the trader and Craigslist is scalper prices.
ScottT - February 20, 2009
Losts of only single ticket availability left
I’m pretty sure for all Cubs v. Sox and Cleveland and Dodgers.
I got 6 bleachers for 4/18 v Cards, 6/16 v Sox & 7/10 v. Cards. I’m done.
wrigley's ivy - February 20, 2009
can't get in
I have 20 windows open and have yet to get in. is it only people with one browser open who are able to buy tickets. Maybe they will only let you in if you have one vwr open…?
dplaw09 - February 20, 2009
No. Doesn't matter how many you have open.
cubzfan - February 20, 2009
Doesn't matter
This is true. Unless the people who code this lottery system are completely dumb, there is no way having multiple browser windows open improves your chances.
ImSoDan - February 20, 2009
Schedules shows games sold out
The schedule on Cubs.com no longer shows the T icon for opening day, and the Sox games on 6/16 and 6/18. Only ones I looked at. The VWR window(s) are still showing all games available.
MetsSuck - February 20, 2009
Last year it was tardy in updating that red text at the bottom.
n/t
wrigley's ivy - February 20, 2009
FYI
Despite having roughly 50 Firefox/Explorer tabs open, 2 of my 3 games were purchased via the phone.
Good luck BCBers!!!
wrigley's ivy - February 20, 2009
Here's an alternate idea to the VWR hell...
The Cubs visit the Tigers in mid-June. Single game Tiger tickets go on sale March 7, BUT- you can purchase a mini-season ticket plan of 6 games NOW- and choose three of the games as the Cubs/Tigers series. You could then sell off the rest or if you have a relative in Michigan, get them to go in on the packet WITH you. They could choose 3 other games that fit their interests.
Not the same as Wrigley, but for the price of one night’s lodging in Chicago (let alone game tickets), I got 2 box seat tickets to all three Cubs/Tigers games.
Just a thought…
Zeke - February 20, 2009
There are other teams who have mini-packs like that.
The Phillies, for example.
Al Yellon - February 20, 2009
Cool. Al, maybe someday, so will the Cubs.
NAAAAAAAAA!
Comerica Park (aka: “The Coma”) is only about 75 minutes from home for me, so it was a good deal. June can’t get here soon enough. I wonder if I can wear my Banks jersey and my Tiger hat?
Think Ernie would mind?
Zeke - February 20, 2009
Well, the Cubs do have those 13-game packs.
But those are mostly to sell tickets for the less desirable games.
Al Yellon - February 20, 2009
True. But it's a long commute from mid-Michigan
for April mid-week and mid-September games during the school year.
Hmm. Either Cubs tickets or another term of tuition payments to MSU for my kid.
Give me a minute, I’m thinking…
Sorry Andy! It’s community college for you next term.
Ha!
Zeke - February 20, 2009
YESSSSSSSSSSSSS
3 bleacher seats for the Friday game against my other favorite team, the Indians!
Craig in South Bend - February 20, 2009
I'm Done...
I got in and got my tickets for the 2 games that I needed to get (besides my season tickets). Got the last Friday (Oct 2nd) and bleachers for a game in August for me & my daughter (Aug 14th). TIme to close out my 30+ browser windows.

Can you buy tickets at Wrigley today IF
you don’t have a wristband? Thanks!
arrowman - February 20, 2009
No but you can buy them tomorrow
Today is all wristbands
Doggie Stalker - February 20, 2009
Phone
the phone number is always busy. i’m not sure how people are getting through?
dplaw09 - February 20, 2009
If it's busy
somebody is obviously on the line. Just gotta keep trying.

ManBearPigMBP - February 20, 2009
What's the phone number to call to try to get tickets... 2 plus hrs in VWR...

Be prepared to hate someone named “Lori” and get sick of the opening chords of “take me out to the ballgame”
best of luck. worked for me twice with continuous redial
wrigley's ivy - February 20, 2009
There is a different # if you are outside Illinois.
866-652-2827
Al Yellon - February 20, 2009
Unfortunately, that's still a toll-free number
Which I can’t call.
sanantonecub - February 20, 2009
Thought this was in reply to me...
ignore and see below :)
sanantonecub - February 20, 2009
I had the same problem...
once I was in. If you keep clicking on “continue” you will get through. I got tickets to April
18th against the Cards and June 19th against Cleveland. Taking my girlfriend to her first cubs game on April 18th…so it had to be against the Cards.

dplaw09 - February 20, 2009
Is there a non-800 number to try to call?
(800 number’s are EXPENSIVE for me to call from England)
sanantonecub - February 20, 2009
Unfortunately, no.
Al Yellon - February 20, 2009
Thanks, Al
sanantonecub - February 20, 2009
it was a kick in in the junk
cause i bought tix to the only game avilable against the sox and now that im in again i cant get more
said you can still purcahse up to 6 for the Jun 17 Sox game
ManBearPigMBP - February 20, 2009
You can, but you need to do that all at once...
… if you wait, someone will buy them ahead of you.
Al Yellon - February 20, 2009
...
this is obsurd. i wonder what number they are on at wrigley. i am 17,000
dplaw09 - February 20, 2009
VWR is complete BS
this year. I got picked like 5 times in an hour last year, not once yet this yaer.
eternale1 - February 20, 2009
This is crazy- its been over an hour and a half with NO hits on multiple browsers
Champ Summers - February 20, 2009
wristband # on cubs.com just got bumped up to 11396
They started with a 2000 range, now it’s up to 3000.
ballhawk - February 20, 2009
Question
After ordering tickets online how long till you should get a confirm email?
TJ3117 - February 20, 2009
If I recall, last year I didnt get a confimration email until late at night
Champ Summers - February 20, 2009
That's correct.
You will get an email eventually. In the meantime, as noted above, I would recommend printing out your confirmation page.
Al Yellon - February 20, 2009
ok i thought so
because i got 4 games and only received confirmed emails from two of them. and its the 1st and 3rd game i bought. just thought that was kind of weird.
TJ3117 - February 20, 2009
Bleachers sold out
for Friday, May 29 vs Dodgers. I need 2 bleachers for that day. Anyone have extra they’d be interested in swapping?
I have several ticketing windows open right now and would be willing to purchase tix to a game someone may need and swap out??
cubbie08 - February 20, 2009
we need a jump thread
flachimesa - February 20, 2009
Here you go.
Use this FanPost as an overflow thread.
Al Yellon - February 20, 2009
Might as well...
neverAcquiesce - February 20, 2009
Cards July 10
Is there a way to find out of a game is sold out yet or not? I figure this Friday Cardinal game in July will be a hot ticket and I’m just trying to figure out if it’s still worth waiting….virtually.
Sorry if this has already been covered, but there are a lot of comments here to sift through. Thanks.
awesomedawson - February 20, 2009
Saturday rules?
I am still trying on the VWR, and unfortunately holding a wristband in the 4300s. John Williams said this morning that there were 20,000 wristbands, so I guess that puts me about 16,000th in line.
However, what are the rules on the box-office for Sat.? Are wristbands honored? Is it worth it to go early?
pinkpony - February 20, 2009
No wristbands after today.
But, most of the more desirable games will be sold out.
About wristbands, they did print 20,000, but I’m guessing less than half of them were distributed.
Al Yellon - February 20, 2009
Is there usually a big mob scene on Saturday?
I’m just shooting for upper-deck tix on Tuesday nights — probably not the most sought-after tix.
pinkpony - February 20, 2009
I don't believe so.
And especially not tomorrow, when there’s supposed to be a snowstorm.
Al Yellon - February 20, 2009
Opening Day Sold out
I’m shutting my browsers down.
Tim M - February 20, 2009
went to ticketbrokersecrets.com… bought info… got 7 games – 6 each in 1:30 hrs… Yeah.. best $20 ever spent

Care to divulge the secrets?!?
Pretty please.

TkGoUWGB - February 20, 2009
FYI, 6/20 IS SOLD OUT
tony412 - February 20, 2009
so far
i’ve got 2 outfield box seats on apr 15 vs. colorado, and 4 outfield terrace reserve seats sept. 17 against the brewers. working on 3 outfield terrace reserve seats for cards on my burthday july 10th, but i’m struggling with the high transaction volume error.
nathew - February 20, 2009
You can get through that "high transaction volume" thing.
Eventually, it will let you through.
Al Yellon - February 20, 2009
yeah.
it just takes about a hundred clicks. i eventually got through.
nathew - February 20, 2009
aaaand i'm done for the day
only had about $300 to spend on tickets and i’m pretty sure i went over that.
nathew - February 20, 2009
i got 5 outfield box seats against the indians on 6.21
but, missed everything else…
dplaw09 - February 20, 2009
and its section 438... :(
dplaw09 - February 20, 2009
I guess...
I won’t be going to any games this year. This VWR is much worse than last year.
Charlemagne - February 20, 2009
i thought it was the same
i always get in within the first 15 mins.
TJ3117 - February 20, 2009
I got in 6 times in the 1st 2 hours last year. Not once this year.
Charlemagne - February 20, 2009
Keep trying.
It will get easier later in the day.
Al Yellon - February 20, 2009
OFF TODAY
I;m off today so went into the VWR even though we have season tickets on behalf of friends.
Got some ticks.
puckishcubsfan - February 20, 2009
they have medicine for that....
LT - February 20, 2009
Question
In the old days you didn’t pay a service charge when bought at the window. Is this still true?
puckishcubsfan - February 20, 2009
Yes.
Al Yellon - February 20, 2009
Thanks
I have rarely bought tickets the usual way. Still in the VWR on behalf of friends.
puckishcubsfan - February 20, 2009
You just run with
their cards, right?
blackhawk24 - February 20, 2009
Mailing Question...
aside from the fact that it COSTS $2.50 to print tickets at home and its FREE to mail them, if I bought tickets to multiple games and chose to have the tickets mailed to me, will I get them all in one envelope or multiple envelopes since each was a separate transaction?
CubFan81 - February 20, 2009
multiple
Charlemagne - February 20, 2009
multiple
they will send them in the order of the games. If you got games in april you will get those first and so on.
TJ3117 - February 20, 2009
LOL, seriously they charge you print tickets at home?
No wonder it’s the ‘suggested way’ on the website.
IllinoisCubs - February 20, 2009
Exactly.
What a scam. They charge you $2.50 for you to use your own ink and paper.
The best way is either mail (if you don’t mind the tickets.com ticket stock) or will call.
Al Yellon - February 20, 2009
All this time in the VWR
reminded me of this song from Sunday’s episode of Flight of the Conchords
I would classify it as NSFW to be on the safe side (language and sexuality). It’s so stupid that I doubt you’ll be offended, but it makes me laugh. Juvenile humour.
Thought a tension breaker was in order.
Gibbon Jockey - February 20, 2009
Childrens
Would my 10 month old need a ticket?
Spydey - February 20, 2009
Don't think so.
cwyers - February 20, 2009
thanks!
I wouldn’t think so too, but Indiana University sez that birth is when you need to get tickets. Hoped Cubs weren’t that bad.
Spydey - February 20, 2009
Good news!
All bleacher, Cubs Mets
6 – Friday August 28th
6 – Saturday August 29th
4 – Sunday August 30th
Laven - February 20, 2009
i got 4 games of saturday bleachers and i am very happy. good luck to all
drodd - February 20, 2009
VWR is a nightmare
after waititng patiently for 3 hours with about 20 windows open, i finally got in only to get the infamous “We’re sorry, we were unable to process your request due to high transaction volumes. Please try to submit your request again” then i get kicked out and back to the VWR ;-(
cubbiebear316 - February 20, 2009
I hear ya on that one.
My Kevin Borseth quote sums it up quite well.
TkGoUWGB - February 20, 2009
happened to me
I kept hitting the back button and it put me back in the Cubs Ticketing page. finally picked a game I could get tix for and got them. good luck.
Spydey - February 20, 2009
I have 10 tabs open now
No luck so far, maybe they block Missouri IP’s in order to keep Cardinal fans out
nji232 - February 20, 2009
85 more VWRs opening up
I just got my fifth and final game, all the week of Memorial Day. 2 vs the Pirates, 3 vs the Dodgers. Couldn’t get anything better than Terrace Reserved Infield – dodging poles. Those 13pack and 9pack games they sold these past 2 years have hurt the availability. Not too reasonable for this Mississippi kid to buy tickets to 13 random games…
Question on the will call. I had mine mailed to me, but I’d like the Cubs printed tickets. Next year, if I left them at will call, can I pick up all my games at once, or would I be at will call every day.
sparky39762 - February 20, 2009
You can pick up all your games at once if you choose will call.
Al Yellon - February 20, 2009
Thanks
I’ll definitely do that next year. I just wanted to avoid waiting in line each day.
sparky39762 - February 20, 2009
I got some bleacher seats for the Dodgers series
LT - February 20, 2009
No seriously F#&$ YOU!
So I finally get in.
I got four about 3 or 4 games and I’m not getting any luck. Lots of “Server is too busy to process your request” put in your entry again kind of thing. I finally settle on a game that I want and go to buy the tickets.
The screen to type in the numbers to confirm takes me three or four times to get correct.
I finally get to enter my information. I’m off by 1 letter on my address because it’s telling me I have a time limit and I rushed the typing. I have to go back and now I’ve got 3 minutes to enter everything. It couldn’t have been more than 1 minute and I enter my stuff.
The tickets I want are no longer on hold for me and they send me back to the virtual waiting room. Seriously, what the hell?! Listen, I want to buy the tickets from you. I’m a good paying customer, not some scalper. By rushing me, you might have helped another scalper get in. I seriously don’t understand why I need to be so rushed. Are they worried that the most of the tickets for today won’t sell out by the end of the day?! And please don’t kick me back to virtual waiting room. I clearly want to buy tickets. Thanks for kicking me out and rushing me so some scalper with 100 tabs up can come in and buy his tickets. Just go to hell. Quite a model you have going here.
IllinoisCubs - February 20, 2009
its actually quite simple.
Just sign up for an MLB.com account. It saves all you info. Then once you purchase your tixs you only have to confirm the email. That way you dont feel rushed.
TJ3117 - February 20, 2009
?
You have to sign up for a MLB account in the first place.
IllinoisCubs - February 20, 2009
yeah
so all you info like address, name, email and credit card is saved. So you shouldnt have to re type any of the info.
TJ3117 - February 20, 2009
crazy day
Okay, so I have had a single window open that i started with at 9:30. No Action on it at all. I opened a bunch of windows up at like noon and one of those windows let me buy tickets within 5 minutes. That single window that I opened earlier, still no chances. CRAZY.
I got three bleacher seats to Sunday game against the Indians.
SammySosa - February 20, 2009
That's how it goes
Had I only opened up 8 windows, I still would not be selected. I had 45 open on my computer (picked twice in 3hrs), and 35 that I opened later on my wife’s computer (picked three times in 2hrs). I had 45 open for an hour, and my wife’s computer was the first to get picked – within 5min of opening.
sparky39762 - February 20, 2009
One window! HA!
that would be insane to have to wait for one window. pure torture. I never have less than like 90 windows open on multiple computers.
TJ3117 - February 20, 2009
I give up
This is crazy. I have gone to several games every year and always buy my tickets online and really haven’t had any problems. This year I have been in the VWR since 9:30 and have not gotten in once. I am frustrated and annoyed.
Charlemagne - February 20, 2009
There HAS GOT TO BE a better way to do this!!!!
tony412 - February 20, 2009
There is.
The White Sox have a waiting room by game and not a single room for everyone. It’s much better if you’re not going for Opening Day, Cubs/Sox, and the like.
…of course I’m always better, because I’ve never once gotten through the VWR to be able to purchase tickets in the first 6 hours they’re on sale, regardless of the number of windows open, etc. Fortunately, I tend to like seeing the Nationals, so I can get tickets next week without too much worry (although bleechers are often sold out).
MarchHare - February 20, 2009
That's because the Sox use Ticketmaster instead of tickets.com
Ticketmaster has a far better interface. I’ve always had better luck with Ticketmaster, especially for concerts.
Al Yellon - February 20, 2009
my VWR just let me in!!!!! To the Cincy Reds schedule to buy tix. WTF? How did that happen?
tony412 - February 20, 2009
That is just bizarre.
What game was it?
Al Yellon - February 20, 2009
perhaps...
you clicked on an away game to get into the virtual waiting room in the first place.
nathew - February 20, 2009
overflow thread!!
want to make a new one?
Chanman25 - February 20, 2009
There already is one.
See the FanPost list.
Al Yellon - February 20, 2009
So basicly
the only way to get in is cheat with 1000 browsers open?
Charlemagne - February 20, 2009
why is it cheating?
you should atleast have more than 30 on one computer.
TJ3117 - February 20, 2009
Some of those browsers must have been on steroids.
Al Yellon - February 20, 2009
with cousin browsers..
Chanman25 - February 20, 2009
i'd say firefox
seriously, look at that RAM usage.
nathew - February 20, 2009
Finally!
Got two bleacher seats for my Birthday, on Ernie Banks Bobblehead night.
Good ol' 23 - February 20, 2009
ugh
Now every time my window is about to open up to the purchasing screen… it goes blank white then freezes. Anyone else having that problem?
AGC - February 20, 2009
Pity, I would go to Chicago this summer, I really wanted to go to the Cleveland series
but I won’t be able to get out to Chicago anyway. Haha, though it is funny seeing yall trying to get through
Chanman25 - February 20, 2009
If i try to have more than one window for each browser
it tells me to be patient and wait and won’t let me open it.
Charlemagne - February 20, 2009
are you using firefox or IE?
TJ3117 - February 20, 2009
both
Charlemagne - February 20, 2009
use the tabs
just copy and past the link into a bunch of tabs. that’s what i do. try that link.
http://frontline.purchasenow2.tickets.com/buy/MLBEventInfo?orgid=5&agency=MLB&trxstate=8
TJ3117 - February 20, 2009
VWR for 4+ hours - Nothing!!
Got in at 9:33, not one chance to buy tix. Ridiculous!
If the Dad’s Day game sells out, anyone care to hook up a Dad of three little Cubs fans? I’ll do a trade or whatever if that works….
FarNorthBurbs - February 20, 2009
Dad's Day sold out
Oh well….I have some backup games. Anyone that can help, I’d appreciate it.
Hoping to score tix for my birthday now….Saturday of the Marlins series in May. We’ll see.
FarNorthBurbs - February 20, 2009
maximize the number of windows open
Keep hitting continue when the high traffic volume message is displayed.
blackhawk24 - February 20, 2009
that was frustrating
i got Cubs Brewers and Cubs Indians.. the indians game only had tickets available in the non-alcohol section (not 21 anyway) anyone know how good/bad these seats are?
All The Way - February 20, 2009
Did they give a section number?
Al Yellon - February 20, 2009
101
row 11
All The Way - February 20, 2009
Those seats are right next to the LF corner.
They’re not bad seats.
Al Yellon - February 20, 2009
Ok Al
What’s the way around the high volume?
TkGoUWGB - February 20, 2009
You mean when you get in and get the "high volume" message?
Keep clicking “continue”. Eventually, you should get through.
Al Yellon - February 20, 2009
Right
that worked for me… I had clicked continue so many times that I didn’t realize I was on to the next page lol….
LT - February 20, 2009
How does it feel to be a hero, Al
Got TWO games. Pirates in late August and what should be a crucial 4 game set against the Crew.

Congrats!
Al Yellon - February 20, 2009

4 – 1st row isle seats in the Terrace Reserve area Cubs/Sox
5 – 3rd row isle seats in the Terrace Reserve area Cubs/Cards

how long does it take to get tickets if you choose mail
dariot2 - February 20, 2009
i think they send them out march 10th i read on there somewhere.. i chose to just print mine
All The Way - February 20, 2009
Finally got in
one of the games I wanted is already sold out, now for the other there is a 1 ticket max for the bleachers. WTF is the point of this?
bheidge - February 20, 2009
Well now they are sold out
that was a waste of a day, looks like I will be taking it in the ass from stubhub again this summer.
bheidge - February 20, 2009
don’t tickets free up once this first day on sale mess is over?
All The Way - February 20, 2009
I think so
I got some good seats a couple weeks after tix went on sale last year. Five seats together for a Sept game against the Brewers (“The Soto Game” ).
FarNorthBurbs - February 20, 2009
I HATE
that i have pressed continue about 300 times so far
dariot2 - February 20, 2009
any info on
intrasquad game rosters?
brian custer - February 20, 2009
I had pretty good luck for the first time ever.
I was able to get a pair of tix to each of these games: 4/17 and 4/19 Cards, 6/20 and 6/21 CLE, 7/10 Cards, 9/2 HOU (my birthday!) and 10/2 and 10/4 ARI.
dfrancon - February 20, 2009
Cubs - Please enter the 21st Century
Get rid of this F**king VWR and sell tickets for each game.
The ownership is a corrupt as your former Gov. with this BS.
I’m sure they are already selling a handful of tickets accross the street
parrotinct - February 20, 2009
Two Friends And I...
..netted either 4 or 6 tickets across 23 games using this method:
One friend was at home using his and his 3 roommates computers simultaneously, and got about half of those himself.
Best catches:
7/2 vs Brewers – 6 Bleachers
7/3 vs Brewers – 4 Grandstand
7/4 vs Brewers – 4 Grandstand
7/11 vs Cards – 4 Grandstand
7/12 vs Cards – 10 Bleachers
Also got games with Marlins, Astros, Dogers, Twins, Phillies, Pirates, Indians, Braves, Mets and Reds.
Way psyched, best luck ever this year. Hope everybody else made out just as well, and have a great weekend!
AndrewJStone - February 20, 2009
By the way...
…thats 10 tabs across 7 browsers, for 70 VWRs going. Every time i got through, i closed out of ALL and started over. It was very successful. I can only image this is the method some of the less advanced scalpers use… hopefully we beat them to some tickets this year, and whatever we don’t use will go to deserving friends and family at face value.
AndrewJStone - February 20, 2009
I should have hired you

bheidge - February 20, 2009
I have no clue how this happened but I go t tix at 2:30 PM!
But I am an idiot and got tix for the Cards game on Sunday 4/19.
My gfs sister is getting married on 4/18 in Orlando.
I have 6 I will trade for 6 weekend bleachers later in the year to a comparable game.

got through finally
got upper deck reserved for myself on April 15th, Kinda mad that taxes and service fees cost more than the $9 ticket. Im going to buy the rest of my tickets on spur of the moment basis, except for my birthday game since its at the end of the season. I have much better luck getting them last minute anyways
truthaddict11 - February 20, 2009
how about in future years
having a lottery for the more high demand games like opening day or cubs/sox like what they did for the NLDS last season

success
had 1 game since noon today. then had 3 windows open almost simultaneously. so I got three more games.
St. Louis on first Sunday
Houston on Saturday in May
Philly on Thursday in August
Bleachers for Saturday on closing weekend vs. Arizona
this is by far the best I’ve ever done with this system. I have to thank the guys at the top with the CTRL click here link. worked perfectly.

Is my computer really the only one that works like this?
I got 14 games between 10am-1pm and had countless other windows get through that I didnt use. I called my uncle and he had not got through at all between 10-3. Did anyone else have an insane amount of windows open like I did and didnt get through a bunch of times? I would say I had 225 windows open….yeah im crazy but it worked!

That proves it really is totally random.
Al Yellon - February 20, 2009
I never got through
but only had about six windows which I could not keep track of. Luckily between friends with better computer skills and Mom with a decent wristband # I got what I needed.
Doggie Stalker - February 20, 2009

July 2, 3, 4 vs. Milwaukee – also going to check out the Taste of Chicago as well.

70's Night?
I apologize if this has been covered already, but does anyone know when 70’s night is for this season?
joz132 - February 20, 2009
It hasn't been scheduled yet.
Here’s the promotional schedule.
Al Yellon - February 20, 2009
Actually the Cubs are going to have a 70's AND 80's night - twice!
On July 16 and July 21 – Sir Elton John and Billy Joel will present the best of the 70’s and the worst of the 80’s…

ticket line story
I first waited in line all night when the bleacher tickets were $2.50. My brother was making a lot of money at the time, and I was trying to pay for college. The night was cold as hell, and exhaustive. Made many good freinds though, and we shared whiskey, rum, beer, and multiple trips to yum yum donuts.
I ended up getting 8 tickets to every game (there were four games that I only got 4 – cards). I lived on Addison near Lakewood that summer, attended nearly 50 games, and I think if given the chance, I would do it all again, divorce attorney on retainer.

Just got in from DC...
Did the recession hit the Cubs or we good?
Sorry if this is an ignorant question but I am jsut curious? I was able to post on my blackberry today in one thread but couldnt get thrrough this.
oT: I think i might have just got a real sick job in DC. I know i wont be able to go to rwrigley this yea……… FML. I just looked to see who the Cubs were playig on the 18th and 19th of JUly (DMB @ alpine my favorite two nights of the year) and really?? FML… I have never been so pissed. DMB in Mecca or Cubs games??? tripping Billies it is. hopefully. I really wish Daves wife wouldnt have goten knocked up so they would have played Wrigley. Would have been the best experience ever( fav. band in favorte place) I mean the sound has to suck yea? If i get this i might go to fenway to see DMB.

I had to be at school today...
So I left the ticket-buying duties up to my dad and brother, who performed very well.
We got:
White Sox
Cardinals
Dodgers (Sunday Night – bleachers)
2 Reds games (both bleachers)
Pirates (bleachers)
