It looks like he’s from ‘69-’71. And with the palm tree in the background, it’s a spring training photo. Also look at the huge chew he has in his mouth.
He has his own line of processed chicken. I bought some at a grocery store awhile back when I was visiting a friend. I thought it would be hilarious to bring some Dwight Yoakum’s Chicken Lickin’s Chicken Rings. They were the worst thing I had ever ate…until I tried the Dwight Yoakum’s Chicken Lickin’s Buffalo Style Bites…they were in the shape of a boot…………………..Not quite sure how the guys in that marketing department still have jobs.
Yeah, but heck for processed chicken I guess you can’t expect much. Poor guy, but the day he took off his hat — yeeech. Now we know why he always wore it, and maybe why he should get back in the habit.
Cubs management must have remembered this. Three years later they picked him from the Mets in the Rule 5 draft. But he pitched in only one Cubs game, on April 30, 1970.
1. Guess the year of the uniform
2. Look up roster and see who didn’t play much
3. Look up name w/ cubs on ebay or just the name itself
4. see if person looks remotely like picture above.
…the Waste Management Hall of Fame, but nonetheless…..
Jim Cosman started his career as a pitcher for the St. Louis Cardinals and Chicago Cubs before becoming a garbage truck driver for Browning Ferris Industries (BFI) in 1972. Within three years, he was a district manager. He oversaw BFI as it became the first publicly held company to enter New York City, and helped implement a strict environmental compliance program. In 1997, he became the president and chief operating offi cer for Republic Services, helping to grow the company from $611 million to $2.1 billion. Cosman retired in 2000 to open a consulting fi rm, Doing Things Better, and helped revamp Pittsburgh’s waste management program.
It's NOT Chuck Conners...

Al Yellon - February 4, 2009
His photos are awesome
I didn’t have time to reduce it to 72 dpi for the web.
Sorry for the hugeness.
Please, no TWSS.
flachimesa - February 4, 2009
I have a list of $800 worth of photos
That I want to buy from his collection. Every time I get some extra cash I pick up a few more.
gocubsgo22 - February 4, 2009
i can't even think of names
that weird patch of clavicle hair above the top button has me distracted
TC Cubby - February 4, 2009
Based on the uniform
It looks like he’s from ‘69-’71. And with the palm tree in the background, it’s a spring training photo. Also look at the huge chew he has in his mouth.
Mordecai - February 4, 2009
To me
It looks a bit like a very young and very svelte Rick Reuschel.
krummy12 - February 4, 2009
To Me
To me it looks more like a young Randy Hundly.
Jasely - February 4, 2009
Nope.
Al Yellon - February 4, 2009
Interesting.
But not true.
Al Yellon - February 4, 2009
Sorry
Sorry, Hundley. I spelled it wrong.
Jasely - February 4, 2009
Spelled right or wrong, it's still not him.
Al Yellon - February 4, 2009
Is that a young Joe Biden?
bren - February 4, 2009

But no.
Al Yellon - February 4, 2009
based on the chew
I go George Mitterwald
gocubsgo22 - February 4, 2009
Glenn Beckert?
derv - February 4, 2009
By the way
Who poses for their team photo and does not have time to remove their chew?
gocubsgo22 - February 4, 2009
Good question.
No, it’s not Mitterwald or Beckert.
Al Yellon - February 4, 2009
Figured it was too early for George
gocubsgo22 - February 4, 2009
Paul Reuschel?
deadcatbounce - February 4, 2009
Paul Reuschel...
… had a very distinctive look:
Al Yellon - February 4, 2009
Wow!...Honesty compels me to say,
you take away the glasses and mustache, and the similarity to Jim Cosman is uncanny.
deadcatbounce - February 4, 2009
Sammy Sosa?

Dwight Yoakum
Or his Father perhaps?
StevenABQ - February 4, 2009
ahahahahahaahahaaaaaaa....
yea, ugliest dude ever…not sure why women find him attractive…his dance moves are corny as hell too…that’s hilarious!
Lows05 - February 4, 2009
by the way...

Yuck
Yeah, but heck for processed chicken I guess you can’t expect much. Poor guy, but the day he took off his hat — yeeech. Now we know why he always wore it, and maybe why he should get back in the habit.
StevenABQ - February 4, 2009
Well, in Dwight's defense...
…it’s really hard to slaughter, pluck and process a chicken with that hat in your eyes.
daver - February 4, 2009
Frank Thomas (the cubs version)?
derv - February 4, 2009
Roe Skidmore?
carmen_fanzone - February 4, 2009
Roe Skidmore!
The last Cub to retire with a 1.000 BA (1-for-1).
Nope, it’s not him. Nor is it anyone else mentioned so far.
Al Yellon - February 4, 2009
Larry Gura
WhistlerWilliams
WhistlerWilliams - February 4, 2009
Nope.
Al Yellon - February 4, 2009
Jim Cosman?
carmen_fanzone - February 4, 2009
DINGDINGDING!
Winner.
In 1966, Cosman, recalled to the Cardinals, threw a 2-hit shutout vs. the Cubs on the last day of the season, the Cubs’ 103rd loss of the year, tying the team record.
Cubs management must have remembered this. Three years later they picked him from the Mets in the Rule 5 draft. But he pitched in only one Cubs game, on April 30, 1970.
Al Yellon - February 4, 2009
awesome! My system finally worked! Haha.
1. Guess the year of the uniform
2. Look up roster and see who didn’t play much
3. Look up name w/ cubs on ebay or just the name itself
4. see if person looks remotely like picture above.
carmen_fanzone - February 4, 2009
Well, item #4 won't work after today.
Nice guess, though.
Al Yellon - February 4, 2009
Why is that?
carmen_fanzone - February 4, 2009
Because if the player looks like the picture above
chances are it’s Jim Cosman and not the new player featured.
flachimesa - February 4, 2009
Ha. Yeah, good point.
Of course, I meant “current mystery Cub”.
carmen_fanzone - February 4, 2009
Great job!
I’m enjoying this feature.
It beats reading the rants and raves about Peavy, Pie, and Roberts every day.
I’m learning a lot about players I vaguely knew even played for the Cubs.
flachimesa - February 4, 2009
Totally agree
carmen_fanzone - February 4, 2009
Totally agree
Clutche - February 4, 2009
what, are the cubs
thinking about getting peavy?
or roberts?
hadn’t seen any rumors here.
tim815 - February 4, 2009
I heard that Pie may be the PTBNL in the Hill deal
from an very unreliable source
flachimesa - February 4, 2009
thats almost f'd up enough
to be true. :-P
halfblindcubbiegirl - February 4, 2009
Archie Reynolds?
carmen_fanzone - February 4, 2009
Think about who we are guessing?
Come on, this is the internet! I’m just upset someone got it before i had a chance to guess Milton Bradley.
dbaltman - February 4, 2009
I like this autograph on ebay....
“Keep smiling”…haha…what a happy guy Jim was.
carmen_fanzone - February 4, 2009
He was on a Cardinals Rookie Card, too
I wondered who is pictured the most times on different Rookie Cards from the same company (e.g., Topps)?
flachimesa - February 4, 2009
He like the smiley thing
flachimesa - February 4, 2009
Cosman is in the Hall of Fame......
…the Waste Management Hall of Fame, but nonetheless…..
carmen_fanzone - February 4, 2009
Oh, oh...you may have just started a "Where are They Now" segment
flachimesa - February 4, 2009
I'd love to somehow email these guys....
…and ask them what they remember about their very limited time with the Cubs. Interesting to me, at least.
carmen_fanzone - February 4, 2009
that would be cool
I bet you’d get some responses maybe even one of these from Jim :)
StevenABQ - February 4, 2009
So he went from throwing garbage in Chicago...
…to picking it up off the streets of New York.
GOOD GOD!
