every other pair of eyes here seems to agree with me. Im just going to go with your 15-16 years old and you think you are arguing with your mother or something and can not admit to being obviously wrong.
Games over anyway, at least I wont have to read another of your dumb posts.
Strangely I did that in a beer league playing softball last year. It is amazing how fast the ball can go flying over your head when you are moving towards it
Let’s take our best reliever (who is throwing well) out of the game for a pinch hitter who can’t hit with a runner on third and 1 out. Then let’s have that pinch hitter GIDP to end the inning. Now, we’ll go through like 5 guys for 2 outs before deciding to use our closer in a 4 out situation as opposed to the normal 3 out workload.
The Cubs had a ton of opportunities to score a lot of runs today. They were constantly ahead 3-1 in the count and did nothing ahead in the count. The brewers starter was throwing BP today and they did nothing against him. sad
Bad decision by Theriot and an error on his part in the 1st inning. The offense pissed away a ton of chances today. This was a team loss and unfortunately the pen was really taxed today.
Why the hell Soriano is still in the game? Fukudome is a better outfielder and can play the corners. Rule number one in the outfield, no ball goes over your head.
Soriano should have caught and should be catching more heat...
Why the hell Soriano is still in the game?
Because Soriano is “the best left-fielder in baseball.” Theriot catching a lot of heat here, but “the best left-fielder in baseball” should have caught that ball.
So, Soriano’s defensive defenders, how does that game changing misplay effect the defense stats you love so much?
… I claimed that Quentin was “the best left-fielder in MLB”
The principle in baseball is not to let the ball go over your head. That hit was clearly catchable and should have been caught. Instead, Soriano misread it and broke in, tried to hop & make up for it. No dice, double, tie game.
You must be waking up in horror watching Covelli Crisp circling the bases in your nightmares. A Crisp HR is far worse than Sori’s D or Gregg’s flameouts.
I meant what I said in your tribute to me sig line, but you’re not jus here to talk baseball when you do that.
And, if you are disappointed with the reception that you got at first, well, it was a tough loss for the Cubs today. Most fans aren’t going to be looking for commentary from fans of other teams; it’s going to be perceived as taunting – intended or otherwise.
My first post here was about baseball, in particular Soriano’s poor play that played a big part in the Cubs loss today. And that’s particularly relevant to me after a past discussion here about “Alfonso Soriano: most valuable defensive LF in baseball.”
isn’t exactly slow. but weeks IS fast. was watching on mlb.tv…looked to me like the dp could have been turned. no matter what decision theriot makes he should just do it…it looked like he changed his mind to go home at the last second and that was the difference there.
Piniella laving Soriano in to play left and taking out Fukudome was one of the least intelligent decisions I’ve seen in a while. Ryan Theriot throwing home on that play is THE least intelligent decision I have seen in a very long time. This loss is very worrisome because it did not show inept athletic ability. It showed a complete lack of awareness on both the players’ and manager’s parts.
If we have to sit threw a mismanaged season again like we did in 2004...
it is going to be a long summer. I am typically a huge piniella fan, but he really made some bad decisions today. Cubs were lucky that it didn’t catch up with them for so long.
not sure i agree with brenly that it was a tailor made DP
Theroit would have had to throw a rocket strike off balance to second and then have a quick relay turned. Sadly, that was one of the better defensive plays Ryan made all day, at least he stopped the ball
You mean the way he mismanaged the Cubs not being able to hit with RISP, or Neil Cotts being able to get ANYONE out! I’ll tell you what – if Cotts is our LHP answer it is going to be a long season for the bullpen. He is terrible. Other than Marmol, Heilman and Marshall I’d rate the rest of the bullpen as junk. The only thing that could have been pinned on Lou is if the game actually got to extra innings because he burned the entire pen.
We're allowed to piss and moan about losing a game we should have won...
it’s not ledge jumping. Nobody is saying the season is over. Let us have our pity party for this loss and we’ll come back for the next game ready to root for the Cubs to win again.
I don’t think anyone on this board hailed the move during the offseason. You know what you are getting with Gregg – Joe Borowski with a tinge more talent
The Cubs have such a strong lineup positionally that we get into this trap of thinking that we don’t really need a good SS or a better-fielding LF… We can get by without that, right? And yeah, if all Theriot did was execute plays and not do anything fancy fine. But when he goes and does what he did today… Ugh
I honestly thank Theriot got too excited/nervous/###tight and forgot how many outs there were when he saw Weeks start back to third and then stop and dash home.
Thankfully I don’t have to pay any of them to do anything, but yes I agree with you. I can’t pick out any specific plays right now, but I have noticed that when the action gets tight and the game requires quick thinking that Theriot tends to make really poor decisions or just plain bad plays.
Not making an excuse for him but was just trying to figure out the rationale for throwing home on that play, and after seeing the replay that’s the only thing I can come up with.
1. Kevin Gregg ain’t gonna cut it?
2. Lou is confused? how in the hell is Fukudome on the bench and Sori and Bradley in the OF in the 9th?
3. Ryan Theriot is a nice 2B……..absolutelt NOT a SS! That throw could have been made by high schoolers all over the area
Harden was absolutely dominant. 1 ER, a HR on a pitchers pitch. Fuke had another good day at the plate. Koyie HIll with some pop, and MB is off the schnide(sp?). Theriot has had better days, and Lou torched the bullpen, but Z is going tomorrow, Guzman and Patton are fresh, and Marmol only pitched 2/3 of an inning. The variables played tight today. Should Soriano have been in there for the 9th, maybe not. Theriot is a smart ballplayer, with minimal skills. Days like today happen to all players. I am more happy about Harden’s masterpiece than unhappy about losing the 4th game of the season.
I think Gregg will flame out under the pressure of the Cubs expectations. I think they will make a move for a closer before the break. Gregg is average at best. The Cubs will want the game over when the closer comes in and Gregg ain’t that guy. Just my opinion. And, no, it’s not based on his body of work as a Cub.
I actually think Hill wanted to throw the ball back at Theriot’s Head. He gave a half hearted protest to the ump. Lou looked like he was laughing in the dugout, but not in a good way.
Gregg 2008 was injured. I guess we’ll see, but I’m not ready to pull the plug now. Just like I wasn’t ready to pull the plug on Wood after the first month.
Was Lou trying to see how many pitchers he could go through?
I feel like that and those couple of boneheaded moves by Theriot wasted a brilliant start from Harden. Also could be problematic getting through the later innings in the rest of the series.
Wanna be a — baller, shot caller
Twenty inch blades — on the Impala
A caller gettin laid tonight
Swisher rolled tight, gotta sprayed by Ike
I hit the HIIIGHWAY, making money the FLYYYY WAY
But there’s got to be a BETT-ER WAYY!
A better way, better way, YEAH-AHHHH
I think you guys are being a bit too negative about Theriot's decision there at the end.
I still would’ve prefered that he tried for the double play, but I don’t think there is any way that Fontenot would’ve made the turn in time. He doesn’t have a laser beam arm, for one. And the play developed too slowly, given that Theriot was off-balance when he picked the ball up. I suspect that’s why Theriot just figured his only option was to go home.
Other snap-thought: There’s few things as maddening as watching a closer walk people; And Lou’s player management seemed bizarre today, even if some of the choices ended up not mattering;
All in all, the end of the game just ended up being FUBAR for the Cubs. That happens in baseball. Let’s not all hang ourselves over one game.
Admittedly no, just the bottom of the 9th. I guess what I'm saying is that on this one play
he did what he thought gave the Cubs the best chance to preserve the tie. Weeks had broken back to the bag. The play was in front of Ryan. He made a split second decision.
The order of operations when it comes to fixing what hasnt gone right in the first FOUR games of the season isnt benching Theriot, or trading for a SS, or bullpen help. In half of our games we have been stranding runners in scoring position. Lee hasnt hit, Bradley hasnt hit, and without Soto in the lineup for a little while. Our big boys will have to hit. They are 2 – 2. We lost both games because we didnt hit. That DP by Miles was had as much to do with this loss as Theriot’s botched play. It happens. Lou has always made certain that they straighten things out. No matter how much you want to bash him for the decisions he made today, he always figures it out.
to win this one, just didn’t get it done today. Very encouraged with the way Harden pitched, I think we have the best starting staff in the National League. Poor defense and lack of timely hitting beat them today. Gregg has been lousy so far; I didn’t expect much out of him personally, but I guess time will tell whether he can do the job or not; it’s still early.
Some of you seem surprised that Theriot has a weak arm. Cmon, we all knew that. This was a team loss. The offense should have put 5 of 6 on the board. Relievers can’t walk so many, especially Duffy. If this is the Harden we have all year, we are in business. Let’s get the next two and win the series. And if the Brewers think they are going to wiin with Looper and Suppan, they are wrong.

i have to disagree
that was a hard it ball, it just went over his head.

You missed it
you said it yourself.
Rudey - April 10, 2009
i didnt
see him mess up the play, because he didn’t.
tizzle - April 10, 2009
if anything
Theriot messed it up by dropping the relay.
tizzle - April 10, 2009
Yep everyone here saw it but you
Im not gonna argue with the one wrong/blind kid on the board.
Rudey - April 10, 2009

sue369 - April 10, 2009
hehe
every other pair of eyes here seems to agree with me. Im just going to go with your 15-16 years old and you think you are arguing with your mother or something and can not admit to being obviously wrong.
Games over anyway, at least I wont have to read another of your dumb posts.
Rudey - April 10, 2009
HAHA
15 or 16? nice try, go cry over the loss, I’m sick of listening to you.

Can we get a rec on this post?
I just enjoyed a good chuckle, and want to look back on this every once in awhile for a good laugh.
Rudey - April 10, 2009
I dont even care anymore
about your dumb immature posts. Just please do me a favor and rewind the game and watch Fonzie’s play.
You dont even have to come back and tell me im wrong, I just want you to see what small thing you made grow because you simply “could not be wrong”.
Rudey - April 10, 2009
I didn't
let it grow, i simply stated my opinion, and I was attacked for doing it.
tizzle - April 10, 2009
parading around about how "right"
you are usually gets people on your case.
halfblindcubbiegirl - April 10, 2009
So
why is nobody on everyone elses case? They are doing the same thing.
tizzle - April 10, 2009
nobody else is claiming to be so right....
while being so wrong.
santoswoodenlegs - April 10, 2009

don't be an ass while you disagree

halfblindcubbiegirl - April 10, 2009

Accept that we don’t agree with you and let’s leave it at that.
santoswoodenlegs - April 10, 2009

Strangely I did that in a beer league playing softball last year. It is amazing how fast the ball can go flying over your head when you are moving towards it

It all started with the 8th
Let’s take our best reliever (who is throwing well) out of the game for a pinch hitter who can’t hit with a runner on third and 1 out. Then let’s have that pinch hitter GIDP to end the inning. Now, we’ll go through like 5 guys for 2 outs before deciding to use our closer in a 4 out situation as opposed to the normal 3 out workload.
Hilary Lee - April 10, 2009
And you'd be the first guy complaining
about Marmol being overworked. Right?
Not Bruce Froemming - April 10, 2009
of course
The players have not done their part today. The Cubs should have 8 runs right now. This is on the team

Oh wait…the sign he DID give him Theriot missed. Huh.
santoswoodenlegs - April 10, 2009
disagree
The Cubs had a ton of opportunities to score a lot of runs today. They were constantly ahead 3-1 in the count and did nothing ahead in the count. The brewers starter was throwing BP today and they did nothing against him. sad
dmlichte - April 10, 2009
Nice job today Theriot......
Lou In Blue - April 10, 2009
I can't decide who I'm angrier at...
Lou with his ridiculous moves today
or
Theriot with his error, missing hit-and-run sign, dropping pop-up, throwing home in a DP situation.
Hilary Lee - April 10, 2009
I believe there is enough anger for both.
slcathena - April 10, 2009
No question it's Lou
Clutche - April 10, 2009
Team loss
Bad decision by Theriot and an error on his part in the 1st inning. The offense pissed away a ton of chances today. This was a team loss and unfortunately the pen was really taxed today.

Lets go get ’em tomorrow
Lou In Blue - April 10, 2009
So Theriot's ERA
is 2?
halfblindcubbiegirl - April 10, 2009
Can someone explain to me
Why the hell Soriano is still in the game? Fukudome is a better outfielder and can play the corners. Rule number one in the outfield, no ball goes over your head.
cubfred - April 10, 2009
late game OF should be
Reed in LF
Gath in CF
Fuku in RF
Cubbie-Tim - April 10, 2009
Soriano should have caught and should be catching more heat...
Because Soriano is “the best left-fielder in baseball.” Theriot catching a lot of heat here, but “the best left-fielder in baseball” should have caught that ball.
So, Soriano’s defensive defenders, how does that game changing misplay effect the defense stats you love so much?
DrCrawdad - April 10, 2009
that was a tough play
Quentin wouldnt have got it
bheidge - April 10, 2009
You'd have a point, IF...
… I claimed that Quentin was “the best left-fielder in MLB”
The principle in baseball is not to let the ball go over your head. That hit was clearly catchable and should have been caught. Instead, Soriano misread it and broke in, tried to hop & make up for it. No dice, double, tie game.
Wear it Soriano!
DrCrawdad - April 10, 2009
why?
why do you feel the need to stir it up? Go post about Coco Crisp taking Jenks deep.
socalbob - April 10, 2009
Why?
When I can talk about the Brewers taking Gregg down (Gregg, who’s now had his hand in both Cub losses).
DrCrawdad - April 10, 2009
now
pile on. I already did.
You must be waking up in horror watching Covelli Crisp circling the bases in your nightmares. A Crisp HR is far worse than Sori’s D or Gregg’s flameouts.
socalbob - April 10, 2009
No, I've got ...
… this to comfort me and this to keep you up all night.
DrCrawdad - April 10, 2009
nicely played
but not accurate. That’s just the hope of all Sox fans.
Co-Co Co-Co Co-Co
Could be the start of a “Coco Candy Bar” in KC honoring their division title win with the Sox finishing in 4th place.
socalbob - April 10, 2009
Inaccurate?
Fine. But as you I’ve seen my team go 11-1 in the post-season and seen yours lose 9 straight.
DrCrawdad - April 10, 2009
inaccurate because
I don’t care that you won. And I don’t care that I haven’t enjoyed a win.
I care about this year. BTW—didn’t the D Rays boat race you last year coming off of your stellar 90 loss season in 2007? 11-1 I think not.
Shouldn’t you be watching the Sox versus Twins right now instead of posting on a Cubs site?
socalbob - April 10, 2009
Yeah, right...
BULL (FECES)!
2005 the World Champion White Sox went 11-1 in the post-season (including a sweep of the NL pennant winner).
You know you watched it. And I’ll forever cherish it and rub in the face of Cubbie fans like you.
DrCrawdad - April 10, 2009
Now, why do you have to be like that?
I meant what I said in your tribute to me sig line, but you’re not jus here to talk baseball when you do that.
And, if you are disappointed with the reception that you got at first, well, it was a tough loss for the Cubs today. Most fans aren’t going to be looking for commentary from fans of other teams; it’s going to be perceived as taunting – intended or otherwise.
Shanghai Badger - April 10, 2009
Talking baseball
My first post here was about baseball, in particular Soriano’s poor play that played a big part in the Cubs loss today. And that’s particularly relevant to me after a past discussion here about “Alfonso Soriano: most valuable defensive LF in baseball.”
DrCrawdad - April 10, 2009
Have they mentioned why he didnt go to second
louslovechild - April 10, 2009
Because
Ryan. Theriot. Sucks.
halfblindcubbiegirl - April 10, 2009
I get that, but was there a real reason, was the runner off with the pitch?
louslovechild - April 10, 2009
Nope
Riot decided to make a bad, off balance throw home instead of taking it around for the double play.
halfblindcubbiegirl - April 10, 2009
I just rewound the dvr
easy DP. That is crazy.
louslovechild - April 10, 2009
no way thats an easy DP
bheidge - April 10, 2009
for Theriot....
for an actual ML SS….it is.
santoswoodenlegs - April 10, 2009
Agreed completely
halfblindcubbiegirl - April 10, 2009
i dont know
his momentum was going the wrong way, lot of things would have had to happen to turn that DP
bheidge - April 10, 2009
The first of which would have been...
to make the decision to throw the ball to Fontenot instead of trying to gun down the fastest guy on the other team running home.
santoswoodenlegs - April 10, 2009
fuck
this loss is on the damn bullpen that couldnt find the strikezone
bheidge - April 10, 2009
Well
Hart wasnt even close to 2B, and Braun isnt Rickey Henderson. Inning ending DP is better option than trying to nail Weeks at Home. Just a bad move.
louslovechild - April 10, 2009
braun
isn’t exactly slow. but weeks IS fast. was watching on mlb.tv…looked to me like the dp could have been turned. no matter what decision theriot makes he should just do it…it looked like he changed his mind to go home at the last second and that was the difference there.

slcathena - April 10, 2009
Piniella laving Soriano in to play left and taking out Fukudome was one of the least intelligent decisions I’ve seen in a while. Ryan Theriot throwing home on that play is THE least intelligent decision I have seen in a very long time. This loss is very worrisome because it did not show inept athletic ability. It showed a complete lack of awareness on both the players’ and manager’s parts.
murphymj - April 10, 2009

Canadian Cubs Fan - April 10, 2009
I really don't think
Anybody could have caught that, unless they were standing on the warning track at the time.
The relievers played too much with fire today, too many walks. It bit them in the end.
Not Bruce Froemming - April 10, 2009

halfblindcubbiegirl - April 10, 2009

Emelie - April 10, 2009

it is going to be a long summer. I am typically a huge piniella fan, but he really made some bad decisions today. Cubs were lucky that it didn’t catch up with them for so long.
murphymj - April 10, 2009
Please list what they were
I’m eager to hear this.
Not Bruce Froemming - April 10, 2009
not sure i agree with brenly that it was a tailor made DP
Theroit would have had to throw a rocket strike off balance to second and then have a quick relay turned. Sadly, that was one of the better defensive plays Ryan made all day, at least he stopped the ball
BeltwayCubsFan - April 10, 2009
what? you are kidding right?
cubsnlinux - April 10, 2009
We are 2-2
lets put this game out of our minds. Its obvious we are a much better team out there then the Brewers and it will show over a full regular season.
See ya guys later. Enjoy the rest of your day.
Rudey - April 10, 2009
Correct
And the Cubs’ No. 1 pitcher is going against the Crew’s No. 5 tomorrow.

mismanaged?
You mean the way he mismanaged the Cubs not being able to hit with RISP, or Neil Cotts being able to get ANYONE out! I’ll tell you what – if Cotts is our LHP answer it is going to be a long season for the bullpen. He is terrible. Other than Marmol, Heilman and Marshall I’d rate the rest of the bullpen as junk. The only thing that could have been pinned on Lou is if the game actually got to extra innings because he burned the entire pen.
BeltwayCubsFan - April 10, 2009
Guzman
Looked pretty good the other night
Hilary Lee - April 10, 2009
Time for Marmol yet?
Heilman and Gregg dont exactly inspire confidence
bren - April 10, 2009
Marmol saved the game once
LOU yanked him when he should’ve stuck with him.
halfblindcubbiegirl - April 10, 2009
Exactly
Clutche - April 10, 2009
It's only game 4...
would you people quit tap dancing on the ledge…
atleast wait til after the damned All-Star Game is over… sheesh
Endrick - April 10, 2009
Not on the ledge
just tempted to throw theriot off it.
halfblindcubbiegirl - April 10, 2009
CaliCub - April 10, 2009
ha ha ha..
cubsnlinux - April 10, 2009
We're allowed to piss and moan about losing a game we should have won...
it’s not ledge jumping. Nobody is saying the season is over. Let us have our pity party for this loss and we’ll come back for the next game ready to root for the Cubs to win again.
santoswoodenlegs - April 10, 2009
Amen
Hilary Lee - April 10, 2009
Gregg isn't a surprise
I don’t think anyone on this board hailed the move during the offseason. You know what you are getting with Gregg – Joe Borowski with a tinge more talent
BeltwayCubsFan - April 10, 2009
Well
that sure sucked some ass…
Cubbinstrongsince86 - April 10, 2009
Great offseason move in letting go of Wood for Gregg
Guy can’t make it out of an inning without giving up a run, also nice to have a shortstop who has a weaker arm than most little leaguers
CubsBall2202 - April 10, 2009
Impromptu poll...
is tizzle right? Yes or No?
santoswoodenlegs - April 10, 2009
Trick question
the answer is always Ditka.
Wait. What?

NO
sue369 - April 10, 2009
ROFL
Emelie - April 10, 2009
can complain about pitching and D all day long
But 3 runs of offense against mediocre pitching is not going to get it done.
BeltwayCubsFan - April 10, 2009
but today...it should have.
santoswoodenlegs - April 10, 2009
+1
Braden Looper was throwing batting practice today and the Cubs were swinging at 3-1 pitches and popping them up.
dmlichte - April 10, 2009
You should be able to win with 3 runs
when you only give up 2 earned.
the other 2 are on Theriot’s ERA
halfblindcubbiegirl - April 10, 2009
i dont know what to say about theriot
he can hit but he can not field. he looks like a smart baseball player but he’s not…
lexmarklover - April 10, 2009
Lemme help you find the words...
Ryan. Theriot. Sucks.
santoswoodenlegs - April 10, 2009
and he always gets caught stealing
CaliCub - April 10, 2009
The problem is
The Cubs have such a strong lineup positionally that we get into this trap of thinking that we don’t really need a good SS or a better-fielding LF… We can get by without that, right? And yeah, if all Theriot did was execute plays and not do anything fancy fine. But when he goes and does what he did today… Ugh
Hilary Lee - April 10, 2009
should have kept
Izturis?
bheidge - April 10, 2009
He's worse than Theriot...no way.
santoswoodenlegs - April 10, 2009
Orlando Cabrerra was available the entire offseason.
santoswoodenlegs - April 10, 2009
i seen him duff an easy play last night
and he wasnt worth the draft pick
bheidge - April 10, 2009
I think the saying goes
played like they were waiting to get beat.
Cubbinstrongsince86 - April 10, 2009
not the best game
let’s hope everyone learns from it. let’s get em tomorrow. cubinator out.
Cubinator - April 10, 2009
Lou needs to leave playing Match Game to Charles Nelson Reilly
His fixation on righty-lefty matchups ends up painting him into a corner.
CaliCub - April 10, 2009
Well
so far the only new guy that has impressed with is Milton.
Miles, Heilmann, Gregg…..ugh.
bheidge - April 10, 2009
I honestly thank Theriot got too excited/nervous/###tight and forgot how many outs there were when he saw Weeks start back to third and then stop and dash home.
Villeslgr - April 10, 2009
And we pay him to do this?
Hilary Lee - April 10, 2009
Thankfully I don’t have to pay any of them to do anything, but yes I agree with you. I can’t pick out any specific plays right now, but I have noticed that when the action gets tight and the game requires quick thinking that Theriot tends to make really poor decisions or just plain bad plays.
Villeslgr - April 10, 2009
Which is indicative of a bad baseball player that shouldn't be a SS.
santoswoodenlegs - April 10, 2009
agreed
Villeslgr - April 10, 2009
This isn't little league
Clutche - April 10, 2009
Not making an excuse for him but was just trying to figure out the rationale for throwing home on that play, and after seeing the replay that’s the only thing I can come up with.
Villeslgr - April 10, 2009
nicey
lexmarklover - April 10, 2009
You can't explain dumb.
santoswoodenlegs - April 10, 2009
although i guess it wasn’t really rational on his part
Villeslgr - April 10, 2009
That'd be an excuse once
but if you can’t focus after the series of bonehead plays he had today…
halfblindcubbiegirl - April 10, 2009
nicey
lexmarklover - April 10, 2009
do what?
halfblindcubbiegirl - April 10, 2009
it's an asian thing
lexmarklover - April 10, 2009
okay
i’ve never seen that before.. i thought it was a typo or smething but then i saw it above too.. figured it didn’t hurt to ask. :-)
halfblindcubbiegirl - April 10, 2009
I’m confused.
Villeslgr - April 10, 2009
isn't that great how the cubs have 2 errors
and ryan theriot has both of them…
lexmarklover - April 10, 2009
Only thing to do
is get the tomorrow. I have bathrooms to clean and floors to scrub. Hang tough Cub fans.
sue369 - April 10, 2009
It's what
being a Cubs fan is about isn’t it? Taking out our frustrations on soap scum and mildew…
Hilary Lee - April 10, 2009
Pretty much... lol
sue369 - April 10, 2009
Man, I hate the Brewers.
A lot.
ScottieG33 - April 10, 2009
Have we seen enough to say
1. Kevin Gregg ain’t gonna cut it?
2. Lou is confused? how in the hell is Fukudome on the bench and Sori and Bradley in the OF in the 9th?
3. Ryan Theriot is a nice 2B……..absolutelt NOT a SS! That throw could have been made by high schoolers all over the area
plenz - April 10, 2009
I thought Gregg was servicable
he got the hard ground ball, didn’t he?
halfblindcubbiegirl - April 10, 2009
he walked
duffy to get to the top of the order………
bheidge - April 10, 2009
the walk
really pissed Lou off…….as it should have
plenz - April 10, 2009
well yeah
but he was servicable. or at least survivable.
but i’m not going to write him off yet
halfblindcubbiegirl - April 10, 2009
me either
not a good start though
bheidge - April 10, 2009
and got out of the 8th.
Which he did by not letting them hit the ball to Theriot.
santoswoodenlegs - April 10, 2009
1. Let’s not be too rash yet.
2. Lou is strange sometimes.
3. yes.
santoswoodenlegs - April 10, 2009
Wonder what you all thought about Wood
After his first couple of games as closer. I think I remember the answers being eerily similar to what they are now.
After four games, we have NOT seen enough.
Not Bruce Froemming - April 10, 2009
very true
tizzle - April 10, 2009
your're wrong.
kidding!
santoswoodenlegs - April 10, 2009
not basing my thoughts on Gregg
on our 4 games, but his body of work last year as well. Just not overly impressed.
socalbob - April 10, 2009
we (about 90%) have said Kevin Gregg wasn’t going to cut it
Lou is Lou.
socalbob - April 10, 2009
I like Lou
but sometimes I think he’s a step from altzheimers
plenz - April 10, 2009
regardless of what happened today
gregg as closer is the right thing to do.
lexmarklover - April 10, 2009
And the tasty way to do it!
Goodie1969 - April 10, 2009
Well I am going to go positive
Harden was absolutely dominant. 1 ER, a HR on a pitchers pitch. Fuke had another good day at the plate. Koyie HIll with some pop, and MB is off the schnide(sp?). Theriot has had better days, and Lou torched the bullpen, but Z is going tomorrow, Guzman and Patton are fresh, and Marmol only pitched 2/3 of an inning. The variables played tight today. Should Soriano have been in there for the 9th, maybe not. Theriot is a smart ballplayer, with minimal skills. Days like today happen to all players. I am more happy about Harden’s masterpiece than unhappy about losing the 4th game of the season.
louslovechild - April 10, 2009
nicey
harden was nicey today
lexmarklover - April 10, 2009
Nicey??
louslovechild - April 10, 2009

Villeslgr - April 10, 2009
very nicey
everything else suckey’d though

aside from being an asian thing, wtf does NICEY mean?
halfblindcubbiegirl - April 10, 2009
NICEY = Nice intelligent comment earned yeas
lexmarklover - April 10, 2009
Okay...
halfblindcubbiegirl - April 10, 2009

an “earned yeah” is like a +1
Hilary Lee - April 10, 2009
exactly
lexmarklover - April 10, 2009
OKay
why couldn’t we have just said that?
halfblindcubbiegirl - April 10, 2009
NICEY needs to be understood
not taken advantage of

lexmarklover - April 10, 2009
that may just be
the stupidest thing I have ever heard
bheidge - April 10, 2009
NICEY
lexmarklover - April 10, 2009
Agreed
Harden allayed a lot of fears today.
The Cubs will win a few games like this, too. Remember that.
Not Bruce Froemming - April 10, 2009
i nicey all you offer?
Clutche - April 10, 2009
Error!
santoswoodenlegs - April 10, 2009
He is. When is lack of talent comes shining through, it is explained as stupidity.
louslovechild - April 10, 2009
maybe
but he can’t be a SS
plenz - April 10, 2009
I think at the trade deadline
we will be looking for a SS or bullpen help, and not Starting Pitching (Peavy)
bheidge - April 10, 2009
yup
plenz - April 10, 2009
yep
I see the Cubs going after a closer before the break.
socalbob - April 10, 2009
Huh?
You don’t really mean that, do you?
Not Bruce Froemming - April 10, 2009
I do
I think Gregg will flame out under the pressure of the Cubs expectations. I think they will make a move for a closer before the break. Gregg is average at best. The Cubs will want the game over when the closer comes in and Gregg ain’t that guy. Just my opinion. And, no, it’s not based on his body of work as a Cub.
socalbob - April 10, 2009
billy wagner
might be available. i think i read somewhere the mets already told him they’re not interested in resigning him.
Cubinator - April 10, 2009
assuming he comes back from injury ok that is
Cubinator - April 10, 2009
he had TJ surgery
he’s gone for a while. and old.
halfblindcubbiegirl - April 10, 2009
he's already throwing
here in VA
Cubinator - April 10, 2009
LOLZ
I must say though that koyie hill throwing the ball after weeks was called safe was maybe the funniest thing ive ever seen ever
lexmarklover - April 10, 2009
I actually think Hill wanted to throw the ball back at Theriot’s Head. He gave a half hearted protest to the ump. Lou looked like he was laughing in the dugout, but not in a good way.
Villeslgr - April 10, 2009
besides weeks enormous ass?
bheidge - April 10, 2009
I guess. Looked like a what the ###### are you thinking moment and he had to throw the ball somewhere.
Villeslgr - April 10, 2009
knowing Lou
he’s calling Jimbo now telling him to find a SS
plenz - April 10, 2009
could be happening
another game or two like this and I’d bet the farm that Lou has that conversation.
socalbob - April 10, 2009
where's the Singletary
sound bite, “Can’t Win With Him!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Can’t do it!!!!!!!!!” Applies to this situation here.
socalbob - April 10, 2009
but a good way to throw a shoulder out
Clutche - April 10, 2009
Bullpen already in shambles
Gregg is this years Bob Howry. I can’t even think how bad he’s going to be later in the season after many appearances.
propheteer - April 10, 2009
no hes not
lexmarklover - April 10, 2009
overreact to 3 outings much?
wow.
halfblindcubbiegirl - April 10, 2009
gotta disagree
2 shaky games do not a season make.
Cubinator - April 10, 2009
His body of work
before getting here is not much better; i’m not basing it off three appearances.
propheteer - April 10, 2009
What the devil are you talking about?
The bullpen is in shambles? After four games?
You do know that isn’t the first time a team has blown a save in the ninth inning, right?
I think the bullpen’s done rather well, all things considered.
When other fans say Cubs fans are ignorant, it’s hard to refute that when you consider some posts.
Not Bruce Froemming - April 10, 2009
yep
you are included in your own assessment
socalbob - April 10, 2009
As if on cue ...
So you agree with this “brilliant” assessment? I guess that makes you a brainiac, too.
Not Bruce Froemming - April 10, 2009
NICEY
lexmarklover - April 10, 2009
yep
you said so yourself. You are the smartest guy here apparently. Don’t displocate your shoulder patting yourself on the back.
socalbob - April 10, 2009
A little early for the brain stems to be checking in
But there you go. Why do you even bother to watch the game?
Not Bruce Froemming - April 10, 2009
really?
watch the game because I want to see the Cubs win. Don’t you watch for that reason?
socalbob - April 10, 2009
Of course
But I’m not going to jump off the ledge after 2 percent of the season has been played.
Not Bruce Froemming - April 10, 2009
not jumping off the ledge
just saying Gregg is not the answer—and it is the same position I had when they acquired him. Didn’t like him in FLA and don’t care for him now.
I do hope he converts 45 consecutive saves though.
socalbob - April 10, 2009
Gregg 2007 I'll take
Gregg 2008 was injured. I guess we’ll see, but I’m not ready to pull the plug now. Just like I wasn’t ready to pull the plug on Wood after the first month.
Not Bruce Froemming - April 10, 2009
Hey there's only one thing to say about this game
Mages for life
lexmarklover - April 10, 2009
Was Lou trying to see how many pitchers he could go through?
I feel like that and those couple of boneheaded moves by Theriot wasted a brilliant start from Harden. Also could be problematic getting through the later innings in the rest of the series.
rea5661 - April 10, 2009
MAGES FOR LIFE
lexmarklover - April 10, 2009
Okay
Have no idea what this one means

lexmarklover - April 10, 2009
nicey
Clutche - April 10, 2009
Well
that game sucked.
The Anti-Theriot bandwagon boomed. And Lou apparently forgot that he longer has 900 pitchers who need game time. Great.
And now its dinner time. Later, everyone.
halfblindcubbiegirl - April 10, 2009
I think you guys are being a bit too negative about Theriot's decision there at the end.
I still would’ve prefered that he tried for the double play, but I don’t think there is any way that Fontenot would’ve made the turn in time. He doesn’t have a laser beam arm, for one. And the play developed too slowly, given that Theriot was off-balance when he picked the ball up. I suspect that’s why Theriot just figured his only option was to go home.
Other snap-thought: There’s few things as maddening as watching a closer walk people; And Lou’s player management seemed bizarre today, even if some of the choices ended up not mattering;
All in all, the end of the game just ended up being FUBAR for the Cubs. That happens in baseball. Let’s not all hang ourselves over one game.
CubsWin!Oregon - April 10, 2009
Relax. Better to find out the problems now. Win tomorrow. Then the Cubs are 3-2.
Win 3 out of every 5 games this season through 160 games and you go 96-64. That’s a virtual lock on the playoffs.
Zeke - April 10, 2009
good point
but lost games in April count the same as a loss in Sept and they had no business losing this game.
I’ll still take 96 wins.
socalbob - April 10, 2009
And I think Theriot made the only play he had...
This loss was not his fault…
Zeke - April 10, 2009
Did you see the rest of the game?
halfblindcubbiegirl - April 10, 2009
Admittedly no, just the bottom of the 9th. I guess what I'm saying is that on this one play
he did what he thought gave the Cubs the best chance to preserve the tie. Weeks had broken back to the bag. The play was in front of Ryan. He made a split second decision.
Zeke - April 10, 2009
if that were the only brainfart he'd had today
you could give him a pass… but it was at least the 3rd.
halfblindcubbiegirl - April 10, 2009
4th actually
Hilary Lee - April 10, 2009
But he's got to make a better throw home!
That was a weak one hopper that didn’t give Hill a chance.
Itchy - April 10, 2009
True. I'm sure he'd have preferred to make a better throw.
Zeke - April 10, 2009
NICE
lexmarklover - April 10, 2009
shit i mean NICEY
lexmarklover - April 10, 2009
GUYS CALM DOWN
The Cubs are HOT SHIT this year
lexmarklover - April 10, 2009
Scoring opportunities
The order of operations when it comes to fixing what hasnt gone right in the first FOUR games of the season isnt benching Theriot, or trading for a SS, or bullpen help. In half of our games we have been stranding runners in scoring position. Lee hasnt hit, Bradley hasnt hit, and without Soto in the lineup for a little while. Our big boys will have to hit. They are 2 – 2. We lost both games because we didnt hit. That DP by Miles was had as much to do with this loss as Theriot’s botched play. It happens. Lou has always made certain that they straighten things out. No matter how much you want to bash him for the decisions he made today, he always figures it out.
louslovechild - April 10, 2009
Hurrah!
A sane post. Very well done. I agree 100 percent.
A little timely hitting cures everything.
Not Bruce Froemming - April 10, 2009
why didn't Hoffpauir
PH instead of Miles, in your opinion. I hated to have Miles up in an RBI situation. That’s the only thing to question for in-game strategy today.
socalbob - April 10, 2009
Actually, I agree with you
That’s about the only 50-50 call I thought there was today.
Not Bruce Froemming - April 10, 2009
A lot of chances
to win this one, just didn’t get it done today. Very encouraged with the way Harden pitched, I think we have the best starting staff in the National League. Poor defense and lack of timely hitting beat them today. Gregg has been lousy so far; I didn’t expect much out of him personally, but I guess time will tell whether he can do the job or not; it’s still early.
qccub - April 10, 2009
Alot of overreacting for game 4.
