One of the greatest series in Cubs history

Right up there with the epic 5-gamer in September 2003 between the Cubs and the Cardinals. The entire 2008 season turned on those four games in Milwaukee in July.

Not true.

Looper is the epitome of mediocre. A 4 career ERA, a ERA+ of a shade above 100, and bounces around with plenty of NL teams. I think the Brewers are in trouble: Looper is the #4 right now, but I don’t really see Parra AND Gallardo staying healthy the entire season, and Looper is not a good #3 or #2 if someone gets injured. Kinda sad for a guy that was a #3 overall pick.

That's why the Brewers will struggle.

Even if Gallardo is healthy all year, they have him and basically four Suppans.

I think we are really gonna be set up for a good mid-season trade.

We have 7-9 legit starters and other teams have difficulties finding 4. Just two teams off the top of my head—the Brewers and the Royals—have nothing for a #5 (the Royals are using SIDNEY PONSON!). The Cubs, meanwhile, are in a comfort zone with enough safety nets if Harden or others get injured that we don’t have to go into FREAKOUT! mode right away.

Our five in the rotation plus: Gaudin, Shark, Marshall makes 8. I didn’t say 7-9 aces, I said 7-9 legit starters. Not trying to argue the merits of their starting pitching abilities, just that we appear to have a surplus of arms, whereas other teams do not. A useful surplus later in the season, me thinks.

But I don’t think Parra’s got the stuff or the makeup to be more than a journeyman. I’m no expert, of course . . . .

I think barring a surprise or two in the rotation and a trade, the Brewers hang on only to about mid-August until they’re out of contention. Which is too bad, because it can be a lot of fun for those of us between Milwaukee and Chicago when both are in it (more fun when the Cubs win).

They have literally no pitching once you get past Yovani Gallardo. And Ryan Braun needs to be moved to 1st base and Rickie Weeks to the outfield.

Brewers have little chance of signing him to a long-term contract. The smart move would have been to trade Fielder to an American League team or San Francisco for pitching.

And the other pisser for the Brewers is that the Milwaukee area economy has been particularly hard hit

So a ballclub with no pitching and a bad economy will probably equal a big downturn in attendance, which will in turn lead to a likely need to shave payroll. Personally, I think the Brewers made a few bad strategic moves the last year. First and foremost was trading Fielder at the zenith of his value to the Brewers because he is as good as gone once he hits free agency.

I’m thinking about getting it and I don’t know if it’s any good. I already have the magazine, but I don’t feel comfortable putting my credit card in. Do they charge you anymore if you put it in and still have the magazine?

that if you subscribed to the magazine, you got Insider free. I know the reverse is true—I signed up for insider and get the magazine for free.

I think the magazine is a waste of paper, but the insider has a lot of good information. I enjoy reading Neyer They just added a MLB draft blog too. I also read a lot of the college football recruiting information.

Is that worth $40 a year? Dunno, but if you like the magazine, I can’t imagine not getting the insider.
