Today's high in Tucson is 82

Makes me cold just looking at these pictures.

Sigh. 82.

It might be 82 here by June.

Sox

White Sox postponed today. Too bad so sad.

Ahem.

Actually I only care

I only care because we’ll probably get 4 hrs of Boers and Bernstein on the Score.

Rumor has it that there are other radio stations in Chicago
Also, all of my radios have an "off" option . . .
actually

I don’t care either way.

Yuppers.

In fact, they only exist in my mind cos they’re my brother’s team.

Same here

If they aren’t in the NL Central or playing someone from the NL Central, I’m not too concerned with whether a team wins or loses.

I only care

during those few days in June when we play them

And I was just outside near some holly bushes

The bumblebees were happily buzzing around on a nectar hunt. If I’d had a decent camera along (phone is terrible for up-close work), I’d have taken a shot and posted it to let y’all know that spring weather is just around the corner. Even for you guys.

Drainage system...

Working well if all that water was gone by gametime.

Yes, although...

… I did see a couple players slip.

Rockies CFer took a nice slide.
Which basement on Waveland gets that water?
Kind of odd question for Al

And you know I never ask odd questions.

But right as they were starting to get stuff going and the tarp was gone a Cub came out ran all the way to the right field line and ran back. Couldn’t tell for sure who it was because he had his jacket on. Looked kind of big for Lilly.

Didn't see.

RF line is kind of far from my seat.

Lilly

Always runs the entire length of the bleachers before a start. I cant verify that was him for sure from where I was sitting but more than likely that’s who it was. I dont know anyone else who does the exact same thing.

I can verify it was him.

I’m not sure if that’s what she’s asking though.

Second that...

Two rows back behind the home dugout; he ran right past me.

That is

That is what I was asking. I thought it was Lilly but for some reason I thought he looked different.

Of course from where I was sitting I could see him less clearly than Al.

Thanks!

he was wearing

a body muffler.

?

"I don't think he's as stupid as he's acting"

“No one’s as stupid as he’s acting”

Which story?

City of Death.

With John Cleese as an extra, IIRC.

I was section 201.

There were hardly any people around before the game started, so I moved down to the railing right by the bartman seat. It was definitely him.

Why so much standing water on the field with the drainage system?

I know there are drains in the outfield, but I thought a lot of water was supposed to drain through the multiple sub-surfaces.

I think that was from the tarp

Even with a drainage system it would probably take some time for the water to seep through.

Why can't they unfold the tarp to dump the water in foul territory?
My Guess

I dont think there is enough room in foul territory to flip over the tarp the way they do in left field.

It is all the water

that collected on top of the tarp. They then use squeegee type things to push the extra water into the drains

Right.

In the past, that water just sat there. Yesterday, it drained out in about 20 minutes with the squeegees.

are those squeegee things

the same kind they use on tennis courts? i’m kind of amazed, never seen someone squeegee grass before.

They were large rubber rollers. The were rolling the water way to the drains
I was surprised that the "Budweiser House"...

…removed the windows from the attic. Anyone know what the Horseshoe Casino is paying those guys for the new ad space.

Furthermore, why was the Drinkability only up for a few months?

I heard something interesting

Anyone else hear this?

The same people from Colorado who were bemoaning the loss of Cutler told me the word out there is Hendry decided to fire Baker and hire Pinella by mid-2006 and decided not to fire Baker until end of season since he knew who he wanted and Lou wasn’t interested in taking over mid season.

"Hendry decided to fire Baker and hire Pinella by mid-2006"

that sounds really obvious. Why do you think it is interesting? Am I missing something here?

How would they know that?

Apparently they were talking on local sports radio about the Cubs before the series over the weekend,

I kind of heard something like this a couple of years ago.

That is pretty interesting

I had never heard that.

I'd heard similar rumblings

Not sure if it’s true or not.

Also, FYI — using the reply function makes the conversation much easier to follow.

If you don't mind a few more...

I just finished updating my gallery from yesterdays’ game here:
http://cubbienation.net/media/g/0409/default.aspx

I’ve um..upgraded.

This was a rare one yesterday!

Good job catching it.

Thanks....

Dominican pitchers just weren’t made for that sort of weather.

Teams should scout pitchers from Scotland for days like that?
I hear quite a few folks in Iceland

could use some work.

You guys are on to something

this ideology seems to work for Hockey

Bad weather be damned...

But this is a great picture, and celebrates one of the best moments in baseball.

Hence the round of applause they received.
Hendry should have known that by the end of 2004.
OT: Any DMB fans

Which I know there are a lot on this board. DMB just released their new single for free on their website “Funny the Way It Is.” Much better than anything on Stand Up

That didn't take long

Chris Carpenter walks off the mound in Arizona after throwing warm up pitches.

YES!!

The guy’s a good guy, but I’m not too sad to see our biggest rival have one of their best go down the weekend before we play ’em.

I think they said its a rib cage strain

So I don’t know what that means in terms of time being out, but I’m guessing he misses the Sunday Night start this week.

The funny thing is the Cardinal fans on campus were getting so cocky about how a healthy Carpenter would make us second fiddle in the division. 10 innings into the season he is hurt even if its for a short time you can never ever trust guys like this, and that includes Rich Harden.

-1

C’mon, Dan. . . rooting for an injury?

Bad karma to rejoice when someone gets hurt.
I didn't say I was rooting for an injury...

…I said I’m not sad to see one of the best players on a rival’s team go down. He’s WAAAY worse than Harden, and just as bad as Prior, but gets no PR because he’s not in a big time market. He’s a good guy, but they are our rivals for a reason.

Dan

PS – Also, this is why we need +1/-1 unrec/rec, like Digg. So you can digg me down. It’s only fair. I’ve asked SBN for this twice. The recommend feature is worthless if there is no alternate.

i don't know what the hell you're talking about.

carpenter is one of the best pitchers in the game. he’s better than anyone we have, though harden has a nastier pitch. the cardinals are less frightening without him, but rejoicing like that is completely bush league.

Carpenter isn't better than Zambrano

Go look at the numbers. Big Z is better, healthier, and aside from the one Cy Young season Carpenter never has Z numbers.

I thought it was quite obvious that I was comparing INJURY (Harden/Carp/Prior) and not statistics. I’ve said twice now I was not “rejoicing”, as you put it. The Cardinals are our biggest rivals, especially in this year’s division race, and frankly, it doesn’t bother me if he’s injured again. The guy’s been injured for the last few years anyway. I distinctly remember saying on this blog last year that when Pujols went down, I was sad to see one of the best players in the game get injured, but I wasn’t sad to see one of the best players we play on a regular basis not be in the lineup.

Dan

i guess i misread your "YES!!"

I guess you can be a jerk and believe that if everyone doesn’t see things your way they are wrong.

I guess it was your headline that got me

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not crying about it, either. Still, I won’t celebrate.

And I hadn't read through the responses before posting the above

ie I’m not trying to be a smartass . . . .

Opening Day @ Wrigley and miserable weather...

Our anniversary is April 5th, we just made 11 years; it seems more like 20. Just kidding but seriously several years back we decided to do Wrigley for our Anniversary. We had a damn good time dogging rain underneath and in the breezeways, drinking some brews and piggin’ out. Just the same we made a choice right then and there, from now on go when we have the best chance to enjoy the game. Which is not at the end of July or early August for that matter either.

… and yes I agree that these conditions raise possibilities of injuries, but what’a ya’ gonna do?
