Since there's no game tonight, Ted Lilly gets to stay home and rest up (I presume Lou will just push everyone back and Lilly will start Tuesday night against the Reds).
I'm sure all of you remember Lilly knocking over Yadier Molina last September 10 in St. Louis, a critical game in the pennant race that the Cubs wound up winning 4-2.

Leaving the scene of the crime.
This gives new meaning to baseball’s “hit and run”.

Don't know about the caption
but the PPD will give enough time for Neil Cotts to drive down to Des Moines, and Jason Waddel to make it up to the big club.
The E-Man - April 19, 2009
I would not be surprised to see a roster move before Tuesday's game.
And that just might be it.
Al Yellon - April 19, 2009
Seriously....
If Cotts gets even one more inning, i’d be surprised…
imknowdummy - April 19, 2009
...since one more inning would require getting three outs.
Not likely unless he can at least find the strike zone.
ChipSet - April 19, 2009
...since one more inning would require getting three outs.
HAHA! Very funny indeed!
Just imagine, had he been able to get three outs yesterday, Marmol could have pitched ONE inning in the 8th….
Nice outcome anyway, but causing more stress on an already stressed ’pen.
The E-Man - April 19, 2009
Cotts
Cotts seems to be this year’s Bob Howry. Bring him in no matter how badly he’s doing.
No Southern Belle - April 19, 2009
lack of options in the pen right now
Cubbie-Tim - April 19, 2009
Yep.
The extra day off will help a lot.
Al Yellon - April 19, 2009
actually literally Cotts would have to be released
Cubs will have to either DL or make a trade oh cubs could move Marmol or Heilman if they so choose highly unlikely.
Wait for teh Nat’s and Giants to lose a few more dozen
Ivy Walls - April 19, 2009
wha?
tomas21 - April 19, 2009
sorry about the typos but here is the situation in the nutshell
The Cubs pitching staff is locked unless the Cubs waive a player or place either Marshall, Marmol or Heilman through what is called optional waiver assignment——meaning a player could refuse the assignment and asked to be released.
IOW: Cubs do not have a pitcher they can simply relegate to AAA,
as for Cotts the issue is either release him or keep him.
it is no different than Gaudin, and this time of year are there any takers.
Ivy Walls - April 19, 2009
Was not impressed with Waddell today.
He got lucky in his two thirds today; from how he looked he should have given up at least one if not more. (See Josh’s Minors Wrap for more comments from today’s I-Cubs game.)

Ted Lilly does not rest
He waits.
DTJchris - April 19, 2009
the rain out was done by Ted Lilly so he can rest tonight
he was in the U.S. Virgin Islands this weekend, and they are now known as the U.S. Islands for that very reason

From Inside Pitch:
halfblindcubbiegirl - April 19, 2009
Thanks for the update.
Smart move, actually, gives the team some extra bullpen help and more rest for Lilly.

Do you think I should add this to the postponed post?
This is probably something people will want to know…
