Don't forget! Today's game starts an hour earlier than yesterday; if it's anything like last year's final spring game, the regulars will play about three or four innings and then traipse across the field in street clothes to the bus that's taking them to the airport to whisk them to New York for the pair of games against the Yankees.
Speaking of which, Lou changed his mind. Ted Lilly's going to NYC after all; if the rainy weather prevents him from pitching in the actual game, he'll still get his work in, throwing in the batting cages. From that Gordon Wittenmyer article we also learn:
• • Former Cub Sean Gallagher lost his job in Oakland's rotation without even pitching Wednesday. Athletics manager Bob Geren said after the 8-8 tie against the Cubs that Gallagher is ''competing for a bullpen job.'' As recently as last week, Gallagher was considered a middle-of-the-rotation starter.
• • The Cubs and Under Armour Inc. have reached a deal for the athletic apparel company to continue as the only advertiser on the outfield wall at Wrigley Field. The Cubs dropped a lawsuit filed in January that accused Under Armour of reneging on a previous deal.
Bruce Miles has Z's pitch count from yesterday: 63. Expect Ryan Dempster to go about that far today, too. Bruce also tells us that:
The Cubs don't have immediate interest in third baseman Mike Lamb, released by the Milwaukee Brewers, but it's possible they could look into a minor-league deal for Lamb in the near future.
Lamb, a left-handed batter, played with Milwaukee and Minnesota last year. He has a lifetime .277 batting average, a .333 on-base percentage and a .417 slugging percentage. The Cubs saw plenty of Lamb when he played for Houston from 2004-07. Lamb's release was due in part to former Cub Casey McGehee apparently making the Brewers' big-league club.
So let me get this straight: the Cubs are interested in a 33-year-old third baseman who had a bad year last year and who was beaten out for a roster spot by someone the Cubs let go on waivers last fall? Couldn't they have just kept Casey McGehee in that case?
From Paul Sullivan: yesterday's lineup was the likely lineup you'll see against LHP this year, except that Lou...
... wasn't sure whether Aaron Miles will start over Mike Fontenot at second base against Astros left-hander Wandy Rodriguez next Wednesday.
Speaking of Houston, remember the last time Z faced them? Carlos reminisces.
Ryan Dempster, as noted, will start against the Indians' Anthony Reyes. Expect widespread substitutions. The game is available at the MLB.com Mediacenter. If you are in the Cleveland are, the WMMS broadcast is running on tape delay and can be heard at 7 pm EDT.
Discuss amongst yourselves.

Lamb
used to kill the Cubs when he was Houston. At least, he did in all the games I saw. Why not sign him to play in Iowa and be available to come up if Aramis gets hurt for an extended stretch?
Reminds me a little of the Gary Gaetti signing, which worked out just fine.
Orval Overall - April 2, 2009
"with" Houston
that should say.
Orval Overall - April 2, 2009
I would rather see the Cubs stick Fox at third in Iowa
and see if he can play the position. If he can’t, then sign Lamb. I just think Fox’s bat would be more valuable than Lamb’s if both can play third adequately.
Bill Potter - April 2, 2009
The Fox versus the Lamb. Who do you think will win?
willie mays hayes' gloves - April 2, 2009
Depends. I've seen some pretty bad ass lambs in my time.
daver - April 2, 2009
Is that a lamb's revenge for the Dirty Jobs episode?
Bill Potter - April 2, 2009
This guy:
Bill Potter - April 2, 2009
Fox seems pretty brutal at 1st base
so I think it’s very unlikely he can even play an adequate 3rd base.
cowsarecool220 - April 2, 2009
Might as well find out.
If he’s no good over there, then Lamb becomes an option.
Bill Potter - April 2, 2009
Lamb has said that he only wants a Major League Contract
My guess is that the Cardinals will sign him now that Glaus will be out for a few months.
IowaCubs- - April 2, 2009
The comment about Fontenot was interesting
I’ve thought all along that Fontenot was going to get more AB’s than Miles simply because there are more righties than lefties, but if Piniella is considering Fontenot against a lefty already I’m wondering if that’s a sign that Piniella may make Fontenot more than just the left handed hitting platoon at 2B.
jerry morales rules - April 2, 2009
I think that's right
Lou might use today to see how he hits a pretty average lefty
Ihatethecards - April 2, 2009
its not a bad idea
if nothing else, he may be in a PH situation and have Font and Gathright to choose from with a lefty on the mound
Cubbie-Tim - April 2, 2009
I don't think that's much of a choice
if you have to lay down a sacrifice, you’d bring up Gathright and if you need a hit you’d bring in Fontenot.
jerry morales rules - April 2, 2009
Seems like the article was written
very early in the spring but not published until this week.
halfblindcubbiegirl - April 2, 2009
So I guess today qualifies....
as the first getaway day of the season. Wish we were heading to Houston after the game today, though.
ctcoff99 - April 2, 2009
That's sad to hear about about Sean "The Sledgehammer" Gallagher.
But I guess that explains Chad Gaudin, too. The revenge of Billy Beane!
daver - April 2, 2009
Agreed, but
Rich Harden for a guy who can’t make their rotation looks like a pretty good trade in retrospect. Even if the team has to eat Gaudin’s salary this year.
Orval Overall - April 2, 2009
Definitely true.
If Harden can stay healthy, make 20 to 25 starts and pitch up to his career norms, Hendry should absolutely be able to put that trade in the win column.
daver - April 2, 2009
Except that Josh Donaldson
was probably the key player in the deal for Oakland. And he’s a 22 year old catcher who hit .330/.391/.564 in 47 games for Stockton last year after the trade.
Josh Timmers - April 2, 2009
But Donaldson
was blocked with the Cubs by Soto, and Castillo is there to serve as yet another C in the system. Do you think the Cubs undersold with Donaldson?
jerry morales rules - April 2, 2009
No
We got Rich Harden out of it. I’m just saying that the Athletics didn’t get fleeced.
Josh Timmers - April 2, 2009
The "key" piece
of the deal was that the A’s got to save money. From a competitive standpoint, they got fleeced.
Orval Overall - April 2, 2009
Excuse me?
Harden only made $4.75 million last season. Oakland just traded for Matt Holliday who makes 9.5 million this season.
They traded Harden because they couldn’t sign him when he became a free agent after this season. They traded him because they felt his value was as high as it was going to be.
Josh Timmers - April 2, 2009
Compare
the salaries of Harden and Gaudin to the salaries of the guys we sent in return, and your point looks a little different.
If the concern was with next year, as opposed to avoiding that $4.75 mm and the current $7mm, they would have kept him through this July and traded him then. They didnt, because they wanted to save last year’s salary and this year’s salary.
Orval Overall - April 3, 2009
Ah, therein lies the rub.
In William Shatner voice, “BEANE!!!”
daver - April 2, 2009
Predictions for time of game?
I’m guessing 2 hrs 25 min.
No TV so that alone should shorten the game. The last ST game in recent years has been televised.
cowsarecool220 - April 2, 2009
But they've played it in Las Vegas
and that was a promotional weekend with subsidizing from the Vegas Visitors Bureau.

Cubs Lineup
Soriano, LF
Gathright, RF
Fukudome, CF
Hoffpauir, 1B
Fontenot, 2B
Scales, 3B
Blanco, SS
Hill, C
Dempster, P
Bill Potter - April 2, 2009
I bet we hang a 15 spot on Cleveland with this lineup.
santoswoodenlegs - April 2, 2009

Clutch16 - April 2, 2009
The Hoff

jerry morales rules - April 2, 2009
Phew!
I thought the starters were gonna play a good chunk of this game.
chilango2 - April 2, 2009
Andres Blanco and Bobby Scales will both be starters this year...
Bill Potter - April 2, 2009
HA!
It’ll be a nice summer in Des Moines though, from what I hear.
chilango2 - April 2, 2009
I would imagine so.
Plus, you get to travel throughout the Pacific Coast League, so that should be nice.
Bill Potter - April 2, 2009
Reno has a team this year
Unfortunately, the I-Cubs travel to neither Nevada nor California this year.
Josh Timmers - April 2, 2009
The PCL scheduling boggles me.
The lack of true home-and-home series just seems weird to me. Fresno’s radio guy was trying to explain it to me in February, but I don’t think it made sense to him, either.
Bill Potter - April 2, 2009
The Eastern teams
only make one trip out to the West Coast every year (and vice versa) and they play half the teams out there. So the I-Cubs and the River Cats play each other every year, but only one series. Last year the I-Cubs came to Sacramento. This year the River Cats go to Des Moines and the I-Cubs go to Tacoma and Portland.
Josh Timmers - April 2, 2009
Sure going to miss the PCL.
Since we lost the sidewinders to Reno, we now get an independent league team. They play from the end of May to the beginning of Aug. I’ll check it out since it’s a cheap $5 ticket.
tucsoncubsfan - April 2, 2009
And come to Portland, OR
for the All star game
100yearitch - April 2, 2009

IowaCubs- - April 2, 2009

Especially during Summer and Fall.
chilango2 - April 2, 2009
Geez, four lefties in a row.
I bet Lou was chuckling to himself over that one.
daver - April 2, 2009

He threatened to do that a couple of years ago in TB.
cowsarecool220 - April 2, 2009
Wouldn't surprise me.
It’s been a looooooong spring training. He’s probably looking forward to checking out the new Yankee Stadium.
daver - April 2, 2009
Fukudome batting third.
That ought to answer that question…
chilango2 - April 2, 2009
Obviously
Lou’s subscribing to the “Modified Perfect Blind Dart Toss” method of lineup selection here.
Clutch16 - April 2, 2009

Semi related to the Cubs
Garry Meier has been named to the 1-4 slot on WGN radio.
puckishcubsfan - April 2, 2009

Well
its a Cleveland station, there talking more to Indians fans, who may not know all that stuff.
tizzle - April 2, 2009
well, facts are facts
if the Cubs had won it all last year, I’m sure we’d be hearing the phrase “defending champions” a lot.
I think where you have more room to object would be the manner in which they bring it up. And there was nothing wrong with the way they brought it up.
I would have been more impressed though if they had mention their own WS championship drought since 1948. Fair is fair…

Where's my money...
Thanks Ballhawk.
Jimmyeatworld - April 2, 2009
Garko strikes out looking
7 k’s for Dempster thus far. And then Kelly Shoppach singles.
Bill Potter - April 2, 2009
Crowe flies out to end the inning
Middle 4: Cubs 7, Indians 3
Bill Potter - April 2, 2009
sox go 1-2-3 in the 5th
tied 1-1
hiphopgamer26 - April 2, 2009
Phew!
Thanks for the update!!!!
DamonBerryhillsMitt - April 2, 2009
I smell a crustacean...
santoswoodenlegs - April 2, 2009
lol
sue369 - April 2, 2009
you mean like Krustacean the Clown
ballhawk - April 2, 2009
Guess Hack Hitter strikes out
Bill Potter - April 2, 2009
no... really... c'mon...
chilango2 - April 2, 2009
Ahh.... finally - equal time. 1908 vs 1948.
ballhawk - April 2, 2009
The fairness doctrine in action.
santoswoodenlegs - April 2, 2009
and they even know the proper way to pronounce "Evers"...
ballhawk - April 2, 2009
how do you not pronounce that right?
Madison Cub Fan - April 2, 2009
well, in reference to the famed combo of Tinkers to Evers to Chance
it’s pronounced with a long “e”, as in rhymes with beavers.
ballhawk - April 2, 2009
thanks I learned something I should have known already
Madison Cub Fan - April 2, 2009
Now it's my turn to learn
carolinacub - April 2, 2009
Some people place the emphasis on the first E.
Others pronouce it ever with an s at the end… Technically, it should be E-vers.
Jimmyeatworld - April 2, 2009
Slappy Joe works a walk to bring up Fukudome
Bill Potter - April 2, 2009
Gathright swipes 2nd.
Bill Potter - April 2, 2009
This is realistically the only feasable way he will contribute anything to this team offensively.
When he’s in the lineup, we’ll have to just pray he can work the count and take a walk so he can steal 2nd base.
santoswoodenlegs - April 2, 2009
He doesn't have to walk
He can pinch run.
Bill Potter - April 2, 2009
Yes, but I'm thinking more along the lines of when he is in the lineup.
santoswoodenlegs - April 2, 2009
Yeah, I forgot Lou might start him every once in a while.
I try not to think about those scenarios.
Bill Potter - April 2, 2009
He also doesn't get thrown out on the basepaths
Unlike, oh, everybody else on the team.
Clutch16 - April 2, 2009
C'mon Dome!
Get a hit…
Jimmyeatworld - April 2, 2009
He slapped one at Carroll, playing third
beat the throw to first on the E5. Cleveland announcers say its his third hard-hit ball of the ball. He’s sprayed shots at 3B, SS and 2B on the day.
Bill Potter - April 2, 2009
anything that doesn't = an out is progress.
santoswoodenlegs - April 2, 2009
Sounds like
he’s the belle of the ball.
DamonBerryhillsMitt - April 2, 2009
Excellent...
If it ate up Carroll, it should be a hit.
Jimmyeatworld - April 2, 2009
"his third hard-hit ball of the ball"
just how much punishment can a guy take?
Put ice on it.
LAcarl519 - April 2, 2009
*ball of the day
Bill Potter - April 2, 2009
does he autograph it after the game?
LAcarl519 - April 2, 2009
probably depends on the type of ball.
Bill Potter - April 2, 2009
He slapped one?
First Patton, now Dome?
ballhawk - April 2, 2009
Slapping soldiers?
redward - April 2, 2009
Hoffpauir strikes out.
1st and 2nd, 2 out.
Bill Potter - April 2, 2009
we missed the EA chance...
perhaps Dome needs his own good luck girl too?
santoswoodenlegs - April 2, 2009
You got one handy?
Jimmyeatworld - April 2, 2009
No pic, no hit
ballhawk - April 2, 2009
hiphopgamer26 - April 2, 2009
That is ridiculous
Looks like that girl is trying to sneak those Taco Bell nachos in with her. Though, taking a slightly different approach then the dude in the commercial.
DamonBerryhillsMitt - April 2, 2009
She doesn't look japanese?
100yearitch - April 2, 2009
ok, this is a fail of massive proportions ;-)
FYI – this pic was over 200K. For future reference, try to keep them more around 50K (or less). Otherwise the thread will soon come grinding to a halt and you’ll suffer the wrath of BCB.
Unless it’s Erin… ;-)
ballhawk - April 2, 2009
i know were you "hang out" so you might want to calm down ESE
hiphopgamer26 - April 2, 2009
Is this a joke?
I’d hate to call for removal.
chilango2 - April 2, 2009
no idea. I was just offering up a picture posting tip.
Still trying to figure out what ESE means…
ballhawk - April 2, 2009
I hate being a PC dick
but it’s derogatory towards my people, much like the “n word.”
chilango2 - April 2, 2009
yes it is
calm down lol
hiphopgamer26 - April 2, 2009
Fontenot with a single to right
Gathright comes around to score, 8-3 Cubs.
Bill Potter - April 2, 2009
Now we're talkin'...
Jimmyeatworld - April 2, 2009
Scales strikes out
but on a Wild Pitch, advances to 1st. So, the bases are loaded with 2 outs.
Bill Potter - April 2, 2009
C'mon Bobby! Bring Dome around!
Jimmyeatworld - April 2, 2009
Thanks for the PBP Trey...
You’re a good egg.
Jimmyeatworld - April 2, 2009
I try.
Have a good one, Jimmy.
Bill Potter - April 2, 2009
GoCubbies34 - April 2, 2009
Blanco grounds into a force out.
End of 4: Cubs 8, Indians 3.
And with that, I will let someone else handle play-by-play, as I’m leaving the office. Enjoy the rest of the game.
Bill Potter - April 2, 2009
Thanks for your PBP Trey.
Drive safe.
Jimmyeatworld - April 2, 2009
Thanks Trey
Have a good night.
chilango2 - April 2, 2009
prince fielder just made a nice jumping catch
wait…contradiction?
hiphopgamer26 - April 2, 2009
I felt it.
santoswoodenlegs - April 2, 2009
GoCubbies34 - April 2, 2009
my office in LA swayed a bit
LAcarl519 - April 2, 2009
Ryan Dempster's wife just delivered her baby
Says a source I work with who is a family friend.
Good ol' 23 - April 2, 2009
Congrats To Demp & his wife!
Jimmyeatworld - April 2, 2009
Did she do a glove waggle first?
santoswoodenlegs - April 2, 2009
I hope so...
That’s SOP for the Dempster family now, isn’t it?
Jimmyeatworld - April 2, 2009
she just delivered her baby by herself?
If so she’s one amazing woman
Seriously tho congrats to them
Madison Cub Fan - April 2, 2009
Congratulations to them.
sue369 - April 2, 2009
Great news!
Any word on if it’s a boy or girl?
cowsarecool220 - April 2, 2009
It
is.
DamonBerryhillsMitt - April 2, 2009
Wonder if he will give out Einstein's bagels
instead of cigars.
Doggie Stalker - April 2, 2009
Brewers don't open there season until Tuesday
Isn’t that a bit odd?
Madison Cub Fan - April 2, 2009
The commissioner wants to make sure his favorite team is rested for the season.
santoswoodenlegs - April 2, 2009
Can we get Selig out of the commish chair already?
What a, wait I can’t say it…
Jimmyeatworld - April 2, 2009
Even some Brewer fans feel that way
Living in Wisconsin I know quite a few.
Madison Cub Fan - April 2, 2009
Worst commish ever...
I’d rather Michael Chilkis from the old TV show “the Commish”!
Jimmyeatworld - April 2, 2009
most teams that open on Monday have an off day on Tuesday (in case bad weather forces a postponement)
so MLB usually has a few teams open on Tuesday so there’s some baseball on every day.
ballhawk - April 2, 2009
Wow I learned 2 things
Dang internet making me learn new stuff
carolinacub - April 2, 2009
It’s pronounced “teh intranets”.
jdb-44 - April 2, 2009
teh?
carolinacub - April 2, 2009
“teh”, a mistyping of “the” (deliberate, in this case), is an internet slang “neologism”, according to Wikipedia. Jeez, that thing has articles on everything.
For those of you interested…
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Teh (right-click to view in a new window)
jdb-44 - April 2, 2009
You can even buy

Clutch16 - April 2, 2009

laidbackliam - April 2, 2009
Don't get me started on my webcomics
There’s even an Achewood fan around here somewhere.
Clutch16 - April 2, 2009
Thanks thats twice in one thread I've learned something
Madison Cub Fan - April 2, 2009

Good ol' 23 - April 2, 2009
You don't say!
But realistically….who’s baby would she deliver besides her own?
santoswoodenlegs - April 2, 2009
Twins!!
DamonBerryhillsMitt - April 2, 2009
Twins!!
santoswoodenlegs - April 2, 2009
I think I'm the only female here this afternoon .....
so complaining about equal time for photos won’t help.
Madison Cub Fan - April 2, 2009
Just for you Maddie...
santoswoodenlegs - April 2, 2009
awww thanks
that work… even tho Geo ones are my fav. He’s my wall paper on computer thro so I can see his cute face anytime my heart desires LOL
Madison Cub Fan - April 2, 2009
I agree.
Those guys (pictured above) have the model look.
cowsarecool220 - April 2, 2009
Thanks Maddie
You’re number one in my book, too.

100yearitch - April 2, 2009

carolinacub - April 2, 2009
Later Carolina...
Jimmyeatworld - April 2, 2009
Man, times
are tough.
DamonBerryhillsMitt - April 2, 2009
Yep the joys of being a headhunter
I can basically set my own hours as long as the boss keeps seeing the checks come in
carolinacub - April 2, 2009
Can't beat it,
DamonBerryhillsMitt - April 2, 2009
Gaudin...ugh.
assures himself of an AZ ERA above 10.00.
LAcarl519 - April 2, 2009
Guzman is younger.
santoswoodenlegs - April 2, 2009
I think we have learned that a 5 run lead is not large enough
to bring Chad into the game for middle relief. Neither Howry nor Gaudin proof.
Thank goodness for an idiot getting throw out on the bases for the third out!!
LAcarl519 - April 2, 2009
Theriot is playing for the Indians today?
santoswoodenlegs - April 2, 2009
I won't complain if he got traded to them LOL
Madison Cub Fan - April 2, 2009
Theriot for DeRosa
santoswoodenlegs - April 2, 2009
a Onedec protege...
LAcarl519 - April 2, 2009
Who is their starting SS?
Just curious, if anyone knows.
chilango2 - April 2, 2009
Jhonny Peralta...
whom I’d take over Theriot in less than a micro-second.
santoswoodenlegs - April 2, 2009
Yes
It’d be a big upgrade.
chilango2 - April 2, 2009
I've always like Jhonny P. too.
The Indians owe us for DeRo, maybe they can let us have him for cheap…
Jimmyeatworld - April 2, 2009
Hell, I'd say give them Hoffpauir, Theriot and Guadin....
and throw in $ if it would help.
santoswoodenlegs - April 2, 2009
Get it done.
Jimmyeatworld - April 2, 2009
Let me just open up my MLB:The Show....
santoswoodenlegs - April 2, 2009
They're going with Peralta at SS, Cabrera at 2B and DeRosa at 3rd
but if they all play up (or down) to their defensive capabilities, they’d be wise to shuffle them one spot – put Peralta at 3rd, DeRosa at 2nd and Cabrera at SS.
ballhawk - April 2, 2009
OT: youse Bears fans are gonna cry yet another year
VIKINGS FOREVER! Cutler is a Bear.
chilango2 - April 2, 2009
Let the whining begin...
santoswoodenlegs - April 2, 2009
Cutler screwed himself
Brandon Marshall or Devin Hester? Hmmmm
northofwrigley - April 2, 2009
#1, in 2009, 2010 a #3 in 2010 and Kyle Orton
Jeebus
N Oakley - April 2, 2009
Yeah that's insanely high.
GoCubbies34 - April 2, 2009
Uh, not
the way we draft. Those picks wouldn’t have amounted to a hill-a-beans. Great deal!
DamonBerryhillsMitt - April 2, 2009
sounds about right
(says the Packer fan)
LAcarl519 - April 2, 2009
Not to mention the
fact that we never hafta deal with Kyle being our QB ever again. Mmmmmm, cherry on top.
DamonBerryhillsMitt - April 2, 2009
i didn't mind capt neckbeard
it was sexy rexy who annoyed me.
laidbackliam - April 2, 2009

Itchy - April 2, 2009
Yahbut
Nahbut.
Oh darn…
chilango2 - April 2, 2009
why would we cry for another year?
we have a qb
halfblindcubbiegirl - April 2, 2009
Not the fans....him.
santoswoodenlegs - April 2, 2009
Hm
okay. well whatever.
Yay for Angelo finally the cajones to make a big deal!!
halfblindcubbiegirl - April 2, 2009
Trust me...I've seen his act out here in the AFC West.....
as soon as things start getting rough, this guy throws everybody under the bus. He’s TO under center.
santoswoodenlegs - April 2, 2009
Eh
stop raining on my parade!!
halfblindcubbiegirl - April 2, 2009

LAcarl519 - April 2, 2009

Or did it…???
N Oakley - April 2, 2009
hee
Emelie - April 2, 2009
Hey!
I figured you were in Alaska already. How was the move?
chilango2 - April 2, 2009
I'm in the process as I type ... waiting to board plane to anchorage
hope Redoubt blows while in filght because then they’ll reroute straight to Fairbanks :-}}
Emelie - April 2, 2009
From USGS
The 2009 eruption of Redoubt Volcano continues. Beginning around 8:30 AM AKDT this morning, small repetitive volcanic earthquakes became visible on stations closest to the summit crater. Emission of steam, volcanic gases, and minor amounts of ash continue and have been visible in the Redoubt Hut web camera images today. Satellite views of the volcano showed a low-level continuous plume containing some ash throughout most of the night and views are now obscured by clouds. These emissions have generally been at low altitudes (less than 15,000 feet above sea level). Thermal anomalies continue to be observed in satellite views and are most likely due to the extrusion of a lava dome in the summit crater.
Please see the National Weather Service Redoubt coordination page http://pafc.arh.noaa.gov/volcano.php for the latest ash fall information.
chilango2 - April 2, 2009
thanks. I couldn't fly out yesterday as planned because of an eruption.
Emelie - April 2, 2009
does anyone know when the Cubs next will be on WGN?
Emelie - April 2, 2009
Tuesday
6 p.m. Central.
chilango2 - April 2, 2009
thanks... should be hooked up by then
Emelie - April 2, 2009
Meanwhile, back in Mesa...
…The General is in the game and is ordering you to forget about the Bears and pay attention to the Cubs!
ballhawk - April 2, 2009
Cubs still winning?
Itchy - April 2, 2009
nope. tied up.
runner was on first, Patton tried a pickoff, wild throw, runner goes to third.
next guy gets on (walk?) so it’s 1st and 3rd, nobody out.
Garko hits into double play, but run scores.
8-8, top of 9th.
ballhawk - April 2, 2009
whoops - Garko is up now, so not sure who hit into DP.
ballhawk - April 2, 2009
Our Disappearing Defense of late
is getting annoying.
100yearitch - April 2, 2009
all these guys will be in iowa this year
don’t worry.
halfblindcubbiegirl - April 2, 2009
Thanks,
I knew that but it helps to hear it from someone else too.
100yearitch - April 2, 2009
Wow
Weren’t the Cubs up like 7-3 not too long ago?
Itchy - April 2, 2009
Then Gaudin entered the game...
Bill Potter - April 2, 2009
What do you think?
The Cubs will be able to trade him now? I really wanted him to succeed, but now all I want is for him to be traded.
chilango2 - April 2, 2009
I think he's working his way towards a stint on the DL
Barring that, I could see the Cubs letting him go. Unless Colorado still wants him, in which case they might be able to work something out.
Bill Potter - April 2, 2009
takes two to trade
who’d want him after seeing him stink it up all spring?
halfblindcubbiegirl - April 2, 2009
That was my point exactly
Who’d go for 10.00+ ERA?
chilango2 - April 2, 2009
Would anyone
trade for Harden? His ERA is over 7.
The spring numbers don’t always show how a person can pitch.
tizzle - April 2, 2009
i'm not looking at the numbers
i’m looking at the fact that gaudin hasn’t looked healthy since last aug. and this spring has done him no favors in getting the ball.
halfblindcubbiegirl - April 2, 2009
He's
still better than Guzman or Vizcaino IMO.
tizzle - April 2, 2009
according to the score
and i have no link
the rockies are interested in Gaudin. we’ll know soon as to that.
tim815 - April 2, 2009
another ugly outing for chad?
i wasn’t paying attention. i was over at WCG partying.
halfblindcubbiegirl - April 2, 2009
Another 8-8 tie would be odd
northofwrigley - April 2, 2009
Garko walks. Hairston was already on, so it's 1st and 2nd, two out.
Graffanino is pinch-hitting
ballhawk - April 2, 2009
Monday's weather for Sox opener
36 with chance of rain/snow…
ballhawk - April 2, 2009
Glad we're in Houston
northofwrigley - April 2, 2009
Sounds like my little game yesterday
100yearitch - April 2, 2009
Ugh
I hope that snow doesn’t happen.
halfblindcubbiegirl - April 2, 2009
That was supposed to be Little League game
100yearitch - April 2, 2009
announcers are saying Lou is not pleased
Just waved his hand rather dismissively towards Patton on the mound.
Patton gets out of inning though, no further damage. Guessing he’s getting an earful in the dugout now. Lou’s probably telling him THIS ISN’T PITTSBURGH!!!
ballhawk - April 2, 2009
haha
halfblindcubbiegirl - April 2, 2009
Reed Johnson pinch-hitting for the Cubs, leading off bottom of 9th, 8-8 tie.
ballhawk - April 2, 2009
It'd be nice to manufacture one here
100yearitch - April 2, 2009
base hit Johnson!
ballhawk - April 2, 2009
Lou must be a musician - he's still playing Scales (ha ha ha ha ha...)
ballhawk - April 2, 2009
Scales was just traded to Denver...
for Jay Cutler.
IowaCubs- - April 2, 2009
Did the Bears
Get Manny?
Clutch16 - April 2, 2009
They also traded Fontenot to Buffalo...
…for T.O.
IowaCubs- - April 2, 2009
no, but I think I heard the other day that the Rockies let Murton go
or assigned him to minor league camp or something like that, so maybe the Bears need a red-head on the team.
ballhawk - April 2, 2009
Indeed.
They sent Murton, Carlos Gonzalez and Greg Smith (all 3 acquired in the Holliday trade) to Triple-A Colorado Springs.
Bill Potter - April 2, 2009
They have
a redhead already…Robie Gould. :D
sue369 - April 2, 2009
know they got Peavy of course.
Doggie Stalker - April 2, 2009
Scales sacrifice bunt, Johnson to second. Andy White up.
ballhawk - April 2, 2009
Base hit
run scored. game over
100yearitch - April 2, 2009
Sweet!
Who got the RBI?
Clutch16 - April 2, 2009
think it was Blanco. Bloop hit into center, Johnson scores from second.
ballhawk - April 2, 2009
Good way to head out of Arizona.
Bill Potter - April 2, 2009
Now let's get a sweep in the bronx
100yearitch - April 2, 2009
Al must be happy
Only spring training but 3 straight ties would be a bitch.
Doggie Stalker - April 2, 2009
Crazy Eights?
Or Crazy 88?

Clutch16 - April 2, 2009
Who? When? Where?
northofwrigley - April 2, 2009
Great!
Always nice to win.
chilango2 - April 2, 2009
Thank goodness
i was afraid we were destined for another 8-8 tie.
its been a pretty good day.
halfblindcubbiegirl - April 2, 2009
we're happy you're happy!
LAcarl519 - April 2, 2009
A CLASSIC
vulture victory for General Patton. Now it’s on to NY. Let’ spoil the yunkees’ house warming party w/a sweep of the bronx bums. you what would be great: give heilman a start in the NY. he is sure to be warmly rcvd by new yyorkers!!
