I'm working on a dream
though sometimes it feels so far away
I'm working on a dream
and I know it will be mine someday -- Bruce Springsteen
At last! Seemed like it would never get here.
Let's begin with the beginning: Bruce Miles sends the Opening Day lineup:Soriano, LF Fukudome, CF Lee, 1B Bradley, RF Ramirez, 3B Fontenot, 2B Soto, C Theriot, SS Zambrano, P
I'm fine with this lineup. It has the advantage of being R-L-R-L-R-L-R for the first seven batters, which should negate anyone's LOOGYs later in the game, not to mention Z's switch-hitting (and he has four career HR in the Juice Box). Meanwhile, Z has apparently forgotten Aramis Ramirez was on the team in 2003:
"I don't think there is anyone who wore an '03 uniform that is still here with the Cubs," Zambrano said. "We had everything -- pitching, defense, power, everything. It's hard to think about the '03 season."
Yeah, for us too, Z. So instead, Phil Rogers says, why don't you go out and throw another no-hitter tonight?
"You have to remember Carlos Lee wasn't in their lineup," Zambrano said of the no-hitter. "At that time, he was hurt. I have to be careful of him. He has good numbers on me. … With Lee, [Miguel] Tejada, [Lance] Berkman, now Pudge Rodriguez, they have a good lineup. I like a challenge. Facing Houston on Opening Day is a good challenge."
"It's an honor to be an Opening Day starter, especially with the Cubs," he said. "This is a great organization, the organization that brought me up. ... To get a chance to get the first victory of the season for our team is an honor and a challenge."
Z doesn't have a good record on Opening Days -- 0-1, 5.57 -- but he threw well last year in a no-decision. He'll become only the third Cub starter to pitch five Opening Days (Rick Sutcliffe, Fergie Jenkins).
| Today's Starting Pitchers | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
(Statistics are from the 2008 season; after pitchers' first starts, I'll have extended stats like last year's)
Oswalt is the Astros' best starter (some would say, their only starter). Despite his fine career, he is only 12-11, 3.88 lifetime vs. the Cubs, and split a pair of decisions last year against them. We may get to see our old buddy LaTroy Hawkins tonight; he's now an Astro.
Like last year, I'm going to have multiple overflow threads post for each game. This one will serve as a pregame thread; a "first pitch" thread will post at 6 pm CDT (and in general, right before the first pitch of each game). Then, overflow threads 1, 2 and 3 will post at 1 hour, 2 hours, and 2:45 past game time. If it seems like more are warranted depending on the game, I'll make more. You won't see these on the front page of the site; there's a box on the right sidebar where you'll find them when they post. I'm also taking suggestions for what I can put on each overflow page (keep it clean, please!).
Enough talk. Play ball!
Discuss amongst yourselves.

Shanghai Badger - April 6, 2009
Right...
But we didn’t switch until March 29th.
sanantonecub - April 6, 2009
That still seems early
Especially in colder climates. Who in the UK or upper midwest was outside in the evening for recreation in early to mid-March?
I like driving home in the sunshine, but I think it should go back to April.
Shanghai Badger - April 6, 2009
Are you ready for some baseball???

Emelie - April 6, 2009
Hope he gets

neverAcquiesce - April 6, 2009
Anyone know if EI is going to have
any of the games in HD this year (on Cable). I know they do it on Directv.
LT - April 6, 2009
Couldn't tell you.
I have Charter cable in St Louis and it only lists SD right now.

And God it's beautiful...
Someday I’ll subscribe to EI…

CubsBullsBears - April 6, 2009
Is there a ball game today?
digitalbenjamin - April 6, 2009
Think just
the NCAA Championship, that I know of anyway.
DamonBerryhillsMitt - April 6, 2009
There was some day games
But none tonight.
wrigleyrocker12 - April 6, 2009
I predict
over 1500 comments for this game.
I think overflows should go on the home page. All of them. The purpose for this place is to talk about the Cubs, and we do that better than any other site online, with each season of BCB bringing more and more comments and discussions during games. We used to have one thread, with a few hundred comments. Now we have 3-5 overflows with hundreds if not over a thousand comments per game. No other Cubs’ site does this. Front page is my vote.

Lou In Blue - April 6, 2009
Don't they?
I thought the OverFlow threads always wound up on the sidebar off to the right on the front page. No??
DamonBerryhillsMitt - April 6, 2009
Well, sure, by that logic, EVERYTHING ends up on the front page.
I mean the front, middle section. Not FanPosts or FanShots sections.
dtpollitt - April 6, 2009
I see
Well, I know where to look for ‘em, so I couldn’t care less. Plus, usually someone links to the next thread in the prior one anyway.
DamonBerryhillsMitt - April 6, 2009
I vote no...
Keeping the overflows on a seperate page makes the front page much easier to scroll through to find older posts.
sanantonecub - April 6, 2009
I'm ready! Don't need a no hitter tonight, just a win!
Lou In Blue - April 6, 2009
And the games begin...

flachimesa - April 6, 2009
No surprise
Yanks just scored on the O’s.
chilango2 - April 6, 2009
is Pie playing?
drewishdrewid - April 6, 2009
nope...
(unless he pitch hit and I didn’t see). Announcers said something about not wanting to have his debut with the O’s be against CC…which seems weird to me, but oh well…
CubsWin!Oregon - April 6, 2009
lefty on lefty
it makes sense.
halfblindcubbiegirl - April 6, 2009
Yeah
That does make sense then. I always forget that CC is a lefty…
CubsWin!Oregon - April 6, 2009
Gosh
It’s hard to do this and homework at the same time!!!
wrigleyrocker12 - April 6, 2009
Didn't you
know, Opening Day is a homework holiday. Your teachers will understand.
gwood - April 6, 2009
You don't know
My teachers, besides, 3 missing is a detention.
wrigleyrocker12 - April 6, 2009
What has Fukudome done to deserve the 2nd spot in the batting order?
I would put him somewhere after Zambrano. Batting 2nd, he will get more AB’s than anyone but Soriano.
Jerry Mumphrey - April 6, 2009
He may not have done anything to deserve it...
However, his plate discipline will serve the team well in that spot, and he will see more fastballs to gear up his bat.
Jimmyeatworld - April 6, 2009
Nothing
Can’t hit, and can’t field centerfield. All for the pricetag of $48 million. At least the Cubs have the option of Reed Johnson and/or putting Ryan Theriot or Mike Fontenot in the # 2 hole when Kosuke continues to play like a pile o’ crap.
“Paging Mr. Jim Edmonds, please pick up the white courtesy telephone for an urgent call by Jim Hendry”
BLou - April 6, 2009
Very stupid of us to get rid of Edmonds...
…when Dome either sucks or hasn’t adjusted.
dtpollitt - April 6, 2009
can we

cubsluver22 - April 6, 2009

You already used that last line today.
sue369 - April 6, 2009
Speaking of Edmonds...
A while back I heard a spot on 670 where a Bill James disciple was talking about the Win Shares stat and challenged the listeners to guess which Cub had the most on the team. I think it was Derosa first and Edmonds second.
Jerry Mumphrey - April 6, 2009

2 – Reyes
3 – Burnett
Honorable Mention: Wright, Dice-K
dtpollitt - April 6, 2009
you can't be serious??
cubsluver22 - April 6, 2009
Jeter yes
Reyes no, Burnett yes, Wright no, Dice-K yes.
wrigleyrocker12 - April 6, 2009
Jeter
isnt overrated one bit and I hate the yankees with every inch of my heart
cubsluver22 - April 6, 2009
Sorry
That was a typo. Seriously, he’s great.
wrigleyrocker12 - April 6, 2009

halfblindcubbiegirl - April 6, 2009
I love Derek Jeter so phhht ;P
Emelie - April 6, 2009
He seems to be taking to the leadoff spot.
He’s 2 for 2.
daver - April 6, 2009
I'm a big Derek Jeter fan too...
His career and his post-season success speaks for itself. The guy is a born leader and still going strong in this his 15th season in the league. He is first ballot Hall of Famer and one of my favorites in the game.
BLou - April 6, 2009
He can be all that and still be overrated.
N Oakley - April 6, 2009
Jeter gets props for being a leader and for winning games.
But he’s on the most overrepresented team in baseball, and perhaps all of USA sports. His team banks players of $200,000,000+ salaries on a yearly basis. His defense APPEARS to be good…but it’s only because his range sucks ass and cannot get to balls other SSs can. Thus, we have flashy, “fun” plays that are more gimmicky than anything. It’s no question the guy is gonna be a 1st ballot HOFer, but what would his career look like on a non-east coast team?
dtpollitt - April 6, 2009
On the bright side...
…I guess I’d rather read people hatin’ on non-Cubs players.
daver - April 6, 2009
I really don't think Wright is overrated
A .921 OPS, an OPS+ of almost 150, all before the age of 27, pretty damn good. I think he is, and as such acknowledged as, one of the best players in game.
DTJchris - April 6, 2009
I gotta say
it’s so nice to see the right side of a thread explode with posts again.
Oh, Cubs. I swore off you six months ago and look what you’ve done to me. I’m gonna be doing 90 to get home after I get off at six…
neverAcquiesce - April 6, 2009
Most overrated team in baseball -- CLEVELAND
They will once again suck for all of those who predict great things once again out of that team. They have no starting pitching a several former roid boys trying to recapture their former RBI prowess. Mark Shapiro is the most overrated and talked about GM in baseball.
BLou - April 6, 2009
Not to mention Cliff Lee isn't more than a barely-above-ERA+league-average pitcher.

Most overrated player on BCB
Edmonds
Clutche - April 6, 2009
Please
Hoffpauir remains at the top of that list. At least Edmonds made a roster before he was 30 and broken.
halfblindcubbiegirl - April 6, 2009
He's not overrated here..........
Everybody thinks he sucks except me and one or two others
Clutche - April 6, 2009
No, most think he's a journeyman who can rake
But your Santo-esque take on him . . . .
Shanghai Badger - April 6, 2009
And the 2 people talking about picking up Edmonds
halfblindcubbiegirl - April 6, 2009
I don't necessarily think he sucks.
I just think he remains largely unproven at the major league level, is dubious as a pinch hitter and appears athletically unsuited for the outfield. He’s got a nice lookin’ swing, though.
daver - April 6, 2009
And one hot groupie
Shanghai Badger - April 6, 2009
Nope. I think he sucks.

Micah Hoffpauir is not major league material
Wait until we get glimpse of him coming up in late inning pinch hitting appearances with that big swing. Love of Hoffpauir is going to vaporize quickly.
BLou - April 6, 2009
Lou would disagree
Clutche - April 6, 2009
Give Hoffpauir one month before the Cubs are searching for a replacement
BLou - April 6, 2009

Lou had no other suitable options.
Simple as that. I don’t normally agree with BLou, but in this case he is right.

Happy Halloween indeed.

that’s Houston orange
Clutche - April 6, 2009
I should have warned my 'Z' key that it was Opening Day...
digitalbenjamin - April 6, 2009
They need to make special BCB
Keyboards that only have a ‘z’ key
gwood - April 6, 2009
Now THERE'S a Photoshop idea.
daver - April 6, 2009
I had NO idea that's what hitting the Z key does!
What other wonderful shortcuts can BCBers share?
Zeke - April 6, 2009
if you're posting a picture
put the link to it between ! (
)
or to bold things easily use the asterisk. star words star.
halfblindcubbiegirl - April 6, 2009
oh yeah
you can collapse comments by clicking on the bold title of it
and use the R key to reply to the comment you’re on at the moment.
halfblindcubbiegirl - April 6, 2009
If you're going to post a picture
(not only directed at you wrigleyrocker) but can you please put in a “subject” so that those of us who do NOT want to have EA taking up the whole screen can collapse it?
Please?
halfblindcubbiegirl - April 6, 2009
Jealous??
Clutche - April 6, 2009
No
its just easier on everyone. And I don’t think its that unreasonable.
Why are you so hostile?
halfblindcubbiegirl - April 6, 2009
Opening Day does strange things to me
Clutche - April 6, 2009
Funny
considering this isn’t the first time you’ve been harsh toward me for no reason.
halfblindcubbiegirl - April 6, 2009
Don't take everything personal.............
humor is your friend
Clutche - April 6, 2009
I'd be more willing to give you benefit of the doubt
if you hadn’t already called me a whore.
halfblindcubbiegirl - April 6, 2009
You called HBCG a whore?
Unacceptable in any context. Don’t do it again.
Jimmyeatworld - April 6, 2009
Yeah really...
Everyone chill. Clutche, say you’re sorry.
wrigleyrocker12 - April 6, 2009
Not literally
Clutche - April 6, 2009
whoa
Emelie - April 6, 2009
Seriously?
daver - April 6, 2009
Thats how I read it anyway
halfblindcubbiegirl - April 6, 2009
that deserves a report
shame on you, Clutche
Emelie - April 6, 2009
That's not cool!!
gwood - April 6, 2009
Sounds that way...
Clutche, I repeat, DON’T DO IT AGAIN.
Jimmyeatworld - April 6, 2009
Clutche hasn't posted
Since you started talking about this…
wrigleyrocker12 - April 6, 2009
He posted once...
and simply said, “not literally”.
Jimmyeatworld - April 6, 2009
It was after she got Clutch16 and me confused and said.......
to Clucth16……….. oh the other one is the one I don’t like
Clutche - April 6, 2009
Sooo...you implied that she's promiscuous?
daver - April 6, 2009
Just apologize already...
and don’t do it again. It is unacceptable. Women are to be respected, at all times.
Jimmyeatworld - April 6, 2009
HBCG is a big girl and I'm sure she can take care of herself.
My suggestion would be that we agree it was a stupid comment, but also to drop the sanctimonious “protect the little girl” thing, and just agree to move on to happier conversation (or just quit talking to each other if it’s really that big of a deal…)? But I’m pretty sure none of us are made of porcelain here…
CubsWin!Oregon - April 6, 2009
It's not being sanctimonious...
Disrespecting women is unacceptable in any context. Additionally it is not about protecting the little girl. I’m quite sure that HBCG can take care of herself. By the same token, I will not sit idly by while a woman I happen to know, or any woman for that matter, is disrespected.
That is all.
Jimmyeatworld - April 6, 2009
I shouldn't have brought it up
but frankly. I’m a little pissed off.
halfblindcubbiegirl - April 6, 2009
as well you should be
that was totally uncalled for
Emelie - April 6, 2009
As you should.
Ignore him, though. It’s a poster on the internet…not worth your time or energy.
neverAcquiesce - April 6, 2009
I am not
Clutche - April 6, 2009
I'd be too
There’s no reason for it. And it was in your defense, so I would’ve brought it up.
wrigleyrocker12 - April 6, 2009
No girl, you should have brought it up...
and it is way out of line.
Jimmyeatworld - April 6, 2009
sorry....
Clutche - April 6, 2009
Who are you sorry to?
Apologies contain much more than a simple sorry. We already know you are sorry, right? To disrespect a woman that way is a sorry thing to do. Apologies assume responsibility for wrong action, contain contrition, and endeavor to display intention to not do it again.
Jimmyeatworld - April 6, 2009
I replied to her with an apology..........
and said I took notice that it wouldn’t happen again
Clutche - April 6, 2009
They aren't protecting her b/c she is a girl
They are saying it b/c it is wrong to call someone a name like that. It’d be no different if someone said something nasty to one of the guys. The other ones would still step up and say something.
Madison Cub Fan - April 6, 2009
I hope you apologized for that, Clutche.
daver - April 6, 2009
I was warned and took notice
Clutche - April 6, 2009
Was it in another thread
Because I didn’t hear it here?
wrigleyrocker12 - April 6, 2009
Would've been quite
incredible if you had :)
gwood - April 6, 2009
I emailed Al when I saw it
he said he’d take care of it.
But I heard nothing. I would’ve appreciated an apology or an explaination from Clutche though.
Apparently that was asking too much considering my email address is cleverly hidden on my profile page.
halfblindcubbiegirl - April 6, 2009
He just muttered an apology above.
daver - April 6, 2009
that was a shout
Clutche - April 6, 2009
Dude, that was the veritable definition of an Internet mutter.
daver - April 6, 2009
mistakes happen
let’s move on
Clutche - April 6, 2009
I was warned and took notice...........
and I think your comment, although not malicious, was also uncalled for
Clutche - April 6, 2009
Hey, Cubs baseball is on today!
Start another thread somewhere else if you want to bicker.
Lou In Blue - April 6, 2009
Maybe
winking and saying i like clutch16 better than you was uncalled for, but i would’ve appreciated you “taking notice” by allowing us to settle whatever you felt was uncalled for like adults.
But okay. You’ve taken notice. We’re square.
halfblindcubbiegirl - April 6, 2009
fair enough
Clutche - April 6, 2009
Good Clutche...
Understand my point regarding apologies above, too may people think saying sorry is enough. When you only say you’re sorry, and don’t truly apologize, you do no more than indict yourself as a sorry individual.
If she says you’re square, that’s enough for me. Don’t do it again, and I don’t hold a grudge, as a matter of fact, it is already forgotten.
Now, let’s get back to discussing baseball…
Jimmyeatworld - April 6, 2009
Never occured to me you could do that...
Good Idea HBCG.
sanantonecub - April 6, 2009
Everyt ime I scroll back up...

Kinky Reggae - April 6, 2009

wrigleyrocker12 - April 6, 2009

Kinky Reggae - April 6, 2009

…or at least don’t post large ones. This thread is going to be slowed to a crawl by first pitch.
daver - April 6, 2009

Kinky Reggae - April 6, 2009

Shanghai Badger - April 6, 2009
That's true. What do I care?
Daver goes to his Flickr account cackling madly…
daver - April 6, 2009

It wasn’t just you. I just figured I could ask and if people thought about it maybe theyd’ do it.
It just does make game threads easier for me, and maybe other people.
halfblindcubbiegirl - April 6, 2009

wrigleyrocker12 - April 6, 2009

CubsWin!Oregon - April 6, 2009
I have a choice of NYY@BAL or...
Dr. Quinn, basically. Gotta love AFN. Oh, the late show too.
And then there’s no baseball on British tv :(
sanantonecub - April 6, 2009
There is cricket!!
No?
neverAcquiesce - April 6, 2009
Ah...
Yeah British TV frustrates the hell out of me whenever I’m over there. When I was in the Middle East last summer, I was surprised to find that I could get ESPN though. Never thought I’d watch the Cubs from Israel and Egypt… :)
If it makes you feel any better, I’m watching COL/ARZ on the Extra Innings free preview, so the glory of being able to watch 6 games will be fleeting…:)
CubsWin!Oregon - April 6, 2009
It's funny:
I go out of my way to watch British programming but I know if I was in the UK I’d be dying to get my American stuff back.
neverAcquiesce - April 6, 2009
thankfully these days most of it's available on the net
Emelie - April 6, 2009
For full disclosure...
I could purchase “ESPN America” (Formerly North American Sports Network) for a monthly fee and get American sports, or purchase Sky Satellite and get a few games on their Sport channels but I’m too cheap.
sanantonecub - April 6, 2009
Especially since
AFN and MLB.tv cover my bases.
sanantonecub - April 6, 2009
Off-season spending in 2009, in millions, via ESPN's NYY/BAL game:
YANKS – 441
DODGERS – 106
BRAVES – 90
CUBS – 88
dtpollitt - April 6, 2009
They said
That the Yanks payroll went down.
wrigleyrocker12 - April 6, 2009

Ahhh
I didn’t think that was possible.

I am 11 years old
I’m finally starting to get used to this new school, and girls are starting to look interesting. But that doesn’t matter, because Cy Young winner Rick Sutcliffe is starting, and Ryno, Sarge, and the Penguin are all back and ready to prove themselves better than those San Diego jerks that got killed by the Tigers, anyway.
I am 16 years old
Well, working the new job means I don’t have time for track anymore, and I’m only going to be able to keep up on the scores in the paper. But that doesn’t matter, because Maddux is still astounding, and the Wild Thing can get out of any jam he puts himself into, and the Hawk and Ryno can still bring some numbers. The Giants better watch it this year.
I am 25 years old
The new pad in Midtown is sweet, but I have bittersweet memories of last year. Sitting next to the Harry Caray Appreciation Day poster at the sports bar for the stretch run. Sitting 10 rows back in right field for Game 1. The little hippie chick dressed all in blue who patted me on the back after that Game 1 loss and said, “We’ll get ’em tomorrow.” Anyway, MVP Sosa will be back, and Jon Lieber showed he knows how to win. That Farnsworth kid can really bring it, too. We’re definitely gonna compete again.
I am 30 years old
So I’m finally getting paid, and it kinda sucks I got dumped 3 days after my birthday, but whatever. That freaky stunt that Gonzalez pulled was a long time ago, and he’s not around anymore, anyway. We stole Lee away from the Fish, anyway, and Aramis was a nice surprise at the end of last season. Hope he sticks around. Besides, Woody, Prior, and Clement are gonna just be lights out, if we can keep ’em healthy. Definitely gonna make another run at it.
I am 34 years old
Well the new gig is pretty tame, and my legs are starting to recover a bit. But that doesn’t matter – who’d have thought Sweet Lou could win us the Central last year? It’s a shame the Snakes were so hot at the end and we couldn’t keep up with ‘em, but Zambrano’s gonna get 20 wins, and ARam and Sori are gonna tear up the league’s pitchers. That Soto kid looked pretty good at the end of the year, too. Hope he can keep it together. Not sure I like swapping Dempster and Woody’s roles, but maybe the ’pen will be good for Kerry.
I am 35 years old
Well, we’re more left-handed, anyway.

only bottom of the 5th and Cubs game in an hour
Ivy Walls - April 6, 2009
Thank goodness the Cubs game is on AFN|Xtra
While the Yankee game is on AFN|Sport.
Though is the Yankee game a ESPN2 broadcast also? Maybe they will give us a local Houston or Chicago feed until ESPN switches….
sanantonecub - April 6, 2009
It's one of the two ESPN channels.
ESPN and 2 have, like, five games today.
neverAcquiesce - April 6, 2009
Right...
I know it’s ESPN as I see exactly what you do, just didn’t know which ESPN channel

Knowing ESPN they’ll stick with the Yankees as long as they can.

Lowe did good for me yesterday
And Big Z, Soriano, and Soto all need to produce :)
sanantonecub - April 6, 2009
I had Z and Demp last year
Didn’t pick them up again this year. Still have Marmol (though him not closing kind of screws me). And I have Lilly as a backup. :)
As normal I didn’t pick any Cardinals, since i can’t bring myself to root for them. :)
CubsWin!Oregon - April 6, 2009
No Yanks, Cards, or Brewers for me
This is my first year experimenting with Fantasy. As such, I have Sota, Fontenot, Soriano, Bradley, Zambrano, Gregg, and Lilly taking up a third of my team.
sanantonecub - April 6, 2009
That should be Soto*
sanantonecub - April 6, 2009
ha.
My league makes fun of me ‘cause I tend to do that (although not quite that heavily weighted :)). It does make you awful dependent on one teams performance (including when the Cubs have an day off). So I’ve slowly accepted that I can’t take as many Cubs as my heart would like me to. :)
CubsWin!Oregon - April 6, 2009
Well, there's no money involved
So for me it’s more about learning how to play this year. Plus I was too damn lazy to do proper research for a draft.
sanantonecub - April 6, 2009
I forgot to mention...
I also took Peavy as an honorary Cub.
sanantonecub - April 6, 2009
That is why I have No Yankees on my team

EJThunder - April 6, 2009

I'm shocked...
the batter didn’t pull the trigger on that pitch. Was a good strikeout pitch and awful close…

Anyone remember the website last year that sometimes streamed a Cubs broadcast online?

sanantonecub - April 6, 2009
Marlins' 3B Emilio Bonifacio is having an exciting day
3 stolen bases and an inside-the-park homerun
The guy can fly!
flachimesa - April 6, 2009
the question is
if he’s flying is there anyone at the park in south florida to see him?
halfblindcubbiegirl - April 6, 2009
I read somewhere they...
were supposed to have a good crowd today.
Whether they did or not is another story.
EJThunder - April 6, 2009
Nice.
neverAcquiesce - April 6, 2009
wow
Emelie - April 6, 2009
Awww fuck
Screw you, Posada
sanantonecub - April 6, 2009
what was that about
halfblindcubbiegirl - April 6, 2009
Posada gave a baseball a scenic tour
of Camden Yards… nonstop from the batters box to the batters eye.
sanantonecub - April 6, 2009
HR Posada, huh
but i’m just curious why Em was so upset. its not like her to drop the F bomb
halfblindcubbiegirl - April 6, 2009
me? I didn't drop it (today anyway)
Emelie - April 6, 2009
"aww fuck"
isn’t dropping the f bomb?

Emelie - April 6, 2009
i have no excuse
i think all your yankee talk earlier got me confused.
i really have no idea how that happened.
halfblindcubbiegirl - April 6, 2009
Guthrie had terrible location on that one...
One of those “oh sh*t” moments as he watched head towards the plate I’m sure …
CubsWin!Oregon - April 6, 2009
Mmmm
Posada.
That was a good fantasy pick-up yesterday, If I do say-so myself, after mauer went to the DL.
EJThunder - April 6, 2009
JOE MORGAN JUST SAID THIS:
“YOU’RE NOT GONNA MAKE UP GROUND WITH 12 STRAIGHT SINGLES.”
The Yankees are down 6-2, and he just said this. Now, correct me if I’m wrong…but wouldn’t 12 straight singles result in…
NINE F-ING STRAIGHT RUNS?!!!!!!
FUCK YOU JOE MORGAN. IDIOT.
dtpollitt - April 6, 2009
You succeeded in censoring it the first time.
Second time? Not so much.
haha
EJThunder - April 6, 2009
You know something,
Ernie Banks wouldn’t have had so many homeruns if it wasn’t for that goddman basket.
neverAcquiesce - April 6, 2009
Godd man?
lmao
halfblindcubbiegirl - April 6, 2009
Awesome.
neverAcquiesce - April 6, 2009
haha...
Don’t bother Joe with facts. He has bigger things to focus on…like figuring out how to save the world from evil, or working in something self-aggrandizing into his television broadcast…
CubsWin!Oregon - April 6, 2009

Jayo525 - April 6, 2009
My house is at that bad temperature
Where it’s too hot without a fan on but it’s too cool with one on.
sanantonecub - April 6, 2009
Izturis comes up big for BAL
sanantonecub - April 6, 2009
Where was the 3rd base coach on that?

Zeke - April 6, 2009
Roberts just got TOOTBLAN'd
NittanyCub - April 6, 2009
Early season baseball is so funny....
That was the second or third run down/pickle I’ve seen today. These guys are either a little rusty or just way to jazzed up and being incautious…or all the above, I guess… Makes it interesting though.
CubsWin!Oregon - April 6, 2009
Did you see Lee's whopper of a game today?
7 earned through 5. Last year, it took him 59.1 innings to get that
NittanyCub - April 6, 2009
Yeah.
Was not a pretty day for the Tribe…Been some fun games though today. Pirates and Cardinals are in a good one too right now. Hopefully the Bucs can come back.
CubsWin!Oregon - April 6, 2009
it appears that Marty's best fans in baseball
Just let a few stray ball make it on the field, right after they hit a go ahead homer.
nji232 - April 6, 2009
Off to Kelly's Bar

One great thing about opening day...
Full houses, even in cities like Baltimore and Cincinnati and Pittsburgh… Florida doesn’t deserve a team since they can’t even sell out opening day.
sanantonecub - April 6, 2009
+1
neverAcquiesce - April 6, 2009
Send 'em to Portland!
We’ll gladly take them! (No need to check with anyone else up there. Rob Neyer and I speak for the city.) Surely we can get them to back out of this whole stadium deal…
CubsWin!Oregon - April 6, 2009
Dear Matsui....
Die. That is all.
