Let’s revisit the whole ridiculousness of batting our best power hitter in the leadoff position.

When Soto is there to give this team seeminly unending power throughout the lineup, it doesn’t really matter where you bat Soriano (ok, it does… but we lost that battle a long time ago). Theriot batting 7th is not going to generate the kind of offense this team needs to keep games like last night from happening. This team is doomed to countless solo shots from Soriano… which will not carry this team anywhere… especially with the pitcher spot and Koyie Hill leading into him. And if Fukudome doesn’t start hitting, teams will have no reason to pitch to him.

Theriot isn’t a world beater as far as a leadoff hitter goes, but it’s only appropriate allocation of resources to use him first or second and move Soriano to third-sixth, depending on how Lee, Ramirez, etc are producing.

I hope I’m wrong and the Cubs find ways to score 5+ runs with this configuration, I’m just not optimistic about it.

this is a brand new horse brought on by losing one of our best hitters last night and being forced to replace him with Koyie Hill. I don’t want to see this team losing 3-2 ball games to inferior competition. Just because we’ll still win the division by 5 games with or without Soto, doesn’t mean I don’t want to find ways to win by 10.

It sounds like he’ll be back by Friday. If he’s going to be out for an extended amount of time THEN you start experimenting with the lineup if you’re struggling to score runs.

But we’ve lost 1 game. 1. Soto hasn’t even been out for a whole game yet.

When we have our full lineup the guys at the bottom of the order get on base a lot, Theriot and Soto will get on, the pitcher can bunt them over/drive them in and then Soriano comes up with runners on.
