way lower than the grand-stand and several surrounding buildings. Now, the people in the stands on those surrounding buildings, THEY might be in danger.
the distance of the lightning is how long it takes the SOUND to reach your ears from when you hear it. 1 second = 1 mile. The lightning heads to the ground, not Wrigley Field several miles away.
Thunder is the sound of the bolt of lightning streaking through the air. That’s through the air wherever it strikes. It’s not about a comparison between the speed of light and speed of sound.
One way is to count the seconds from a lightning strike until you hear the thunder and then divide the number by five. This supposedly tells you how many miles the storm is from your location.***Another interesting point: Lightning registers as radio waves; you should hear static on your radio whenever lightening strikes in your general area. You can count the seconds from the static you hear on the radio until you hear thunder, divide by five and find out how far away the storm is.
it doesn’t work like that. Lightning doesn’t emit from a central source like sunlight does. It’s caused by local weather conditions, and it takes time for those conditions to move in space.
Lightning and Thunder
Thunder and lightning go together better than peanut butter and jelly. You can’t have thunder without lightning!
What is Lightning?
Lightning is a bright flash of electricity created by a thunderstorm. All thunderstorms produce lightning and are very dangerous. If you hear the sound of thunder, then you are in danger from lightning. Lightning injures or kills more people each year than hurricanes or tornadoes.
What Causes Lightning?
Inside a thunder cloud, many tiny bits of ice (frozen raindrops) bump into each other as they move around in the air. All of those collisions create an electric charge. After a while, the whole cloud fills up with electrical charges. The positive charges or protons form at the top of the cloud and the negative charges or electrons form at the bottom of the cloud. Since opposites attract, that causes a positive charge to build up on the ground beneath the cloud. The ground’s electrical charge concentrates around anything that sticks up, such as mountains, people, or single trees. The charge coming up from these points eventually connects with a charge reaching down from the clouds and lightning strikes.
How Hot is Lightning?
Lightning is approximately 54,000 degrees Fahrenheit. That is six times hotter than the surface of the sun.
What Color is Lightning?
Lightning seems to be clear or a white-yellow color. Its appearance depends on the background you see it against.
What Causes Thunder?
Thunder is caused by lightning — you can’t have thunder without it. When a lightning bolt travels from a cloud to the ground, it opens up a little hole in the air, called a channel. Once the lightning disappears, the air collapses back into the hole and creates a sound wave that we hear as thunder. The reason we see lightning before we hear thunder is because light travels faster than sound.
Can Thunder Tell You How Far Away a Storm Is?
Yes, you can use thunder to tell how far away a storm is. Next time you see a storm, count the number of seconds between when you see the lightning and hear the thunder. Take the number of seconds and divide by 5. That will tell you how far away the storm is in miles. For example, if you can count 15 seconds between lightning and the thunder, the lightning is three miles away.
well based on previous weather reports, the inanity of restarting the game at 12:50 am, and my need to be in class tomorrow at 7:45 am EST, I’m going to call this a night, even if MLB won’t. I shall see you all tomorrow with any luck. ;)
All she said was that she believed that marriage should be between a man and a woman...
and the media is portraying her as an opponent of gay marriage, and slamming her as a homophobe. All she said was that she beieves that marriage should be between a man and a woman…
Forgetting the literal politics of Miss C. I think something about saying the devil was out to get her turned me off
unless she was referring to Tony LaRussa.
but Al would kill me. However forgetting any politics, beauty contestants are supposed to be like the BCB and avoid politics. The correct answer to that question would be something like " I have my own personal opinion but I think it is up to states/voters etc to decide" If she had been asked something like " as a devout Christian do you believe all Jews and Muslims are damned to hell" She should also have responded politely that her personal views on that kind of subject were none of anyone’s business and she wants to work for world peace and to help special needs kids. It is totally inappriate for someone in her position to not only make a blatant political statement that was bound to offend people ( the same as if she had given an answer in FAVOR of gay marriage) but to then become an active spokesperson for a political cause.
Her job frankly was to look good and go to a variety of silly events and work with her chosen “cause” the Special Olympics. Again forget the specific ideology or belief, she DID not do the JOB she was/is being paid for.
As I side note she had told several versions of how her racy pictures came to be, none of which appear to be true.
How weird is it that someone’s job is to look good, go to events, and answer any questions asked of them by not answering them? Beauty pageants are so wack.
Not to mention the fact that just about any answer involves giving an opinion — the idea that states and voters should decide the issue is an opinion as well. She’s not asked not to answer, but rather to answer a question directed at her personally by accommodating all opinions but her own. To replace her identity with homogeneity.
Ironically, she probably could have got away with truly saying nothing on the subject if the conventions of pageantry allowed and conditioned her to assert herself more, to have some personality and humor. She could have dodged the question with dismissive wit, like JFK. But because she was trained to be submissive she got stuck in the corner the interviewer wanted. One mistake, and he’s used her for the sake of his politics. Beauty pageants are SO WACK.
but from the various clips that show on youtube etc I am not holding my breath for contestants with
personality and humor.
You can’t beat this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lj3iNxZ8Dww
…anything like what rolled through northeastern Missouri earlier, they can wait until dawn but won’t resume. At least 14 tornadoes sighted, one dead, lots of damage…and the same line has been marching towards Chicago all night.
But not sure what MLB procedures are re: suspension of the game or calling the game, since they seemed to change a few years ago.
we had one go down the road last summer (literally, down the road) less than 400 ft from the house. Lots of tree damage/power lines down with several people hurt from flipped cars.
Well, it wasn’t all that bad. I watched the Lost finale on my DVR while that all went on, and power didn’t go out once. Just a lot of rain and thunder. Hopefully everyone else isn’t too soaked or damaged.
21 years old and it’s been a very strange ride thus far.
Grew up in Tallahassee = FSU, graduating from there in August
Born in Jacksonville = Jags
Dad and family from Chicago plus WGN = Cubs
Went on ski trips to SLC = Jazz
Aunt/uncle from ATL, four hour drive from Tallahassee, and wanted to follow hockey = Thrashers
side note = I see how everyone finds the Tomahawk Chop so annoying if its not your thing. I especially hate how they’ll play the Marching Chiefs version at Braves game. Makes me shiver.
Another one of Deion Sanders' contributions to the world.
I don’t mind that they stole it per se (the KC Chiefs do it too), just playing the Marching Chiefs CD is a little weird to hear coming in as an opposing fan.
I make it a point to see all my teams at least once a year — between Turner and Philips, and going to the Georgia Dome for the ACC Tournament this year, ATL has some pretty cool venues.
flipping over to D-Backs/Reds on FSNAZ, Daron Sutton was finding time to insult the Cubs….
As the Reds were pounding the Snakes, Sutton says……"could be a three way tie for first, with the Reds, Brewers, Cards…..and look where the Cubs are, the team is that’s supposed to win the World Series…. Fourth Place….
That means they are currently 1 game off the lead at this moment, but why let facts get in the way of flaming a team….
Man, those who have asserted that Sutton is a real p***k are correct. There’s no reason for this type of “observation….”
Mark Grace, to his credit said….“Well, the Cubs are having some injury problems….”
Lou says he’s gonna rest a few people tomorrow. Hope that doesn’t mean we’re getting the AAA benchwarmer roster! I can just see it, Koyie, Freel, Hoff, Reed, and Scales. Better hold em to 2 or less!
Bye, TRL!

I found

drewishdrewid - May 13, 2009
Haven't really noticed that
But I always close all my browser windows at least once a day – saves any memory leaks that may be present from biting me in the rear.
Clutch16 - May 13, 2009
I haven't used it

I spent the better part of a year
Figuring out what makes Firefox the best browser in existence.
I have no desire to try out another one.
northernsails - May 13, 2009
Very happy with Chrome...
I was having major issues with Firefox recently…slow opening windows (minutes-long delays).
Chris Dobbertean - May 13, 2009
I crapped up my Firefox with a bunch of (very useful) extensions
Rather than kill them with fire, I just switched to Chrome by default. If I need Firefox, it’s still there.
Clutch16 - May 13, 2009
That's why you only get the add-ons that you need
northernsails - May 13, 2009
That's what I suspect happened.
It would also probably work far better on this new computer. One thing I can say is…I completely avoid IE.

Cubbie-Tim - May 13, 2009
NICE!
two straight BB!!
The E-Man - May 13, 2009
All right, Marmol, one more out!
Vermont Cubs Fan - May 13, 2009
ball one
to Gerut.
drewishdrewid - May 13, 2009
And he swung at ball 2
In the dirt
Clutch16 - May 13, 2009
However...this Ump is being a huge tool
there is lightning. MLB rules state that the game MUST be called immediately!
northernsails - May 13, 2009
or maybe it's not in the rulebook
but it’s accepted as the right thing to do
northernsails - May 13, 2009
it's a common sense thing
get the people/players and yourselves the f out of the way.
lightening doesn’t stop for blue.
Allie - May 13, 2009
but it stops for Lilly
Cubbie-Tim - May 13, 2009
LOL
rec’d
TheTruth11 - May 13, 2009
that was great
Danny Satan - May 13, 2009
doesn't it have to be
inside the stadium or something?
drewishdrewid - May 13, 2009
or more than once
Cubbie-Tim - May 13, 2009
...What??
You want the ballplayers to get struck already??
northernsails - May 13, 2009
no
but you can see lightening from awful far away, sometimes.
drewishdrewid - May 13, 2009
You still should call the game if you see it
because the speed of light is so fast that “far away” is an incredibly miniscule distance.
northernsails - May 13, 2009
I dunno.
However, it’s a rain delay now, so…
drewishdrewid - May 13, 2009
i know
but that would be common sense… which we’ve all learned MLB has none of.
Allie - May 13, 2009
hence my signature
Cubbie-Tim - May 13, 2009
I know that pools are cleared IMMEDIATELY
if any lifeguard sees a bolt, no matter where it is. Sports arenas should NOT be any different.
northernsails - May 13, 2009
except
that Wrigley isn’t filled to the brim with water.
drewishdrewid - May 13, 2009
doesn't matter
It’s a wide open space. Those players are human lightning rods out there.
northernsails - May 13, 2009
there's lightning rods on the top of the stadium!
drewishdrewid - May 13, 2009
but its open
and aren’t the bleachers… metal?
Allie - May 13, 2009
and if it were a dome
there would be metal holding the roof up
Cubbie-Tim - May 13, 2009
its pretty simple
lightening = get your ass inside.
Allie - May 13, 2009
sure, but they're also
way lower than the grand-stand and several surrounding buildings. Now, the people in the stands on those surrounding buildings, THEY might be in danger.
drewishdrewid - May 13, 2009
ty Lightening expert
can we move on to a different topic please?
Cubbie-Tim - May 13, 2009
that was unnecessary
I was commenting on the lack of player and fan safety in the MLB
northernsails - May 13, 2009
well..we are a reactive country
Cubbie-Tim - May 13, 2009
no, just
in the parking lots, seats or concession areas
brian custer - May 13, 2009
alright
probably, that’s closer than the strike was. There were several seconds between the “woah” of the crowd and the thunder.
drewishdrewid - May 13, 2009
I'm glad MLB bureaucrats weren't lifeguards
That’s seriously dangerous
northernsails - May 13, 2009
every second
is a mile. Cmon.
drewishdrewid - May 13, 2009
OK I'm lost... win or lose?
Emelie - May 13, 2009
How fast is the speed of light?
about 172,000 MILES per second.
What’s Earth whole diameter?
northernsails - May 13, 2009
you've had a logical fail
the distance of the lightning is how long it takes the SOUND to reach your ears from when you hear it. 1 second = 1 mile. The lightning heads to the ground, not Wrigley Field several miles away.
drewishdrewid - May 13, 2009
No it's not.
Sound travels at, maybe, 1000miles per HOUR.
They’re completely different. Thunder is the sound of lightning streaking through the air.
northernsails - May 13, 2009
yes
and every second of time that passes from the lightening strike till the sounds gets to you is ONE MILE OF DISTANCE.
Because you see the lightening quickly, but the sounds takes time to travel to you.
drewishdrewid - May 13, 2009
Ok, again.
Thunder is the sound of the bolt of lightning streaking through the air. That’s through the air wherever it strikes. It’s not about a comparison between the speed of light and speed of sound.
northernsails - May 13, 2009
The bottom line is
When a bolt of lightning strikes, it should not be ignored and the game SHOULD be called.
northernsails - May 13, 2009
it was a mile away from the stadium.
Bottom line — it was not close enough to be dangerous.
drewishdrewid - May 13, 2009
You dont know that.
northernsails - May 13, 2009
yes I do
because I could hear the thunder roll several seconds after all the people at the game went “woah!”
drewishdrewid - May 13, 2009
I'll say it again
that’s irrelevant
northernsails - May 13, 2009
and I'll say it again
it’s not.
drewishdrewid - May 13, 2009
Ok fine.
Mr. Swami! Tell me exactly where each bolt of lightning, that struck in the distance, was actually striking ( I’ll accept it down to the square foot).
northernsails - May 13, 2009
How do you tell how far away a thunder storm is?
One way is to count the seconds from a lightning strike until you hear the thunder and then divide the number by five. This supposedly tells you how many miles the storm is from your location.***Another interesting point: Lightning registers as radio waves; you should hear static on your radio whenever lightening strikes in your general area. You can count the seconds from the static you hear on the radio until you hear thunder, divide by five and find out how far away the storm is.
Cubbie-Tim - May 13, 2009
5 is a pretty arbitrary number
for something moving faster than anyone of us can even think
northernsails - May 13, 2009
headdesk
it doesn’t work like that. Lightning doesn’t emit from a central source like sunlight does. It’s caused by local weather conditions, and it takes time for those conditions to move in space.
drewishdrewid - May 13, 2009
ok
http://www.wikihow.com/Calculate-the-Distance-from-Lightning
Cubbie-Tim - May 13, 2009
now we all know Fox would never lie
http://myweathercontent.myweather.net/webhd/pkg/v2/template1.html?host=wjbk§ion=4&page=42&story=349
Cubbie-Tim - May 13, 2009
give me a break.
physics matters, ok? If the lightning were really close to the stadium, you wouldn’t have any delay in the sound of the thunder.
drewishdrewid - May 13, 2009
Len said
it hit the lake.
sue369 - May 13, 2009
Lightening travels a long way
its less likely in the city where there are things to attract it (all the buildings have rods, etc) but its not “safe”.
Allie - May 13, 2009
from that photo
you cannot tell how close the lightening is, so lets stop this and move onto something else
Cubbie-Tim - May 13, 2009
you keep missing the point
the sound of the thunder tells you how far away the lightning struck.
drewishdrewid - May 13, 2009
No, it actually doesn't
northernsails - May 13, 2009
yes
it does.
drewishdrewid - May 13, 2009
Actually
with the speed of sound at about 720 feet per second, it’s more like 7 sec = 1 mile
Cubbiefaithful - May 13, 2009
Ok fine.
It’s still not comparable to the speed of lightning.
northernsails - May 13, 2009
which is irrelevant.
the lightening doesn’t come from a single source to hit everywhere at random.
drewishdrewid - May 13, 2009
alright.
fair enough. But a mile away isn’t exactly hitting the Ernie Banks statue outside.
drewishdrewid - May 13, 2009
unless the wind picked up the statue and carried it one mile away
Cubbie-Tim - May 13, 2009
And by feet per second,
I meant mph
Cubbiefaithful - May 13, 2009
and we've had lightening strikes
from storms 20 miles away.
Allie - May 13, 2009
Seriously
You cannot win an argument defending the inaction of the umpires in not calling the game.
northernsails - May 13, 2009
I’m not arguing with you. There’s no argument to have. They didn’t call the game when the strike hit, 6-7 miles away. This is not a danger.
drewishdrewid - May 13, 2009
Yes, it is
Lightning from storms a long way off can hit you. 15-20 miles is not unheard of
chitownhawkeye - May 13, 2009
not in the middle of a city.
it’s EXTREMELY unlikely, anyway.
drewishdrewid - May 13, 2009
C'mon Marmol
ONE MORE!
The E-Man - May 13, 2009
strike one
FILTHY sliders.
drewishdrewid - May 13, 2009
Throw strikes!
Vermont Cubs Fan - May 13, 2009
Gerut
lines a base hit, and a run scores, but Giles is out on a running blunder!
drewishdrewid - May 13, 2009
no one told Freel
Soriano can throw men out at home?
Cubbie-Tim - May 13, 2009
Well...
better than nothing…
one run
The E-Man - May 13, 2009
No, one run is worse than nothing.
redward - May 13, 2009
pete's sake.
bottom of the eighth, and we’re up by two. Where you been all game?
drewishdrewid - May 13, 2009
As long as no Gonzalez again in the 9th.
The E-Man - May 13, 2009
Need to go 1-2-3
And Gregg likes his 1 BB per IP
Clutch16 - May 13, 2009
it'll be fine.
he’ll sweep the leg.
drewishdrewid - May 13, 2009
Well, out of the inning, but a run scores
I think he had him at home!!
Itchy - May 13, 2009
So 6-4 head to Bot 8?
Allie - May 13, 2009
yep
drewishdrewid - May 13, 2009
wait
what just happened. mlb gameday isnt telling me
bbates6 - May 13, 2009
the world ended
Cubbie-Tim - May 13, 2009
Single, a run scored, but Giles is out at third.
Vermont Cubs Fan - May 13, 2009
Gerut
lined one to left. A run scored. Soriano threw to Freel, the cut-off man, and Freel got Giles in a run-down. Third out of the inning.
drewishdrewid - May 13, 2009
gameday just updated
its easier to go read since i can’t copy/past. :-P
Allie - May 13, 2009
k
thanks all
bbates6 - May 13, 2009
7-5-4-6-5 put out
Run scored
Clutch16 - May 13, 2009
and thats one of the reasons i don't keep score.
Allie - May 13, 2009
MONSOON UP HERE

The E-Man - May 13, 2009

LAcarl519 - May 13, 2009
BALL GAME!

brian custer - May 13, 2009
Tarp is out

The E-Man - May 13, 2009
That run won't count
If the inning is washed out
Doggie Stalker - May 13, 2009
hey
sending the check tomorrow
bheidge - May 13, 2009
But are you benching your starters against the Cubs ?
Doggie Stalker - May 13, 2009
I am in the clear for tonight
bheidge - May 13, 2009
Well be on your best behavior
Until you get the tickets. Better not have any Astros or Cards on your team.
Doggie Stalker - May 13, 2009
is this all
one long euphamism?
drewishdrewid - May 13, 2009
We are caring on torrid affair
using a secret code and exchanging messages on BCB.
Doggie Stalker - May 13, 2009
Cunning plan!
aldimond - May 13, 2009
ugh I do have one Cardinal
Adam Wainwright. No Brewers or Astros though!
bheidge - May 13, 2009
so Marmol's arm gets those pitches back in October? :-)
LAcarl519 - May 13, 2009
Rain Delay.
drewishdrewid - May 13, 2009
we are all a little bit of Tom Skilling deep down inside.
(or his brother)
LAcarl519 - May 13, 2009
just end this sucker now
sue369 - May 13, 2009
Another rain delay?
Vermont Cubs Fan - May 13, 2009
Wait,
unless I’m losing it…
Cubs win?
slcathena - May 13, 2009
Has it been called?
Vermont Cubs Fan - May 13, 2009
No.
But it’s 10:13.
The game got through the requisite innings.
It’s a monsoon.
slcathena - May 13, 2009
if
the game is called, yes.
drewishdrewid - May 13, 2009
Okay.
I’ll be bold.
Cubs win!
I’ve had a crappy day, I can’t wait up two more hours to confirm I’m correct.
slcathena - May 13, 2009
We get this weather tomorrow, VT Cubs Fan (I’m in NH)
leothelip - May 13, 2009

KaliCub - May 13, 2009
Ok, time for that tape of the '73 World Series
WGN used pop that in on every rain delay
Itchy - May 13, 2009
If it gets called... would Marmol get a save?
lswaidz - May 13, 2009
That's a good question.
I’m too tired to look.
slcathena - May 13, 2009
I think he should get it...
Came in w/ a 3 run lead in what would be the last inning…
btw, hey guys… been down here in Peoria enjoying the storms rolling in!
lswaidz - May 13, 2009
that makes sense.
hmmmm.
slcathena - May 13, 2009
yes
WanderingWanderer - May 13, 2009
I believe MLB rules
call for a minimum two hour and twenty minute delay before calling any game.
Doggie Stalker - May 13, 2009
why not 2 hour 22 minute
keet withi the 2’s damn it MLB
Cubbie-Tim - May 13, 2009
Okay,
well based on previous weather reports, the inanity of restarting the game at 12:50 am, and my need to be in class tomorrow at 7:45 am EST, I’m going to call this a night, even if MLB won’t. I shall see you all tomorrow with any luck. ;)
slcathena - May 13, 2009

bheidge - May 13, 2009

i like him… when he talks football.
Allie - May 13, 2009
I never had a problem with him
until those Chevy commercials happened
bheidge - May 13, 2009
and happened and happened
and happened
Cubbie-Tim - May 13, 2009
yeah
those are really annoying and preachy.
Allie - May 13, 2009
Saturday I'll be in Wrigley... woohooooo
MinnesotaFan - May 13, 2009
Hail now... bouncing off my window a few blocks from Wrigley.
This one’s over.
AndrewJStone - May 13, 2009
can you guys send some of those rain clouds out to CA
we desperately need it!!
LAcarl519 - May 13, 2009
and Arizona, we need it worse!
AzCubfan24 - May 13, 2009
y'all can have it.
Allie - May 13, 2009
excellent, thanks!
AzCubfan24 - May 13, 2009
we'll trade you Miss California for a few days of heavy rain.
…what does Az have to trade?
LAcarl519 - May 13, 2009
What is it about her that people hate?
northernsails - May 13, 2009
so true
she has the same position as Obama but she is called all kinds of nasty names.
KaliCub - May 13, 2009
Yeah, I mean...
She’s hot, she’s thin. She’s traditional in her marital beliefs.
That’s the American standard.
northernsails - May 13, 2009
She has traditional beliefs, and isn't afraid to speak her mind about them...
That makes people uncomfortable, b/c they approve of everything, and have no personal beliefs of their own…
Jimmyeatworld - May 13, 2009
no no
I’m staying out of this one…
drewishdrewid - May 13, 2009
me too
lets ALL stop here.
Allie - May 13, 2009
absolutely. what allie says.
Emelie - May 13, 2009
agreed
sue369 - May 13, 2009
okay I'll stop
I have to go bowling anyway.
Hope the rain falls for the rest of the night in Chitown.
Later
KaliCub - May 13, 2009
All she said was that she believed that marriage should be between a man and a woman...
and the media is portraying her as an opponent of gay marriage, and slamming her as a homophobe. All she said was that she beieves that marriage should be between a man and a woman…
Jimmyeatworld - May 13, 2009
Dude.
we’re not having this conversation here.
theres a time & place for stuff like this.. and this ain’t it.
Allie - May 13, 2009
thank you ... not here
Emelie - May 13, 2009
I've said my piece.
Jimmyeatworld - May 13, 2009
She just answered a question posed to her.
And not in any kind of hateful way. I think everyone is going way over the top on her.
KaliCub - May 13, 2009
I also favor "opposite" marriage
which may explain why I have never been married
Forgetting the literal politics of Miss C. I think something about saying the devil was out to get her turned me off
unless she was referring to Tony LaRussa.
Doggie Stalker - May 13, 2009
Absolutely.
I’m being serious, I had no issues with her, why’d everyone else?
northernsails - May 13, 2009
I'm not getting into the specifics of the subject
but are you kidding? Because you had no problem with it, no one else should either?
That kind of explains a lot.
drewishdrewid - May 13, 2009
...whuh?
northernsails - May 13, 2009
I would answer
but Al would kill me.
Doggie Stalker - May 13, 2009
Continuing to forget any politics...
Beauty pageants are SO WACK.
aldimond - May 13, 2009
I don't watch pagents
but from the various clips that show on youtube etc I am not holding my breath for contestants with
personality and humor.
You can’t beat this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lj3iNxZ8Dww
Doggie Stalker - May 14, 2009
i don't even want anything in return
b/c if the rain keeps up at the rate we’ve been getting, we’ll need all your sand for sandbags.
Allie - May 13, 2009
TX can only promise no more Bush's in Office
Cubbie-Tim - May 13, 2009
Miis me?
KaliCub - May 13, 2009
LOL
Cubbie-Tim - May 13, 2009
violating BCB rules.... NO
Emelie - May 13, 2009
'night all
leothelip - May 13, 2009
If it's...
Tater01 - May 13, 2009
oh my gosh
hope you and yours are safe out there.
we’ve had wind and lots of rain, hail in same places.
Allie - May 13, 2009
that sucks
Finish the game in Milwaukee
bheidge - May 13, 2009
Hawks are off tonight
why not use the United Center. So what if it becomes line ball
Cubbie-Tim - May 13, 2009
Tornado went through about a mile north of here
Lots of damage… Many houses with no roofs. Totaled a car dealership
goodstuff96 - May 13, 2009
Where do you live?
Jimmyeatworld - May 13, 2009
Kirksville, MO
goodstuff96 - May 13, 2009
Tornados are scary
we had one go down the road last summer (literally, down the road) less than 400 ft from the house. Lots of tree damage/power lines down with several people hurt from flipped cars.
Allie - May 13, 2009
so...
we can’t post our traditional victory pictures yet, can we…
drewishdrewid - May 13, 2009
we'll just have to look at your avatar and wait.
KaliCub - May 13, 2009
get a good look
cause I’m changing it tomorrow.
drewishdrewid - May 13, 2009
But we like Max!
Allie - May 13, 2009
well
maybe I’ll wait till the Cubs loose. If we go undefeated for the rest of the season, I won’t change it!
drewishdrewid - May 13, 2009
A player on a streak has to respect the steak because they don't happen that often.
KaliCub - May 13, 2009
Did Uni insist?
Clutch16 - May 13, 2009
she's very
persuasive.
drewishdrewid - May 13, 2009
you cannot do so
we are on a wining streak, that might jinx us
Cubbie-Tim - May 13, 2009
yeah
see above. I won’t change it till that streak ends, hopefully in November.
drewishdrewid - May 13, 2009
but if we win in November
you have to wait until we lose a game in April then?
Cubbie-Tim - May 13, 2009
I think
it’ll be safe to change it in the offseason.
drewishdrewid - May 13, 2009
Not if you want us to win next year, too!
Jeez!
aldimond - May 13, 2009
if we're winning in Nov...
i can guarantee you it’ll be the first time we weren’t talking about “next year”
Allie - May 13, 2009
dangit he's a cutie!
Emelie - May 13, 2009
hey Em
Cubbie-Tim - May 13, 2009
Hi Tim :-D
Emelie - May 13, 2009

lexmarklover - May 13, 2009

slcathena - May 13, 2009
Brewers won, they are tied with the cards for 1st
KaliCub - May 13, 2009
Okay.
I’m going to bed before I vomit. Bleurgh!
slcathena - May 13, 2009
yuck
hope you feel better!!
Allie - May 13, 2009
You might want to reverse the order on those.
Especially if you share your bed with someone.
aldimond - May 13, 2009
night
sue369 - May 13, 2009
we're right there sniffing their butts like a frisky dog on a first date
LAcarl519 - May 13, 2009
Dogs have dates?
Clutch16 - May 13, 2009
only if they're
very good farmers.
drewishdrewid - May 13, 2009
LOL
LAcarl519 - May 13, 2009
south bend mishawaka
is going to get hammered by this in about 1.5 hrs
brian custer - May 13, 2009
Yep
Well, it wasn’t all that bad. I watched the Lost finale on my DVR while that all went on, and power didn’t go out once. Just a lot of rain and thunder. Hopefully everyone else isn’t too soaked or damaged.
Craig in South Bend - May 14, 2009
Anyone else here ready for the Western Conference Finals
to start?
Cubbie-Tim - May 13, 2009
wings v hawks?
brian custer - May 13, 2009
I am torn
I like home ice, but I want the Wings
Cubbie-Tim - May 13, 2009
wings need to
get past the ducks; will not be easy
brian custer - May 13, 2009
no doubt, Ducks playing tough
I also am tired of 9 PM starts, so that is me being greedy
Cubbie-Tim - May 13, 2009
wings have better talent
i think they can get by anaheim in game 7; at least i hope so…
brian custer - May 13, 2009
I think that is right
and that will be a great series. Wings can skate much better than Vancouver and Calgary, so it should lead to a lot of action
Cubbie-Tim - May 13, 2009
Either way, I hope it goes 6 OTs and severals guys get suspended for the next series!
Itchy - May 13, 2009
in the other conference
but i can’t believe how badly the pens beat the caps. that series had been so close.
Allie - May 13, 2009
andy mazur on wgn now
is saying peavy will be traded
doofus cubs guy - May 13, 2009
So
have they called this game yet?
Allie - May 13, 2009
not yet
sue369 - May 13, 2009
Time for some PS3
Harden vs Penny in game 1 of the NLCS
bheidge - May 13, 2009
and the tarp is coming off....again
sue369 - May 13, 2009
Oye
Allie - May 13, 2009
really?
drewishdrewid - May 13, 2009
ridiculous
call it already
brian custer - May 13, 2009
WGN
says they only have to wait 30 minutes after the second delay. First delay? Only half an hour, that’s the important part.
drewishdrewid - May 13, 2009
you beat me
camnorris14 - May 13, 2009
Wasn't the first delay 4 minutes?
Or was that even a delay…I couldn’t tell.
northernsails - May 13, 2009
I would guess the delay of 30ish before the game.
camnorris14 - May 13, 2009
especially after eating
Cubbiefaithful - May 13, 2009
Masur just said
that on the second rain delay, only 30 minutes wait is required before the game is called.
camnorris14 - May 13, 2009
That's an interesting list of fandom there
Almost as strange as mine.
Clutch16 - May 13, 2009
on that note:
packers? really?
Allie - May 13, 2009
Religion - can't talk about it
Clutch16 - May 13, 2009
but you always seemed so nice!
i didn’t realize you worshiped at the house of cheese.
Allie - May 13, 2009
Funny thing is that during the season, I hang out with a bunch of Bears fans
The big Packer bar in town is actually 17 miles out of town. While it’s fun to catch a game there, it’s really no fun trying to get back.
Clutch16 - May 13, 2009
I'm just glad you're not dirty viking fan
i don’t think we could be friends anymore.
Allie - May 13, 2009
That makes two of us
Clutch16 - May 13, 2009
+ Farve?
HAHA God I hope he signs there, I miss his interceptions.
I respect him, he is possibly the greatest QB (honestly, he didnt have a lot of talent to throw to mose his career).
Cubbie-Tim - May 13, 2009
Right there with ya, actually.
I can see the Pack’s secondary drooling and getting 10 in the 2 games they play the Vikes.
Or he could, y’know, just stay retired.
Clutch16 - May 13, 2009
he should have the first time
Cubbie-Tim - May 13, 2009
Sigh
I wish he would.
Give himself a chance to retire as a hero/someone worth remembering.
Nothing more painful than watching a guy hang on when everyone but him knows he shouldn’t be.
Allie - May 13, 2009
Ward last season
Cubbie-Tim - May 13, 2009
theres always one
every year, in any sport.
but its hard to watch.
Allie - May 13, 2009
Reformed
or Orthodox?
drewishdrewid - May 13, 2009
Orthodox
Keep the shrine to St. Vince, y’know.
Clutch16 - May 13, 2009
Haha, everyone says that.
21 years old and it’s been a very strange ride thus far.
Grew up in Tallahassee = FSU, graduating from there in August
Born in Jacksonville = Jags
Dad and family from Chicago plus WGN = Cubs
Went on ski trips to SLC = Jazz
Aunt/uncle from ATL, four hour drive from Tallahassee, and wanted to follow hockey = Thrashers
camnorris14 - May 13, 2009
who are your teams?
camnorris14 - May 13, 2009
if you click somoene's name
you can see their profile.
Allie - May 13, 2009
got it, thanks.
another Thrashers fan. cool.
side note = I see how everyone finds the Tomahawk Chop so annoying if its not your thing. I especially hate how they’ll play the Marching Chiefs version at Braves game. Makes me shiver.
camnorris14 - May 13, 2009
One of my objections is that it's not original
The other is that it’s tacky.
Clutch16 - May 13, 2009
Another one of Deion Sanders' contributions to the world.
I don’t mind that they stole it per se (the KC Chiefs do it too), just playing the Marching Chiefs CD is a little weird to hear coming in as an opposing fan.
camnorris14 - May 13, 2009
One of these days, I'll make up the tee-shirts
On the front, a Foam Tomahawk with the circle-slash, on the back: Real Fans Don’t Need Props
I wouldn’t even need to sell them outside Turner Field and I could probably still make a mint.
Clutch16 - May 13, 2009
Do it. I'll buy one.
What’s funny is that at FSU all the fans get it in unison with the downbeat and everything. 80k people doing it all in tandem is a pretty cool sight.
In Atlanta though, everybody is out of sync.
camnorris14 - May 13, 2009
i loved seeing the bleachers at wrigley
do it a couple years ago, even though it was way off.
Allie - May 13, 2009
Better rhythm there
And fewer little kids.
Clutch16 - May 13, 2009
I got my tix today for the series up there next month. Looking forward to it.
camnorris14 - May 13, 2009
Which series?
I may be attending.
Clutch16 - May 13, 2009
Cubs @ Braves next month, and Brewers @ Cubs July 2-4.
camnorris14 - May 13, 2009
I'll definitely be attending the Cubs series
Clutch16 - May 13, 2009
I love Turner Field.
I make it a point to see all my teams at least once a year — between Turner and Philips, and going to the Georgia Dome for the ACC Tournament this year, ATL has some pretty cool venues.
camnorris14 - May 13, 2009
I could take or leave the Dome
Especially for basketball. Turner Field and Phillips Arena are both a lot of fun, though.
Clutch16 - May 13, 2009
Agreed.
I’m off — class in the morning, but good talking to you. Always nice to talk to other southeastern Cubs fans.
camnorris14 - May 13, 2009
Have fun in class
Good talkin’ with you, too.
Clutch16 - May 13, 2009
they only have to wait 30 minutes
for this delay – cause it is the second – according to andy
doofus cubs guy - May 13, 2009
has it been
30 minutes yet? Is the tarp really coming off the field?
drewishdrewid - May 13, 2009
weather radar
shows chicago painted in scarlet/yellow. how can they play in that?
brian custer - May 13, 2009
Have to get going.
My DSL is being very slow.
northernsails - May 13, 2009
OT, but....
flipping over to D-Backs/Reds on FSNAZ, Daron Sutton was finding time to insult the Cubs….
Wow — facts from Grace, snark from Sutton.

Harden’s got the edge there, I think.

i don’t know if Harden could ever stay healthy enough for it.

cooltrev - May 13, 2009
if they made sense, they'd call it
but when dealing with MLB making sense, rarely happens.
Allie - May 13, 2009
But..
i don’t wanna go to bed yet!
everyone’s leaving.
Allie - May 13, 2009

northernsails - May 13, 2009
no problem
i really have no idea how anyone goes online without it.
Allie - May 13, 2009

Itchy - May 13, 2009
I think that's just an excuse to sit Lee and give Fontenot a rest too...
both have been struggling and Hoff and Scales need some PT.
santoswoodenlegs - May 13, 2009
