“Isn’t that crazy?” Piniella said. "Look, when the wind is blowing out at Wrigley and you can show some bat speed and get the ball up in the pull field, you’re going to get rewarded.
“The biggest problem with the steroid thing is not that the people took steroids. It’s that the people that haven’t get tainted, along with everyone else… And that’s why, truthfully, when they named Alex (Rodriguez), I thought it was unfair. Today’s game between the Chicago Cubs and Houston Astros at Wrigley Field has been postponed due to the forecast for inclement weather throughout the afternoon and evening.
The game has been rescheduled for Thursday, July 30 at 1:20 p.m. The Cubs and Astros were already scheduled to play a three-game series at Wrigley Field July 27-29.
Fans are encouraged to retain their tickets from today’s game until further information is available regarding ticket policies for the July 30 make-up game.
Information regarding ticket policies for the make-up game will be posted on www.cubs.com as soon as it is available.
… that once the gates are opened, people might lose their tickets, they could get ruined in the rain, etc. I suspect season ticket holders will use the “rainout ticket” we got with our season ticket package, for others, who knows?
Tonight: Showers and thunderstorms likely before 1am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 55. North northwest wind 7 to 10 mph increasing to between 15 and 18 mph. Winds could gust as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
This is what drives me crazy about the Cubs sometimes
They call the game at 1:15 when it was painfully obvious way before that that it wasn’t going to be played. Instead of jerking the fans around, why not just call it at 11:00?
Yes, they opened the doors today to sell food and drinks. I agree that it is a disservice to the fans.

All thing being more or less equal standings wise so CARDINALS MUST LOSE. Heck I would root for the Brewers even if Brewers were five games behind the Cardinals. For people of my “generation” THE CARDINALS ARE THE EVIL EMPIRE , the Brewers are an AL team that we are playing a whole lot of interleague games against. Damn those monkey schedulers. Do not let them fool you , the Cardinals AND THE METS are the enemy, our divisional rivals, the Brewers have a nice park we can use when the weather is bad.
rooting for my kid’s team that’s named “Brewers.” I’ll hope for a long, extra-inning game that exhausts both bullpens, so they can split the series, and have the Cards beat up for our games with them.
I could see Braun getting hit at some point in the series, touching off a whole new Brewers-Cardinals feud. LaRussa is smart enough to lure Macha into one of those.
I liked a lot of those guys on the team, like Molitor and Yount and Fingers and (don’t shoot me) Ted Simmons. And if Fingers wasn’t hurt they beat the Cards in the Series.
Until the change-over to the NL, the Brewers were my AL team, and the Cubs were my NL team. Once Bud decided that Milwaukee just had to be in the same division as the Cubs, I had a choice to make.
I moved out of Wisconsin before anybody really achieved “thug” status. We were more concerned about baseball cards at the time.
Before I moved, I had established my cred by kicking the crap out of the big jackass in school. And got away with it.
I also didn’t live in SE Wisconsin – I probably would have caught some hell for it in high school, but I’m guessing that would have stopped once I started talking Brewers baseball just as well as Cubs baseball. I think I would have been fine, but I really couldn’t say.
I can’t stand the Cubs blue tops and the Mets eleventy-three different ones, but I still dig the Technicolor uni’s from the 70s. The Astros, Pirates, Padres, and of course the White Sox “pilgrim” outfits and our Cubs blue-with-white pinstripe numbers.
… yesterday I made several positive comments about the Cubs and I said…
the NL (has) so many very weak teams – Pirates, Astros, Nationals, Rockies, D-Backs & Padres
That is a baseball comment, and from what I see, a fact. The Coward was itching for a fight (or just plain itchy) and said that the six AL teams with the lowest w/l percentage were equally as bad. That’s BS and no one in sided with The Coward and The Coward refused to answer specific, direct questions on his assertion (perhaps not even himself believing his moronic assertion). The Coward ran and hid. Hence his name, The Coward.
THIS will finally get the talk of “DeRosa: Our Savior” done?
There are seven players aged 33 and older who switched teams last winter who have posted an OPS below .750: Orlando Cabrera, David Eckstein, Ramon Hernandez, Edgar Renteria, Jason Giambi, Mark DeRosa and Bobby Abreu.
Do what they did in One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest. Pretend you are watching the game. Scales hits it, far and deep, wow a home run for Bobby Scales. Up next is the hot hitting D Lee. Look out, nearly hit him in the head. the count 0-2, wait how can the count be 0-2 when one pitched nearly hit his noggin. Oh he swung at it. I guess he is not that hot after all.
Theriot’s thing is hamburgers. He eats a lot of Drumsticks. Have you seen those ice cream things? I’ve seen him eat French toast. I just follow him around and try to eat whatever he eats. He’ll occasionally take his shirt off and go in the weight room but he just works beach muscles. It’s not functional stuff that would help you on the baseball field. He goes in there and does bi’s and tri’s and chest, and then checks out his spray tan in the mirror.
Good morning, and so sorry I missed the first chance to watch Cubs game this year – postponed, and I was sleeping…
Anyway, I found my HDD recorder wisely keeps short 20min live report from Wrigley, showing rainy field and outside street, today’s lineup, and Dome’s highlight reel and comparison of his stats against last year’s….
Dome’s number comparison above shows ave, HR, RBI and OBP.
It is a double entendre. I am shall we say a BIG fan of Greg )Maddux ( um you could check this out (http://www.bleedcubbieblue.com/2007/2/1/92435/72323). Maddux nick named Mad Dog was known as “doggie” to his
fellow players. Many people on the list assumed that “Doggie Stalker” was only a reference to Maddux but in fact I am OBSESSED with the four legged variety and they are a little easier to stalk. I can’t have one of my own ( not enough space, time or money) but I am notorious for going after everyone I see on the street and I have never been closer than about 6 feet ( warming up once in Spring Training) to the “human” Doggie. Long story but there it is.
Also though Al and I disagree on the circumstances I had my real name, Jessica “stolen” by some poster in the A’s SB blog when BCB became a part of it. She was “grandfathered in” and they insist that no one on the ENTIRE SB Nation of baseball blogs can have the same name.
and so well dressed. I am still in the stone age re posting graphics but if you check out my profile you will see
my previous sig. I kept it for a year but decided to change it. I might put it back though. Maybe rotate new ones in too.
You can never have too many things by or about Maddux.
Okay random question for anyone wandering through..
Why is it bad to call the Cubs the “good guys”?
I was lucky enough to see others make this mistake before I ever had the chance to make it (the advantage of lurking for a long time before ever posting here I guess). I’ve gathered it has something to do with the White Sox, but have no clue what the connection is…
always refers to the White Sox as “the good guys.” Makes my flesh crawl. (And if Pat Hughes did the same thing for the Cubs, it would make me feel the same way.)
Baseball has been very, very good to me.

Good quote from Lou in Sullivan's article
Al Yellon - May 15, 2009
I completely agree with Lou
I really wish all the names would come out so we could just get over it.
Allie - May 15, 2009
I said this as well earlier
about how Theriot is likely just showing he knows how to hit at WF. Both his HRs the other day were pop ups that the win carried
Cubbie-Tim - May 15, 2009
Some of them
maybe “cheap wrigley HRs” but the first couple he hit were bombs.
I just chalked it up to Riot finally pulling the ball occassionally.
Allie - May 15, 2009
But what about the gusy who took
but just weren’t taking at the time of that test? Just because you weren’t found guility doens’t mean you are innocent.
jerry morales rules - May 15, 2009
but now that theres testing
its a little easier to give them the benifet of the doubt on it.
i’m as jaded as anyone, i pretty much assume everyone’s on something… but i really don’t care.
Allie - May 15, 2009
I guerss I'm saying
that releasing the names has nothing to do with getting over it. It would tarnish those 103 (and break a promise that was made to them) and enhance the rest that arent’ named. But those named could be as guilty as the 103.
jerry morales rules - May 15, 2009
I think releasing the names
would help us get over it.
from my personal perspective, those 100 someodd names waiting to come out feels like another shoe waiting to drop. Who knows who all is on that list? Could be a bunch of nobodies… but if they are somebodies, its time for them to all come out so that we can start putting Bonds, etc in perspective.
Allie - May 15, 2009
but...
wouldn’t you figure if they were sombodies they would have been leaked at the same time or soon after ARod? I know ARod has a tendency to be a polarizing figure and his always polished and sometimes calculating answers to journalist’s questions may have made him a particularly attractive target, but who’s left? The only real name of significance left that could come out of that list that would be devastating would be Pujols and maybe Big Papi.
CubFan81 - May 15, 2009
Nope
The fact that Arod was leaked says nothing to me.
People expect the worst of the best players… and general consesus was Arod = best.
There are 102 names still out there. Impossible to tell who they are or aren’t, until all of them come out.
Allie - May 15, 2009
I wouldn't be surprised
to find out that the person who leaked A-Rod’s name didn’t have something personal against him.
Maybe it was Guy Ritchie.
jerry morales rules - May 15, 2009

Here’s the article.
Al Yellon - May 15, 2009
Al, Telander has become an arrogant, lazy writer.

jerry morales rules - May 15, 2009
We don't.
But to put Ryan Theriot under that cloud is laughable.
Al Yellon - May 15, 2009
Yeah, if Theriot
were on steroids, more of his throws would make it to first base in the air :P
gwood - May 15, 2009
It is laughable
and I think that’s what Telandar (very poorly) was trying to say.
Bob Ryan was criticised a few years ago for associating Nomar and steroids, but those claims seem a bit more plausible now, don’t they?
jerry morales rules - May 15, 2009
Theriot no roids?
Oh, come on. If the writer really is suggesting that because he punched out a few HR’s that he’s on roids, that is ridiculous.

Then again, it’s not really that bad where I’m at – must be worse downtown.
Still: SHIT
malicedoom - May 15, 2009
of course...
it’s just not right if it’s not seriously…
could you see how bad it would be if they did it laughingly?
tootle - May 15, 2009
I'm sure there are videos...
malicedoom - May 15, 2009
I'm just glad you didn't write "Literally."

that would be an invitation to SWL

I seem to recall a story that I once heard about a Woman, a Donkey and Tijuana.

TheRiot Police - May 15, 2009
Well crap. I

sue369 - May 15, 2009
yep

damn. i really wanted to put that off for another day.
Allie - May 15, 2009
I TOOK THIS AFTERNOON
off…..To watch the game Oh well lawn to cut,,,,
cubs north - May 15, 2009
Yeah there goes both the game and that whole 'gonna cut the lawn when I get home' thing I had going on...
malicedoom - May 15, 2009
I trust you don't live in Chicago
our where you planning to cut the lawn under water ?
Doggie Stalker - May 15, 2009
No, I do - but I planned all this YESTERDAY. :)
malicedoom - May 15, 2009
Rainouts....
santoswoodenlegs - May 15, 2009
Nice
malicedoom - May 15, 2009
See...
the rain ever ruined that photoshoot. They should have just rescheduled it for when they could have a better shot.
CubFan81 - May 15, 2009
VERY

drewishdrewid - May 15, 2009
Everyone has to root for Brewers tonight
All thing being more or less equal standings wise so CARDINALS MUST LOSE. Heck I would root for the Brewers even if Brewers were five games behind the Cardinals. For people of my “generation” THE CARDINALS ARE THE EVIL EMPIRE , the Brewers are an AL team that we are playing a whole lot of interleague games against. Damn those monkey schedulers. Do not let them fool you , the Cardinals AND THE METS are the enemy, our divisional rivals, the Brewers have a nice park we can use when the weather is bad.
GO BREW CREW.
Doggie Stalker - May 15, 2009
for me,
the mets are the evil empire…. hated watching mookie, lennie, keith, darryl and the like.
tootle - May 15, 2009
Cardinals and Mets are Co Emperors of the Evil Empire
I won’t choose one over the other.
Doggie Stalker - May 15, 2009
An AL team that just happens to be in the NL Central.
Give it up, Jessica. They are divisional rivals.
Nevertheless, I do want them to beat the Cardinals 2 of 3.
Al Yellon - May 15, 2009
Sorry I will never fully accept the Brewers as an NL team
and in any event they will never rise to any level of hatred towards them. Mild annoyance at best.
Doggie Stalker - May 15, 2009
So does that mean you'll sell off your tickets...
… if the Cubs ever play them in the NLCS?
Al Yellon - May 15, 2009
If so
I’ll buy them. ;)
slcathena - May 15, 2009
No I will just assume it is the WS
and not the NLCS
Doggie Stalker - May 15, 2009
So what happens when they beat the Brewers?
You’d give me your World Series tickets then, right?
Al Yellon - May 15, 2009
I am only rooting for an 18 innning game.
KaliCub - May 15, 2009
My mind agrees with you...
…but my stomach has warned me that uttering that phrase could produce an unpleasant result.
daver - May 15, 2009
I have a hard enough time
rooting for my kid’s team that’s named “Brewers.” I’ll hope for a long, extra-inning game that exhausts both bullpens, so they can split the series, and have the Cards beat up for our games with them.
drewishdrewid - May 15, 2009
Exactamundo.
We shouldn’t root for either team – we should root for short starts, high pitch counts, multiple relievers and extra innings.
daver - May 15, 2009
is it wrong to hope for suspensions, too?
I could see Braun getting hit at some point in the series, touching off a whole new Brewers-Cardinals feud. LaRussa is smart enough to lure Macha into one of those.
Bill Potter - May 15, 2009
I can't say
as I would REGRET seeing him get hit. But I wouldn’t hope for it.
drewishdrewid - May 15, 2009
Not hurt, just hit
A nice bruise on the ribs would be fine.
Allie - May 15, 2009
His eyes are bigger than Prince's stomach
CaliCub - May 15, 2009
So he orders too much food for Prince?
Shanghai Badger - May 15, 2009
I wouldn't wish hitting upon someone
(ok, in some instances I would condone it). But, should those two teams decide to engage in some sophomoric beanballing, I wouldn’t be opposed.
Bill Potter - May 15, 2009
I'm thinking it happens at some point this season
Shanghai Badger - May 15, 2009
At the rate Macha complains...
it’s bound to happen.
Bill Potter - May 15, 2009
That's a good question.
I know it’s inappropriate to root for injuries, but root for suspensions…? Hm, a true moral dilemma.
daver - May 15, 2009
maybe
LaRussa can breathe near an ump. That’ll serve two purposes — get suspended, and get the ump drunk on fumes. :P
drewishdrewid - May 15, 2009
Umpires are getting handsy enough
without the drinking, it seems.
Bill Potter - May 15, 2009
Make sure
not to cross your legs at the bar!
drewishdrewid - May 15, 2009
For Cub fans who grew up in Wisconsin
The Brewers are the enemy. No ifs, ands or buts. This was true even when they were in the AL.
Josh Timmers - May 15, 2009
It's more true now.
Shanghai Badger - May 15, 2009
+1
Fishbone2 - May 15, 2009
After last weekend,
I wish nothing but doom on the Brewers.
Macha is a hack. Braun is an ass.
Go Cardinals.
section229beer - May 15, 2009
Are you from Wisconsin?
Shanghai Badger - May 16, 2009
I'm sure it is
All I had to endure the Bambi’s Bombers/Harvey’s Wallbangers era while the Cubs were trotting out Jerry Martin and Scot Thompson.
Josh Timmers - May 15, 2009
Sounds like you're a couple of years ahead of me
Still, I heard crap all the time. In 1984 and 1989, I was accused of jumping on the bandwagon . . . .
Shanghai Badger - May 15, 2009
Which is part of the reason
everyone I know knows I’m a Cubs fan. It’s practically, “Hi, I’m Jeremiah, I love the Cubs, and you are?”
neverAcquiesce - May 15, 2009
82 Brew Crew was OK by me
I liked a lot of those guys on the team, like Molitor and Yount and Fingers and (don’t shoot me) Ted Simmons. And if Fingers wasn’t hurt they beat the Cards in the Series.
CaliCub - May 15, 2009
Eh.
Until the change-over to the NL, the Brewers were my AL team, and the Cubs were my NL team. Once Bud decided that Milwaukee just had to be in the same division as the Cubs, I had a choice to make.
I chose correctly.
Clutch16 - May 15, 2009
You chose
wisely.
neverAcquiesce - May 15, 2009
You clearly weren't tormented
by kids who thought that only losers cheered for the Cubs.
I was once beaten up and had my Cub jacket ripped by Brewer “fans.” (admittedly, they were more thugs than fans, but still . . .)
Josh Timmers - May 15, 2009
Couple of points there
I also didn’t live in SE Wisconsin – I probably would have caught some hell for it in high school, but I’m guessing that would have stopped once I started talking Brewers baseball just as well as Cubs baseball. I think I would have been fine, but I really couldn’t say.
Clutch16 - May 15, 2009
In Wisconsin, I thought baseball was just there
to kill time between football and huntin’ season….
San Diego Smooth Jazz Man - May 15, 2009

I'm glad you brought this up, SB
I can’t stand the Cubs blue tops and the Mets eleventy-three different ones, but I still dig the Technicolor uni’s from the 70s. The Astros, Pirates, Padres, and of course the White Sox “pilgrim” outfits and our Cubs blue-with-white pinstripe numbers.
CaliCub - May 15, 2009
Groovy
Can’t say I’m on board with a lot of that, especially the Cub road jammies, but I agree with the blue tops — get rid of ’em!
Shanghai Badger - May 15, 2009
Times change
I’ve seen polls that ask for these unis to return, dumping the current ones which have been derided as “generic.”
San Diego Smooth Jazz Man - May 15, 2009
Then they can look like their fans that live in Santee...
next they can wear caps with the upward curved bill and wallet chains.

I'm sorry, I can't hear you over
the jumbotron in your 2/3 empty stadium flashing MAKE SOME NOISE.
There’s plenty of noise when the Cubs are in town…

change the Wed, July 29th game to a night game since it will no longer be a getaway day?
They have a night game left to allocate.
cowsarecool220 - May 15, 2009
That's a possibility.
Al Yellon - May 15, 2009
There is NO day baseball today anywhere.
So we truly are SOL. Unless someone with a Playstation wants to run a sim game and give us the play-by-play. Just throwin’ that out there.

That was only because it was a Sunday night game.

I guess I’ll go be productive. Later.
Allie - May 15, 2009
Later!
slcathena - May 15, 2009
Its simple
Do what they did in One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest. Pretend you are watching the game. Scales hits it, far and deep, wow a home run for Bobby Scales. Up next is the hot hitting D Lee. Look out, nearly hit him in the head. the count 0-2, wait how can the count be 0-2 when one pitched nearly hit his noggin. Oh he swung at it. I guess he is not that hot after all.

*Warning, lots of talk about the new Yankee Stadium, but still very cool.
slcathena - May 15, 2009
Speaking of the Yankees:
why are they so special as to merit a special patch in place of the MLB logo on their hats?
neverAcquiesce - May 15, 2009
There's no MLB logo on caps.
It’s the new Yankee Stadium logo.
Al Yellon - May 15, 2009
Right.
Why are they allowed that? Or is “They’re the Yankees” sufficient.
neverAcquiesce - May 15, 2009
YES
network.
santoswoodenlegs - May 15, 2009
I think the Mets have one, too.
And so have a lot of teams that have opened new parks.
Al Yellon - May 15, 2009
I haven't seen the Mets with one.
Just that horrific sleeve patch. Every new stadium gets a patch but I’ve never seen a team with one on the hat like the Yanks have now.
neverAcquiesce - May 15, 2009
Hmm.
I thought I had. Could be wrong.
Al Yellon - May 15, 2009
This
article makes it sound like it’s their choice and MLB had no say in it.
neverAcquiesce - May 15, 2009
You're right.
Had not seen that before.
Al Yellon - May 15, 2009
It's still odd they would allow it though
when, IIRC, MLB has bitched about how big the numbers written on a hat to honor a deceased player could be.
neverAcquiesce - May 15, 2009
Agreed.
Al Yellon - May 15, 2009
Very interesting indeed.

Reed Johnson
posts in his blog.
http://reedjohnson.mlblogs.com/archives/2009/05/drumsticks_hamburgers_and_fren.html

All I could find on my HDD recorder...
Hope I can have next chance…
dragonsfanatic - May 15, 2009

Luis Vizcaino

I was JUST about to hit post on MY post of same. Jeez 9000 miles away and you beat me.
Doggie Stalker - May 15, 2009
sorry.. :)
so what IS the meaning of your screen name? Enquiring minds want to know..
CubFanInCanberra (9387milesfromWrigley) - May 15, 2009
Ah you are newcomer
Doggie Stalker - May 15, 2009
ahhh..
I maybe should’ve guessed the Maddux connection, given your signature line…
.. and I share my home with 3 canines.. one shown in my profile pic… :)
CubFanInCanberra (9387milesfromWrigley) - May 15, 2009
What a LOVELY dog you have there
and so well dressed. I am still in the stone age re posting graphics but if you check out my profile you will see
my previous sig. I kept it for a year but decided to change it. I might put it back though. Maybe rotate new ones in too.
You can never have too many things by or about Maddux.
Doggie Stalker - May 15, 2009
why thank you..
.. if only he smelled as good as he looks.. lol
I’ve bookmarked that Maddux post for later reading. Looks like a whole dissertation on him! :)
CubFanInCanberra (9387milesfromWrigley) - May 15, 2009
I think half a day would probably be enough time to read it.
Doggie Stalker - May 15, 2009
ugh..
someone else can post the bad news from SD…
Adrian’s gonna need to hit at least 2 more solo shots now..
CubFanInCanberra (9387milesfromWrigley) - May 15, 2009

5-3 now.. still batting in bottom of 7th
CubFanInCanberra (9387milesfromWrigley) - May 15, 2009

CubFanInCanberra (9387milesfromWrigley) - May 15, 2009

Rest of BCB is out partying on Sat night.

Doggie Stalker - May 15, 2009

CubFanInCanberra (9387milesfromWrigley) - May 16, 2009
but wait, I'm confused..
was pretty sure I was ahead in the time-zone department, and it’s only Sat afternoon here.
Or do BCBers party so hard that Sat night parties start on Friday?
CubFanInCanberra (9387milesfromWrigley) - May 16, 2009
Well in NYC they start Friday at 6PM
and go to noon Sat but I stay away and watch Cub games.
Hey isn’t it Saturday there yet ? Oh what only 18 hours ahead ?
Doggie Stalker - May 16, 2009
actually only 15 hours ahead of Chicago at the moment..
It varies between a 15 and 17 hour difference depending on which hemisphere is on daylight savings time…
CubFanInCanberra (9387milesfromWrigley) - May 16, 2009
Okay random question for anyone wandering through..
Why is it bad to call the Cubs the “good guys”?
I was lucky enough to see others make this mistake before I ever had the chance to make it (the advantage of lurking for a long time before ever posting here I guess). I’ve gathered it has something to do with the White Sox, but have no clue what the connection is…
Does anyone care to enlighten me?
CubFanInCanberra (9387milesfromWrigley) - May 16, 2009
Hawk Harrelson
always refers to the White Sox as “the good guys.” Makes my flesh crawl. (And if Pat Hughes did the same thing for the Cubs, it would make me feel the same way.)
