Which is strange, because they put up a very good lineup — but the decisions to go with Ascanio in a (then) close game, and to let Fontenot bat for himself as the tying run with Hoff sitting on the bench…. it all seems very un-Lou-like. If there were ever a time to go for the jugular, that was it.
Well, PH and the top of the order coming up. Maybe Lee can cap off his huge day with a bases clearing triple for the cycle and the win or something.
what I posted? I don’t know where the Iowa distinction came from. It’s a chop cut to 1 to 1 1/4 " thick and has always been called an Iowa Chop. Don’t know what else to tell you.
Geo 8 hits in his last 7 games, and has raised his average 30 points in that time. That being said, yes, he has left some hits on the table with some unlucky “atom” balls – right at ’em. But still, encouraging.
It makes me more ticked off about how they completely rolled over in the 8th. All those baserunners, and we found time for ABs for Fontenot AND Miles, but not Hoffpauir?!
Well, yes, there was no reason to bring in Ascanio.
But that’s not a strategy failing, as much as it’s just a player failing to execute. I have more of an issue with Micah sitting on the bench while Fontenot gets that AB in the 8th.
Fontenot may or may not be able to play every day in this league, but the fact is, he has completely stopped hitting at the moment, and should not have been up in that situation.
RAlly time!

Cubs have been acting like it's a getaway day.

He's been hitting it SO HARD
and right at them.
(And no, I don’t care that she said it.)
Bah.
slcathena - May 17, 2009
He's racking up hits lately.
Geo 8 hits in his last 7 games, and has raised his average 30 points in that time. That being said, yes, he has left some hits on the table with some unlucky “atom” balls – right at ’em. But still, encouraging.
D98 - May 17, 2009
I agree.
Would have been sweet for that one to be a foot right though. sigh
slcathena - May 17, 2009
They gave it a great run in the 9th.
It makes me more ticked off about how they completely rolled over in the 8th. All those baserunners, and we found time for ABs for Fontenot AND Miles, but not Hoffpauir?!
D98 - May 17, 2009
That's not what bugs me.
2 HBP much?
slcathena - May 17, 2009
Well, yes, there was no reason to bring in Ascanio.

I agree that fonty shouldn't be hitting there
I am just so aggravated that we could have held it to one with guzman, I almost can’t see anything else.

slcathena - May 17, 2009
Nice catch by Keppinger but it was within his reach
Acapulco Taco Pie - May 17, 2009
Keppinger but yes
Doggie Stalker - May 17, 2009
Nahh, he had his eyes closed when he caught it.
Opened them and it was in his glove.
Cubfansince1957 - May 17, 2009
Oh well...
Nice work out there today everyone, your comments were sharp and on point and I really liked the effort.
gridiron_assassin - May 17, 2009
You forgot that everyone gave 110%
Acapulco Taco Pie - May 17, 2009
Very true my bad
That was more in the 106-108% range though
gridiron_assassin - May 17, 2009
It's that hard work in spring training beginning to pay off.
Cubfansince1957 - May 17, 2009

Cubfansince1957 - May 17, 2009
good try.
lexmarklover - May 17, 2009
Well I got to listen to an exciting 9th...
and Cotts actually did his job for once.
What was the story with Harden? and Ascanio?
for full credit, you must answer without using any form of the verb, “to suck”…
CubFanInCanberra (9387milesfromWrigley) - May 17, 2009
1 Bad inning for Harden
and Ascanio was wild in his first inning.
cubsfaninatl - May 17, 2009
catching up a bit now
I see 2 HBP+ 1 WP for Ascanio… blech..
CubFanInCanberra (9387milesfromWrigley) - May 17, 2009
Ascanio sealed his fate with the 2 HBP but he did have some nasty stuff after that.
Acapulco Taco Pie - May 17, 2009
yeah, he must have had something
to get 6 outs after that kind of start…
CubFanInCanberra (9387milesfromWrigley) - May 17, 2009
He looked like a different pitcher
in his second inning.
cubsfaninatl - May 17, 2009
We also had chances early to add on runs and didn't.
After the first two Cub runs scored they had runners at 2nd and 3rd with no outs but couldn’t add on any runs.
Acapulco Taco Pie - May 17, 2009
that sounds kinda familiar
CubFanInCanberra (9387milesfromWrigley) - May 17, 2009
yeah, starting to be a frustrating pattern
Acapulco Taco Pie - May 17, 2009
Actually, they've done a better job lately
of tacking on runs and driving in men in scoring position.
Not Bruce Froemming - May 17, 2009
Hopefully
this is the start of something good for D-Lee at least..
CubFanInCanberra (9387milesfromWrigley) - May 17, 2009
I sure hope so.
sue369 - May 17, 2009
And we can hope
that SD can complete the sweep of the Reds. Pads leading 2-1 after 6…
How funny would that be?
CubFanInCanberra (9387milesfromWrigley) - May 17, 2009
The off day tomorrow is going to be so BORING.
Doggie Stalker - May 17, 2009
Off day?!?!!
sheesh, I’m actually gonna have to work or something…
CubFanInCanberra (9387milesfromWrigley) - May 17, 2009
Keep an eye on Cards/Brewers game
Hopefully 22 innings in which the Cardinals are forced to use a starter in relief.
Doggie Stalker - May 17, 2009
I like your thinking
CubFanInCanberra (9387milesfromWrigley) - May 17, 2009
Padres finish sweep of Reds
Our future 5th starter pitched a complete game.
