It's going to be sunny today. This time, the forecasters promise. Let's hold them to that -- a sunny day with a dry field may be just the ticket to get Aramis Ramirez back in the lineup. He did pinch-hit yesterday.
Alfonso Soriano remembers what it's like to come to the Cubs as a free agent and get off to a bad start, and has some advice for Milton Bradley:
"Sometimes people come here with a lot of expectations and they try to do too much," Soriano said. "That's not the right way to go. Just play regular, normal baseball and do what you can do."
Remember Soriano's first month as a Cub in April 2007? He hit .270, but with one homer and two RBI. He wound up with 33 homers, 14 of them in September (a club record) and he carried the team into the playoffs. And he missed 27 games.
The Cubs are, as is just about everyone else, getting some common-sense advice about avoiding swine flu:
"We've had a couple of simple meetings about washing your hands, cleanliness, all the recommendations you've heard about," trainer Mark O'Neal said.
Sports teams would seem susceptible to the spread of germs, given the close proximity of players and coaches in the clubhouse, plus the fact they share a food room, weight room and training room.
The Cubs, as have all teams, received memos from the Center for Disease Control ( CDC) and have been in contact with infectious disease doctors at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. They do not have stockpiles of medicine or antibiotics.
Hope you are all healthy. Onward to this afternoon's game:

That looks like a baseball obscuring part of the left side of the photo of Anibal Sanchez. Why they left this in the photo, I have no idea. Sanchez has one career start vs. the Cubs, a 2-1 win over Sean Marshall last August 16. He has faced only one Cub for more than 3 AB -- Alfonso Soriano, who was in the NL East with him for a year with the Nats. Sori has homered twice in 13 AB against Sanchez.
Ted Lilly gave up four homers in his first start in Houston, but has allowed only one since. Frankly, he's been the Cubs' most consistent starter this year, even though he got cuffed around a bit by the Diamondbacks in his last outing. He is 2-3, 3.96 in nine lifetime appearances (six starts) vs. Florida; the last time he faced them was during the 2007 season's pennant stretch, on September 25, 2007 in Miami. Expect to see Ronny Paulino behind the plate today -- he is 6-for-10 vs. Ted lifetime, with a homer. Dan Uggla has homered twice off Lilly in five career AB.
Today's game is back on cable, in both Chicago (CSN) and south Florida (FSN). However, that won't help you unless you live in the local coverage areas for those channels, because Saturday games before 6 pm CT are blacked out on MLB Extra Innings thanks to Bud's Stupid Blackout Rules. I believe -- but am not 100% certain -- that if you have MLB.TV you can see the game via the MLB.com Mediacenter. Reports from the field appreciated.

Go cubs!!
wrigleyrocker12 - May 2, 2009
I understand that after Mark O'Neal made the speech about washing hands and hygiene,
Moises Alou asked for equal time to come in and give the opposing view on washing hands.
Maybe piss hands would help?
LAcarl519 - May 2, 2009
Update on Hanley Ramirez
He will be starting today.
wrigleyrocker12 - May 2, 2009
Huzzzah!!!!!
A game starting at 6pm local time!! Woot! And thanks to the joys of being in Europe, I have no blackout through MLB.tv… I just have to put up with being 30 seconds behind the rest of you fools in the game threads.

I was flying from Burlington-Philadelphia on Thursday,
And there was a guy on the plane who was wearing a Cubs cap. It turns out he is going to the game today.
Vermont Cubs Fan - May 2, 2009
Saw a bunch of Marlins fans on Michigan Ave this morning...
Kinda weird…
PurpleLineToWrigley - May 2, 2009
That's odd...
Reports are you can walk through Miami’s stadium during a game and not see a bunch of Marlins fans.

GO CUBS GO!!!
Well I slept through most of yesterdays game because I was still stuck on night shift sleep schedule and I might do the same today since I’ve only had about 4 hours of sleep….but it worked out okay yesterday for the Cubs!

LAcarl519 - May 2, 2009
I agree ... where is everyone?
Vermont Cubs Fan - May 2, 2009
Everyone must be in a state of shock

Apparently they are
I’m still surprised about that.
Vermont Cubs Fan - May 2, 2009

Crap, Angels at Stankees starts at same time as Cubs.
Seems like I will be blacked out from the mlb.comTV feed.
Thanks, Thud Selig! Do you really think this will “force” me to put Fox on and watch the Angel/Yankee game? Me thinks not.
LAcarl519 - May 2, 2009
MB with the day off, Ramirez "almost ready, able to pinch hit"
Wind blowing out….
carmen_fanzone - May 2, 2009
That's good
I know the Cubs were not going to put Aramis on the DL. Hopefully, he returns to regular play sometime soon.
Vermont Cubs Fan - May 2, 2009
MLB-TV
Does appear to be carrying the game – yay!
Let’s play ball -
CaughtInTheVines - May 2, 2009
I mean...
….MLB.TV, the Internet video thing. Kind of a confusing naming system they’re putting together….
CaughtInTheVines - May 2, 2009
Havent watched a game since
I was at the game last Wednesday when we lost 3-0 to the Reds. After seeing bits and pieces of yesterday, I think Im ready to watch again. Yesterday was the turning point. Lets Go Cubs

NOLACubs - May 2, 2009
What is with this power surge from Theriot???
2-run home run, The Riot! Cubs 2, Marlins 0!!!!
Vermont Cubs Fan - May 2, 2009
Dome walks
Nice patience there
Vermont Cubs Fan - May 2, 2009
Sanchez doesn't have good stuff today.
Should bode well for us!

Vermont Cubs Fan - May 2, 2009
Ok.
Theriot has to be tested. lol.
Unique - May 2, 2009
Indeed -
Theriot HR’s: 2
Geo Soto: 0
The E-Man - May 2, 2009
Another single, this time from Soto.
1st and 3rd, 2 out.
Vermont Cubs Fan - May 2, 2009
I might have to pick up Theriot on my fantasy team.. lol
Unique - May 2, 2009
He'll hit above .300
Don’t hold your breath for another HR.
BTW, your kid has a great birthday…mine!
NOLACubs - May 2, 2009
so do you guys think
that there will be only one 31 flag, or possibly one on each flag pole. my vote is one on each pole.
laidbackliam - May 2, 2009
Well, that was good.
Lilly needed 7 pitches to retire the Marlins there. This includes a strikeout.
Vermont Cubs Fan - May 2, 2009
A triple from The Riot?
Vermont Cubs Fan - May 2, 2009
Come on, Lee!
Vermont Cubs Fan - May 2, 2009
it IS on MLB-TV
a pleasant surprise.
tedinSoCal - May 2, 2009
Taking a break from mowing...
Looks good so far! What’d I miss?
goodstuff96 - May 2, 2009
Theriot hit a two-run home run in the first,
The Cubs added another run later on in the inning, and lead 3-0.
Vermont Cubs Fan - May 2, 2009
Sweet
Hope we keep it up!
goodstuff96 - May 2, 2009
I don't know what they told him, but
Theriot has hit a home run and a triple so far.
Vermont Cubs Fan - May 2, 2009
Theriot for cleanup hitter!
puckishcubsfan - May 2, 2009
Florida Marlins had a runner on second after a balk with one out.
Two strikeouts later, he is stranded there!
Vermont Cubs Fan - May 2, 2009
Now Hoffpauir gets a leadoff single!
Vermont Cubs Fan - May 2, 2009
So I bench Riot for 2 days cause I need some power numbers
and put in Asbul Cabrera (sp?) cause he is more likeyl to produce power… but NOOOOOOO Theriot gets a grand slam yesterday and a HR today.. thus giving GREAT RBI and HR numbers… I just now saw he hit one today… well I guess the important thing is that it is helping the Cubs win, more important than my fantasy team
SouthsideCUBSfan - May 2, 2009
This game is awesome!
Really fun to listen to this, Pat and Ron are having a good time. Go Ted Lilly!
mlern - May 2, 2009

Vermont Cubs Fan - May 2, 2009
