Real easy night for me tonight.
Iowa Cubs
Heading back to sweet home Des Moines. Where the skies are blue.
Tennessee Smokies
The Smokies blinded the Chattanooga Lookouts, 2-0.
Starter Casey Lambert dominated for seven innings this afternoon. Lambert allowed only three hits, didn't walk anyone and struck out five.
Alex Maestri recorded his first save of the season by tossing the final two innings. Maestri allowed one hit, walked one and struck out one.
First baseman Blake Lalli was 2 for 3 with a double and both Smokies RBI.
Daytona Cubs
Went to bed, bumped their head and didn't get up in the morning. Rain out.
Peoria Chiefs
The Chiefs were capsized by the West Michigan Whitecaps, 6-2.
Did you hear that Chris Carpenter pitched tonight? No, not this one, I'm sure you heard about that. I mean this one. Unfortunately, the wrong Chris Carpenter had a good night tonight as the one on the Chiefs took the loss against the Whitecaps. Carpenter allowed two runs on six hits and three walks in only three innings. Carpenter struck out three.
Manolin De Leon made his season debut tonight and was pretty good except for one solo home run. That was the only hit and run he allowed in 2.2 innings of relief. De Leon walked one and struck out four.
Left fielder Josh Harrison was 3 for 3 with three doubles. He scored once.
Josh Vitters' streak came to an end tonight as he went 0 for 4.

Vitters didn't go 3-5 with a HR?
Damn

Brad Snyder is out at least 4-6 weeks
Not sure if this was posted before Josh. Poor guy has a broken hand. Seems a bit snake bit.

Nope
I think I said he was injured, but I didn’t know how seriously. Thanks for the update, even if it’s bad news.

Tennessee
Has an unbelievable stretch of games coming up. They play 4 double headers from this Friday, May 22nd, until next Friday, May 29th. Essentially, they play 12 games in that time span. Making matters worse is the fact that their next off day is June 10th.

Expect to see a lot of roster movement in the coming days to get them all the pitching help they need.

Yuck
They’ve had a lot of rainouts and now they’re paying the price.
Josh Timmers - May 20, 2009
Speaking of rainouts,
Thunderstorms possible here in DSM next 3 days. Hopefully they either hold off entirely or move out each day before game time. I may actually get to go to a game this homestand, though, so hopefully more reports will be forthcoming.

Wow, that is unbelievable.

do we know anything about
deleon?
i’m guessing he’s back from az and the extended spring training
tim815 - May 21, 2009
DeLeon
22 year old Dominican. Pitched pretty well for the rookie ball club in AZ last season. Yes, he’s been in EXST all year.
The bad news here is that he’s replacing Aaron Shafer, who went on the DL. Considering that health is the biggest question mark surrounding Shafer, that’s not good news.

What? You mean Vitters is human?

The Whitecaps
Serve THIS at their games:
Seriously. That mammoth is the true main attraction.
MrNFL - May 21, 2009
What is it?
Al Yellon - May 21, 2009
It's heaven.

Is that a...is that a nacho burger?!

Dumb question for Josh:
What mode of transportation do the I-Cubs use when traveling to “far-off” places like Round Rock? Is it planes, trains or automobiles? Thanks!
chilango2 - May 21, 2009
The I-Cubs
fly on their long trips, but they fly coach just like most of us do. No charter planes, no first or business class. Just going to the airport, going through security and getting on a regularly-scheduled plane like the rest of us.
Josh Timmers - May 21, 2009
Thanks Josh
I always figured so, but then I got to thinking about tight budgets and what not, and pictured them riding a Greyhound for 15 hours to Texas.

Chris Carpenter
I watched some videos of this kid after the draft and he looked solid. Looks like he could be a steal.

Any scouting reports on Josh Harrison?
I saw him a couple of weeks ago at the Fort Wayne game, and I believe he dh’d. His numbers are obviously looking pretty good at that point.
