So how many quality performances from our starters can we waste in one week?
I am really in awe at the ineptitude of the offense and there are seemingly NO answers at this time…..except waiting for ARam to rescue us….if we are even still in it by then….yuck
about the roll the Padres are on. Somebody said …’bring on the Pads!" Not the best idea, as this team is streaky, and they can do no wrong against an anemic Cubs offense.
I just hate when this happens in this town. I never hear the end of it. For 25 years, I’ve never heard the end of it.
beating us is the WORLD SERIES for Padre fans. It’s the happiest they get to be all year long most of the time. That’s what I tell them when I have to hear about it.
It’s even more fun than beating the Dodgers, for them. And, I can’t understand it. They play the Dodgers 57 times a year, but they can’t wait to shit on the Cubs.
We’re watching a 140 million dollar payroll completely self destruct.
Hendry better start checking the want ads because no way is the new owner going to keep him around after this debacle.
Lou seems like he’s pretty much checked out too-maybe he’s getting too old to deal with this-he’s probably looking forward to a nice, easy front office job with the Yankees.
But Soriano is still a bigger threat than Soto is. Soto looks like…a catcher batting. And particularly when you have a backup catcher available to play the field should you tie, I don’t get why you would keep in a mediocre/poor hitting catcher in that position when the game is on the line.
Like I said, maybe there were background numbers than I’m not aware of, but on face it doesn’t make much sense to me.
then fugg him, what did we hire him for anyway….this isn’t a matter of Neifi and Macias batting 3rd and 4th, this is a matter of highly-paid professionals stealing salaries!
I empathize with the emotions here but they are trying. The Cubs are still within reach and they have the best pitching in the division, so they’ll be in contention if not leading the NL Central at some point soon.
Lee is a quality person. He’s just having a rough go, he’ll get over it.
The bounce doesn’t even have to be that high. No Superball needed. The Cubs are only a few games out. They have the best pitching in the division and the offense will come around.
You’re overlooking any further injury, pitching slumps and making a huge assumption that somehow, someway this offense gets better and more consistent. You’re also refusing to believe that what started in the playoffs a year ago, and is continuing now, isn’t the new bar that has been set. The optimism is fine but you’re making some pretty huge leaps there when the reality may just indeed be that this could be the best you’re going to see out of this club this year. Betting on the come is a foolish bet.
Just kidding. I see what you’re saying. Going into the season I posted about potential holes on the Cubs and was roundly attacked. That said though, from what I’ve seen the Cubs have the best pitching in the NL Central and the offense will get going. So long as it’s not when the Cubs face the Sox I’m fine with it.
Here comes the do no wrong crowd....these guys are not getting it done....they've heard the criticism before.
it doesn’t mean that people are no longer Cubs fans, or hate the Cubs, it simply means they suck right now. Sheesh, what a bunch of oversensitive buffoons people are! The Cubs deserve all the criticism they get right now-you’re measured by how you perform….in anything.
You’re right…just one more game closer to the season being over. And one huge, glaring albatross staring you in the face…that of an offense that is absolutely atrocious.
The problem is your criicism is based off one week of performance. Before they lost 6 straight they won 5, and are still over .500. It’s baseball. It’s a game of ups and downs. Jumping on their backs while they’re in a down moment doesn’t do anyone any good. As long as they make it to the all-star break near .500 we’re still very much in business.
Take lessons from teams that players love to play for, like St. Louis, where the fans stay behind the team even when things are rough.
Have you ever read a thread at Viva El Birdos? They are just as likely to be on the ledge as any other team. In fact they had a similar ’can’t score to save their life’ streak right up until we played them.
Just one week? So you're saying that they've performed up to expectations all season? It is a game of ups and downs, but this team is underachieving to everyone except you apparently.
I could look it up but I think they had lost 7 out of 10 and just been swept by the Brewers and lost a series to the Pirates before that not sure if they scored 10 that week or not
Don't disagree....how can they play worse? But it's time to step it up against this schedule.....many teams get the AL East, we get the Fathers....and we're 0-2 in this series.
The Pirates are going to be in Chicago almost a week. Maybe they’ll get nice and comfy in their digs at the Westin (or wherever) and roll over for the Cubs.
Problem is, the Cubs have the Dodgers in for four next week.
Well, aside from the fact that he's a racist prick...
He tries to be a sports radio shock jock that doesn’t know the first thing about anything sports related. It makes me sad that anything Chicago sports related can ever be tied to him…
So those who haven't are wrong? It was a horrible trade and the team's fortunes are tied to it. Yes, moving on is an approach, but people are paid a lot of money to answer to these decisions.
So............................................we're better now with Scales and Miles backing up Aram, or DeRoand Fonty backing up 3rd? Apparently, I'm confused. This appears to be a non-argument to me.
Scales had a nice week or 10 days but I gotta believe his days are probably numbered with the Cubs. He’s the logical guy to go down if Fox gets the call.
Scales is a great story but I think in the big picture he’s not a super talented baseball player. Hopefully I’m wrong and he gets hot again…but guys aren’t just ‘discovered’ at 31 years old.
If they were winning I would agree right now Lou is probably pretty desperate for anyone that can hit. I don’t think Fox is the savoir but I’m guessing they give him a try.
no one comes up with bigger hits with more regularity than Ramirez. Miles was touted as a gamer, a winner from StL. He has not only underperformed, he has done it in the shadow of a beloved ex-Cub, which makes each weak ground out, and poor situational hitting look even worse. Hendry was and IS handcuffed financially, but the money he spent seems wasted and silly. If we had Scales, and he was capable of being a fill in player, why wasnt management aware of this and at least attempting to save funds.
I dont want DeRo. I want the team we have to take care of business. We have players on this team, but it just so happens the best one is on the shelf. I miss him, not DeRo
Take a deep breath and think about what you actually typed up there in the thread. No go back and read the welcome message Al has made for all of us who post on BCB.
When posting at this blog, please follow this one simple rule: Before hitting “post” to post your remarks, ask yourself: “Would I be embarrassed to say this in front of strangers who were physically present in the room with me and could respond to my face?” If the answer is “yes,” then don’t post. BCB encourages and welcomes all opinions, no matter how strong; however, personal attacks, vulgarity, and other uncivilized forms of expression are not welcome. Also, to avoid trolling and spam posts, there is a 48-hour waiting period before you can make your first post after signing up. Thanks for understanding.
I would like to direct your attention to my previous comment that got “flagged.” First and foremost, i would not be embarrased to say that to a room full of strangers. Second of all, my comment was not directed towards anyone. Therefore, I’ve come to the conclusion that certain people are just trying to pick fights.
Since BCB IS a community, you should know that free speech does not mean the right to say what you want, when you want, how you want, without being sensitive to, and respectful towards, individuals and the community as a whole. In a community, speech is not completely free; it comes with responsibility.
You cannot honestly tell me that you wouldn’t expect a reaction in public if you said “God really f >>> my life.” If you said this in earshot of children, would you not be surprised if parents reacted to you?
respectful towards, individuals and the community as a whole
My true intentions were not to disrespect people. If you really think about it, it doesn’t even make a difference because you can simply ignore it, but you chose to make it a big deal.
Sigh..........

CubFanInCanberra (9387milesfromWrigley) - May 23, 2009

bradley on third
Cubbinstrongsince86 - May 23, 2009

bradley on 3rd
Allie - May 23, 2009
For shits and giggles, I'd love to know
what the RISP numbers are for the week.
VolPowers - May 23, 2009
We've had RISP?
Clutch16 - May 23, 2009
a surprising number of them
given the losing streak we’re on
CubFanInCanberra (9387milesfromWrigley) - May 23, 2009
They’re bad.
Mike Martin - May 23, 2009
But you won't be giggiling
Cubbiegoon - May 23, 2009
more like for tears and screams
we’ve been awful
Allie - May 23, 2009
Called Strike 3.
Game over.
santoswoodenlegs - May 23, 2009
Soto Ks looking
Game over.
Clutch16 - May 23, 2009
Game Over
calicubfan - May 23, 2009
how do you take that? seriously?
VolPowers - May 23, 2009
Yeah
No need to swing the bat.
mattvegas - May 23, 2009
Yup - I ain't watchin' tomorrow.
Clutch16 - May 23, 2009
i'll watch
but i’m not doing game thread.
i need to wallow.
Allie - May 23, 2009
Look at it this way; we actually scored TWO RUNS tonight
The “Cubbie Swagger” is back!!
bluekoolaide - May 23, 2009
we scored one
Cubbinstrongsince86 - May 23, 2009
Too much blue koolaid.
mattvegas - May 23, 2009
Padre players and fans seem overly happy that they've won.
zevkalman - May 23, 2009
fake ass fans
1984 bs, mutiny !
Cubbinstrongsince86 - May 23, 2009
Thats 8 straight for them
louslovechild - May 23, 2009
You should have seen STL this week. The whole city acted like they won the WS… again…
Mike Martin - May 23, 2009
Fuck St. Louis
And their stupid-ass arch
Worf - May 23, 2009
Call it the “arc” if you ever want to mess with them. They get sooo mad.
Mike Martin - May 23, 2009
the Cubs have so many fans at road games now
that fans of the home teams really take extra satisfaction when their team beats the Cubs.
ElHijoDelRonSanto - May 23, 2009
How in the world did Bradley not score?
Worf - May 23, 2009
Hoff's hit
Was right at Gonzalez – the DP was over in a second.
Clutch16 - May 23, 2009
yeah, Gonzalez
was holding Hoff on. He caught it right at the bag.
If Bradley had broken for home he would have cut him down easily.
ElHijoDelRonSanto - May 23, 2009
Hoffpauir SMOKED the ball....
Milton really didn’t ever have a chance to score.
santoswoodenlegs - May 23, 2009
Yep. Just right at him
Funny how things like that happen when it’s going bad
Mapmaker - May 23, 2009
hoff hit it to first
don’t want to make an out at home while trying to rally
Cubbinstrongsince86 - May 23, 2009
It's Derrek
Lee fault why we lost the game. He’s in a serious decline.
Unique - May 23, 2009
Sarcasm?
calicubfan - May 23, 2009
I'm gonna go with 'yes' on that one
Clutch16 - May 23, 2009
Only a lot
Allie - May 23, 2009
I CANT TAKE THIS ANYMORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
louslovechild - May 23, 2009
okay
whatcha gonna do about it?
scream? go for it. i did. it didn’t make the team any better.
Allie - May 23, 2009
Score
I’ve kept score every game this year, but this one might have been my last.
Otsu48 - May 23, 2009
I foresee a future "Cubs Big Can of Worms"
featuring Geovany Soto…sooner rather than later
bluekoolaide - May 23, 2009
people named their kids after him
ugggh lol
jeff_pico - May 23, 2009
I'm outta here..
’night all
CubFanInCanberra (9387milesfromWrigley) - May 23, 2009
'Night
Clutch16 - May 23, 2009
Argh...
Why did Soto bat there? We had Soriano on the bench for pete’s sake. (Unless he has poor stats against Mujica…though i doubt it).
CubsWin!Oregon - May 23, 2009
Everyone has poor stats right now.
mattvegas - May 23, 2009
Relatively speaking sure...
CubsWin!Oregon - May 23, 2009
TED LILLY!!! I beseech you to stop this crap!
Let Ted make out the lineup tomorrow…..
razzpunk - May 23, 2009
He'll just bat nine times, then
Clutch16 - May 23, 2009
That would consist of...
Ted Lilly manning every position.
And the Cubs would win.
CubsWin!Oregon - May 23, 2009
Are you saying he can’t do it?
Mike Martin - May 23, 2009
Only because it's against the rules
Clutch16 - May 23, 2009
Actually, it's in the CBA...Ted is allowed to do that if he chooses.
santoswoodenlegs - May 23, 2009
It would seem only fair...
the CBA was negotiated single-handedly by Theodore while he sat at a Starbucks and catalogued the sins for which he’s forgiving us.
CubsWin!Oregon - May 23, 2009
Maybe he'll hit a HOMAH!
and another HOMAH!
mattvegas - May 23, 2009
How long till the Bears start training camp?
bluekoolaide - May 23, 2009
If Mt. Lou doesn't erupt tonight
then fugg him, what did we hire him for anyway….this isn’t a matter of Neifi and Macias batting 3rd and 4th, this is a matter of highly-paid professionals stealing salaries!
VolPowers - May 23, 2009
Right
I’m starting to feel ridiculous for letting a bunch of underachieving multi-millionaires get to me like this.
bluekoolaide - May 23, 2009
Nope
Miles, Scales, Fontenot and Soto usually bat higher in the order.
krummy12 - May 23, 2009
"highly-paid professionals stealing salaries"
I empathize with the emotions here but they are trying. The Cubs are still within reach and they have the best pitching in the division, so they’ll be in contention if not leading the NL Central at some point soon.
Lee is a quality person. He’s just having a rough go, he’ll get over it.
DrCrawdad - May 23, 2009
He happen to sort of hit a HR and single leading off the 9th tonight....
santoswoodenlegs - May 23, 2009
SHHH!! Don’t interrupt the “frustration.”
Mike Martin - May 23, 2009
rowrrrrr ROWWWRRRRR
CubFanInCanberra (9387milesfromWrigley) - May 24, 2009
I know, I saw it. It was a smash. Good for Lee, hope he keeps it up.
DrCrawdad - May 23, 2009
You're good people, Crawdad.
ScottieG33 - May 23, 2009
Saying something decent about me is a ban-able offense here.
DrCrawdad - May 24, 2009
Dr. Crawdad has impeccable table manners and a warm handshake.
santoswoodenlegs - May 24, 2009
YOU'RE BANNED!
DrCrawdad - May 24, 2009
No its not
otherwise badger and i would have both been gone a long time.
i have no problem with you… usually. :-P
Allie - May 24, 2009
How much shi# talking did you get here about Peavy Doc?
Or the 20-1?
calicubfan - May 24, 2009
A fair amount
It’s funny, usually when I say something positive (and I do it here on a regular basis) those comments garner little in the way of responses.
DrCrawdad - May 24, 2009
I've argued basball with you before...
…but I respect your opinions — Usually pretty well thought out. Sorry, I still can’t stand Ozzie and the Sox! :)
calicubfan - May 24, 2009
Can you please write something rude soon
I have a hard time believing you’re a Sox fan otherwise… :)
Mike Martin - May 23, 2009
I usually only respond in kind...
… I don’t know that I make it a practice to come and pile-on or post “rude” things w/o provocation.
DrCrawdad - May 23, 2009
Don't disagree about Lee's character....that's now what I'm criticizing...it's their performance that's been lame
VolPowers - May 23, 2009
hiya crawdad.
i think we need an “outside” view. do you think we’ll bounce back?
Allie - May 23, 2009
He just said they would
calicubfan - May 23, 2009
Sure.
The bounce doesn’t even have to be that high. No Superball needed. The Cubs are only a few games out. They have the best pitching in the division and the offense will come around.
DrCrawdad - May 23, 2009
Too easy
You’re overlooking any further injury, pitching slumps and making a huge assumption that somehow, someway this offense gets better and more consistent. You’re also refusing to believe that what started in the playoffs a year ago, and is continuing now, isn’t the new bar that has been set. The optimism is fine but you’re making some pretty huge leaps there when the reality may just indeed be that this could be the best you’re going to see out of this club this year. Betting on the come is a foolish bet.
krummy12 - May 23, 2009
Don't forget that before this losing streak...
…they had a 5 game win streak
calicubfan - May 23, 2009
Quick, someone add up what alternating 5 wins and 6 losses the rest of the year will end up being.
santoswoodenlegs - May 23, 2009
I think you're the one
making the leaps.
Not Bruce Froemming - May 23, 2009
OH NO! ARE YOU SAYING I'M A POLLYANNA?
Just kidding. I see what you’re saying. Going into the season I posted about potential holes on the Cubs and was roundly attacked. That said though, from what I’ve seen the Cubs have the best pitching in the NL Central and the offense will get going. So long as it’s not when the Cubs face the Sox I’m fine with it.
DrCrawdad - May 24, 2009
Thanks Doc
I hope you’re right.
And I hope your team gets it together too.
Allie - May 23, 2009
only 5 LOB tonight
ugh.
Allie - May 23, 2009
huh?
we left 10.
Unique - May 23, 2009
not according to mlb gameday
Allie - May 23, 2009
Gameday
Adds up the runners LOB for each player. Baseball counts what’s left at the end of the inning.
cubfred - May 23, 2009
It's called pride.... and we have NONE.
VolPowers - May 23, 2009
That sound like a reasonable statement coming from someone on the internet.
santoswoodenlegs - May 23, 2009
how many runs has this team that won the division the last two years scored this week? And you can criticize me? You're a douche!
VolPowers - May 23, 2009
santoswoodenlegs - May 23, 2009
You call yourself a fan and then write “they suck!” about your team. Pride?
Mike Martin - May 23, 2009
It's called frustration...
…and folks are venting. Chill out
calicubfan - May 23, 2009
Can we please "vent" with some semblance of logic then?
santoswoodenlegs - May 23, 2009
then vent
without being a jerk to everyone trying to help you.
Allie - May 23, 2009
I haven't been a jerk to anyone
calicubfan - May 23, 2009
didn't mean you specifically
but “venting” should be possible without being mean to everyone around you.
it takes time to type things in so the “spur of the moment vent” thing doesn’t really fly with me.
Allie - May 23, 2009
I hear you. Anger is to be expected...
…when our team has dropped 6 straight and scored 3 runns in over 40 innings
calicubfan - May 23, 2009
oh i'm pissed too
we really suck right now.
Allie - May 23, 2009
Anger is OK. Dumbness is annoying.
santoswoodenlegs - May 23, 2009
can't be honest
Right now the Cubs do ‘suck’ as a team. Lets hope they turn it around starting tomorrow.
jeff_pico - May 23, 2009
Couldn't agree more....if they didn't admit they'
VolPowers - May 23, 2009
of course they look flat
when you’re losing what are you supposed to look like? giggly and swagger?
Allie - May 23, 2009
my question is
why wasn’t hill in there if soto is slumping that bad.
Cubbinstrongsince86 - May 23, 2009
How do you make that call? They ALL suck!
VolPowers - May 23, 2009
I honestly don't think we could hit AAA pitching right now
and it’s starting to really look like this team’s quitting
bluekoolaide - May 23, 2009
It’s time for that. Soto needs to be reminded that his ROY doesn’t ensure him an everyday spot.
Mike Martin - May 23, 2009
they're all slumping bad
Lee is the hottest one
jeff_pico - May 23, 2009
Rest
It’s a good thing this team will be well-rested in October. Making those tee times would take an awful lot out of them after 162 games.
krummy12 - May 23, 2009
At this rate they'll only be 19 games back
Terrific
calicubfan - May 23, 2009
At this rate the Padres will win 129 games.
santoswoodenlegs - May 23, 2009
That would be a pretty good season...
considering their pre-season expectations. Would that impact our ability to get Peavy do you think? I would think yes.
:-p
CubsWin!Oregon - May 23, 2009
I hope the next feature SBnation adds
is a filter so that every post with that pitcher’s name in it gets something different.
i’ve never gotten so exhausted of seeing anyone’s name before.
Allie - May 23, 2009
It's possible.
But you’ll have to ask Ted Lilly when he designs it. :)
CubsWin!Oregon - May 23, 2009
All right, kids
I’ve got a good book calling my name. See y’all on Monday.
Clutch16 - May 23, 2009
later buddy.
Allie - May 23, 2009
look at the positives
at least they’re crushing our hopes early this year rather than stringing us along until October
bluekoolaide - May 23, 2009
Here comes the do no wrong crowd....these guys are not getting it done....they've heard the criticism before.
it doesn’t mean that people are no longer Cubs fans, or hate the Cubs, it simply means they suck right now. Sheesh, what a bunch of oversensitive buffoons people are! The Cubs deserve all the criticism they get right now-you’re measured by how you perform….in anything.
VolPowers - May 23, 2009
VolPowers is not performing well on BCB lately....boo.
santoswoodenlegs - May 23, 2009
This almost
made me fall out of my chair with laughter.
Not Bruce Froemming - May 23, 2009
LOL, maybe not! But at least I can get it out of the infield!?! Thanks for the criticism Woody!
VolPowers - May 23, 2009
Can you bat lefthanded?
santoswoodenlegs - May 23, 2009
If I could then Hendry would've overpaid me!
VolPowers - May 23, 2009
You're a man of honor. You would donate the excess to my re-election campaign.
santoswoodenlegs - May 23, 2009
Not sure what that means, but.....ok
VolPowers - May 23, 2009
santoswoodenlegs - May 23, 2009
i do!
but i’m blind in one eye.
Allie - May 23, 2009
That's 50 percent better than Aaron Miles right now! You're in!
santoswoodenlegs - May 23, 2009
agree
BUT on the other hand just cause they suck now doesn’t mean the season is over by any means, just have to keep plugging away and see what happens.
jeff_pico - May 23, 2009
Not sure when I said the season is over....criticism doesn't always draw a final conclusion you know!
VolPowers - May 23, 2009
Nope
You’re right…just one more game closer to the season being over. And one huge, glaring albatross staring you in the face…that of an offense that is absolutely atrocious.
krummy12 - May 23, 2009
I like you.
You’re nice.
CubsWin!Oregon - May 23, 2009
The problem is your criicism is based off one week of performance.
Mike Martin - May 23, 2009
Aren't we at .500?
or are we still over?
Allie - May 23, 2009
21-20 I believe
jeff_pico - May 23, 2009
you are correct
i had to go look it up
Allie - May 24, 2009
Have you ever read a thread at Viva El Birdos? They are just as likely to be on the ledge as any other team. In fact they had a similar ’can’t score to save their life’ streak right up until we played them.
jeff_pico - May 23, 2009
Come to St. Louis and I’ll take you to a game. We’ll see how often they boo a player with STL on their cap for striking out.
Mike Martin - May 24, 2009
Whoopity doo....
VolPowers - May 24, 2009
Cubs fans with a championship in the last 5 years might be as lenient as that classy bunch too....make a comparison that matters
VolPowers - May 24, 2009
Just one week? So you're saying that they've performed up to expectations all season? It is a game of ups and downs, but this team is underachieving to everyone except you apparently.
VolPowers - May 23, 2009
With all the injuries and players well known for slow starts, yes, this team is performing pretty much where I’d expect.
Mike Martin - May 24, 2009
Cards have actually had as many injuries, and they seem to be doing a little better. I don't recall them scoring less than 10 runs in a week.
VolPowers - May 24, 2009
I could look it up but I think they had lost 7 out of 10 and just been swept by the Brewers and lost a series to the Pirates before that not sure if they scored 10 that week or not
jeff_pico - May 24, 2009
They’re also performing way above expectations and won’t sustain it.
And they have the best player, manager, and pitching coach in the game.
Mike Martin - May 24, 2009
"Underachieving" is the key...
based on past performances, they will eventually begin to “achieve” at a much better expected level.
santoswoodenlegs - May 24, 2009
we hope :)
The whole team is BEYOND due
jeff_pico - May 24, 2009
I look forward to that very thing.
VolPowers - May 24, 2009
Eventually
you’d think they’d start going back to their career numbers. esp the guys with good track records (bradley, lee, miles)…
hope that starts now.
Allie - May 24, 2009
Every team will win 60 games and every team will lose 60 games.
It’s the other 40 that make the difference.
santoswoodenlegs - May 23, 2009
You just try not to do that in the first 120
VolPowers - May 24, 2009
If you going to say we're playing those 40 games right now...then you'd have a point.
santoswoodenlegs - May 24, 2009
Yep
I’m actually stunned by most of the posts I’m seeing tonight. Rational thought, no ledge-jumping … keep it up, gang.
Not Bruce Froemming - May 24, 2009
Don't disagree....how can they play worse? But it's time to step it up against this schedule.....many teams get the AL East, we get the Fathers....and we're 0-2 in this series.
VolPowers - May 24, 2009
Win tomorrow
And not only does the losing streak end, the Cubs go 4-2 against the Friars. But they also go back to SD for three games in August.
Not Bruce Froemming - May 24, 2009
Winning tomorrow would be huge
get some confidence back for when you go home.
Allie - May 24, 2009
Yep again
The Pirates are going to be in Chicago almost a week. Maybe they’ll get nice and comfy in their digs at the Westin (or wherever) and roll over for the Cubs.
Problem is, the Cubs have the Dodgers in for four next week.
Not Bruce Froemming - May 24, 2009
god really fuck my life
lexmarklover - May 24, 2009
and I'M the negative one!?!
VolPowers - May 24, 2009
Don't pay any attention to lexmark....
he’s the token alcoholic on BCB.
santoswoodenlegs - May 24, 2009
Ahem.
I’m insulted.
dtpollitt - May 24, 2009
that wasn't about the cubs
lexmarklover - May 24, 2009
I see....just a general malaise?
VolPowers - May 24, 2009
yes today was a crappy day
lexmarklover - May 24, 2009
well, chin up.....apparently I'm on the ledge because I dare call out the Cubs perfomance!
VolPowers - May 24, 2009
people can say whatever. it doesn't make them right or wrong.
personally i dont really give a crap about what people say especially certain people on BCB.
lexmarklover - May 24, 2009
flagged
Allie - May 24, 2009
honestly that wasn't directed towards you so don't pick fights when you don't really need to pick fights
lexmarklover - May 24, 2009
not picking fights
i just think this is inappropriate.
Allie - May 24, 2009
Not to mention theologically impossible.
santoswoodenlegs - May 24, 2009
+1
Mike Martin - May 24, 2009
You might be on to something
Mapmaker - May 24, 2009
tell me
what way is that affecting you? because you think that you’re like this person that like controls what everybody says. its really annoying
lexmarklover - May 24, 2009
Especially when I sort of run things around here.
santoswoodenlegs - May 24, 2009
I found it completely appropriate
+1!
Mapmaker - May 24, 2009
OT - If anyone cares...
…nail biter of a Dodgers/Angels game. It’s always nice hearing Vin Scully
calicubfan - May 24, 2009
Vin's special. Great announcer-but that goes without saying
VolPowers - May 24, 2009
I'm ticked he only does three innings on radio
81 years old and still solid.
Not Bruce Froemming - May 24, 2009
he's a gem
Allie - May 24, 2009
In hell Vin would have to work with Judd.
santoswoodenlegs - May 24, 2009
In hell, Vin would have a color guy
VolPowers - May 24, 2009
in hell
judd would be on loop 23 1/2 hours a day.
Allie - May 24, 2009
I don't want to know what the other 30 minutes consists of.
santoswoodenlegs - May 24, 2009
blessed silence, aside from the fire and screams
where you realize how awful judd is all over again.
Allie - May 24, 2009
lol
CubFanInCanberra (9387milesfromWrigley) - May 24, 2009
The other half hour would be Ken Harrelson.
Mike Martin - May 24, 2009
If you have EI out of So. Cal check it out
calicubfan - May 24, 2009
Not a Chicagoan, so I gotta ask...do people like this Mike North guy on Monsters in the Morning?
VolPowers - May 24, 2009
No, no,
a thousand times no.
Not Bruce Froemming - May 24, 2009
LOL!
Is that bait to start rants on that topic?
Mike Martin - May 24, 2009
No, seriously....what are your thoughts?
VolPowers - May 24, 2009
Well, aside from the fact that he's a racist prick...
He tries to be a sports radio shock jock that doesn’t know the first thing about anything sports related. It makes me sad that anything Chicago sports related can ever be tied to him…
Mike Martin - May 24, 2009
And only one guy
begging for DeRosa to come back! That might be the best part of this thread so far. :)
Not Bruce Froemming - May 24, 2009
I miss DeRo…
Mike Martin - May 24, 2009
he was very pretty
Allie - May 24, 2009
Buy EI or MLB.TV and you can watch him all year long.
santoswoodenlegs - May 24, 2009
???????
So……you think this is a better team without him? Seriously, do you? You’re basing this on his current numbers I assume?
VolPowers - May 24, 2009
It's not a question of whether or not the team would be better...
we’re just tired of hearing his name after every loss or bad inning.
santoswoodenlegs - May 24, 2009
I can understand that...but it was a horrible trade
it made no sense at the time, and now it really makes no sense with where our roster is at.
VolPowers - May 24, 2009
Most of us understand this fact....
and are just done discussing it. It’s in the past, we can’t change it. Some of us have just accepted it and moved on.
santoswoodenlegs - May 24, 2009
So those who haven't are wrong? It was a horrible trade and the team's fortunes are tied to it. Yes, moving on is an approach, but people are paid a lot of money to answer to these decisions.
VolPowers - May 24, 2009
I'll say it again
If this team goes down because it didn’t have Mark DeRosa, it wasn’t any good in the first place.
OK, that’s that.
Not Bruce Froemming - May 24, 2009
agree 100%
Dero would be a nice piece since Ramriez is hurt, but he’s not a season changer.
jeff_pico - May 24, 2009
How do you know?
VolPowers - May 24, 2009
When has he ever been a ‘season changer’ for any team he’s ever been on?
A season changer is a legitimate all star caliber player.
jeff_pico - May 24, 2009
Mark DeRosa = Manny Ramirez?
santoswoodenlegs - May 24, 2009
Mark DeRosa on the Cubs=97 wins.
VolPowers - May 24, 2009
maybe its Edmonds or Blanco that we are REALLY missing?
jeff_pico - May 24, 2009
Mark DeRosa= Dreamboat.
Mike Martin - May 24, 2009
This is a fun game.....
Felix Pie on the Cubs = 97 wins.
santoswoodenlegs - May 24, 2009
LOL. How many positions did Felix play again?
VolPowers - May 24, 2009
3
LF, RF, CF
Mike Martin - May 24, 2009
UH HUH
VolPowers - May 24, 2009
Find me the ONE guy on this team who can back up third in light of our present situation?!? Discussion over youngster.
VolPowers - May 24, 2009
Reply fail?
Or are you ending the discussion with yourself?
Mike Martin - May 24, 2009
Wait...I thought is was the offense that was the problem. Are we moving goalposts?
santoswoodenlegs - May 24, 2009
there are goalposts?
gawd. why did no one tell me!!
Allie - May 24, 2009
Oh yeah, DeRo hit 300 as a Cub
VolPowers - May 24, 2009
Okay?
And?
He’s not a Cub anymore.
Allie - May 24, 2009
and Fukudome his like 220....
and is hitting over 300 now.
santoswoodenlegs - May 24, 2009
Just how many more runs does Dero add to a team that scores 3 measly runs in 5 games?
Would he alone win 1 more game over the course of this first 2 months? 2 more games?
jeff_pico - May 24, 2009
So............................................we're better now with Scales and Miles backing up Aram, or DeRoand Fonty backing up 3rd? Apparently, I'm confused. This appears to be a non-argument to me.
VolPowers - May 24, 2009
I’m not saying the team is better without Dero, I’d take him back but I’m saying its not ruining the season by not having him.
jeff_pico - May 24, 2009
Is the argument I'm making that DeRo wins the game single-handedly, or that we're a better team with him on the roster
VolPowers - May 24, 2009
Can't disagree, but never underestimate chemistry
VolPowers - May 24, 2009
Winning
breeds chemistry.
The ‘86 Mets were 25 players, 25 cabs. Didn’t seem to hurt them.
Not Bruce Froemming - May 24, 2009
I do love that story.
Can we at least agree that his team was poorly put together based on the “what happens if?” scenario
louslovechild - May 24, 2009
Not even that
If you’re talking about Ramirez and injuries, 15-20 games was anticipated. Not two months.
Perhaps Miles was counted on to be more versatile than he actually is. But they’ve gotten some unexpected contributions from Scales.
Not Bruce Froemming - May 24, 2009
scales
Scales had a nice week or 10 days but I gotta believe his days are probably numbered with the Cubs. He’s the logical guy to go down if Fox gets the call.
jeff_pico - May 24, 2009
Why would you exchange a guy who plays
2 positions for a guy who plays none?
that doesn’t make any sense to me at all.
Allie - May 24, 2009
Scales is a great story but I think in the big picture he’s not a super talented baseball player. Hopefully I’m wrong and he gets hot again…but guys aren’t just ‘discovered’ at 31 years old.
jeff_pico - May 24, 2009
I agree
but he’s more useful than Fox would be.
Unless Fox is a really really good PH. Which i don’t know.
Allie - May 24, 2009
He's one of the few who is still having good AB's and he hit the ball hard twice tonight....
right at a defender both times.
santoswoodenlegs - May 24, 2009
Probably
They could just as easily jettison Freel, too, depending on who’s playing better. Although Freel can play outfield, too.
Not Bruce Froemming - May 24, 2009
Didn't see the Fox part
I don’t know if you’ll see Fox anytime soon.
Not Bruce Froemming - May 24, 2009
The only player hitting is Lee
Fox isnt going to be showing his face on THIS team any time soon. IMHO. You will see Soriano at 2B before Fox come up to play…..?
louslovechild - May 24, 2009
If they were winning I would agree right now Lou is probably pretty desperate for anyone that can hit. I don’t think Fox is the savoir but I’m guessing they give him a try.
jeff_pico - May 24, 2009
Agreed, but...
no one comes up with bigger hits with more regularity than Ramirez. If we had Scales, and he was capable of being a fill in player, why wasnt management aware of this and at least attempting to save funds.
louslovechild - May 24, 2009
Chemistry happens on winning teams
we looked great when we won 5 in a row.
hard to look like you’re having fun when you’re losing.
Allie - May 24, 2009
I thought that was a positive also
I dont want DeRo. I want the team we have to take care of business. We have players on this team, but it just so happens the best one is on the shelf. I miss him, not DeRo
louslovechild - May 24, 2009
Well put
Not Bruce Froemming - May 24, 2009
however misguided
VolPowers - May 24, 2009
hey guys i think i should flag people for the hell of it
since its really needed :) and it makes you a better person :)
lexmarklover - May 24, 2009
Take a deep breath and think about what you actually typed up there in the thread. No go back and read the welcome message Al has made for all of us who post on BCB.
santoswoodenlegs - May 24, 2009
i will cause i'm a little testy right now
lexmarklover - May 24, 2009
Would a nice little Cub winning streak make you feel better?
If so, tell me and I’ll make a few calls.
Mapmaker - May 24, 2009
In a word, yes.
VolPowers - May 24, 2009
yes.
lexmarklover - May 24, 2009
He made a comment you dont like....but as I recall he didnt make it AT ANYBODY in particular....perhaps it's time to lighten up a little
VolPowers - May 24, 2009
Perhaps it's time you also read...
the community guidelines.
santoswoodenlegs - May 24, 2009
Must I restate my original point....you can post all the community guidelines you want....what are you, the bus monitor?
VolPowers - May 24, 2009
nope. I'm just another user here like you.
santoswoodenlegs - May 24, 2009
i thought you and i were the thought police?
or something.
Allie - May 24, 2009
I see.
VolPowers - May 24, 2009
flagged
VolPowers - May 24, 2009
I've flagged everybody twice from two different computers
Now I feel better
Mapmaker - May 24, 2009
Could you explain what purpose you believe the "flag" action should serve and in what general circumstance it should be used?
Pretty please?
santoswoodenlegs - May 24, 2009
It's called sarcasm
Flagging is useless
Mapmaker - May 24, 2009
lol
VolPowers - May 24, 2009
And I don't have two computers
Mapmaker - May 24, 2009
But I do! Hmmmmm
calicubfan - May 24, 2009
I would like to direct your attention to my previous comment that got “flagged.” First and foremost, i would not be embarrased to say that to a room full of strangers. Second of all, my comment was not directed towards anyone. Therefore, I’ve come to the conclusion that certain people are just trying to pick fights.
lexmarklover - May 24, 2009
you would't be embarassed to walk into a bar
and have your very first words upon entering the door for the day be “god fuck my life”?
Pout a little harder.
Allie - May 24, 2009
no it's called honesty
if i felt that way then i will say it.
lexmarklover - May 24, 2009
I'll bet lots of drunks say that...
…on a regular basis in a bar. Lets let it go already and not re-hash it. Als gonna be pissed if you guys keep this nonsense up!
calicubfan - May 24, 2009
I'm done.
Allie - May 24, 2009
Was it good for you?
santoswoodenlegs - May 24, 2009
Actually
i’m completely baffled.
Allie - May 24, 2009
That sounds very aerodynamic!
santoswoodenlegs - May 24, 2009
I do not think that words means what you think it means
lol
Allie - May 24, 2009
I wasn’t the one that decided to just make a big deal out of the situation.
lexmarklover - May 24, 2009
Wow, what a defense....characterizing another's words as that of a drunk's.....granted, I found his/her comments odd, but c'mon?!?
VolPowers - May 24, 2009
It wasn't a defense.
Evidently, it was a failed attempt at sarcasm. Whoops
calicubfan - May 24, 2009
My bad. Sarcasm. Well, then it was funny.
VolPowers - May 24, 2009
You cannot honestly tell me that you wouldn’t expect a reaction in public if you said “God really f >>> my life.” If you said this in earshot of children, would you not be surprised if parents reacted to you?
santoswoodenlegs - May 24, 2009
My true intentions were not to disrespect people. If you really think about it, it doesn’t even make a difference because you can simply ignore it, but you chose to make it a big deal.
lexmarklover - May 24, 2009
I'm not the one who flagged it. I've only tried to help you see WHY someone took exeption to it.
santoswoodenlegs - May 24, 2009
Apparently
1 word = big deal.
Who knew.
Allie - May 24, 2009
Which word?
VolPowers - May 24, 2009
I said
“flagged” and it turned into this.
next time, i’ll just flag without telling you why or that i have. i just though a heads up was warranted. Apparently I was wrong.
shrug.
Allie - May 24, 2009
No, I was just asking which word, the f word or the g word....hard to tell these days.
VolPowers - May 24, 2009
actually
it had more to do with the fact that your first comment is at the end of a game and all you do is swear.
if you’ve been at the game all day, swearing is understandable. but logging in only to swear is trolly.
Allie - May 24, 2009
well i see why the person decided to flag me.
i just thought of it to be very unnecessary.
lexmarklover - May 24, 2009
I'm glad you can at least see the reasoning.
santoswoodenlegs - May 24, 2009
Me too....I wrote flagged because it seemed like fun.
VolPowers - May 24, 2009
flagged
VolPowers - May 24, 2009
We better get this offense straightened out before...
…the Dodgers come to town. My work is infested with Dodgers fans and the shi# talking will suck.
calicubfan - May 24, 2009
Anyone heard anything that Lou had to say?
Not that it means a whole lot, but was just interested.
louslovechild - May 24, 2009
Didn't catch it.
Sorry.
Wish I had though. I wonder what word Lou made up tonight.
Allie - May 24, 2009
Just need Pacino to come in now
“I’m flagged?! You’re flagged!! The whole game thread is flagged!!”
