I'd love to

get excited about this game. Give me something to get excited about Cubs!

What a miserable team to watch.
F YOU AARON HEILMAN
F*#k!!!
When you see

that from Sue, you know things have gotten bad…

I should say!!
I was hoping this would

warp me to a happy place.

Me too...

and then the first thing I see is someone telling a Cub to go F himself…sigh

Is this the Aaron Heilman Fan Club page?

Why is he on the team? Why does Lou put him in?

I hear he keeps Lou's car nice and clean
This is depressing but...

I kind of think he did it because he didn’t think the Cubs could make a comeback. If he thought we had a chance of winning, he maybe would have pitched Gooz?

what the stainssssssssssss
oh yes

bring cotts in that’d be just as good.

Ha, ha. Yeah. We've got a few choices here...
Is Patton still on this team!?
Theoretically
That's funny

It’s like bringing him in to pitch is akin to traveling faster than the speed of light.

Generally speaking...

Yes… ;)

Can this week end finally?

PLEASE?!

Unbelievable !!!

Now — can we all agree why Heilman was sent packing by the Mets? This is exactly what he did in the pen for them last year. Now he’s doing it for the Cubs.
If he isn’t on the first bus to nowhere in the morning, I do not know what else can be done.

i have proffered soulutions to

the aaron heilman; but nobody wanted to hear it; so that is how the cookie crumbles; aaron trys to groove the perfect pitch; and it hangs like a meatball sometimes

*&%%*()% this week!
Watching this team this week...

…makes me wish a fly would crawl up my nostril while I am sleeping and take me to hell.

I think this already happened to me in Saint Louis. .

having to watch two of those wretched games in person, having to hear those fans filing out of the stadium, arghhh. .

f'n a

aaron should have kept his balls in the dirt; this crap was a serious problem w/ mets’ heilman

I'd rather take the players out back and shoot em.

Seriously, can we even get any value in return for blowing this team up? Who wants a $48 million dollar Dome? Or a $30 million dude that can hit above .200 in MB? We’re screwed.

ora $19 million per year

outfielder who can’t hit good pitching and doesn’t hustle

this week has hurt the inner soul.

do the cubs have an off day tomorrow?

Pirates.
Normally I'd joke that that's just as good as an off day...

Now I’m just not so sure with our recent performance. So sad.

I was prepared to take 2/3 or sweep the Padres.

What the hell do I know.

Again....

nobody listened to what I said prior to this series about the Padres. This was almost inevitable, since the Cubs are slumping horribly and everything SD has done for the last 9 days has worked. a 9-0 home stand.

I hate to say…..but this was a train wreck ready to happen.

Yes, SDSJM, you've said about sixteen times how awesome your prediction skills are.

We swept them last time we played ’em, and a week ago we were riding on a season-high winning streak. I made my estimate a week ago, not Thursday night.

Also:

Can I wear the mask from SCREAM?

lmao +1

I’ve gotten that same response quite a few times now, glad to see there are other fans of the show out there.

His Twitter is pretty incredible.

Here.

And Season 2 films this summer/fall, for a early 2010 air-date.

Dan

Wow that's amazing

I hadn’t heard any news on season 2 so that’s some pretty damn exciting news. I’m his fan on facebook and it’s hilarious.

what makes you think we are better then them
I didn't say that. I said "Pirates".
Nope

But they do have the Pirates @ Wrigley

the cubs have had an off week it appears
nope

they play at home

Dome was something of a bright spot

in this road trip, no?

Good play by the @sshole Kouzmanoff.
Reed looks so sad
he should see those of us watching this game
in petco no less

an alleged pitchers’ park

A lot of this awful week

has just been very bad mojo, and a bad hitting slump.

But I still think some of Lou’s decisions are bizarre. If you want the game to be close why let Aaron pitch? Why was Cotts next in line?

aaron is really all we've got

maybe he should be sent down to iowa

GREAT! NEAL COTTS!

I HOPE KEVIN GREGG’S NEXT!

Don't laugh! Lou might ask Bob Howry to come back to pitch next week!
Cotts coming in to pitch

this ought to be entertaining!!!

Not any less

than the first 7 innings.

Imagine a skid like this to end a season and miss the playoffs!

It could be worse

yes, they could lose 3 straight in the playoffs
A Skid like this

makes it very unlikely that they Cubs will make the playoffs.

This week reminds me a whole bunch of 1999 when the cubs were in the thick of the playoff race for the first 1/4 of the season and then they lost 7 or 9 in a row and were never in the hunt again for the season.

I wonder what the longest losing streak was

for previous World Series winners?

That is a great question.
Really?

Well, you learn something new every day.

hey guys and gals

been busy all week and havent been able to get on the game threads often

Hope everyone is hanging in there. We will be alright.

It will get better

when I don’t know.

Hi Sue

Once hendry is forced to make some moves in order to keep his job

Something has to give.

I would hope he’s working on getting some help.

At this point in the season

you have to think he’s stuck with not much available yet, or what is being overpriced. And more and more I wonder if it matters, without a hot start, once (if) the sale finalizes, he may be done anyway.

Where does he start?

Bullpen or a 3rd baseman?

BP

The offense will improve beyond this funk… it has to.

Does it?

Really, does it have to get better? Why? Ever stop for a second and think that these guys just aren’t very good? That’s why the stat heads are fools most of the time. Guys hit .100 for the first 80 games, helping their clubs completely out of contention by that time only to pick it up and have respectable numbers for the year. Looking at it in total, the guy ends up with decent numbers but the reality is that he was horrendous when it matters. Meet the 2009 Chicago Cubs.

and who would want anybody in our lineup or bullpen
How can you find a ray of hope from this week....I mean how many months are we withouth ARam?

And I just cannot figure out a lineup that will score runs for us if this current team is all we got….sure, I know it is a slump but I can’t see some of these players doing much more….

He should be back after the All Star Game.

…around when Manny returns. But, will A-Ram be up to full capacity? Probably not.

Howdy folks

I see this is another fun game. It shames me as a fan to say that I’m happy I haven’t been around much to watch this week. Just ugly.
Ah well, hopefully this also means they’ll all get hot the same time

Meek Milton grounds out like the over rated BUM he is.....
It's just weird that he's having problems

A return to the NL might be really the problem. He really feasted on those AL pitchers…but maybe…an adjustment to the NL takes some time.

Has fallen quite a bit from last year's performance....
he's a professional hitter

I expect some professional hitting! not missing and weak tappers

Cubs lose seven games in a row...score only 5 runs in those games.
Not true

Lost the first game to Houston 6-5.

That team looks TOTALLY deflated

$140 MILLION dollars doesn’t buy much these days

But 40 million buys you 9 in a row

and “Tony Gwynn.” However, Cubs fans raised the Padres attendence by some 30K this weekend. Back to 16K at Petco next home stand, when the Pads return to the norm.

I think that's a lot of the problem

We’ve been trying to build a team like the Yankees, except that didn’t even really work for them. Lots of vets who may be really good but not much in the way of up and comers. Or maybe I should say, we get a lot of guys when they are at their peak and working down, not many who are still on their way up. With some exceptions, of course.

You hit the nail on the head there....
Well, a team with money rolling in

should be able to buy players, and supplement them with home-grown talent. The Dodgers are proving to be a good mix of that right now.

Problem is Chicago fans lack patience

Notice how fast everyone turned this team over a week. Building from scratch takes too much time, just like it would in NY.

100+ years is pretty patient I would say....
Crying for people to be fired after every losing streak

Isn’t very patient to me.

wow

you are over 100 years old??

There is a lot of truth to that
Well, I'd say the patience

vanished with the constant harping over “100 years” and raised expectations. But that’s old news. The team has won 2 straight divisions. If they can compete every year, as the Yankees and the Dodgers do, that’s an improvement and even, maybe win…

Expectations get raised, frustrations grow. Here in SD, the team loses, they stay home. Nobody really grumbles very much except the hard-core. There are other things to do here.

We continue to pack Wrigley Field. Either we are very patient, or stupid.

I prefer to think we enjoy baseball.

how bad is it?

just getting up here…

man

over already?

we obviously didn’t put up much of a fight

well thanks for the update, folks

I’ll just show myself out then…

>=/

I can’t take this anymore :(

Attention new ownership - Jim Hendry's job better be on the line now.....
We sure don't look like a

$135 million dollar team! I’m trying to figure out who’s getting all that money!

OMG

This current team is not a playoff team.

Jim. BLOW THIS TEAM UP…

NOW!!!!!

And were the hell is Lou!

Why don't you wait a little bit before you flush?

Sheesh.

not much to say about this week

Tuesday WGN stunk
Wednesday ESPN stunk
Thursday MLBnetwork stunk
Friday (no get to watch in Vegas) but still stunk
Saturday (no get to watch in Vegas) stunk
Sunday WGN stunk
I finally get to watch them 5 out of 7 days and it was putrid

Go back to not watching!

/sarcasm

'09 Cubs are pulling an '08 Tigers

FLOP

I'm ready for a fresh new team with bunches of young players scrapping to make the bigs....

maybe take a couple of years and watch the young guys develop….tired of watching these old rags weakly fail……REBUILD NOW!!!!

LOL.

These are my favorite posts after a loss or losing streak.

Just pumping for some of my hometown Iowa Cubs to get sent up....
Let 'em vent

But I hope the Cubs don’t schedule a “Hard Liquor and Handguns Night.”

going to run some viral scans

and shut my computer off for a while; i am sorry about my inappropritate comments

Newhart's on

far more entertaining than the last 2 1/2 hours

No matter how bad this was...

The Hawks game was worse… I promise…

Uck...what was the score?
6-1
Ouch. Glad I didn't see that one either
It was 5-1 Det

when I left; Huet was pulled for Corey Crawford.

Well, we don't fork over the paychecks.

Still rather be in the Cubs situation than the Padres, who will eventually lose Peavy, and probably Gonzalez to free agency. He didn’t like how the Peavy situation was handled.

It almost became “Major League-ish” for the Pads this home stand. Screw ownership — let’s just crank it up a notch. But they cannot keep it up. This will be the highlight of their season, sweeping the Reds, Giants, and the Cubs in a 9-game home stand.

This season is OVER

Anyone that thinks otherwise is completely delusional. What signs are there that this team will suddenly have productive at bats? What signs are there that more injuries aren’t on the way? What signs are there that the bad luck and misfortune won’t continue all season long? The answers….NONE.

Wake up call to Lou, yes, this team is indeed one of the worst offenses in MLB. He may be in denial that it isn’t but the reality is that it sure as hell is.

And a memo to Hendry, this team isn’t anywhere near good enough to make up for the entire lack of offense you’re going to get from Miles, Scales, Fontenot and Soto as regular starters. So what do you do? Find any and every player without a no-trade clause and get rid of them. It’s over. The season is a complete and utter loss and the window of opportunity to get to the World Series is unequivocally SHUT.

I'm delusional

I’m pretty sure they still have to play the rest of the games

Remember when the Cubs swept the Padres

at home? Didn’t the Pads look worse than the Nationals? See what happened 10 days later? Shit, as unpredictable as it is — happens.

Season isn't over....but the Cubs sure made is harder for themselves.....

without ARam this team is obviously unable to make up for it as currently constituted….the biggest flaw is our bench and this is showing……if we could do something about it and get someone in here who can drive in some runs we can get back in it and then really fly when ARam gets back….we have great starting pitching…..

Well

There is nothing that leads you to believe the Cubs are capable of winning one in a row let alone 9. No, it isn’t going to happen. This team is not very good and is not going to contend in the NL Central. Reality sucks, but that is what is staring this bunch in the face right now. I can hear it though, neither Lee nor Bradley are worried…and to me, that is simply laughable.

Brain stem alert!

Another jackazz who’s never here for the good times now becomes the prophet of doom …

Save it

Your comments are clownish as usual. I’ve seen your laughable posts more often than not and quite frankly, most of the others on here have forgotten more baseball than you know. If you don’t like my opinion, I’m cool with that. But from someone with little to know baseball knowledge, I’d save the typing if I were you.

It's apparent you know NOTHING about baseball

You show your azz every time you post here.

I’ve been watching this team, and this sport, for 40 years. Looks like you’ve been around for 40 days.

Pull your head out of your azz and look at some other baseball games sometime. It might be a revelation to you. If you’re intelligent enough to comprehend it, which I highly doubt.

If you've been around baseball you would know

that NO ONE has sealed their fate this early in the season.

Repeating....

I haven’t checked the standings. The Padres are now either 1 or 2 games below .500. That would have put them maybe 11 games under when they left Chicago.

A pitcher was brought up, Jody Gerut was sent to the Brewers for Gwynn. That’s it. The same shitty line-up (Gwynn, the only major change) that looked so horrible in Wrigley has just rolled off 9-in a row. i can go up to friends of mine who are Padres fans, and they will tell me that this — what’s just happened this home stand — could never have been predicted.

Bye then.

See you next season.

Am I spelling "fair-weather-fan" correctly?
That works for me.

A little resarch shows that he IS one.

I think that's fair.
I'll bet he even has a Cubs hat.

Maybe, just maybe he has a shirt too.

Well, he can spell "Cubs," apparently,

so that’s progress.

It's baseball...

Teams can get it together in an instant… Jesus, you’re acting like we’re 15 games out and it’s August…

Typical Cubbie fan BS

It’s going to get ugly in the stands at Wrigley next week.

Good

I’m never an advocate of booing and don’t understand it myself….but absolutely every aspect of this organization deserves it right now. From Hendry and his staff, to Piniella and his staff to every single player that has contributed to this putridity. They are all in it together and absolutely love the praise heaped on them when they win. Whatever happens this week at home…they deserve it.

Except how will that help us rally? All it does it get uglier and then you have players hating the fans....

and talking around the league about how you don’t wanna play in Chicago…..I think we need to relieve the pressure on everyone and pass around a big fat one tomorrow at the game….dugout, announcer’s booth, and to the fans…..

Best idea EVAR
A quick scan of K12's comments

Shows that he has just about never had anything good to say. Especially that “Zambrano, the Clown” fan post, an instant classic.

You are correct.
For the record...

…the Brewers could get swept tonight @ MIN and the Cardinals lost to the Royals today. So there’s that.

and cotts was rocking it again today

can’t wait to see him live this week!!!!

The Cubs' 4 hour flight back home...

…will no doubt feel like a flight to China

OT: I left WGN on after the game and Bob Newhart's show came on. Lame...

Whatever happened to that show when he was in Chicago with what’s-her-name and lived in a condo on the Near North Side?
