Bleed Cubbie Blue

Cubs Minor League Wrap -- May 28

If you're looking to me to cheer you up, sorry, I got nothing. Everyone lost tonight. At least the Iowa Cubs had the excuse that they lost to the LA Dodgers and their scrubs lost to Sacramento.

Iowa Cubs

The Iowa Cubs hacked up a fur ball against the Sacramento River Cats, 9-1.

Starter Esmailin Caridad had another bad start this afternoon as he gave up four runs on seven hits in six innings. One run was unearned. Caridad struck out one and didn't walk a batter.

Some of you have been excited about Greg Reinhard and he's had a good season before today.  Unfortunately, today he got rocked for five runs on four hits and two walks without recording an out in the ninth inning. One of the hits was a home run. His ERA jumped from 2.22 to 3.81 after today.

The Cubs were shut down by the River Cats pitchers led by Dana Eveland. Center fielder Sam Fuld was1 for 4 with a triple and the only RBI.

Tennessee Smokies

The Smokies dropped a double header to the Huntsville Stars 3-1 and 11-5.

In the first game, Casey Coleman lost despite throwing a seven-inning complete game.  He gave up three runs on seven hits. Coleman walked one and fanned three.

Catcher Blake Lalli was 2 for 3.

In the second game, Jesse Estrada's miserable season continued. Estrada allowed five runs on seven hits over four plus innings. He struck out four and didn't walk anyone.

John Gaub got the loss in relief. He allowed two runs, one of which was unearned, in an inning of relief. He surrendered a hit and a walk while striking out one.

Right fielder James Adduci was 2 for 3 with a run scored. Third baseman Marquez Smith had three RBI in a 1 for 2 game.

Star-divide

Daytona Cubs

The D-Cubs banged out nine hits but managed only two runs in a 3-2 loss to the Palm Beach Cardinals.

James Leverton saw his record on the season fall to 2-5. Leverton pitched 4.2 innings and allowed three runs on two hits and four walks. One of the runs was unearned. Leverton whiffed three Cardinals.

The top four hitters in the D-Cub lineup each had two hits--yet they still only managed two runs. Center fielder Tony Campana went 2 for 3 with two steals and two runs scored. He also walked once. Left fielder Tyler Colvin was 2 for 2 with both Cub RBI.

Shortstop Starlin Castro and catcher Robinson Chirinos were both 2 for 4.

Peoria Chiefs

The Chiefs finished off the system's misery by getting cut down by the Clinton Lumber Kings, 8-3.

Starter Marcus Hatley allowed five runs on nine hits in six innings. He walked one and struck out one. One of the runs was unearned.

Shortstop Junior Lake hit his second home run of the season in a 1 for 4 night. It was a solo home run to lead off the fifth inning. Catcher Michael Brenly went 2 for 4.

Not a very good night for the Cubs... or the system.
Tyler Colvins still around huh?

dynamite pick

I like th work that you do but i have been meaning to say this for a while...

We have one legitimate prospect right now.. I dont care what he does but there should be a Vitters upate every day.. I dont care if they dont play We should no what Vitters box is every night.

Sorry

Not gonna do it. I’d explain why, but people always seem to get upset for some stupid reason.

Much more succinct explanation than mine
Disagree

What is the point of always mentioning Vitters if he goes 1-4 or 0-4? There is no point.

One prospect? I guess you haven’t been reading Josh’s reports.

Gloom and doom!

We have one rough nite on the farm and our big league club loses and all of the sudden we have zero prospects in the system. Last year (2008) the 1st two months our clubs and players for the most part had a very slow and rough start and about mid June it picked up and alot those players came thru with pretty good years and Daytona was quite a story. This year for the most part our clubs got out fairly decent but have tailed somewhat the last few weeks, we’ve had a fair amount of players being moved around and its tough as a team to play together with players your not used to and now we have a ton of doubleheaders to play its going to rougher for awhile. Be patient it will get better!!

I'll be at the Smokies game Sat.

Anyone elso going to be there

Are you going

to write up a scouting report for us?

I'm going to try

But I’m not much of a writer, by the way thanks for the feedback via e-mail

Hey Josh

Just was wondering about James Adduci. I took hitting lessons from his dad when I was a kid, so I was wondering what the chances of James ever making it the Show might be. Dunno if you’ve seen or heard much about him, but anything you could relay would be appreciated.

He can draw a walk

and steal a base, but other than that, I’m not real high on him. I don’t think he can hit enough. Supposedly he’s pretty good in the field, so I guess he’s got a chance to be a 5th outfielder in the majors. I see a lot of Sam Fuld in him, but I like Fuld better and you can see the troubles Fuld has had establishing himself in the majors.

He’s got a chance to have his father’s career. I’d love to be proven wrong though. He seems like a good kid.

Alrighty then

Thanks for the info. I appreciate your take.

Jesse Estrada

His bad game last night was his last for the Cubs. He was released today.
