Cubs Minors Wrap -- June 10

Very light night tonight. I need it after yesterday.

I'm hearing that Cubs first round pick Brett Jackson may sign quickly.

Iowa Cubs

Apparently the Royals are traveling from Omaha to Des Moines by horse-drawn buggy, because Iowa got an off-day. Omaha had two off-days.

Tennessee Smokies

Hate to have an off-day because they've won five in  row, but at least they are busing to Mobile.

Daytona Cubs

The Daytona Cubs blanked the Jupiter Hammerheads, 2-0.

Rafael Dolis started and picked up the win to improve his record to 2-3.  Dolis gave up five hits and a walk in five innings. He struck out three.

David Cales got his seventh save with a perfect ninth. Cales got one strikeout.

Second baseman Nate Samson was 2 for 3 with a walk and a run scored.

Peoria Chiefs

Despite two Rebel Ridling home runs, the Chiefs were cut down by the Clinton Lumber Kings, 5-3.

Chris Carpenter was solid tonight. He allowed three runs on five hits in six innings. One of the runs was unearned. Carpenter walked three and struck out one. (And no, I don't know how to not link his name to the Cardinals pitcher without either misspelling it or doing all the links manually, which I don't want to do.)

Kevin Kreier got the loss. He gave up two runs on four hits over two innings. One of the hits was a solo home run.

First baseman Ridling hit two home runs tonight to up his season total to eight. Ridling was 2 for 4 with all three Chief RBIs.

Second baseman David Macias was 2 for 4. Left fielder Drew Rundle went 2 for 3.

For Chris Carpenter

Try putting two spaces in between his first and last name.

Thanks as always for these posts :)

Vitters

0 for his last 19

He hasn't had a hit in his last four games

Going 0-15, with 2 RBIs, and only 1 strike out. The 1 strikeout is the most impressive number during his “slump.”

Josh, it would be interesting to get your take on who right now are the top 5 legitimate major league prospects in the system right now and the good and bad you would say about each

Obviously Josh Vitters would rank # 1. But who are 2-5 and should we legitimately be excited about any or all of them? Thanks.

I'll do a full mid-season ranking

in about two weeks.
