Big Puma? I have another nickname for him. It also deals with a nickname for cats.
Sooner or later, the Cubs will come to this conclusion.
It would have been a better use of the season ticketholder’s money to buy some kegs, invite everyone on the field, take the rest of the $5M in a great big pile and burn it on the pitchers’ mound. At least we’d get a story out of that.
This is a circumstance where 1 ER loses the game for you. If you manage with one of your best relievers tied to the bench, you are hurting your chances to win.
Not so... A lot of managers don't use their closer until a close situation on the road.
Unless it gets to be desperation like Sunday… Now who throws to get a save. Most likely someone who doesn’t have that experience. You are hurting your chances to win by trotting someone out there that hasn’t had the pressure of winning a one run game.
the Cubs are only .001 percentage points of being the worst in all of baseball in success with RISP. The next team ahead of them in a close race: White Sox.
Some years, statistically this happens. It is gonna be uphill all year imo.
I suppose, if you’re only taking defense into account. But at that point, the Cubs have to make the tough decision about whether Miles or Blanco goes. We’ll see, but I’m betting that Miles’ giant contract wins the day.
Oakland scored 3 in the bottom of the 8th to tie it
The Twins may also go into extras. Their flight to Chicago will take about an hour and 10 minutes longer than the Cubs flight, adding to their fatigue.
I don't know what the words you typed are intended to mean.
But if Blum gets a lot of big hits against us… and doesn’t hit all that well over the course of his career, I start to wonder… do you treat him like the mediocre hitter he is, or do we treat him like a guy that beats us a lot.
And taken over the course of the last few years, we’ve had better than average pitching… so that excuse is invalid.
Lets Win this Game!!!!!!!

KaliCub - June 11, 2009
The Rockies have been so kind to the Cubs, I may become a secondary fan.
cowsarecool220 - June 11, 2009

Blanco bunts
Bradley safe at second. One out.
drewishdrewid - June 11, 2009
um, we bunted for Miles?
cowsarecool220 - June 11, 2009
we bunted
to get the runner over.
drewishdrewid - June 11, 2009
hey...
…he did just barely hit .300 last year. Way better option than pinch hitting with Soto.
duboisdm - June 11, 2009
Blanco knows how to do one thing with the bat, anyway
Clutch16 - June 11, 2009
leadoff hit and now a sac bunt, scary
BleedsbluinMI - June 11, 2009
That's good fundamental baseball...
Jimmyeatworld - June 11, 2009

JFCubFan - June 11, 2009

drewishdrewid - June 11, 2009

Craig in South Bend - June 11, 2009
Blanco
ought to stay on the team just because he can sac bunt.
KedzieKid - June 11, 2009
Pardon my ignorance
What was that that Blanco did? I have not seen it before. Is this what they call a successful sacrifice bunt?
cubfred - June 11, 2009
Let's be sure that we have enough witnesses to make it credible
vonde6 - June 11, 2009
A RISP?
Thats nothing… how about a hit?
Allie - June 11, 2009
Miles
grounds to the left side. Bradley across to third. Two outs. Soriano to the plate.
drewishdrewid - June 11, 2009

That would be good, he could go back on the DL.

JFCubFan - June 11, 2009

thing with Sori

Not even he knows. :P

…the worst thing. Johnson is someone you can put at least a little trust in.
duboisdm - June 11, 2009
TWSS
zevkalman - June 11, 2009
Why?
What is Lou doing not batting Soto? Now we waste 2/3 of the bench instead of 1/3.
okiecubbie - June 11, 2009
probably putting RJ in as D replacement anyway.
Fishbone2 - June 11, 2009
extra inning game, delay using your backup catcher.
KaliCub - June 11, 2009
Didnt we just ph for Hill?
okiecubbie - June 11, 2009
You are correct, I missed that.
But if he thought we wouldn’t succeed then the pitchers spot will remain in the 2 hole While Soto will bat sooner. Not saying I agree.

duboisdm - June 11, 2009

…Miles re-upped with St. Louis.
D98 - June 11, 2009
And even then...
they might over order on the Bud Light because they were to Old Style the previous year.
CubFan81 - June 11, 2009
Soto and Gregg in
BleedsbluinMI - June 11, 2009
that makes a shit ton of sense
why would we want Soto to hit with guys on? Great managing Lou!
duboisdm - June 11, 2009
And save Johnson on the bench
okiecubbie - June 11, 2009
It's a good thing we're getting Aaron Miles these high-leverage at-bats.
I mean, it’s not as if we just faked an injury for the guy to free up a roster spot.
D98 - June 11, 2009
What delightful surprise comes out of our bullpen next?
vonde6 - June 11, 2009
No doubt.

sue369 - June 11, 2009
LaTroy is actually a great guy. From GI.
Jimmyeatworld - June 11, 2009
0-2, foul back
BleedsbluinMI - June 11, 2009
Really not sure why he is using Gregg...
If they are lucky enough to get a lead they will need someone to close the game.
Fishbone2 - June 11, 2009
Gregg is not one of my favorite players.
zevkalman - June 11, 2009
You have to get out of this inning first.
In extras, this whole “leave a good reliever in the pen” business gets thrown out the window. It’s the right call.
D98 - June 11, 2009
At home it is.
Fishbone2 - June 11, 2009
I think you manage by the save rule too much.
This is a circumstance where 1 ER loses the game for you. If you manage with one of your best relievers tied to the bench, you are hurting your chances to win.
D98 - June 11, 2009

Fishbone2 - June 11, 2009
I'm guessing Gregg is in the game since he was up.
That’s kind of how they are using him. His knee tightens up if he gets up and down much.

1-1
BleedsbluinMI - June 11, 2009
foul back, 1-2
BleedsbluinMI - June 11, 2009
1-2
MinnesotaFan - June 11, 2009
bouncer to 3rd, foul
BleedsbluinMI - June 11, 2009
I had to look this up...
the Cubs are only .001 percentage points of being the worst in all of baseball in success with RISP. The next team ahead of them in a close race: White Sox.
Some years, statistically this happens. It is gonna be uphill all year imo.
The E-Man - June 11, 2009
Something will have to give in the upcoming series with the Sox.
cowsarecool220 - June 11, 2009
unless we can drop the Peavy fascination...
…and add an infielder/utility guy with a good bat. There is someone who fits that profile, but I can’t think of his name….
duboisdm - June 11, 2009
I see Geo must still
be having the same crotch problem he had last night.
sue369 - June 11, 2009
um, what?
cowsarecool220 - June 11, 2009
So many places to go with this one
All of which would probably get me banninated
Clutch16 - June 11, 2009
And you know this how????
;)
slcathena - June 11, 2009
It was like he
and Z were having a contest last night to see who could grab their own crotch the most. ;-)
sue369 - June 11, 2009
Glad you clarified
Clutch16 - June 11, 2009
Drinking game for next Z start?
Allie - June 11, 2009
It's on!!!
sue369 - June 11, 2009
Stop making me laugh at work, people are looking at me!
cowsarecool220 - June 11, 2009
LOL
sorry.
Allie - June 11, 2009
Do you have liver donors lined up?
AndrewJStone - June 11, 2009
ROFL
slcathena - June 11, 2009
I got ya Sue...
… that was out of control!
AndrewJStone - June 11, 2009
WTF
neifi - June 11, 2009
What the...
slcathena - June 11, 2009
slow bouncer to short, Blanco can't make the play, runners on first and second
BleedsbluinMI - June 11, 2009
Blanco couldn't get ball out of his glove. Runners on 1st and 2nd..
MinnesotaFan - June 11, 2009
Whew!
Itchy - June 11, 2009
Ronnie says:
AndrewJStone - June 11, 2009
Finally shouting to the heavens
Craig in South Bend - June 11, 2009
Because they're the Cubs and we are their endearing fans. :-)
zevkalman - June 11, 2009
Poor Ronny, he needs a hug.
cowsarecool220 - June 11, 2009
Inning over
SackMan - June 11, 2009
Pence bounces out to Blanco
BleedsbluinMI - June 11, 2009
a quick, sweet redemption for Blanco
vonde6 - June 11, 2009
onto the 11th.. thank you god
MinnesotaFan - June 11, 2009
I hate Tejada
A proven liar (convicted of perjury, lying about his steroid use) and a cheat (steroids.)
cubfred - June 11, 2009
He would look good
in Cubbie Blue though – right?
redivycubs - June 11, 2009
NO.
I don’t care how well they play, i don’t want to cheer for cheaters and liars.
AndrewJStone - June 11, 2009
+1000000000
KaliCub - June 11, 2009
I agree, no on mr clappy.
cowsarecool220 - June 11, 2009
It's the .350 batting avg.
It’s made me delusional
redivycubs - June 11, 2009
Inning over... blanco 6 4 fielders choice.
AndrewJStone - June 11, 2009
I think Andres may have earned himself a regional jet ticket back to DesMoines.
D98 - June 11, 2009
Maybe that's just a tad bit premature?
cowsarecool220 - June 11, 2009
Yes because shipping out your best
SS makes perfect sense.
Allie - June 11, 2009
I like Andres a lot. Miles deserves a free ticket.
zevkalman - June 11, 2009
There's no way he's the Cubs best SS.
I suppose, if you’re only taking defense into account. But at that point, the Cubs have to make the tough decision about whether Miles or Blanco goes. We’ll see, but I’m betting that Miles’ giant contract wins the day.
D98 - June 11, 2009
You're right
He’s the Cubs ONLY ss. Glad we cleared that up.
Allie - June 11, 2009
Redemption for Blanco
:
Allie - June 11, 2009
I mean, the bunt was good
but I think it’s ridiculous that we have to pinch hit for a bunt…
slcathena - June 11, 2009
Blanco started the game
at 2nd and they switched to SS when Riot was switched out.
cowsarecool220 - June 11, 2009
Ah, got it
Thanks, I missed the first 8.
slcathena - June 11, 2009
Dome, Lee, Hoff to bat
BleedsbluinMI - June 11, 2009
Can't do much better than that...
AndrewJStone - June 11, 2009
Hi again everyone...
… if this game goes past 4:45 pm CDT I will post another overflow.
Al Yellon - June 11, 2009
Wow
Al in a game thread!
how nifty! (hehe)
Allie - June 11, 2009
Was here earlier, too.
Al Yellon - June 11, 2009
Hang out for a while!
AndrewJStone - June 11, 2009
For a little while.
Here’s hoping this game goes to the 12th.
Al Yellon - June 11, 2009
what are the chances Mike Lincoln is on the Astros now?
Allie - June 11, 2009
Zero.
But I bet we can find his Houston clone.
Al Yellon - June 11, 2009
Hopefully sooner rather than later
As much as I love free baseball… I think too many games like this may kill me
Allie - June 11, 2009
Heya al!
slcathena - June 11, 2009
Do-over time
Now this time, Fuku gets on base before the Lee HR
vonde6 - June 11, 2009
I like the way you think!
cowsarecool220 - June 11, 2009
1-2 on dome
BleedsbluinMI - June 11, 2009
K
BleedsbluinMI - June 11, 2009
Did he spin
this time?
HoodooMan - June 11, 2009
He's spinning his way down to a .260 average
and right back to where he was last year.
Itchy - June 11, 2009
One down for Lee
BleedsbluinMI - June 11, 2009
wow
dome looks horrible
neifi - June 11, 2009
my personal plea if we get a man on
can we stop with the sac bunt….
it decreases our chances of scoring runs in an inning and we’re not particularly good at it in the first place
DartmouthCubsFan - June 11, 2009
Lee bounces out to 3rd
BleedsbluinMI - June 11, 2009
two down
neifi - June 11, 2009
2 out for the Hoff
BleedsbluinMI - June 11, 2009
Keep the faith,
I’m going home.
HoodooMan - June 11, 2009
2-0
BleedsbluinMI - June 11, 2009
soft liner to right, basehit
BleedsbluinMI - June 11, 2009
So no sac bunt, as per DCF's request, right?
Clutch16 - June 11, 2009
there are 2 outs
so, yes. no sac bunt
Allie - June 11, 2009
Who says Lou doesn't read BCB?
Clutch16 - June 11, 2009
BASEHIT for hoff
cubsnlinux - June 11, 2009
I don't know who will pitch the 11th
but it should not be Gregg
Doggie Stalker - June 11, 2009
Ascanio, maybe?
Allie - June 11, 2009
I bet you're right.
cowsarecool220 - June 11, 2009
I thought he can't pitch more than one inning?
okiecubbie - June 11, 2009
They've said that
And less than a week later, he threw two perfect innings in a game. Who knows?
Clutch16 - June 11, 2009
Fonty up with hoff on 1st, ball one
BleedsbluinMI - June 11, 2009
Come on Mikey!
You can do it!
cowsarecool220 - June 11, 2009
LBR!! C'MON!
Tangled Up In Blue - June 11, 2009
3-0 on fonty
BleedsbluinMI - June 11, 2009
I'm guessing Marshall?
Anybody watching on TV?
cowsarecool220 - June 11, 2009
meant to replay to Jessica
cowsarecool220 - June 11, 2009
3-1
BleedsbluinMI - June 11, 2009
Crush it...
Craig in South Bend - June 11, 2009
foul to left, 3-2
BleedsbluinMI - June 11, 2009
deep fly to left, 3 down
BleedsbluinMI - June 11, 2009
D'oh.
Not quite far enough. :(
slcathena - June 11, 2009
Oh, Pat
Why do I let you trick me like that?
ScottieG33 - June 11, 2009
Thank you Pat Hughes, I needed that.
tony412 - June 11, 2009
Aw...man!!
CubFan81 - June 11, 2009
Gameday has that half inside the wall
sigh
Allie - June 11, 2009
Does Gregg stay in?
duboisdm - June 11, 2009
It's a suspenseful silence on gameday audio!
cowsarecool220 - June 11, 2009
Has to be Ascanio right?
Tangled Up In Blue - June 11, 2009
Apparently...
…Lou has started drinking early today.
duboisdm - June 11, 2009
I might need to start too...
if this keeps up.
Tangled Up In Blue - June 11, 2009
I'll join you...
…if only in spirit.
duboisdm - June 11, 2009
My advice to you is to start drinking heavily
Clutch16 - June 11, 2009
Good advice.
Still at work though, so only wishful drinking.
Tangled Up In Blue - June 11, 2009
Yes.
AndrewJStone - June 11, 2009
Gameday has him still in
but who knows
Allie - June 11, 2009
Bottom of 11. Gregg still in. Jason Michaels up, 0-1
BleedsbluinMI - June 11, 2009
Wow, Lou must think this is going to take a while.
cowsarecool220 - June 11, 2009
I mean
it did take us 9 to get 1…
slcathena - June 11, 2009
I don't like that logic
since they scored in the 1st
chitownhawkeye - June 11, 2009
Brett's brother?
Clutch16 - June 11, 2009
Gregg it is...
slcathena - June 11, 2009
Law of averages says we win this one right?
xene - June 11, 2009
Well, someone has to win, so why not us?
cowsarecool220 - June 11, 2009
Thats what am saying!
xene - June 11, 2009
Miles throws him out, one down
BleedsbluinMI - June 11, 2009
Berkman to bat
BleedsbluinMI - June 11, 2009
Oakland scored 3 in the bottom of the 8th to tie it
The Twins may also go into extras. Their flight to Chicago will take about an hour and 10 minutes longer than the Cubs flight, adding to their fatigue.
chilango2 - June 11, 2009
Hope they play 18 innings out there.
Al Yellon - June 11, 2009
If you want to track it on flightaware.com
their flight number is Northwest #9987.
chilango2 - June 11, 2009
Wait... how do you know that?
Creepy.
AndrewJStone - June 11, 2009
I have an interest in aviation
And those numbers are public domain. Google them.
chilango2 - June 11, 2009
Al, you better get an emergency overflow ready, just in case ;-)
lswaidz - June 11, 2009
dont jinx
neifi - June 11, 2009
The last emergency overflow = a win
lswaidz - June 11, 2009
Base hit down the line to Hoff
BleedsbluinMI - June 11, 2009
Everything is an adventure...
… when Hoff fields.
AndrewJStone - June 11, 2009
Geoff Blum:
Professional Cub killer.
Reddevil - June 11, 2009
Stop it with the Cub killer shit...
Jimmyeatworld - June 11, 2009
Profanity not needed.
I hate guys like Blum, though.
Al Yellon - June 11, 2009
Stop it with the Cub killer poop...
Jimmyeatworld - June 11, 2009
It's true
This guy is a mediocre ball player who seems to get a lotta big hits against us.
I don’t like it… and you seem a little tense.
Reddevil - June 11, 2009
Well, we'd have to agree
he is no worse than our mediocre starters.
The E-Man - June 11, 2009
It's a myth perpetuated by circumstance.
Jimmyeatworld - June 11, 2009
I don't know what the words you typed are intended to mean.
But if Blum gets a lot of big hits against us… and doesn’t hit all that well over the course of his career, I start to wonder… do you treat him like the mediocre hitter he is, or do we treat him like a guy that beats us a lot.
And taken over the course of the last few years, we’ve had better than average pitching… so that excuse is invalid.
Reddevil - June 11, 2009
They seem to have a lot of those on this team
And yet we usually beat them. Weird.
Clutch16 - June 11, 2009
Ground ball time, Stinky Ben
please?
Allie - June 11, 2009
Pretty please?
slcathena - June 11, 2009
I will remember the pretty please next time
:-)
Allie - June 11, 2009
hee hee. ;)
slcathena - June 11, 2009
Blum base hit to right
BleedsbluinMI - June 11, 2009
Over miles head. Loser
SackMan - June 11, 2009
DFA
tony412 - June 11, 2009
If only he was standing on Fonty's shoulders...
Clutch16 - June 11, 2009
The end may be near
Itchy - June 11, 2009
But not till we score this inning!
Itchy - June 11, 2009
Crap.
Crappity crappity crap crap.
AndrewJStone - June 11, 2009
First and second, one down, Pudge batting
BleedsbluinMI - June 11, 2009
And Miles...
…demonstrates his utility yet again
duboisdm - June 11, 2009
miles is so short
neifi - June 11, 2009
Miles is so sucky
SackMan - June 11, 2009
Get the man a pogo stick out there.
AndrewJStone - June 11, 2009
On the plus side
Pudge strikes out a lot
vonde6 - June 11, 2009
Wow... FlashBlocker for Firefox makes Gameday so much better
lswaidz - June 11, 2009
Throw Strikes
PieFan08 - June 11, 2009
33 pitches for Gregg so far :-(
lswaidz - June 11, 2009
Putting Gregg in for a 2nd inning
after 20 pitches in the last inning was playing with fire,
Doggie Stalker - June 11, 2009
atleast it didn't burn this time
cubsnlinux - June 11, 2009
Double play!
BleedsbluinMI - June 11, 2009
Whew.
The cubs are going to send me in to cardiac arrest at the age of 25. Seriously.
AndrewJStone - June 11, 2009
I think I'm already working on an ulcer
Not that the Cubs caused it. But they’re not helping right now!
chitownhawkeye - June 11, 2009
What's Pudge's line for the game?
Clutch16 - June 11, 2009
0-5
Allie - June 11, 2009
Alright!
duboisdm - June 11, 2009
WOO HOO!
DP, inning over!
Al Yellon - June 11, 2009
logged in just in time!
Zakh - June 11, 2009
now let's get a win!
Zakh - June 11, 2009
DP... YES!
Reddevil - June 11, 2009
I'm going to post another overflow thread right now.
Al Yellon - June 11, 2009
Linky puuuuhlease
lswaidz - June 11, 2009
YAY!!!!! Good job stinky Ben!!!
slcathena - June 11, 2009
All right now.
ScottieG33 - June 11, 2009
Nice!
neifi - June 11, 2009
Nice
Thats what happens when you throw strikes!
PieFan08 - June 11, 2009
We going to 12!
BleedsbluinMI - June 11, 2009
DP! NICE!
Tangled Up In Blue - June 11, 2009
I love free baseball
but how about some runs now?
Please?
chitownhawkeye - June 11, 2009
Free baseball is too stressful for me...
… on this road trip at least.
AndrewJStone - June 11, 2009
Another war of attrition.
salparadise23 - June 11, 2009
Please Cubs....score now.
sue369 - June 11, 2009
And...
JUMP!
Al Yellon - June 11, 2009
Stand up, hook up shuffle out the door...
Jump right out and shout Geronimo!!
