Iowa Cubs
The Iowa Cubs topped the Oklahoma City Red Hawks, 5-4 in 11 innings.
Esmailin Caridad started and allowed one run on six hits over five innings. Caridad walked two and struck out four.
Justin Berg got the win in relief. Berg had 1.2 perfect innings for his second win of the year. Berg struck out two.
Neal Cotts came into the game to retire the final batter and pick up his first save.
Matt Camp went 4 for 6 tonight. Left fielder John-Ford Griffin hit his first home run in the Cub organization. Griffin was 1 for 5 with one RBI.
Tennessee Smokies
Rained out.
Daytona Cubs
The Daytona Cubs lost to the St. Lucie Mets, 4-1.
Starter Ryan Searle picked up the loss to even his record at 5-5. Control was his problem as he allowed only two hits, but he added in four walks and a wild pitch which led to two runs allowed. Searle struck out two.
First baseman Jovan Rosa was 2 for 3.
Peoria Chiefs
The Peoria Chiefs topped the Quad City River Bandits, 7-3.
Justin Bristow was pretty good tonight as he scattered seven hits over five innings, leading to only one run. Bristow secret was that he didn't walk anybody. Bristow only struck out one. He did hit a batter.
Chris Huseby came into the game in the eighth inning and despite allowing a run in the ninth, picked up his fifth save. Huseby threw 1.1 innings and allowed one run on two hits.
Shortstop Junior Lake hit his fifth home run of the year in a 2 for 4 evening. Lake also doubled, scored twice and had two RBI.
Left fielder Josh Harrison was 2 for 4 with three stolen bases tonight. Harrison scored twice and had one RBI.
Second baseman Ryan Flaherty was 2 for 4 with a triple and a run scored. Catcher Michael Brenly went 3 for 3 with a run scored and an RBI. With the White Sox broadcast crew at the game today, I'm guessing Michael's dad was in the stands for this one.

Great recaps as always Josh. Side question, do the links to the players names have to link to their “sbnation” page versus like an milb.com page? I ask because the sbnation pages suck, don’t have minor league stats on them, and aren’t near as good as the milb.com player pages.
Before anyone flames me, yes, i know I can click on the boxscore link and get the players page that way. That’s how I do it currently. I just wondered for everyone else’s simplicity if it would be possible to set these player pages to milb.com.

for your hardwork. Both television broadcast teams are doing all of the games for the Cubs and Sox series. Bob Brenly was on Comcast so I doubt he made it to Peoria for Michael’s game.

Worth mentioning
that Vitters was 1 for 4 with 2 RBI. I know when he sat the other day there were people asking and he had been in a bit of a slump so just nice to see him in playing and hopefully beginning a new hitting streak.

The Cubs broadcast was on Comcast Sportsnet. They did this last year for the crosstown series, both teams do all the games, but they alternate stations.
Not that it would make a big difference to those out of market.

organizational shuffling
so i’ve been thinking about the black hole that has been 2B for the cubs this year and i can’t help but wonder why the cubs don’t just promote darwin barney or tony thomas and give them a couple week trial at 2B in the bigs. it would be hard from either of them to be worse than miles and/or blanco at the plate and you have Josh Harrison isn’t going to developing DH’ing full-time in Peoria.
also, i think its time to move jeffrey believeau to AA and see what he can do. after seeing him in beloit a few weeks ago i still have a pretty hard-core man crush on him.
