but nobody is running away from anybody in this division. The stretch between now and the ASB is heavy with intra-division games. And the Cubs play most of them at home.
Starting tomorrow, it would be a good time for the Cubs to get on a run.
If the Cubs were 9 games back right now, I might not be so sunny. But I haven’t seen anybody in this division that’s better than the Cubs. Problem is, I haven’t seen anybody any worse, either. :)
This team still has more talent than the others. The pitching has lived up to form. Now, the bats have to, too. There’s plenty of time for that to emerge.
Yeah, I know what you mean....it's not like I'm planning on saving money for playoff tickets
But as a baseball fan, I have a favorite team, and I like watching that team play.
Although I’m disappointed at the GM, the manager, and some of the players (ha, ha), I know that baseball is still full of surprises, and we aren’t that far behind, so no use in getting out the bottles of gin and vodka yet, or worse the razor blades :-)
I only drank a Fosters today, and only because I was thirsty :-)
At this point, you are right – no one really is performing like the Dodgers in the NL Central. So – we cannot stick a “fork” in them yet, by any means.
However, It is so goddamned frustrating watching them play like this now (pukes a bit, in mouth)!
I will be there Friday, and Saturday, and my record is pretty abysmal this yer.

LT - June 28, 2009
By fairweather...
Do you mean someone disowning the team right now?
CubsWin!Oregon - June 28, 2009
yep
drewishdrewid - June 28, 2009
Yeah
not people who are pissed off, but ones who say they give up… It’s no fun anymore… Have they really been a fan of this team for long?
LT - June 28, 2009
single, single, blast. single, single, walk, blast.
give the sox a little going away present.
lexmarklover - June 28, 2009
That word up there, the one that starts with a 'w'
I don’t think I’ve ever seen that before…
Clutch16 - June 28, 2009
lol.
lexmarklover - June 28, 2009
Fox walked.
he the only one today?
drewishdrewid - June 28, 2009
Farney HBP
Clutch16 - June 28, 2009
Lee and Bradley both had free passes, as well
Clutch16 - June 28, 2009
bradley in the 1st?
i think?
murphymj - June 28, 2009
yes
I think so.
drewishdrewid - June 28, 2009
Bradley, Lee and Freel have walked, too.
Bill Potter - June 28, 2009
Fox to the plate.
Some defensive changes to the Sox that no one cares about. Thornton up in the pen.
Fox bounces out to short. One out. Soto up.
drewishdrewid - June 28, 2009
Fox 0-3 with a walk
Think they figured him out?
Clutch16 - June 28, 2009
along with his 0-5 yesterday?
ya think?
drewishdrewid - June 28, 2009
nah i just think he's a little eager to show that his friday performance wasn't a fluke
lexmarklover - June 28, 2009
They didn't throw him many fastballs today, if any.
carmen_fanzone - June 28, 2009
Well, he's 0 for his last 8 over two days.
I won’t say he’s been figured out, but he’s not going to hit .374 the rest of the year, obviously. If he can stay on offspeed pitches, he’ll be fine.
Bill Potter - June 28, 2009
The adjustments go back and forth
Some pitchers appear to have adjusted to Fox. Now he needs to do the same. I think he’ll be OK, if he does as trey says.
Not Bruce Froemming - June 28, 2009
he's spent 6+ yrs in the minors for a reason
Clutche - June 28, 2009
We play tomorrow or Tuesday?
Pittsburgh, right?
carmen_fanzone - June 28, 2009
tomorrow and yes
lexmarklover - June 28, 2009
thanks
carmen_fanzone - June 28, 2009
Yep and they are not that far behind us.
Better starting pitching than you’d think but not very good at much else.
PS a Rookie making his MLB debut beat the Brewers so we are not the only ones it happens to.
Doggie Stalker - June 28, 2009
Soto
high fly ball. Pods makes the catch up against the wall. Two outs.
drewishdrewid - June 28, 2009
What's most depressing
Is thinking about the 15 game lead we should have if we played up to our potential.
Danwood - June 28, 2009
An "exciting" pop out to left.
I’m has my life come to?
Reddevil - June 28, 2009
Freel to the plate
1-2.
drewishdrewid - June 28, 2009
looks like standing are going to be the same, except Reds move into third, cubs will be 3.5 GB once again
lexmarklover - June 28, 2009
I'm gonna go on record...
as saying I kind of like Ryan Freel.
(Regardless of what happens in this at-bat)
CubsWin!Oregon - June 28, 2009
I do too
I don’t think he got anything resembling a chance before he hit the DL, and now he’s showing why he’s in the bigs.
drewishdrewid - June 28, 2009
Exactly...
CubsWin!Oregon - June 28, 2009
agreed
murphymj - June 28, 2009
Always liked Freel
when he was with the Reds. He could be a useful tool here.
Not Bruce Froemming - June 28, 2009
Me too. I like the guy, and always liked him. I like Farney too.
zevkalman - June 28, 2009

Clutch16 - June 28, 2009
Me too! Tomorrow will be better, wont it??
CubfaninRaleigh(869milestoWrigley) - June 28, 2009
Can't be any worse, right?
Clutch16 - June 28, 2009
then a shutout by Denks?
probably not.
drewishdrewid - June 28, 2009
The season starts this week.
3 in Pittsburgh, 4 versus Milwaukee. Need a strong showing.

Not Bruce Froemming - June 28, 2009
Bruce, how can you be
so optimistic?!
Man, it is damn impressive.
I just don’t see it with the performance on the field with RISP, and the bullpen in its current state.
Even in 2007 & 2008, the RISP performance was no where near worst in the majors as it is now.
The E-Man - June 28, 2009
It's called being a Cubs fan....Ernie wanted to play a double-header even when we had players
like Andre Rogers and Billy Cowan…..that’s what we are….eternal optimists….
zevkalman - June 28, 2009
I don't think there is
a “stranglehold” on being a Cub fan = eternal optimist no more than the Republican party is the “God” party.
People just roll in different ways. Its cool if you are optimistic in the face of overwhelming odds.
After being at the “alter” many times in 40 years, I personally look at it differently until proven differently.
The E-Man - June 28, 2009
It's not just being optimistic, E,
it’s being realistic.
If the Cubs were 9 games back right now, I might not be so sunny. But I haven’t seen anybody in this division that’s better than the Cubs. Problem is, I haven’t seen anybody any worse, either. :)

Bruce is Right, I admit,,,,,I tend to be a glass half empty guy about cubs (& other teams I follow))sports,
And noted we are closer to last place than first; (I know, thats lame!)
I need that reminder that we cold turn this around. So thanks.I’ll have one of my home brews and tomorrow will be another opportunity to win!
CubfaninRaleigh(869milestoWrigley) - June 28, 2009
Keep reminding me, Bruce
It ain’t ovah yet :)
