But his performance is kind of besides the point and not the problem with this team. EVERY team in this league has an Aaron Heilman in the bullpen. All of them. The reason it is relevant for the Cubs is we have an offense that doesn’t score which means ‘our’ Heilman must consistently pitch in close games; we have starting pitchers that, at best, can go 7 innings (and really only Lilly and Wells have done that consistently), and the rest of them go maybe 6 innings. So this belief that we will magically go on a run when we are requiring our bullpen to go 3-4 innings a game is fantasy. We’ve scored in 5 of the last 34 innings, combined this is why we will be 7 1/2 games out of first when Chicago wakes up Monday morning – STL is in an entirely different class than us.
…teams that have solid bullpens have a real good chance to be competitive, especially in today’s game. If you can avoid having that one guy who tends to get lit up, it pays of big time over 162.
I'm glad that no one posted a jump in the last thread...
I was tiring of explaining the game to idiots who don’t know what they are talking about, and see only what they want to see. I can come over here, and not have to deal with the ignorance.
Contador had a killer stage this morning and looks poised to take the lead. Armstrong dropped one spot and looks to help Contador if he continues to dominate.
this team isn’t in dead last. all of our recent wins can be traced to him. They just need to blow up the team – dump Harden, he is terrible, and start fresh next year. Let the young guys play so we don’t have to stare at Soriano again in 2010
The starting pitching (for the most part) has been really good. The problem (as it has been for the last 20 years) is the lack of position players coming from the farm system, which leads to overpaying for guys like Soriano, Bradley, etc.
I'm to the point where when I see a BB, I want to see the pitcher drop and do 20 push-up's
Throw strikes or go somewhere else. This is not a comment on Stevens, but I just thought of it when he went behind 2-0 on his first batter-I do realize he’s probably quite nervous
time to forfeit?
Quicker to get out clubbing.

Going to keep it that way?
How bad is it in the other place?
Clutch16 - July 10, 2009

I’m not posting a jump but someone probably will. :-(

I mean folks can rip on Heilman all they want

I know and
I really want him to do well too but he makes me cry sometimes.
sue369 - July 10, 2009
heilman had a bad outing, ADMITTED
BUT; he was required to obtain 5 outs that inning between the drooped pop-up & missed tag
brian custer - July 10, 2009
the Cubs D did something right?
unpossible
shake n bake - July 10, 2009
more bad play by the cubbies.
he got back; we got a break on the call.
buckmulligan - July 10, 2009
This season has been hard to watch. I cannot remember this many players underachieving
all at the same time on one team.
VolPowers - July 10, 2009
i walk him here
just so the card fans don’t get the pleasure of his rbi.
buckmulligan - July 10, 2009
I love this song
lexmarklover - July 10, 2009
Impressive version.
VolPowers - July 10, 2009
omg Pujols made an out.
lexmarklover - July 10, 2009
Notice how he only makes outs after the outcome of the game is settled
Jody Jody Davis - July 10, 2009
Broski, 5 is a lot but not insurmountable
lexmarklover - July 10, 2009
You forget
Aaron Heilman won’t be pitching for St. Louis today
Jody Jody Davis - July 10, 2009
remember when jonathan broxton gave up 4 runs in the 9th
yeah it can happen
lexmarklover - July 10, 2009
Let's get some runs, eh?
VolPowers - July 10, 2009
let's do this shiz
lexmarklover - July 10, 2009
It's bad that I care
more about Brian being in the booth than I do this game right now. :-(
sue369 - July 10, 2009
No
I understand. In 10 minutes, I’ll care more about Hank Hill on Ch.32.
chilango2 - July 10, 2009
Hopefully tomorrow
will be better.
sue369 - July 10, 2009
No doubt in my mind it will
chilango2 - July 10, 2009

thermal54 - July 10, 2009
Dead team walking.
VolPowers - July 10, 2009
+1
Jody Jody Davis - July 10, 2009
it's sad that games like this are getting to be expected.
there is really something “Dusty-like” infecting this team and it is hard to watch.
I’ll still watch, it’s just the expectations are dropping fast.
LAcarl519 - July 10, 2009
oh hey, a walk
who’d have guessed it
shake n bake - July 10, 2009
Have the Cards gone 1-2-3 in any inning yet today?
Jody Jody Davis - July 10, 2009
Nope
The closest was the 4th, and that’s when Carpenter got the lead-off walk, followed by three outs.
wallrock - July 10, 2009
Did you see how adamant Theriot was at calling off Soriano?
That said a lot about this team to me.
chilango2 - July 10, 2009
This is a huge
arguement in the last thread.

sue369 - July 10, 2009
We can talk about ANYTHING you want Jimmy
Like corn futures and the Tour de France…
I’m all ears.
chilango2 - July 10, 2009
Hey Chil... Who is leading the Tour overall?
Jimmyeatworld - July 10, 2009
A Swiss no-one
Contador had a killer stage this morning and looks poised to take the lead. Armstrong dropped one spot and looks to help Contador if he continues to dominate.
chilango2 - July 10, 2009
My co-worker told me that an Italian took over the lead today
I haven’t really followed, that’s just what we were talking about earlier.
wallrock - July 10, 2009
Nocentini
You’re right, he took over the overall today. I thought Cancellara had kept the yellow jersey.
chilango2 - July 10, 2009
a good movie will lighten up the mood for sure
lexmarklover - July 10, 2009
the new Cameron Diaz movie probably sets the right mood for today
LAcarl519 - July 10, 2009
Yeah, I hear that one's a real laffer
Myself, I’m going to get my rock n roll on tonight – the Hold Steady in Madison. It’ll be EPIC!
wallrock - July 10, 2009
That's a great band
Saw them at Lollapalooza. Rocked hard.
chilango2 - July 10, 2009
Oh, sorry... Have fun
chilango2 - July 10, 2009
Thx
This will be my fifth time seeing them. The guitarist is originally from Madison and I’m friends with his cousin, and she turned me on to them.
wallrock - July 10, 2009
I hate getting slapped around by Albert and the Nut Dusters
I really do
VolPowers - July 10, 2009
Sorry, had an afternoon meeting
I get out and it’s 8-3.
Worthless, gutless, heartless and assless performance. I spit on this team!
Worf - July 10, 2009
Did you just learn
to spit this week? It’s gotten old already.
sue369 - July 10, 2009
Wow...
I can’t describe to you how much I don’t care what you think
Worf - July 10, 2009
I won't lose any sleep over it.
sue369 - July 10, 2009
not assless.
a few guys made real asses of themselves.
LAcarl519 - July 10, 2009
Has everyone left, or are they still bitching each other out in the other thread?
chilango2 - July 10, 2009
Mostly left I think
the fires have died down on the other thread.
wallrock - July 10, 2009
not sure man. damn it's been a really tough day.
lexmarklover - July 10, 2009
Hope they stay there.
sue369 - July 10, 2009
Another meaningless hit by Soriano
Enough of this one at bat can change everything. Soriano is a whiny, overpaid bitch. Now go cry again to the media about your manager.
EamuCanoli - July 10, 2009
EXACTLY +1000
his hits are all one at bat too late.
BeltwayCubsFan - July 10, 2009
a Sammy Sosa trick
LAcarl519 - July 10, 2009
Lee rocks the place by going 3-3
And Harden and Heilman shat the bed.
I hate this team. I really hate the makeup of this team. No guts and no character whatsoever.
Worf - July 10, 2009
You must be a fun guy to be around when the chips are down...
Jimmyeatworld - July 10, 2009
I'm not in the foxhole with them
I am a fan. They are here to provide for ME! I am not here to provide for them.
Worf - July 10, 2009
are you a fox/wolf?
lexmarklover - July 10, 2009
Lee is the only reason
this team isn’t in dead last. all of our recent wins can be traced to him. They just need to blow up the team – dump Harden, he is terrible, and start fresh next year. Let the young guys play so we don’t have to stare at Soriano again in 2010
BeltwayCubsFan - July 10, 2009
wells, lilly,
lexmarklover - July 10, 2009
Wells, I'll give you
Lilly is 33. And how about position players?
Jody Jody Davis - July 10, 2009
no i meant like they also contributed to this team not being in last
lexmarklover - July 10, 2009
My mistake

Was not a good idea

HUH?
VolPowers - July 10, 2009

Yes... based on today
Only a key game against the division leader.
