Whoops. I didn't know you were posting this. I'll delete my FanPost thread.
My pick:
I’ll take all 4 NL guys before a single AL guy in this year’s Derby; and specifically, Pujols.
And I think it’s kinda sad to see Mauer up there, since he’s hitting .380 and the Derby always “ruins” swings.
dtpollitt - July 13, 2009
If that’s true, then I really hope Albert wins.
Goodie1969 - July 13, 2009
Well, that's why Hamilton isn't in it this year.
dtpollitt - July 13, 2009
or his, um, injury.
carmen_fanzone - July 13, 2009
You can be sad for Mauer
I’ll just hope it ruins the swing of Prince Fielder and Ryan Howard.
Anything that might help the Cubs “march” to the playoffs, you know.
Allie - July 13, 2009
for information only
Adrian Gonzalez (SD) 11/2
Albert Pujols (STL) 9/5
Brandon Inge (DET) 11/1
Carlos Pena (TB) 13/2
Joe Mauer (MIN) 27/4
Nelson Cruz (TEX) 33/4
Prince Fielder (MIL) 21/4
Ryan Howard (PHI) 11/4
I like Prince here.
WhistlerWilliams - July 13, 2009
I'm going with Pena
but I really REALLY want Mauer to win. Hands down my favorite player.
MJMars - July 13, 2009
Heath Bell is awesome.
The announcer asked him about replacing Trevor Hoffman and how he’s been able to do it. Bell’s response: “well, I’m kind of a big deal!”
kanderber - July 13, 2009
Ryan Braun has a clothing line...
I don’t even know what to say.
kanderber - July 13, 2009
"Why are you wearing that ugly shirt? Your mom mismatch the garanimal tags again?"
That’s what to say.
Gibbon Jockey - July 13, 2009
If I were to take 2
I’d take Pena and Cruz.
wrigleyrocker12 - July 13, 2009
The over/under on Berman's annoying "back, back, back, back..."
is currently at 87.
carmen_fanzone - July 13, 2009
I'll take the under.
I’m hoping for a freak technical difficulty and/or act of God.
Goodie1969 - July 13, 2009
I need a clarification
is each “back” counted or each time he goes “back, back, back, back”?
TkGoUWGB - July 13, 2009
backbackbackback = 1
carmen_fanzone - July 13, 2009
a little late for this
but waaay under. individual “back” I’d take the waaaay over
TkGoUWGB - July 13, 2009
Al!!
Thank you so much for this, I was thinking about posting a thread for it…NO NEED!!
I wanna call the homers in Spanish now!!
Azul Cachorro - July 13, 2009
Azul Cachorro - July 13, 2009
I think the HR Derby would be much more entertaining
if it was on TBS, and Chip Caray got to call the shots.
I didn’t much care for Chip Caray, but his home run calls were always exciting to me. His tag line was kind of hokey, but that guy sold a home run like it was the most magnificent thing he had ever seen.
Goodie1969 - July 13, 2009
I can't even remember Chip Caray's tag line
Allie - July 13, 2009
Sure you do!
“SWUNG ON, BELTED, DEEP LEFT FIELD…”
I could always imagine him leaping up out of his seat with the call. The sad part is that home runs don’t really take that long at all, and then he has to go back to his favorite activity—filling three hours of airtime with a barrage of factual errors and sloppy homerism.
Goodie1969 - July 13, 2009
Love that call...
It was normally a “swung on, BELted” but I remember one time he was really into it and, while this is tough to describe by typing, it was kind of a “SWUNG…ON…BEL…TED…WAY out of here!”
Love Chip’s HR call.
kanderber - July 13, 2009
Duh
God. I’m dumber than normal today.
For some reason, I forgot that call belonged to Chip.
I’ve always liked him.
Allie - July 13, 2009
I love it!
I got a bottle opener where it plays one of chip’s home run calls.
Glacier - July 13, 2009
Those are cool.
cubswynn - July 13, 2009
Hey uhm...
Does anyone know if this is going to re-air later tonight? I’m going out for dinner in a few and am sad that I will miss some entertaining pseudo-baseball….
Hilary Lee - July 13, 2009
Definitely
I’m pretty sure they will have Sportcenter, then replay it at 11ish?
MJMars - July 13, 2009
Its not on the satelight guide
But my guide isn’t always right.
Allie - July 13, 2009
Nelson Cruz is going to win. He's a freaky freak.
lexmarklover - July 13, 2009
ESPN's
“images of the year” montage was pretty badass.
Very cool.
Allie - July 13, 2009
Ugh, David Cook!
D:
Azul Cachorro - July 13, 2009
At least it isn't Adam Lambert.
Goodie1969 - July 13, 2009
Wouldn't be a true HR derby...
…unless we had, you know, a band performance beforehand.
carmen_fanzone - July 13, 2009
Albeit
A crappy one? D:
Azul Cachorro - July 13, 2009
Bud Selig is in charge of choosing the opening bands, too, so....
carmen_fanzone - July 13, 2009
I've got Albert winning this thing by a mile.
kanderber - July 13, 2009
yeah me too
Allie - July 13, 2009
I want
Adrian Gonzalez
Azul Cachorro - July 13, 2009
I am being ballsy and taking Cruz. go get em Nelson!
Glacier - July 13, 2009
i think this pujols guys going to win, i hear hes really good, i dont know if thats true though
jesus christos - July 13, 2009
I'm picking fielder...
bilbosbuttons - July 13, 2009
Prizes are nice, donations to charity are good....
….but this HR derby has really jumped the shark. Call Your Shot? The Gold Ball? Let’s just mash some freakin baseballs!
carmen_fanzone - July 13, 2009
i was expecting a
bj ryan update today
tim815 - July 13, 2009
I'd walk him in this situation...
carmen_fanzone - July 13, 2009
wow
this camera angle sucks
Allie - July 13, 2009
pitcher is
working him away effectively
tim815 - July 13, 2009
EA looks alright
thank goodness
jesus christos - July 13, 2009
that hr off of niedenfuer....
i was running videotape that game. the pitch before the shot, they flashed a graphic of how many at bats it had been since ozzie homered from the left side.
tim815 - July 13, 2009
Back back back
Is gonna get old
bilbosbuttons - July 13, 2009
A LOO PROFUNDOOO
NOOO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NOOOO, DIGANLE QUE NO A ESA PELOTA!!
Nice homers by Nelson Cruz.
I don’t think he’s gunna win, though.
Azul Cachorro - July 13, 2009
Now thats my favorite home run call
if I did baseball telecasts, I’d do that in english.
TkGoUWGB - July 13, 2009
I always wanted to be one of the kids shagging balls
and then forget what my purpose was and rob somebody. Ok maybe not the last part but the shagging part would be cool.
TkGoUWGB - July 13, 2009
there's a new spin
give a couple hundred thousand to people who ‘go torii hunter’ on home run derby night.
tim815 - July 13, 2009
More EA interviews, less Berman "backbackbacks"
carmen_fanzone - July 13, 2009
Wow, that Cruz is crushing it
carmen_fanzone - July 13, 2009
4th Deck!
Impressive. Most Impressive.
Goodie1969 - July 13, 2009
Most is a round is what?
bilbosbuttons - July 13, 2009
28
By Josh Hamilton last year. :D
Azul Cachorro - July 13, 2009
I hope pujols goes out in the first round
bilbosbuttons - July 13, 2009
Albert is so likable.
Why does he have to be on the damn Cardinals?
kanderber - July 13, 2009
So that he breaks the Cards fans' hearts
When he comes over to the
darkCubs sideAzul Cachorro - July 13, 2009
He makes the Cardinals offense look good,
just imagine what he could do for the Cubs.
dtc0405 - July 13, 2009
wow unbalanced swing and tubbo still knocks it out
jesus christos - July 13, 2009
Is this a Home Run Derby
Or a 2 hour special on Albert Pujols?
Sobenergy - July 13, 2009
Nevermind
ESPN stopped their interview with Pujols after missing about 8 homers and 8 outs from Fielder. They didn’t continue for the whole 2 hours.
Sobenergy - July 13, 2009
that ball tracking thing is annoying
hopefully it stays only in the hrd
truthaddict11 - July 13, 2009
Reminds me when FOX did that with the NHL.
cubswynn - July 13, 2009
THIS IS OUT…
OF HERE
jesus christos - July 13, 2009
I'm watching the Derby at work on my iPhone.
This MLB app is worth so much more than $9.99!
cubswynn - July 13, 2009
step it up inge
jesus christos - July 13, 2009
ouch
8 outs no hr
truthaddict11 - July 13, 2009
now agon cant hit
jesus christos - July 13, 2009
I swear to God...
…if Jeter gets Alba and EA, I’m going to FREAK OUT!!!!!!!!
cubswynn - July 13, 2009
Jeter is like Captain Kirk.
He’s got women on other planets.
Goodie1969 - July 13, 2009
Okay, I'm bored, so here's my suggestion.
Put in a real ML pitcher, no cage, throwing full-bore ML stuff, and have him tell the batter what he’s throwing and where, and see if the hitter can hit it out. That would put the test to the old adage, “Man, he hit that like he knew it was coming!”
Goodie1969 - July 13, 2009
Aw, man
Adrian Gonzalez just got 2 homers. =(
Azul Cachorro - July 13, 2009
on the bright side if the HR derby curse is real, 2 of the cubs biggest threats are now tamed
jesus christos - July 13, 2009
still in the first round?
this is gonna take forever sheesh
Allie - July 13, 2009
It's gonna be a long one
Ace Venom - July 13, 2009
just me or does the distance tracker continue to count when the balls falling straight down
jesus christos - July 13, 2009
My friend working graphics for ESPN
just texted me to ask my opinion of it. I told him it was cool, but inaccurate.
Chris Dobbertean - July 13, 2009
Pujols, Mauer, Pena in a 3 way tie for the last position. :D
Azul Cachorro - July 13, 2009
i guess pujols is too tired from being hitless last night to hit homers tonight
jesus christos - July 13, 2009
THESE CAMERA ANGLES ARE F*CKING DISTRACTING
They are very very misleading.
dtpollitt - July 13, 2009
The little Cardinals are adorable
Allie - July 13, 2009
Pujols got it
Ace Venom - July 13, 2009
i cant imagine how cardinal fans would react if pujols doesnt resign with the cards
busch stadium would probably be empty
jesus christos - July 13, 2009
If he pulls a Rogers Hornsby
And comes to the Cubs…
Ace Venom - July 13, 2009
muwahahha
jesus christos - July 13, 2009
Also
Carlos Pena is hot.
Wow. Hello, buddy.
Allie - July 13, 2009
He is on my fantasy team
sounds like he just joined yours
LT - July 13, 2009
"Hola, Carlos.
You’ve just been drafted! Welcome aboard!"
Love,
Me
Allie - July 13, 2009
Here comes Prince Albert
Ace Venom - July 13, 2009
i hate listening to the cult of pujols aka espn
jesus christos - July 13, 2009
At least Pujols deserves it
Usually when ESPN picks someone to go crazy over they’re jerks.
Pujols seems like a great guy off the field as well as a damn good player on it.
Allie - July 13, 2009
not saying pujols is a bad guy, but the mancrush with him on espn is very annoying
jesus christos - July 13, 2009
Eh
It is a bit… but hard not to, you know?
Allie - July 13, 2009
hey what did mauer and pena do in the tie
i was out for a smoke and missed it
Glacier - July 13, 2009
Mauer 0
Pena 1
Pujols 2
Allie - July 13, 2009
are you kidding?
Glacier - July 13, 2009
Nope
Allie - July 13, 2009
is this still the tie or is it the second round now?
Glacier - July 13, 2009
Rd 2
Allie - July 13, 2009
lol really?
jeeze i didnt think i missed that much.
Glacier - July 13, 2009
the tie breaker didn't take that long at all
each guy only got 5 swings.
Allie - July 13, 2009
oh damn
tough luck for albert having to go again that soon
Glacier - July 13, 2009
Yeah
He had a really quick turn around.
Allie - July 13, 2009
THERE IS NO WIND MORGAN SHUT UP@@!!!!!!
Glacier - July 13, 2009
Watching this
reminds you how jaw dropping impressive Hamilton’s round was last year.
Allie - July 13, 2009
NELSON! NELSON! NELSON!
He’s my pick baby!
lexmarklover - July 13, 2009
he was mine from the start too
he can crush em’
Glacier - July 13, 2009
tubbos hitting bombs
jesus christos - July 13, 2009
he's gonna be gased in the finals.
lexmarklover - July 13, 2009
haha
“he got everything behind that one… and he’s got a lot to do that with”
Allie - July 13, 2009
I hope they have an all-star game at Wrigley soon.
Think about the HRs that could be hit.
lexmarklover - July 13, 2009
what if the wind blows _in_
cubsnlinux - July 13, 2009
Wind?
The hitters would probably still hit em all the way to Waveland or Sheffield.
I’d like to see someone hit the scoreboard. :D
But, is that even possible?
Azul Cachorro - July 13, 2009
do you think it is 500 from home plate
lexmarklover - July 13, 2009
They'd probably wait for 2014
That’s the Wrigley Field centennial.
Ace Venom - July 13, 2009
that would be sweet.
Next year is at Anaheim. That should be interesting.
lexmarklover - July 13, 2009
2012
I honestly think they have to do it at Fenway. That’s the centennial for that ballpark.
Ace Venom - July 13, 2009
rumors were saying Citi Field or Nationals Park
Didn’t they have one at Fenway pretty recently?
lexmarklover - July 13, 2009
1999
Ace Venom - July 13, 2009
that's pretty recent
lexmarklover - July 13, 2009
Fielder!!
Azul Cachorro - July 13, 2009
Except
It’s Pujols in the pic.
Azul Cachorro - July 13, 2009
Fielder was my pick from the start
bilbosbuttons - July 13, 2009 via mobile
After anything happens...
Morgan has to talk about how he said that would happen, and how he was somehow out
never seen someone so full of himself
bilbosbuttons - July 13, 2009 via mobile
Good showing
by Nelson Cruz
Here comes The Prince
Azul Cachorro - July 13, 2009
2 more day ...........
in the words of RS- JEEZ!!!!
lexmarklover - July 13, 2009
As long as this thing lasts
One might think that using hosts who could be, i don’t know, entertaining instead of arrogant, hackneyed and past their prime would be kind of important.
Gibbon Jockey - July 13, 2009
I think I just saw Sean Marshall in left field!
Nope, just a kid.
Goodie1969 - July 13, 2009
Intern in the Truck
with the quick trigger finger to mute the Fielder bad word. HA
good job kid.
Gibbon Jockey - July 13, 2009
Fielder .... good health but .... i hope your swing is ruined.
lexmarklover - July 13, 2009
i hope the curse catches up to him
jesus christos - July 13, 2009
And Prince Fielder wins it
Ace Venom - July 13, 2009
omg EA omg
lexmarklover - July 13, 2009
His name is
Goodie1969 - July 13, 2009
PRINCE FIELDER!!
Azul Cachorro - July 13, 2009
Shawn Johnson is such a cutie pie
not in the pedophile type of way if anybody is watching the celebrities game
aznsensation - July 13, 2009
unfortunetly yes I am watching this
bheidge - July 13, 2009
this game is horrible
aznsensation - July 13, 2009
nelly with a highlight dive
aznsensation - July 13, 2009
not bad
does he bat lefty?
bheidge - July 13, 2009
nope
righty.
this is weird. but sutt is having a blast.
Allie - July 13, 2009
What did you expect?
Kind of funny to see Ozzie make an error on that one though
bheidge - July 13, 2009
I love the celeb softball game
Its just fun to watch
cubsfaninatl - July 13, 2009
and the game ends because Ashanti didn't know the rules of the game...
but overall…it was a pretty fun game to watch.
aznsensation - July 13, 2009
It was more fun in person
Everyone was just messing around and having a good time. Worth my admission.
rencelas - July 14, 2009
Watching the 1995 AllStar game on MLB Network
Cubs in the game, a svelte Sammy Sosa in CF and Randy Myers closing. Riggleman coaching in the dugout.
