i think it is pretty simple; heilman is walking too many batters. he has been employed full time in mlb now for 6 seasons+; somebody must think he has potential.
why aaron will not throw strikes & challenge hitters w/his fastball that can hit 95+, combined w/ an effective change & a serviceable slider i will NEVER know
of truth to this, jesus. he is literally scared to come over the plate; his bombs are down but his walks are WAY up. shouldn’t rothschild be helping aaron w/this glitch??
First!
Ha! Two days in a row!

drewishdrewid - July 19, 2009
Took a walk earlier, no?
Clutch16 - July 19, 2009
yeah
everyone got on base, everyone scored, but Hill the only hitless
shake n bake - July 19, 2009
not so fast
we could give up 8 before this one is over
Cubbie-Tim - July 19, 2009

drewishdrewid - July 19, 2009

Cubbie-Tim - July 19, 2009
This is the "Cubs Sweep" thread!
Vermont Cubs Fan - July 19, 2009
By the way...
Where did that Bill Murray “sweep” graphic come from?
jdb-44 - July 19, 2009
Cubs 18-11 with Hill behind the plate
New anti-drug ad: Catchers who smoke weed make their team lose.
Mike Martin - July 19, 2009
uh...
drewishdrewid - July 19, 2009
er
math isn’t my strong suit… but isn’t that 7 games over .500?
Allie - July 19, 2009
Yes, it is.
Vermont Cubs Fan - July 19, 2009
i think he was knocking Soto not Hill
Cubbie-Tim - July 19, 2009
we're what?
49-46 overall?
wouldn’t that make soto at just about .500 anyway?
Allie - July 19, 2009
I wasnt knocking him
Cubbie-Tim - July 19, 2009
oh i know
i was just confused on why whats-his-face made a deal about it at all.
Allie - July 19, 2009
ditto
I was just feelign sorry for his statement and how it looked like he was sayuing Hill did drugs when i first read it
Cubbie-Tim - July 19, 2009
Yes, expand that ratio of wins to losses season long you end up like 40 games over .500
Mike Martin - July 19, 2009
I'm gonna pretend
that I didn’t just read that
mgrace17 - July 19, 2009
Wow, that's just dumb.
sue369 - July 19, 2009
no u
Mike Martin - July 19, 2009

drewishdrewid - July 19, 2009
Tomorrow
Tomorrow is WGN day on WGN radio a great fundraiser. Should be a good listen.
puckishcubsfan - July 19, 2009
who has Bill Murray ready?
MandMexpress12 - July 19, 2009
Ill grant you it isn't that important today, but sure is in a tight game.
I’m all for aggressive baserunning, it’s the mental errors of getting picked off first base that drives me crazy.
Sandberg's evil twin - July 19, 2009
who got picked off
of first today?
drewishdrewid - July 19, 2009
Ah, Hill
Ks.
drewishdrewid - July 19, 2009
2 out double by D backs. come on d-backs one base hit ties it.
MandMexpress12 - July 19, 2009
Here comes Franklin
and the dead animal on his chiny chin-chin.
Mike Martin - July 19, 2009
Larussa bringing in his closer Ryan franklin with 2 outs in 8th. going for the 1+ inning save.
MandMexpress12 - July 19, 2009
Hill strikes out.
Only starter without a hit today.
Who’s in to pitch? Is the Shark going another inning?
Vermont Cubs Fan - July 19, 2009
be nice to see
Stevens actually, you know. Pitch.
drewishdrewid - July 19, 2009
Who?
Clutch16 - July 19, 2009
the guy
who hasn’t pitched yet. Jeff Stevens? Stephens?
drewishdrewid - July 19, 2009
The new Patton?
Clutch16 - July 19, 2009
9th inning.
MandMexpress12 - July 19, 2009
I thought maybe Stevens would go 2
We should see him in the 9th though
mgrace17 - July 19, 2009
shark still out there. gets a pop out to left where Jake Fox squeezes.
MandMexpress12 - July 19, 2009
it's only the bottom of the 8th?
sheesh. One pitch, one out. Bard FO7
drewishdrewid - July 19, 2009
ground ball to baker at 3rd. two outs.
MandMexpress12 - July 19, 2009
lol at Len
the last time the Cubs swept a team in DC in four games was during the McKinley administration.
drewishdrewid - July 19, 2009
Let shark finish it...with an 8 run lead
sure is a great bonus to rest the rest of the pen.
Sandberg's evil twin - July 19, 2009
or let stephens get some work
he hasn’t pitched in like 10 days or something
Allie - July 19, 2009
Nice quick inning there.
Vermont Cubs Fan - July 19, 2009
D-backs could not pick up the guy on second with two outs. they will have to hold pujols and ludwick in eight and score in the 9th to have a chance.
MandMexpress12 - July 19, 2009
the heilman fanshot seems to be gone now
i think it is pretty simple; heilman is walking too many batters. he has been employed full time in mlb now for 6 seasons+; somebody must think he has potential.
why aaron will not throw strikes & challenge hitters w/his fastball that can hit 95+, combined w/ an effective change & a serviceable slider i will NEVER know
brian custer - July 19, 2009
...because he chokes
mgrace17 - July 19, 2009
hes probablyscared people hit bombs off him
like molina did in the 2006 NLCS
jesus christos - July 19, 2009
there isa probably a lot
of truth to this, jesus. he is literally scared to come over the plate; his bombs are down but his walks are WAY up. shouldn’t rothschild be helping aaron w/this glitch??
brian custer - July 19, 2009
b/c he's not very good
Allie - July 19, 2009
I think today's whipping boy is Hill
Look for a FanPost later tonight.
Clutch16 - July 19, 2009
He's just not
been that good Brian.
sue369 - July 19, 2009
shark is going to finish out the game it appears as he is hitting for the 2nd time today.
MandMexpress12 - July 19, 2009
nobody
to pinch hit. And those long flowing locks are slowing him down.
drewishdrewid - July 19, 2009
I still think Stevens is going to come in
Lou used everybody on his bench except Bradley and Aram so he let shark hit
mgrace17 - July 19, 2009
Off-topic question.
Does it count as a save for the Shark if he finishes this game? I have seen four-inning saves in situations similar to this one.
For example, there was this game in 2007.
Vermont Cubs Fan - July 19, 2009
I don't think so because he came in so far ahead.
slcathena - July 19, 2009
does not matter the score if is 3 or more ininngs.
MandMexpress12 - July 19, 2009
Check the surrounding comments.
If you come into a game and pitch at least the last three innings, you get a save, regardless of what the score is when you come in.
Vermont Cubs Fan - July 19, 2009
Yeah, those were after that post of mine.
Carry on. :)
slcathena - July 19, 2009
yes as long as you go last 3 of the game you win.
MandMexpress12 - July 19, 2009
No.
Because of the score, this is not a save situation.
Mike Martin - July 19, 2009
yes it will be if shark finishes it because it would be 3 or more innings to finish the game.
MandMexpress12 - July 19, 2009
if there is a 3 run diff yes
jesus christos - July 19, 2009
not true. see above.
MandMexpress12 - July 19, 2009
Or if you pitch the last three innnings of a game, regardless of score.
That also counts as a save.
Vermont Cubs Fan - July 19, 2009
Looks like Ole Shark is going to get the save in an 11-3 game.
MandMexpress12 - July 19, 2009
god i hope it doesn't get that far
a save?
yikes. where are my tums?
Allie - July 19, 2009
if you pitch the last 3 innings or more of a win regardless of the score you get credited with a save.
MandMexpress12 - July 19, 2009
That explains my question above.
Vermont Cubs Fan - July 19, 2009
Really?
I didn’t know that.
slcathena - July 19, 2009
ya one of the weird baseball rules
MandMexpress12 - July 19, 2009
I stand corrected
Rule 10.20 in the Official Rule Book states:
Credit a pitcher with a save when he meets all three of the following conditions:
(1) He is the finishing pitcher in a game won by his club; and
(2) He is not the winning pitcher; and
(3) He qualifies under one of the following conditions:
- (a) He enters the game with a lead of no more than three runs and pitches for at least one inning; or
- (b) He enters the game, regardless of the count, with the potential tying run either on base, or at bat, or on deck (that is, the potential tying run is either already on base or is one of the first two batsmen he faces; or
- © He pitches effectively for at least three innings. No more than one save may be credited in each game
Mike Martin - July 19, 2009

stephens coming in?
Allie - July 19, 2009
Yes.
Vermont Cubs Fan - July 19, 2009
stevens is lurking
jesus christos - July 19, 2009
If a Nat hits a fly ball in the 9th
Will we get to see Stevens point?
Clutch16 - July 19, 2009
so much of all the save talk since Stevens is coming in to finish there will be no sae.
However if shark pitched this inning he would have gotten a save.
MandMexpress12 - July 19, 2009
Yes, thanks for explaining it to me.
Vermont Cubs Fan - July 19, 2009
D backs down to last two outs in the game down 2-1
MandMexpress12 - July 19, 2009
one out down two more to go.

edge of the wall foul ball catch.
drewishdrewid - July 19, 2009
thought stevens was a lefty
hm. weird. i suck at remembering things lately
Allie - July 19, 2009
no because then Marshall wouldn't be used as a LOOGY
or get moved to left field to save the only lefty in the pen.
shake n bake - July 19, 2009
yeah
i get that.
i don’t know why i kept thinking he was a lefty…
Allie - July 19, 2009
One more out till I see Murray. Cannot wait.
