Interesting tidbits from pregrame interviews of Fox and Piniella
Piniella – impressed with Fuld but still thinks Soriano can carry to offense if he hits. Looking forward to getting Reed and Aram back, but no word of how gets sent.
Fox – As usual said all the right things about “still working on his swing”, the bad season so far is good for th team because it builds character, we’re having fun now because winning’s fun.. but the most interesting:
He said that Dempster is the team leader and his speech really fired up the team yesterday – and kept them all really loose througout the game. I think Dempster’s daughter returning from the hospital may end up being very important to this team.
We need long at bats there – working the pitcher.. Not routine GO’s. If Soriano insists on hitting leadoff, he has to take that approach to the plate. And Lou should held him to that.
maybe you and the Dr. Brown are taking a trip in the Delorean. But besides that I think Z will retaliate eventually in the game, just so you know “quite clearly what I meant”
Good thing the leadoff hitter who was actually sparking our offense isn’t playing today, someone might make the mistake of thinking Lou is actually a competent manager

Clutch16 - July 3, 2009

VolPowers - July 3, 2009
I can look up the splits from last year
But IIRC, he got on base more down there with less pressure.
Clutch16 - July 3, 2009
Interesting. Is there a way to see from which spot he scored more?
I’m just wondering if the OBP or the run generation is more telling.
VolPowers - July 3, 2009
Theriot 2008 Splits
Batting—-AB—-AVG—-OBP—-SLG

ChipSet - July 3, 2009
Derrek is not immune from that pitch if is located decently
Most hitters arent. Soriano takes it to a new level because he goes way beyond six inches and will swing at the ball in the dirt.
Ryanocm1 - July 3, 2009
Tone really get's set by the leadoff spot..
We need long at bats there – working the pitcher.. Not routine GO’s. If Soriano insists on hitting leadoff, he has to take that approach to the plate. And Lou should held him to that.

CUBSfaninYANKEEcountry - July 3, 2009
About a foot and a half off the line
Clutch16 - July 3, 2009
Bring him in Z!
vonde6 - July 3, 2009
C'mon, Z. Base hit here.
CUBSfaninYANKEEcountry - July 3, 2009
Time for Z Power
Cubsfanatic - July 3, 2009
2-0 to Z.
CUBSfaninYANKEEcountry - July 3, 2009
Soup thought Z was bunting?
Stupid Soup
Clutch16 - July 3, 2009
He should know Z has the legs of an 80 year-old man
Cubsfanatic - July 3, 2009
Z
bounces it past the mound. Hardy makes the throw to first, Hill to third.
drewishdrewid - July 3, 2009
Ahhh darn.
CUBSfaninYANKEEcountry - July 3, 2009
It's up to you, Sori.
CUBSfaninYANKEEcountry - July 3, 2009
I'm calling single to LF
Clutch16 - July 3, 2009
C'mon Sori-time to show back up!
VolPowers - July 3, 2009
Didn't seem like Z...
was busting it down the line like he normally does
kanderber - July 3, 2009
please do something sori
jesus christos - July 3, 2009
Okay, Fonzie, this is why you're in the lineup...
carmen_fanzone - July 3, 2009
Come on Z.. Hustle!!
Oh yeah.. I forgot.. he can’t anymore..
DisCUBbobulated - July 3, 2009
Fly ball to shallow left
Cameron races in and makes the catch. Three outs.
drewishdrewid - July 3, 2009
Sori first pitch swinging
Umm… crap
Cubsfanatic - July 3, 2009
Way to make him work Sori
VolPowers - July 3, 2009
first pitch flyout ugh
JFCubFan - July 3, 2009
too bad
jesus christos - July 3, 2009
And more failure from our sub 300 OBP leadoff man...
kanderber - July 3, 2009
Soriano patiently waits a whole one pitch to make an out.
Nice.
Goodie1969 - July 3, 2009
I want Sam Fuld back lol.
CUBSfaninYANKEEcountry - July 3, 2009
Pitch counts
Z: 40
Soup: 35
Clutch16 - July 3, 2009
Sori
works the deep count and gets a hard earned 1 pitch AB
blueballs - July 3, 2009
Fonzie needs the shrink from The Natural
VolPowers - July 3, 2009
Sori
Horrible AB!!
muffman - July 3, 2009
Heeeeeeeeeeeeee's Baaaaaaaaaaaaaaack!!
carmen_fanzone - July 3, 2009
I had a feeling the patience might only last the first at bat
Cubsfanatic - July 3, 2009
This is the interview question I want to hear asked (and then translated)
Alfonso, could you describe your approach at the plate?
VolPowers - July 3, 2009
I just love the idea
of us getting on a winning streak…. and then having the lineup changed :(
blueballs - July 3, 2009
Well done Lou
Way to put that fly swatter of a hitter back at the top of the order. Best LF in the NL folks…best LF in the NL. What an absolute butcher.
krummy12 - July 3, 2009
I'm surprised
we’re not losing, yet here you are.
drewishdrewid - July 3, 2009
Clown
Worry about other things than me. Your other posts show your lack of baseball knowledge to everyone.
krummy12 - July 3, 2009
I don't worry about you.
you’re funny. But still, this isn’t your MO.
drewishdrewid - July 3, 2009
you are such a hypocrite
telling him to worry about other things than you… the “best LF in the NL” crack, is NOTHING but a personal dig at Drew..
nobody’s impressed by your baseball knowledge.. your crap attitude is the only thing that leaves an impression
CubFanInCanberra (9387milesfromWrigley) - July 3, 2009
Gotta go with Sosa
Clutch16 - July 3, 2009
Z
Get the ball DOWN!!!
muffman - July 3, 2009
Obviously
the rest helped Soriano. Maybe it’s time to get him some more.
tharr - July 3, 2009
Dang it. 2 on, nobody out.
CUBSfaninYANKEEcountry - July 3, 2009
Counsell
bounces a hit. Braun does the same with a long single. Counsell to third, Braun at first. No outs.
drewishdrewid - July 3, 2009
Look at the wheels
On the senior citizen out there
Clutch16 - July 3, 2009
Shit, at the corners with none out
kanderber - July 3, 2009
I SAID DOWN!!!!
muffman - July 3, 2009
Prince gets worn out quick I hope thats a healthy drink

Eric16 - July 3, 2009
Oh my God... is that even a drink?!
kanderber - July 3, 2009
I hope so
I tried posting the picture but I messed up somewhere still learning how to post pics
Eric16 - July 3, 2009
That would make sense as champagne or something...
except that the Brew Crew hasn’t had much reason to douse themselves during Prince’s tenure.
aldimond - July 3, 2009
So
this is the inning Z loses his focus?
blueballs - July 3, 2009
Apparently so
Clutch16 - July 3, 2009
Z
hits Fielder. Bases loaded, no outs.
drewishdrewid - July 3, 2009
oh cripes
jesus christos - July 3, 2009
uh oh
Emelie - July 3, 2009
Dunce on the mound!
Itchy - July 3, 2009
Frickin head case....it's really getting old
VolPowers - July 3, 2009
OK
Z in a little trouble out there
Clutch16 - July 3, 2009
Oh holy hell
what is going on
chitownhawkeye - July 3, 2009
Z
losing focus probably because Sori had a 1 pitch AB with a runner on third
blueballs - July 3, 2009
you have no idea why Z is losing focus
sue369 - July 3, 2009
Neither do you
but I could be right or wrong doesn’t matter
blueballs - July 3, 2009
I wasn't the one
making a stupid comment
sue369 - July 3, 2009
lol
hmmmm thought u were not suppose to make personal attacks
blueballs - July 3, 2009
Let the games begin!!

Ron: boyoboyoboy
Emelie - July 3, 2009
Ron Santo..

ccav23 - July 3, 2009
Lou.. "look.. what am I supposed to do?"
well.. I’m not a manager, but………………
DisCUBbobulated - July 3, 2009
McGeehee
to the plate.
drewishdrewid - July 3, 2009
A triple play can get Z out of the inning!
We can only hope.
Urbanfury - July 3, 2009
Brewers lead the league in HBP
Wonder why
Clutch16 - July 3, 2009
Setting up the triple play, right?
mykalmorgan - July 3, 2009
Popped up foul
to Zambrano. Fox covers home, everyone holds.
drewishdrewid - July 3, 2009
and zambrano once again
pitches like a back-end rotation starter. Soriano is probably thankful it takes the spotlight off of his disgraceful at bats.
BeltwayCubsFan - July 3, 2009
He'll never mature enough to be a #1
Itchy - July 3, 2009
Oh, shut up.
Two singles and then one bad pitch and he’s a back-end rotation starter? Give me a break.
kanderber - July 3, 2009
Really?
That’s a pretty quick jump to “Z sucks.”
mykalmorgan - July 3, 2009
Strong overreaction
CubsBullsBears - July 3, 2009
Nice, Z!
kanderber - July 3, 2009
theres 1
Ryanocm1 - July 3, 2009
Z makes up for it with a great catch!
Emelie - July 3, 2009
Yes! Nice pitch there!
CUBSfaninYANKEEcountry - July 3, 2009
YES
That’s as good as a K right there.
Goodie1969 - July 3, 2009
Hope they
dont run a squeeze play
ccav23 - July 3, 2009
we all know what happens when they do…
jesus christos - July 3, 2009
It's not Lilly out there, at least
Clutch16 - July 3, 2009
I find it funny
he has only thrown 4 pitches this inning
blueballs - July 3, 2009
Oh crap.. Cameron..
Wind blowing in?
DisCUBbobulated - July 3, 2009
*phew*
2 outs!
Urbanfury - July 3, 2009
Popped up foul to the right side
Lee makes the catch. TWO outs. Hart to the plate.
drewishdrewid - July 3, 2009
2 down
Ryanocm1 - July 3, 2009
fouls out to dlee
jesus christos - July 3, 2009
Wow....2 foul outs.....awesome
carmen_fanzone - July 3, 2009
simply huge at bat
right now
Ryanocm1 - July 3, 2009
Agree...real confidence builder or confidence taker
VolPowers - July 3, 2009
Nice work!
1 more please
Itchy - July 3, 2009
Yes!
CUBSfaninYANKEEcountry - July 3, 2009
Boy.. the brewers are playing like the Cubs have been..
DisCUBbobulated - July 3, 2009
Still only 6 pitches
blueballs - July 3, 2009
Phew...
That almost got by Hill.
CubsBullsBears - July 3, 2009
Z
Gut-check time!!
muffman - July 3, 2009
Let's go, Z.
CUBSfaninYANKEEcountry - July 3, 2009
3-0
on Hart
drewishdrewid - July 3, 2009
Throw strikes, Z....JESUS
carmen_fanzone - July 3, 2009
He's overthrowing right now
CubsBullsBears - July 3, 2009
3-1
drewishdrewid - July 3, 2009
There we go
Sinker in the zone?
Clutch16 - July 3, 2009
3-0 count
not good
Cubsfanatic - July 3, 2009
3-0
aye yi yi
jesus christos - July 3, 2009
3-1.
CUBSfaninYANKEEcountry - July 3, 2009
BOYOBOYOBOY!!!
muffman - July 3, 2009
It was
a “gosh darnit” after the walk. Gotta love it
ccav23 - July 3, 2009
ball four
walked. in. the. run.
drewishdrewid - July 3, 2009
Bleah
Clutch16 - July 3, 2009
Crap
ccav23 - July 3, 2009
Ugh...
walks one in.
Chris Dobbertean - July 3, 2009
Half-wit
Itchy - July 3, 2009
Yes, you are.
kanderber - July 3, 2009
Don't go there
Itchy - July 3, 2009
let's nip this
in the bud right now. Zambrano is not stupid, nor is he bad at his job. Every pitcher gets stuck in bad situations.
drewishdrewid - July 3, 2009
His are always of his own making
Itchy - July 3, 2009
not at all
He did this one to himself, but it is not like that all the time.
drewishdrewid - July 3, 2009
He did sort of create that situation for himself
He was frustrated and overthrowing. He got lucky on the pop-ups – that could’ve been a lot worse.
Clutch16 - July 3, 2009
Very true
Itchy - July 3, 2009
What???
Where the hell was that pitch?
CubsBullsBears - July 3, 2009
C'mon
VolPowers - July 3, 2009
FFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUU-
Urbanfury - July 3, 2009
Somebody get a defibrillator for Pat to use on Ron
He just got quiet
pfd89 - July 3, 2009
Hardy to the plate.
outside. Ball one.
Cmon, Z. Getting out of this with one run is fine.
drewishdrewid - July 3, 2009
I'm sorry but Z just got robbed right there.
It was a strike when Theriot was batting.
Goodie1969 - July 3, 2009
That first pitch to Kendall was a strike
VolPowers - July 3, 2009
Popup
CubsBullsBears - July 3, 2009
Bucket hats
are not cool…
Cubsfanatic - July 3, 2009
Pop fly
Lee makes the catch. THREE OUTS! Alright!
Only one run, that’s a good exit, considering.
drewishdrewid - July 3, 2009
All in all, ok inning.
CUBSfaninYANKEEcountry - July 3, 2009
Only Z can make a 12 or so pitch inning look like that
VolPowers - July 3, 2009
Geez
I go to lunch and we start walking in runs, at least we’re out of the inning
StevenABQ - July 3, 2009
Crap.
No excuse for that inning
pfd89 - July 3, 2009
12 pitch inning for Z
That’s good, right?
Clutch16 - July 3, 2009
Could have been worse....
Let’s get those bats moving…
carmen_fanzone - July 3, 2009
Good riddance to THAT inning..
DisCUBbobulated - July 3, 2009
1 run should not win this game
mitigated the damage, but could have been better.
Ryanocm1 - July 3, 2009
Yes, but it could have been MUCH worse.
CUBSfaninYANKEEcountry - July 3, 2009
Cubs have to score one to win, anyway.
One run after runners on the corner with no outs is respectable. Just wish those runners hadn’t been on to start with.
mykalmorgan - July 3, 2009
Some runs now
would be greatly appreciated.
sue369 - July 3, 2009
Agreed.
mykalmorgan - July 3, 2009
The best thing
that happened that inning was Rothschild’s trip to the mound. In the past he and Lou wait until the damage is done,
tharr - July 3, 2009
Time for a crooked one....wait for it.....
VolPowers - July 3, 2009
Let's go, Riot.
CUBSfaninYANKEEcountry - July 3, 2009
Was anybody listening to the game
last night when Ron called DLee’s first home run “Majestic”. It just sounded funny
ccav23 - July 3, 2009
yeah that was good times
Cubsfanatic - July 3, 2009
I'll take another one
Clutch16 - July 3, 2009
Riot to the plate
1-2
drewishdrewid - July 3, 2009
Taken
called strike three on the outside corner.
Lee to the plate, none on, one out.
drewishdrewid - July 3, 2009
Lee
HBP. Ump issues a warning.
drewishdrewid - July 3, 2009
Not a good AB Riot
carmen_fanzone - July 3, 2009
RETALIATION!
Itchy - July 3, 2009
Up yours, Soup
Clutch16 - July 3, 2009
classy suppan, classy
jesus christos - July 3, 2009
really. hope the ump nails him
Emelie - July 3, 2009
I hate this
Emelie - July 3, 2009
Soup with the payback.
Both benches warned.
Goodie1969 - July 3, 2009
Uncool.
Urbanfury - July 3, 2009
Dammit Suppan.
CUBSfaninYANKEEcountry - July 3, 2009
Cmon Bradley
make them pay.
drewishdrewid - July 3, 2009
Ouch!
Cubsfanatic - July 3, 2009
This game could get interesting from here....
VolPowers - July 3, 2009
Not putting together many good at bats against Suppan
Ryanocm1 - July 3, 2009
Well Big Z
is good as gone
ccav23 - July 3, 2009
from the game
ccav23 - July 3, 2009
can I quote you on that
when he comes back out for the top of the 4th?
drewishdrewid - July 3, 2009
that would be odd, since the next time he could come out would be the top of the fifth
WanderingWanderer - July 3, 2009
whups
the point still stands.
drewishdrewid - July 3, 2009
it is the bottom of the 4th
so sure
ccav23 - July 3, 2009
you know
quite clearly what I meant.
drewishdrewid - July 3, 2009
I am not sure
maybe you and the Dr. Brown are taking a trip in the Delorean. But besides that I think Z will retaliate eventually in the game, just so you know “quite clearly what I meant”
ccav23 - July 3, 2009
Phil Rogers?
CubsBullsBears - July 3, 2009
ok
sue369 - July 3, 2009
F that...
I’m all for retaliation when the original was intentional. F you Suppan
kanderber - July 3, 2009
agreed.
Urbanfury - July 3, 2009
Let the fireworks begin....
carmen_fanzone - July 3, 2009
wow, nice to see Jeff Suppan mowing us down.
Good thing the leadoff hitter who was actually sparking our offense isn’t playing today, someone might make the mistake of thinking Lou is actually a competent manager
WanderingWanderer - July 3, 2009
Yeah, Z was *really* throwing at Prince...
Clutch16 - July 3, 2009
wow really crappy strike zone
jesus christos - July 3, 2009
Not a strike...
carmen_fanzone - July 3, 2009
Zone's all over the place today
CubsBullsBears - July 3, 2009
Now Z must be careful
Itchy - July 3, 2009
Yeah, I'd imagine Z is a little pissed right now.
Hopefully he doesn’t do anything stupid.
Urbanfury - July 3, 2009
3-1
on Bradley
drewishdrewid - July 3, 2009
Should be a 3-0 count
blueballs - July 3, 2009
Good eye, MB
Clutch16 - July 3, 2009
YAY MB
mykalmorgan - July 3, 2009
Base hit
up the left side! Lee to third, Bradley with the single! An EXCELLENT piece of hitting on a low and away pitch!
drewishdrewid - July 3, 2009
I like hit and run!
when it works
Cubsfanatic - July 3, 2009
Hit-and-run!
And it worked!
Clutch16 - July 3, 2009
Beautiful hit and run there
CubsBullsBears - July 3, 2009
My god
was that a hit and run?
chitownhawkeye - July 3, 2009
And it worked!
Clutch16 - July 3, 2009
Oh, look at that.
Lee on 3rd.
FU Suppan.
Urbanfury - July 3, 2009
don't understand "retaliating" by putting a runner on with just one out
in a 1-0 game. Hopefully Suppan’s punk move will bite him in the arse
WanderingWanderer - July 3, 2009
hit and run o riii
jesus christos - July 3, 2009
wheeee!
Emelie - July 3, 2009
WTG Milton! You accidentally got a hit!
VolPowers - July 3, 2009

muffman - July 3, 2009
Wow! MB executes the perfect hit and run!
Itchy - July 3, 2009

drewishdrewid - July 3, 2009
Good job MB!
Chris Dobbertean - July 3, 2009

muffman - July 3, 2009

blueballs - July 3, 2009

why not 1 extra for free!

OT: woot! Palin announces she won't run for re-election as governor.
carry on.
Emelie - July 3, 2009
good for Alaska, but you know what she IS running for now....
carmen_fanzone - July 3, 2009
my thoughts exactly
sue369 - July 3, 2009
actually I'm not sure it's confirmed. it's breaking news...
Emelie - July 3, 2009
Crap!
Pathetic.
Itchy - July 3, 2009
just as pathetic as batting someone who didn't hit .200 last month in the #5 hole
I swear to god Lou continues to try and prove he doesn’t know how to manage his way out of a paper bag
WanderingWanderer - July 3, 2009
AAUGH!!!!
