Marshall stays in
Small wonders
Pre-empting SWL

Marshall back out
I'm not sure I like this game so far.
after prado u got andreson and mcaan
First

Not that it matters

you're right

it doesn’t matter

WHERE DID THAT PITCH MISS?
Lets see ...

No runs in overflow 1, then 1 run in overflow 2, so how about 2 runs this thread?!

Works for me...

as long as we can hold ’em.

How about 10 runs in this thread?
I like this train of thought
I guess, but

one run in overflow 1, then 1 run in overflow 2 …

allowed obviously
walks prado to start the 7th
Setting up the 4-6-3
not with this second base umpire
Missed all that joy

Quick summary, please?

called Dome

out when he was clearly safe in the first.

Bleah

Damn you, work! I could have been cursing at an ump!

missed two calls. one in the first inning calling kosuke out at second on force play.

len called it worst call he has ever seen. than when we were on field on a routine double play ball he ruled theriots foot came off the bag when it was very very close – so we only got the runner at first. You couldn’t even tell if his foot was off the bag or not on replay.

I'll take a strikeout too.
Lefty Andreson up--But as I pointed out last night. has good average vs leftys.
strikes out andreson. One Out
Danger (Mcaan) Steps in to the box
2 Cs, 2 Ns

1 A

And an M.
If you wanna get all nit-picky about it

:P

another run down
Mcaan hits into DOUBLE PLAY

cant even describe it but we needed it

You mean it happens to other teams?

I’m shocked!

Yeah, I don't know what the hell just happened...

…but I like the result.

Gameday is...confused
"They've got the man in a rerun!"
?

LOL - Pat Hughes completely tripped over himself trying to call that play.
time for the stretch!

EVERYBODY SING!

awesome

don’t think that’s good fundamentals, but it was fun to see

Double play!!!!

Let’s get some runs!!!

Bradley with the leadoff walk, I'm going out on a limb.
Ronnie sorta lost it

What happened?

Doug Glanville is butchering it…

3-6-3-4 DP

Just like they always practice it

with a jumping catch/diving tag
but marshall had to make diving tag. i thought he might have missed him especially with

our buddy being the second base umpire

Santo channeling his inner Eric:

“WHAT THE HECK IS GOING ON? GEE WHIZ!”

and that's why I love

Ron Santo. He calls the game like he’s sitting in front of his tv at home, with his buddies. That was awesome.

There is such a charm to his exclamations.

GOLLY GEE WHIZ! GOSH!

yeah, who wants a guy who calls the game like he has a clue?
He does

just fine. Pat does too. Ron just brings an element of… home to the booth.

HAHAHAHAHAHA!

He lost it there for a bit. I don’t know exactly why…

Because that rundown was executed so poorly!!
LET'S GET SOME RUNS!
Well judges, what do you think of this singer?

Where's Kara?
that was your standard 6-4-3-5-3-1-4-2-3-4 double play!
3-6-3-4
with a great diving tag. i thought he was going to miss him. or tag him and the ump miss it.
Nice rendition by Glanville!
again...they should just have a bench player or pitcher do it from now on.
I know my eyes aren't good

but gameday’s may be worse. Lee to Theriot to Lee to Baker? Huh?

Marshall involved in some way, too?

Scorer dude must have burned out his keyboard

No idea

hope that makes BBTN. I want to see it.

Baker had to outrun the runner to get in front, jump for the throw

and dive to tag

Submariner peter moylan in and quickly gets 4-3 ground out by milton

buster bradley grounds out

Hey look...

another infield out by Bradley!

STOP LETTING HIM BAT LEFTHANDED!!!
Why is he reaching...

For that low and away garbage, especially early in the count.

Left handed Milton? Why?
Yay Foxy! 1B to Right.
Don't get too excited

Baker is up.

Fox singles

1 on and one out for Baker.

Fox singles

fontenot hitting for baker

We did :D

Thanks.

Why did we get Baker if Fontenot has to hit for him?

Blanco would be better as a fielder.

I have seen nothing to suggest

Bradley is going to be a valuable left handed hitter.

Given his decent but not outstanding career numbers as a lefty, that is Hendry’s most indefensible decision.

Can we pinch hit

Well, anyone else here?

Is Glanville available?
He's there

Sign him and throw a jersey on him. He’s left-handed, correct?

He's already wearing a jersey.
Scratch that

Fonty in to pinch for Baker.

I'm sure those of you who mobile post

are excited to be able to comment here… but i sure hope the paragraph goes away soon. ANNOYING!

Little bit, yeah
I just heard Carlos Zambrano was singing the 7th inning stretch from press box before gates opened
They need

Mr. T

Oh wait. Too late. He already did it.

yep

L&B twitter that he’s got a good voice.

6-4-3 inning over.

does not get more routine more than that

6-4-3 DP

Third of the game. Ron was not pleased.

3rd double play cubs have hit into
What's the record for most GDP by a team?

In a major league game, of course.

Pinch hitting Fontenot: FAIL for Lou.
rytdrtujdfy

dhfjhjxstygjzsdfgzsfg

You can say that again!
This offense can go pound sand!

any idea who what is? She sure has a nice sand castle
any ideao who she is? She sure has a nice sand castle
Man I love those two sand hills.
I'm ready to hit in the 2 hole!
2ND Baseman

this team is in need of a real 2nd baseman.

They need more than that

They’re not the only ones who left men on base today.

we have one

he’s playing SS

It's contagious

It’s the mysterious “offense can’t produce consistently” bug that has infested this team.

Why was Fontenot batting?

He’s been terrible all damn year!! What is this the bizarro world? The guy is a utility infielder hitting .230!!! What a damn sick joke!!

Been hot lately

And he can play 2B

Not hot

A bit better, but not hot by any means.

been hitting better last 4 days
It is possible the Cubs are going to give up only two runs

in each game this series, and lose two of three. What a frustrating, and in many respects, sad season so far.

That was pretty similar to the old losing streak

The pitching was good enough to win, but the offense was asleep at the wheel.

And there is nothing Hendry can really do

he can only upgrade at one spot in the middle infield because he has saddled himself with some of the worst contracts in the game. If he hadnt, guys like Nate McLouth could have been available to him.

Yep, the amount of money tied up in non-producers

like Soriano, Bradley, and Dempster is just sickening.

Dempster

is a non-producer?

Remember that playoff performance?

Add this year’s flat tire and I’d label him a non-producer.

"non-producer" is pretty extreme
it's 100% accurate
Based on what?

He put up ace numbers last year and, all in all, he’s been a solid middle-of-the-rotation starter this year. How is he not producing?

flat tire?

he was nails for most of last year. Dood. Maybe you need a xanax.

good grief
FFS

I think Drew’s right. You do need a xxanax. Good lord.

Heilman in
Oh crap

Oh crapOh crapOh crapOh crapOh crapOh crapOh crapOh crapOh crapOh crapOh crapOh crapOh crapOh crapOh crapOh crapOh crapOh crapOh crap

Heilman has been

pretty damn good lately.

And he's in.
Here
damn lucky lately.

Fixed that for you

cmon, Allie

he’s making good pitches. It’s not like any other pitcher has control over where the ball goes when it’s hit.

Heilman in
Just now checking in

I see nothing has changed.
Kevin Hart gets a taste of non-support.
Who played Cy Young for Atlanta today? Kawakami?

You were supposed to say "Heilman in".
nothing has changed

right, the heilman hatefest continues

Oh, hi, brian. Uh, what's up?
eat me
are you light meat

or dark meat?

What’s your cholesterol content?

What's funny is I'm pretty sure I haven't said anything bad about Heilman in this thread.
if he was, you know, good, there wouldn't be a hatefest
Escobar up and as he fouls one off. I see mike the "rocker" gonzalez
Escoabar flys out to left one away
careful

you’ll light the creepy custer signal…

Ugh, you're right.
and he's here

complaining about the “heilman hatefest”. gag

You called it!
In other news

Michael Jackson is dead

the world is a cruel place…

Kotchman walks on 4 pitches.
Has Heilman ever had a perfect inning?
3 walks a WP and an error

isn’t that perfect?

he's had

a 1-2-3 inning, if that’s what you mean. In the last two weeks, I think.

Yeah, that's what I meant.

Seems like he walks someone on 4 pitches every time out.

he threw a complete game 1 hitter

against the marlins

When?
look it up yourself

loser

brian, dude, I was just kidding...I love Aaron Heilman...

PLEASE DON’T KILL ME!

four freaking years ago

and it was the only complete game of his career

That

was impressive

4 straight balls. Walk.

Heilman faces Francoeur.

anybody else getting the feeling that Ron is butchering this trivia question?
yep

Ron meant the 90’s instead of the 80’s.

actually, he didn't

The question is two players who had 100 hits in the 1980’s. Both Sheffield and Griffey came up in the 1980s and both did have at least 100 hits in that decade.

confirmed
For those who wanted it for framing. Yes it did break the record for number of recs. It actaully almost doubled it.

Is that70?
Yes

We need 100.

Gimme the link

I’ll rec it

Here ya go

Best post ever

Rec'd

And Rec’d

haha

It’s gotten four recs since I’ve posted the pic,

Ditto, and ditto.

Al needs to put that in a permanent homepage sidebar so we can all easily find it on hard days.

There has to be more people that visit this site.

maybe we should go into the new posters post and tell them its required.

70 Recs!

ERIC HANNA – YOU ARE A LEGEND!

maybe we should put up a new fanpost

that just links to the Hannashrine. We could rec it so that people can still get to the Hanna post and rec that.

Not a bad idea.

He deserves it! I mean, HE DESERVES IT!

BOOOO

It has 70 recs… I thought we would stop at 69.

Up to 74 now
This poor guy probably hung himself...

He joined, created that post after the 2 day waiting period, and never posted again…

Or is it hanged?

I never get that correct.

Francouer pops out to left two away.
Francouer flies to Fox

2 away.

Conrad pops out to theriot
INNING OVER
wow

heilman really sucked.

something about a blind squirrel................
Let's get some runs!!

Now!

Come on Cubbies lets get Aramis up this inning
Call Nefi....he's Aram's personal fluffer.
This is a horrible question...

But what inning is it?

Heilman

17 pitches 9 strikes.

not good.
but he didn't allow a run!

he did “fine”!

ok since this went well last time

Hill walk, PHer single, Dome double, Gregg closes out, Cubs win.

Come on Cubbies we cant lose TWO 2-1 games in a row before an off day.
Just make sure you use this if they do

Photobucket

Wrong one

Copied the wrong one:

Photobucket

MIke "The Rocker" Gonzalez on
the rocking asshole again

damn

Can't stand this guy.
reed pinch hitting
pinch sac bunting
C'mon Cliff!
he bunts on frist picth. one out hill on second
I want to punch this pitcher.
You and me both
It's no worse than Demp's glove flip

It’s how he gets his rhythm

Demp doesn't do it for rhythm. He does it to avoid tipping his pitches
Big difference

This is just annoying

Why???

Kosuke should NOT face any lefties!

Maybe he'll bunt, too
And Milton should not face any righties.
Fukudome up. tough spot facing a lefty. just swang at bad pitch.

yunel just stole a hit

Also want to punch Escobar in the face
I wanted to

Before that.

Escobar is evil
GOD YUNEL STEALS A HIT AND POSSIBLY A RUN
ladies and gentlemen....a ML SS.
How much do they want for him?
AKA

something we’re not allowed to play.

He has to rot on the bench or play 2B.

I wish we had one!

I wish we could draft and develop stud middle infielders and outfielders like other teams do.

idk who i hate more on the braves

mclouth or frost tips

"HOW MANY TIMES DOES THIS HAPPEN?" -Ron Santo

in reference to the line drive caught by Escobar.

last year. RARELY this year. RARELY DOES IT NOT HAPPEN
mean to say

Last year it RARELY happened but his RARELY DOES IT NOT HAPPEN.

Escobar is freakin' awesome...I wish we had him...

I also hate him.

His .785 OPS is way too high for a Cubs middle infielder
and he can't even hit left handed.
Would you want him if you knew...

He goes home after games and punches kittens, kicks dogs, and makes inappropriate comments about your mother? It’s true. I read it on the “internet.”

me too

it’s not the internet so it must be true.

big deal...that's what my dad does.
You mean middle infielder's don't have to

be small, scrappy and undertalented?

they can be

but not here

baseball is not fair sometimes
Theriot grounds out inning over.
you got to be kidding me escobar.
This is garbage.

No excuses any more.

Yep, no excuses or cap tipping.

We’re the home team with the supposed awesome home record! Where’s the “Cubbie Swagger”?? Where is it??

ok, no runs in the 9th

Lee, Aram, Bradley, Fox to save the game in the bottom ninth

I think

where are getting ready for a walk off win..

I don't care

I just want a win. If it’s a walk off, I’ll take it. I’m not getting my hopes up.

It's gonna have to be today. :)
Yep, the meat of the order.
The Dead Meat of the order?
Play along, Bradley is bologna
There closer soriano has been great and has shut us down this year.

we had to get gonzalez there and he made some mistakes.

Kerry Wood was doing well until he faced the Cubs, as well...
well soriano has already owned us THIS YEAR.multiple times
Let's face it

The Braves have owned us this year.

well if we would have won today season series would be split
Are they in the running with Uttay and Ricketts?
You're talking about Alfonso, right? ;-)
Uh, actually, I don't think he was.
He had converted 12 or 13 or 14 opportunities
Oh, OK.

Seems like his other numbers have been pretty bad all year.

Bradley will win it.
ya and Michael Jackson will rise from the dead
Now you got Thriller stuck in my head

Thanks a lot.

he's not dead.
he's living on 2Pacs secret tropical island
He's not dead. In fact, he's still at Neverland.

LINK

Sure he will.

He is so clutch.

Especially hitting lefty!!!
A loss today makes 3 out of 4 against St. Louis essential

and unlikely.

INSERT HYPERBOLE HERE
Yep. Nothing like entering a huge series with your worst pitcher going

and 4 regulars batting below .240!!! I’m sure the Redbirds are worried!!

you know

there is punctuation OTHER than the exclamation point?

Yes?
THEN USE THEM

good lord. everything you write sounds like a whiny Eric Hanna post.

It's the Drama Queen syndrome.

Lots of guys in here have it.

Go haunt someone else's house.
STRIKE THREE!

Gregg!

full count to blanco and gregg strikes him out. one out
Mclouth singles on 100 hopper
where the f did that one miss?
looked like under his dive
i meant the first pitch

but thanks. which pasta diver missed it?

Single up the middle

One on one out.

Prado singles ad fukudome cost us a run and the game
Not yet

But it was pretty much done a long time ago. This team is going back to .500.

shit
What is...

how the Cubs are playing, Alex?

WHAT ARE YOU DOING THERE
Well, this day couldn't get any worse
If you had said that earlier,

It just did.

How's that?

Not getting better.

if your day depends on the cubs

you’re cheering for the wrong team

E8?

He drop it?

I don't think so

he just missed it, and overran the ball. :(

bounced in front of him

and he missed it, under his glove

No, did his Jake Fox imitation.
Well it went from Suck to Blow!
ooooh

now this is gonna be hard to come back from.

WHAT WAS FUKUDOME THINKING HIS MISTAKE COST US TWO RUNS.
it wouldn't have been an out

so just the one

well

he’s not responsible for a wild pitch.

but he is responsible for the guy scoring on it
I don't even know

if the play was scored as an error, but without the wild pitch, the run doesn’t score. I realize it’s his fault the guy got to third.

he is responsible for letting him to get to third. should have been first and second or first n third at worst.
Ah, for Christ's sake

This is what happens sometimes when you put a closer in a non-save situation.

especially if your "closer" is Kevin Gregg
its a pretty universal

closer thing

len and bob, shut up.

that was simply a horrible play by dome, the worst i’ve ever seen him make. this team is playing like shit.

Welcome back

.500 again. The real challenge will be to finish the season at .500 because screw trying to make a run at this one.

an error by two different outfielders in the same game has got to be a rarity
Okay, I'm thinking we may be in a little trouble here.
FUKUDOME IT WAS NOT EVEN A BALL YOU COULD CATCH. WHAT WERE YOU DOING.
alright, Eric

settle down.

my name is not eric?
I'm sorry, complaints about that must be posted up above with the other bitching about Dome's misplay.
The wheels on the bus are coming off, coming off, coming off, the wheels on the bus are coming off...

… in the ninth inning…

Everybody sing along!

Heads up asses once again!

Outplayed and outmanaged by a real baseball team once again.

self destruction

atleast they didnt shut us out, right?

I'd rather they'd get shut out

They certainly deserve to get shut out with the way they’ve played today

I hope McCann homers so Soriano doesn't get the save chance

I have to start thinking about my fantasy match up this week now since we suck.

this series has really hurt.

lost ground to cards/brewers.

suck.

Every time I think this team has turned a corner

they completely shit the bed.
Silly me.

it does make it hard to imagine them making a run.
Now that's funny

Put one word from his post together with run and you’ve got good humor.

Yep, we were flying high on Monday night

now we’re back in the crapper with our tails between our legs and the Redbirds coming in ready to play.

I'll say it again

I’ve seen worse. Remember 1997?

They are just

setting us up for a huge rally in the Ninth.

Cubs are terrible

they suck

I've seen worse
yeah i've watched a lot of pirates games myself
not with the payroll this team has
I've seen worse
u must be blind then
go back and worry about the white sox.
have you not watched the mets at all this year?
When I watch the Mets

I feel like I’m watching a remake of Major League except Charlie Sheen has been replaced by Emilio Estevez.

Thank you for your piercing insight
troll alert. go worry about the white sox.
i don't worry about the sox - they actually worry me.
that was a boo-worthy team performance.
Time for 4 runs in the 9th.
wishful thinking but no chance

lets be realistic here

if we were realistic

how many of us would’ve picked the cubs as “our team”?

What? We could pick?

No one told me. I’ll always be a Cubs fan.

you get to pick

but you can never change you mind once you do.

Sure you can...

I was a fan of the Oakland Raiders, but renounced them for as long as Al Davis stays in charge. And as he is the prince of darkness, he will be there forever.

should have said never*

*=exception

its kinda like a buffet

the first piece of chicken you pick up is yours for the duration.

With the Cubs its “life”.

I wish my grandad had showed me games like this before he asked me.

would you really

have picked another team?

Probably not

but there are times when I wish I’d never started to like baseball at all.

Its a cruel cruel game sometimes.

every team has games like these.
they have

done it before. The braves just scored 3 in the top of the 9th, why can’t we score 4 in the bottom?

cuz we have scored 2 in about 25 innings
all the more reason

to do it now.

actually it was proof we couldn't
bull

it’s not proof of anything except that we didn’t.

because they're better than us
nah.
yeah
whatever

I don’t believe it. The Cubs are a good team, just not playing to potential.

you say that for a stretch but its been over half a year now.

I am an optimist but I am not even sure.

over half a year? It’s July. The season started in April. That’s four months.

over half a season. we have played more than half our games
how about half a season Mr. Semantics
take a chill

It was a legitimate question.

Yes, we’ve played over half our games. We’re still in it. We just took 3 of 4 from the Brewers. I’m not giving up.

we are in it because the division is terrible

not because we are good

you know what i meant.
actually

I didn’t.

yes you did, you love to argue semantics when you've got nothing else
no, dood

I didn’t. And what nothing else do I have? We’re in the hunt, while not playing to potential. We’ll play better. I believe. I don’t need anything else.

belief.

that’s it?

don't need anything else.

read my sig.

i don't know they're pretty sloppy.

loose fundamentals. walk a lot of batters. mediocre team.

don't forget the full on vapor lock they get with runners on

and poor managing

Believe what you want

The record says it all.

the record

that says we took 3-4 from the Brewers, and we’re two games out of it?

what does beating the Brewers have to do with being better than the Braves?
what does

beating a division rival have to do with being better than a non-division rival?

Really?

no ...

that would require hitting AND scoring.

I'd take 3 I guess
☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺
D-lee swinging for 3 run home run with no one on base when we need base runners.
I think he's cooled off a bit.
And really

You think they’d keep pitching to him with how he was hitting coming into this series? Lee isn’t the only problem here.

Yeah for what 2 freakin days?
he's had a rough couple of games.

if he’s slowing down, we’re gonna stall.

At least he's trying
but he should have been trying for a single
hey everybody

look at that picture of Fonty and Francour at the top.

Um.

Where’s Fonty’s other leg?

Behind him
You can see his left foot behind his hip
that's not

his batting glove?

He looks like a crane or a heron.

lost it in the war, he did

lost it in the clone wars, he did
aramis pops out.
Bradley will hit a 4 run HR

buster bradley

where did this come from?

who’s buster?

Milton's

our last chance. Joy!

Milton, Fox and Baker all together are our last chance
doesn't look good

although braves’ bp is nothing great

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
yes that cures everything!

look at that!

they deserve it, im being honest bout them

Im not babying them like everybody else here

he is white sox fan.
NO,

Absolutely not

well

then who do you root for? Because it wouldn’t appear that it’s the cubs.

He roots for the Cubz. They never lose.
you stay classy

annnd bradley still sucks

Wow! the guy seems to be getting worse.

I thought you SabreDorks said it was statistically impossible for him to stay this bad?

Pretty sure no one actually said that.
I'm statistically certain

that no one said that.

Very disappointing result.

coach

I'm ready for

a day off tomorrow.

they should take the rest of the season off
go for it

you don’t have to watch.

your comments are tiring
why?

if you’re tired of the team, don’t watch. games go on without you.

if your day becomes too dependent on a game, its time for a break.

people are entitled to react, however they want

to a very frustrating game.

Everytime someone vents, it is not your responsibility to chastise them. It gets tiring.

I vent too

Offering PERSPECTIVE isn’t chastising.

Logic and reason

Do not apply.

I respectfully disagree

telling a cubs fan not to watch because they are frustrated isnt perspective

Telling someone it may be time for them to take a break

seems like perspective to me.

YMMV.

no one has

a gun to your head making you read her posts.

of course not

and I never said otherwise. But the consistent criticism of other people’s posts is grating.

you mean like the constant stream of

“Cubs suck. They don’t play hard. They don’t care. They’re lazy. They stink.”?

You are not required to respond to that

seems to me that is probably the better response.

You weren't required to

respond to Allie either.

True, and most of the time I dont

and maybe I shouldnt have but I thought it was worth mentioning.

How bout this, from here on out, none of us, including me, will criticize another’s post for being inane, stupid, annoying or what have you. Just ignore it if you dont like it.

And I usually try

but if your day is dependent on a GAME, you need someone to tell you to take a step back.

And I’ll stand by that.

Part of why I suggested...

…grabbing a beer. Life goes on.

Ok

I hear where you are coming from although I dont necessarily agree.

Have a nice evening and lets take 3 of 4, at least, from the cards.

bitching is grating too.
that response doesn't actually make sense
yes it does
"They should take the rest of the season off"

“go for it”

Is a nonsensical response. Unless he’s part of “they”

They Live

Great movie.

then stop watching them
Oh right

You sure you didn’t put up a bid to buy the team?

130 million only buys 41-41
+100
get out of here white sox dbag
Me?

Oh yeah. Him.

cubz24. these trolls are so easy to figure out. they care more about cubs losing than sox or whoever else winning.
Thats not true at all

I am a die hard cubs fan, so do not even question that, I am just very frustrated, im sorry

Put things in perspective

A lot of people are in hard times right now. So the Cubs are 41-41 right now. If they finish at .500 this year, there’s always next year. There’s more to life than baseball.

People are saying im a sox fan, not even close to being true
your only on here when cubs lose. and most of your action is AL teams.

you are not fooling me. never been on when they have one. i checked your record.

never been on when cubs have won.

all your posts in game threads are from AL games and losses. pretty obvious there cubz

you are not smart
smarter than you
where are you getting Whitesox from?
Good because...

My inflation remark was an attempt to lighten the mood.

They deserve to be booed after that.

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Sloppy, sloppy, sloppy game.

Oh well gotta ho prepare for the big series against the crads.

Perfect ending

To this crap sundae of a game. Let’s go get a beer.

Wow.

Another ugly loss. They did not look ready to play.

They looked ready

They just got outplayed today like they have in 41 of the games they played this season.

30 million dollars spent to a worthy Kause

I wonder

if losing Demp has anything to do with this, or losing Demp and Soto…

I wasn't aware that Demp was a good offensive player
no

but losing a strong contributor and leader like Demp can still be a blow.

is it time to start making excuses up? He is still in the dug out.

these guys are professional Athletes if they let dempsters toe injury affect their offense they should be sent to Iowa and a shrinks office.

I'm not making an excuse

I’m wondering if it had an effect.

well, plenty of people on here already claimed the team would get tons better once ARAM

was back, I guess now we can start rationalizing the poor play as losing someone else. It’s never the team on the field’s fault I guess

Aramis hasn't been back long

It’s not like there aren’t more games left to play.

did I say that?

I’m darn sure I didn’t say that.

What did you say?
They're all weak and soft

Can a day go by without someone pulling up lame?

WE SCORED TWO RUNS IN TWO GAMES IT WAS NOT PITCHING
I'm not suggesting that the loss of him as a pitcher is the problem

but the weight of saying “wow, he’s out for several weeks, can we handle it”.

That’s all. There’s more to this then their play on the field.

you really believe that is a factor or even can be a factor?
sorry

about my nasty posts

as I say to my son

don’t be sorry… just don’t do it.

Alright

well, a day off tomorrow, which sucks, but lets them rest. Hopefully Soto isn’t as big a deal as it could be, and we get Demp back soon. Big series starts on Friday!

+1 that is the right attitude drew.
point of refrence. pretty sure dodgeres last year had worse record than 500 at this point.

in 2006 I know cardinals had worse record than 500 late in the season.

Dodgers acquired a player that turned their offense around

if we do that, we have a chance. They didn’t stand pat and hope everything suddenly got better

true thats why i included 2006 cardinals
who won thanks in large part to the rest of the NL falling down
other than the dodgers

do you see a great team in the NL this year?

just gotta get in… who knows what can happen after that.

(in order to get in though, we’ll definitely have to start winning more consistently.)

we just have make the playoffs

a wild card will do

Hopefully they

play better this weekend.

I think they will

To me it seems like they play very hard against the division and don’t even try when they aren’t playing the divsion.

Yeah, disappointing series.

Just have to hope the team gets some rest and comes out swingin’ against the Cards. At least the Cubs won’t keep us up the next couple nights.

this was a big series, which we lost.
We need

ARami to get back on track. Right now, if DLee doesn’t hit, we don’t win.

We really missed Fonzie's bat in the lineup today....

(LOL)

Need to get the bats going this weekend, Cubbies. Let’s hope the Brewers help us out tonight/tomorrow.

I’ve already forgotten this game.

Hope no one jumps a railing on the off day.

Box score is ugly.

0-3 RISP, 4 LOB, 3 GIDP, and pitching handed out 7 walks.

Yuck.

0-3

Is better than being 0-4. That’s a small consolation.

Lou told the reporters

to ask the team why they are not hitting.

Wow

It was about time someone said that, but to have it come from Lou is needed. Could it be his way of trying to light a fire under them?

Lou:

“Fox will be back up catcher until we know anything about Soto” (Friday)

“I’ve tried to answer the question all year. Go ask the players why they aren’t hitting”

so as usual, he puts the players in a position to fail

and when they do, he throws them under the bus

Lou's got a point...
Which is my point
he'd have a point, except he hit Soriano in the leadoff spot about a month longer than he should have

and continues to insist that Bradley bat left handed despite his huge struggles.

Given Soriano's history

Could you blame him? The fact that Soriano’s funk lasted that long is baffling. Bradley is also a switch hitter. Why wouldn’t he bat left?

yes. I can blame him for doing it when everyone else on the planet knew he shouldn't

same with Bradley. At this point in the season, perhaps you stop telling Bradley to bat left handed, at least for a while. There have been other switch hitters who stopped switch hitting mid season because they were struggling so badly from one side of the plate

And?

Soriano’s slumps never lasted this long. Is he really doing that much better now? Not really. And Bradley? Who knows what’s up there?

he may not be doing much better, but he's not starting every game off with a strikeout either
A strikeout is a strikeout

Whether you lead off the game with a strikeout or end the inning with one, a strikeout is a strikeout.

Except if the leadoff hitter gets one, and then the guys following him

drive him in, there’s a difference. It’s not rocket science

on, not one
And you strike out to end the inning

And no one scores. You can fly out to begin a game. You can ground out to begin a game.

I give up. There's obviously no point in a team's leadoff hitter

actually getting on base to start a game. You’ve convinced

But there is a point

I’m just saying that I hate it when no one is actually driven in. You’ve got to get people on base to do that.

yes, and with Soriano at the leadoff spot

that was rarely the case. Which is my point

But your point

Doesn’t address the fact that he hasn’t gotten better. It’s a small sample size, but it’s a valid complaint.

Sure

That’s how it’d work in every game and every inning in a perfect world.

But no one does that. So saying that Soriano automatically fails b/c he doesn’t do it all the time doesn’t make sense.

you're just arguing to argue

you’ve admitted that it was time to move Soriano down.

I was arguing

But was she? In all seriousness, you’re not going to get on base 100% of the time.

Sort of

I am a little bored. :-P

but your argument like that doesn’t make sense. Dome doesn’t get on every time either, but he’s a cure for it?

We're all bored

What we need is a cure all. Get Brian Roberts, Mark DeRosa, Jake Peavy and maybe even the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man.

We should probably get Halladay too

Just to be sure.

Other switch hitters who have "stopped"....

Could you give an example?

Only reason I'd see

Z didn’t bat switch one night recently due to some trouble with his left wrist..

and Andres Blanco, sure....

…but WW is making it sound like quality major league ball players that switch hit do this all the time.

And I'm left wondering why Andres stopped batting switch
shoulder injury
That's it

Maybe I ought to read

He has shoulder surgery in the offseason

and doesn’t feel comfortable yet with it as his front shoulder

Yep

I purposely left myself out of the loop by not reading. That’s my story.

Explain this

Explain the magical inconsistency of this team to hit well and then suddenly stop hitting. If they were in the cellar of the division, that would be one thing. This is totally different.

It's Lou's fault, because he makes out the lineup...

…or something like that.

when have we hit well?

we’re at the bottom of the league in hitting and we are only not in the cellar because the division sucks

who has he purposly put in a position to fail this year?
Gerald Perry?
You'll expose the great conspiracy

Next thing we’ll know, the La-li-lu-le-lo are responsible.

Soriano continuing to bat leadoff LOOOOOOOONG after he'd gone ice cold

Bradley continuing to bat left handed when he’s completely worthless in that position…

Soriano is streaky

NOT sticking with him would’ve been worse than being too supportive.

Asking a S to bat from both sides… isn’t “setting someone up to fail”.

so you disagree with moving Soriano down?

Or did we magically hit that wall where it was finally okay?

and how do you get worse than hitting .220?

you’re telling me he would have hit .190 if we’d moved him down sooner?

we got to a point where it was time to try something else

maybe Bradley is there/getting there… but I don’t think we’ve PASSED that line yet.

IMO we got to that point long before we actually tried it
I agreed with the move

I expected him to come out of whatever slump he was in. This one lasted longer than usual, so this was necessary.

Soriano is a head case...

He is not a leadoff hitter and hasn’t been for years. But he pouts and goes in the tank when he doesn’t lead off, so the Cubs acquiesced to his whims.

he doesn't, and hasn't pouted

he’s only ever said he’ll bat wherever he’s played.

It’s been Lou who has said we signed him to be our leadoff hitter

Solely your opinion, nothing's been shown....

….to prove that’s even remotely true.

Whatever

I am going to go play with the dogs in the rain.

It can’t be as cold as the Cub bats lately…

Have fun
actually i lied

its REALLY cold… well not “cold” but its 50 with the wind.

50?

That would be a relief right now.

where are you at?
Louisiana

Up until this week, we hadn’t gotten much rain and it had been pretty hot (around high 90’s and even triple digits).

do the Vampires still pose a problem out there?
Only if you watch True Blood

It’s 84 out right now. It hasn’t been too bad this week.

Yuck

All we’ve had is rain. And its either been 80 and muggy as all hell or 60 and damp.

We've been needing rain down here
y'all can have it

we’ve strung maybe 3 rain-free days in a row since January.

That bad?

Yikes.

Well

There was a bit of exaggeration.. but not a whole lot.

Its been gross. We’ve needed the rain, b/c we were in a 3 year drought or something… but its getting ridiculous.

And the mosquitos are ginormous.

Wow

They haven’t been spraying up there? They spray for mosquitoes down here.

I'm out in the sticks

and apparently it has to be dry to spray.

The fact we live in a natural wetland doesn’t help.

I grew up in the sticks

I grew up in a farming community, which is a big difference.

Yeah

Lots of soybean farms around here… or there used to be. Lots of farmers have sold off the old lands to developers…. who can’t read a survery report. The natural drainage has been screwed up.

Yay for flooded basements b/c of morons.

Logic and reason

They don’t always apply.

Is that your line for the week?

:-P

I guess it is

:-P

there are worse lines to adopt
You're right

Perhaps I should try to adopt worse?

What you adopt is up to you

my friend.

Sounds good to me
This team will be the NL central champs.
I hope you're right

I just see a .500 team.

you both could be right

no one’s run away yet.

but we’re too talented on paper to play this much like garbage

In 2014
2015

Didn’t you watch Back to the Future Part II? We beat Miami in the World Series.

Doh! and I even wore my B2TF t shirt today.....
nah 2009.
2009?

I guess a lot could happen this year.

I just have this weird confidence that

this team is gonna bust out. Everybody keeps saying it, but Bradley/ Soriano will start to hit, Theriot will start to see that hitting HRs every ab isn’t successful. I’ts gonna happen, hopefully sooner than later. Once the Cubs get Soto and Dempster back, the arrow will start to point up. If Hendry could get a bat or two, this is a legit WS team.

It's not confidence or pessimism

I just see what I see.

what do you see?

players under performing?

On paper...

Means absolutely nothing. I see a bunch of overpaid players underperforming.

The way I see it, last year darn near everything went right (in the regular season). Every position player had good years (Lee, Soriano, Theriot), great years (Ramirez, DeRosa) and unbelieveable perhaps once a career year (Soto). Plus, the pitching was good (Marquis, Wood, Marshall), great (Lilly, Zambrano), and unbelieve career years (Harden, Dempster)

This year, for whatever reason, most players are playing below or well, well below their career norms (Harden, Soto, Bradley, Soriano)

This team is a .500 team, which to me is frustrating beyond words. It’s just so annoying because I want them to win so badly, that it ruins my days seeing this crap on the field.

This team is like a virus, you get sucked into them, and try as you might to not care about them, you know damn well you’ll be watching the next game hoping like heck that they win.

this team is a .500 team right now

but trust me, they are a much better team than what you think.

Seeing is believing

That’s pretty much all I’ll say.

you probably said that about the 07 team ....

but hey you do have a point

True

The ’07 was a surprise. The playoff collapse last season was a surprise too.

baseball is a game full of surprises

i just hope the Cubs have surprises in store

I hope you are right...

But nothing from this teams so far has shown me to think otherwise.

i think we as cubs fans were really spoiled by last year

I’m not saying i’m right …. far from that actually. Just be patient. Everything will start to fall in place.

I wouldn't say we were spoiled

Last season was just very exciting. This season? Not quite so exciting.
