3-1 to bonaficio. close call could have gone either way went there way to make it 3-1. foul ball now 3-2 and with two outs johnson will get head start if bonifacio hits one into the gap.
You put your reliever in there to throw strikes and get outs. If he can’t do it, give the ball to someone who can. The objective is to win ball games and not coddle players.
I had it set up as a preview, but I never clicked post for it. Then, a few minutes later, while scrolling down, the flag posted somehow. I was just scrolling, I never clicked “post” underneath the flag.
that is why it wouldn't shock me if he hit Aramis on purpose.
You can tell he does not fully understand the nuances off the game and what are the right and wrong situations to hit someone. D-Lee just took him deep he was frustrated and angry. Maybe he was thinking back to the Hanley being hit. Last night him and koyie hill had stare down after he acted like he won world series closing out a 3 run game.
My daughter is having her 17-yr birthday party. I waswatching on the TV in the downstairs guest room, and periodically running up the stairs to the computer in the second-floor study.
I don’t like swapping guys around in the middle of an inning like that. Baker is a competent fielder, he can handle it. Soriano loses what little focus he has.
I am sure that Lou knew his great numbers against the Marlins key guys, but it was shocking to the rest of us to see them displayed as they stepped up to the plate.
I’m gonna go figure out how to lower my blood pressure. o.0
First I was all YAY!
Then I was all uh-oh
Then I was all whew
Then I was all augh!
Then I was all YAY!
Then I was all AUGH!
Then I was all AUGH MOAR!
Then I was all YAY!
This has been the 2nd night in a row he couldn’t get to a grounder to his left. I’m concerned his range isn’t that great…unless you guys think Nick Johnson’s and John Baker’s grounders were well hit.
We don’t need to lose him again for any stretch of time!
Watching it on WGN, the trainers were holding his jersey just to get him pay attention to them, so I am inclined to think that it is heat related. He was doubled over at second, and wasn’t complaining about his elbow…
and I just about bashed my fist through the windshield. Reminds me of some of the more ledgy posters around here. Do they just let any idiot on the air?
If it is broken, he’ll need x-rays to determine the extent of the injury.
If it’s not, they are treating it now with ice and we will know more tomorrow.
As we talked about earlier in the post, nausea is sometimes a side effect when someone suffers a broken bone, even a fracture (I personally have had it happened twice.). That is why I am speculating on a broken bone.
My inner Hulk was about to come out after that whole affair. Didnt Aram get hit in the same general area in the past week. Cant recall the game. PS. I do think he felt ill as a result of the pain. Knees and elbows…
Pain can do that, specially when you've already been injured recently.
Everytime you add more to it your body as a whole gets closer to overloaded. The way he was sweating when he came out I was sure he was at least dizzy as Bob and Len thought. Trib reported he will play tomorrow…we will see about that, when your body stiffens after sleeping (and any pain killers wear off they may have given him) things may sure change. I’m just ecstatic so far it looks like he wasn’t hurt that much. I think they should keep him out of the starting line up and keep him as a PH just in case…That humidity will just exacerbate pain or stiffness he has.

bluekoolaide - August 1, 2009
i must say
i can be frustrated by Riot when he starts swinging for the fences, but he has improved his extra base hitting and sometimes, its a beautiful thing.
Ryanocm1 - August 1, 2009
it wouldve been a homer in wrigley :D
jesus christos - August 1, 2009

Ace Venom - August 1, 2009
true enough
easily a homer. assuming no wind or wind blowing out.
John T. Unger - August 1, 2009
i feel the same way
i hate his flyouts. but love his doubles. and triples.
John T. Unger - August 1, 2009
got to give Lou some credit for that, it has added a different dimension to his game....his extra base hits
used to be placed down the right field line, now he is pulling he ball when they give him that….it helps with the fielders “cheating” up the middle
Zakh - August 1, 2009
agree
batting avg is only down marginally, but although i dont have the number his slugging has to be up a bunch.
Ryanocm1 - August 1, 2009

wrigleyrocker12 - August 1, 2009
why hoff instead of fuld
hoff cant hit lefties. at all.
Ryanocm1 - August 1, 2009
no idea
they are probably bringing Fuld in for D anyway
shake n bake - August 1, 2009

wrigleyrocker12 - August 1, 2009

Jesus Christ
His stuff is good. He struck out the first two batters. Then the home run rattled him. Lou should have had that pen going after that.
Ace Venom - August 1, 2009
are you serious?
MandMexpress12 - August 1, 2009
Dead serious
You put your reliever in there to throw strikes and get outs. If he can’t do it, give the ball to someone who can. The objective is to win ball games and not coddle players.
Ace Venom - August 1, 2009
he was throwing strikes. and I do not think anyone left in pen had better arm.
MandMexpress12 - August 1, 2009
Why...
He’s your closer.
You expect him to get the out.
Devin B - August 1, 2009
Sparky Anderson would have yanked him too

slcathena - August 1, 2009
Blindfold Heilman
He’ll probably be better.
wrigleyrocker12 - August 1, 2009
The best part is
the Marlins announcers are TERRIFIED of him.
slcathena - August 1, 2009
aramis is hit. have to wonder if it was on purpose/frustration after hanley and what happened with nunez last night.
MandMexpress12 - August 1, 2009
I highly doubt it - not in this situation with the game on the line.
cdnsportnic - August 1, 2009

Milton bunts aramis to second. think he was trying to bunt for hit.
MandMexpress12 - August 1, 2009
if anything has been made clear this season
its that we cannot afford to lose Rami.
Nice bunt by Bradley.

i’d “accidentally” post it now for good luck….

this game has me delirious with laughter
12to23to17 - August 1, 2009
Somehow, I can't share in that.
When I realized the flag had posted, I went about as red as I have ever gone.
Vermont Cubs Fan - August 1, 2009
as long as you dont throw the ball in the stands w/ 2 outs, you'll never be one-upped on here

don't worry about it.
We know you didn’t mean for it to happen.

that will do it too

Zakh - August 1, 2009
You never know...
When I’ve broken bones, I’ve gotten lightheaded and nauseous from the pain and shock.
CubsBullsBears - August 1, 2009
True...
Which would be most likely if he didn’t just get hit in the elbow, but I just hope it’s nothing serious.
CubsBullsBears - August 1, 2009
Rammy just called for the trainer
Zakh - August 1, 2009
Aramis is done
Ace Venom - August 1, 2009

He looks dizzy or light headed.
slcathena - August 1, 2009

MandMexpress12 - August 1, 2009
He'll probably need an IV
Probably the heat getting to him.
Ace Venom - August 1, 2009
Another Cubbie occurence
bluekoolaide - August 1, 2009
oh man - it looks like he's about to pass out :(
cdnsportnic - August 1, 2009
this could be bad...
nausea often indicates a broken bone or other injury… I hope it is not a fracture.
Ross - August 1, 2009
That would be our luck
He can’t stay healthy this year.
Ace Venom - August 1, 2009
i hope its just the heat
jesus christos - August 1, 2009
Unfortunately...
I’d agree with this.
CubsBullsBears - August 1, 2009
Nausea
also often indicates being strung out from the heat. Which, if you haven’t been playing much this season, is a real possibility.
Not Bruce Froemming - August 1, 2009
Hopefully it's nothing too serious.

well this will be creative
can Marshall play 3b??!?!?
Chanman25 - August 1, 2009
duh...it is Sean Marshall....of course he can!
Zakh - August 1, 2009
At least it doesn't seem to be his elbow
bluekoolaide - August 1, 2009
It looked more like exhaustion to me
Getting hit in the elbow couldn’t have helped him.
Ace Venom - August 1, 2009
I hope he's okay.
sue369 - August 1, 2009
My guess
Baker to third, Sori to second, Fuld to left.
wrigleyrocker12 - August 1, 2009
yup.
MandMexpress12 - August 1, 2009
Baker will play 3b, Soriano to 2nd
No other option
Ross - August 1, 2009
And Fuld in to play LF.
cubfred - August 1, 2009
you would hope
its unrelated to the elbow, but it would be mighty coincidental

Let’s try to be positive here.
Ace Venom - August 1, 2009
Nunez is a jack ass.
Jimmyeatworld - August 1, 2009
that is why it wouldn't shock me if he hit Aramis on purpose.
MandMexpress12 - August 1, 2009

Too cute by half on the Soriano swaps
I don’t like swapping guys around in the middle of an inning like that. Baker is a competent fielder, he can handle it. Soriano loses what little focus he has.
Nibbles - August 1, 2009
Hmm...Lou swapped him with a left hander at bat.
Has Baker played 2nd base before? Seemed like a move to get a better defender at 2nd where a screamer could be hit.
Sandberg's evil twin - August 1, 2009
Per Trib Lou was moving Baker to handle a righty or lefty.
I guess Baker must have played 2nd in the minors, cause otherwise you have to think Fonzie would be better there.
Sandberg's evil twin - August 2, 2009
The best part about tonight's win is:
Only one more game in Florida this year!!!!!! And it’s tomorrow!!!!!
Vermont Cubs Fan - August 1, 2009

Which will be after nine innings tomorrow.

AzCubfan24 - August 1, 2009
I know how you feel.
We don’t need to lose him again for any stretch of time!
Watching it on WGN, the trainers were holding his jersey just to get him pay attention to them, so I am inclined to think that it is heat related. He was doubled over at second, and wasn’t complaining about his elbow…
LeSaboteur - August 1, 2009

louslovechild - August 1, 2009
My guess - we'll know more tomorrow
If it is broken, he’ll need x-rays to determine the extent of the injury.
If it’s not, they are treating it now with ice and we will know more tomorrow.
Ross - August 1, 2009
Unless he left the game due to something else.
Which is what it appeared to be.
TCobb1911 - August 1, 2009
Yeah, I'm...
…inclined to believe that it was something else based on what I saw on the field.
LeSaboteur - August 1, 2009
I'm not trying to just sugar coat it.
But I really think it was something heat related. I would think they would have at least looked at his arm. He was pointing at his head.
TCobb1911 - August 1, 2009
I hope so...
But like it was mentioned before, often times when you break a bone, you can get dizzy and nauseous from it. Hopefully this is not the case.
CubsBullsBears - August 1, 2009
Yah
He looked pretty goofy when the trainer was talking to him. I expected to see the “finger count” next, but they just hoisted him out of there.
vonde6 - August 1, 2009
My total speculation is just one option...
As we talked about earlier in the post, nausea is sometimes a side effect when someone suffers a broken bone, even a fracture (I personally have had it happened twice.). That is why I am speculating on a broken bone.
Ross - August 1, 2009
hoepfully you are wrong! :)
AzCubfan24 - August 1, 2009
Or the possibility that
nausea set in and its not broken. I’ve been hit by 85 on the elbow, no break, and wanted to hurl. Just hope for the best I guess.
TCobb1911 - August 1, 2009
But did it actually...
…hit ’im in the elbow? The replay looked like it hit just north of the elbow.
LeSaboteur - August 1, 2009
yeah I was wondering that too, I never got a good look at it.
AzCubfan24 - August 1, 2009
It's definitely possible.
I’m still guessing something heat related based on what I saw on the field. We’ll just have to wait and see.
LeSaboteur - August 1, 2009
We're in agreement.
LeSaboteur - August 1, 2009
ARam didnt look himself after the 2nd
three straight Ks is very strange for him, wouldn’t be surprised if the heat was getting to him and eventually knocked him out in the 10th

Smardardzja is a pile of crap and belongs in Iowa.
Bring back Atkins in his place.

By the way, Trib said Z did have stiffness from sleeping in a bad position.
Sure reminded me of when he had stiffness before. I just hope it works itself out before his next start…he said he would so we will see.
