I didn't watch but I don't think I can believe him as both genuine and sane
when he cries in a postgame conference about people criticizing Tony Romo, after he bashed Jeff Garcia and Donovan McNabb in both of his previous stops.
management and fans regardless of race, color or crede. He does tend to focus on Soriano, Bradley Geo and Dome but he also hates Gregg, Fonty, Dempster etc.
but two out and runner on first and no particularly good hitter on the bench kind of limits your options but he did pick the worst one he could but lets not act like he hit to a DP with bases loaded and one out.
I actually have a friend who's a huge Cardinal fan...
…who told me last January how bummed he was about losing Miles and how he was his favorite player last year. Now I seriously wonder if he was messing with me and, if so…well played sir-I almost bought in.
on here went ot school with a guy that looks like Gregg and his name was Ben and she and her friends called him Stinky Ben and we all thought it fit Gregg so we started calling him that.
Look. I realize that there are some guys you can’t take out of the lineup, but it’s not like Ramirez is a future Hall of Famer. Lou wanted Ibanez and they got Bradley instead. Bradley’s done a lot to help this team, but not what they signed him for.
not afford to miss the opportunity to pick up a game on the cards, especially a game they should’ve won easily. and they have two more with the phillies. i fully expect a sweep.
I honestly don’t care for Carlos Marmol for that reason. He’ll walk the guys and Gregg will give up the home runs. What a horrible pen you’ve constructed, Hendry.
They were not scoring. You don’t beat up on a player who is doing something you know he is really bad at ( pitching more than one inning was a big issue in Florida last year) .
at least marmol has upside. he’s still virtually unhittable his just needs better command. gregg can get beat even on his good nights. he’s just not very good.
is that I told my kid he could watch the game literally seconds before Harden gave up the walk and then the HR. But if Marmol could have walked one less guy, we win this game.
is that my son, who will born sometime during the NLDS, will become a Cubs fan in four or five years and get called a bandwaggoner because they have won two World Series’
When he used the ENTIRE bench in TIE road game that went extras in April of 08 To me this was the managing equivalent of Cedeno overunning on a walk. After that I realized just how bad he was at using the bullpen ( Eyre pitched pretty good tonight for a guy Lou thought was useless), the bench and ruled by cranky anger rather then trying to both kick as AND inspire players.
all pissy and whiny at the podium, pounding his fist and yelling “I wanna win, and I wanna win NOW!” If Lou’s not careful his credibility will disappear below the Mendoza Line.
Sox rookie pitcher nailed Miggy in the hand and Cabrera had to come out of the game. Bottom of the 2nd, Porcello drills Youkilis and he charges the mound, tossing his helmet at (and missing) Porcello.
I feel like “what did I do” for the last 4 hours. I can go to the gym, run errands, hang out with my roommates. I’m starting to feel like im wasting my nights.
Seriously, if these guys are going to win it this year, then THESE GUYS are going to win it this year. It has to be Marmol and Gregg, because these are the guys who can do it at all. If they have lost it, then the team is in deep doo doo.
This is definitely a low point. They need to start climbing from here, because they can’t afford to fall too far off the pace. At least the part of the season is over where we could count on everyone in front of them losing, because you can’t stay in the race like that and hope to do anything in the post-season.
It’s inexplicable that so many people with decent track records would combine to be so subpar.
I don’t think the game has passed Lou by. Changing managers isn’t going to help. It never does.
I don’t believe in curses, but as BigJohnAZ said, it’s tough to keep looking at what happens to this franchise and not put any credence into that at all. Makes no sense, but then again, nothing else does, either.
Hang in there, folks. Always darkest before the dawn. It’s not like they’re 10 games below .500 or anything.
against the Mets, and a slew against the Brewers, and at least three more vs. the Reds, three against the Padres, three more vs. the Astros …
Yes, there are plenty more chances. But for me, this might be the toughest loss of the year, because it’s definitely one the Cubs should have won. Had to win, almost.
I’m too old to cry, but it hurts too much to laugh.
The kids have brought some enthusiam to the park. Mat Latos — a starter up from AA looks pretty damn good. I’m ready for the usual ambush at Petco Park, sad to say.
I still remember the Cubs sweeping the Pads at Qualcomm in ’03. Prior pitched the series opener and looked unreal, just coming off the DL. Ah, memories …
I can’t begin to describe how much bad luck we’ve had this year.
And the fact is, once we get out of this series against Philadelphia, our schedule becomes much easier. Let’s worry about winning the games here against the Phillies before we focus on Pittsburgh.
They certainly have had next to no luck this year. The baseball gods certainly have not been kind to them this year either. That makes the stretches of crappy play even more crappy if that is possible.
it is Karma. We had some amazing/lucky games last year. We also were relatively injury free in 07 and 08. In the back of my mind, I felt this might be one of those years where there was a ton of adversity.
I’m sure you never read these boards before you write a re-cap. But on the off chance that you do please take my advise here. Don’t sugar coat this game.
Destroy this team. Call out Marmol, Miles, and Lou Pinella.
There is no reason keep a positive tone anymore. This collection of player deserves to be drug accross the coals.
How do let Marmol in when he clearly can’t find the plate and Grabow is warmed up. That was a HUGE mistake and one he has done over and over this year. For a guy who claims to hate pitchers who walk people I have no idea why he gives Marmol such leeway.
triple A is the best option for marmol at this point, he cant throw strikes, and the Rsox are going to release smoltz, I say lets give him a try, he is a national league pitcher
Extra Innings treated us to Cubs Post game live! Just in time for Lou’s hissy fit! Great stuff! Wonder who asked him the question — “Frustrated with your bullpen?”
“So why don’t you sit down here and manage this team???” Nice stuff, Lou — way to melt down!
he’s gotten thrown out of a game and blown up at a reporter in the last three days. I think people are underestimating how much this stuff is eating at him.
Fire is not blaming he media in a press conference
It is pulling a player out of game when he does not run out a grounder or having a little extra batting practice and not looking like he is asleep through most of the game.
Tom Kelly and Cito Gaston looked like they were dead in the dugout. How many World Series did those guys win?
Too many Chicago fans expect all the coaches to act like Mike Ditka. In other words, like an idiot. I don’t care how they act. I care about results.
Aside from the well-publicized incident between Andruw Jones and Bobby Cox, I can’t remember too many times managers have done what you suggest, Jessica.
It is not that rare but even if you don't pull someone right out of the game
You can pull them out of the lineup for a few days.
One of the BEST things Lou ever did was pull Z out of the game when Z chewed out Todd Waker in the middle of a game for screwing up a DP.
Guzman needs to take over in the 8th right now instead of Marmol. Use Marmol in the 7th or other lower pressure situations until he starts throwing strikes consistently.
NOTE 2 – Neal Cotts, Mike Fontenot, Tom Gorzelanny, Carlos Marmol, Sean Marshall, and Ryan Theriot must clear Optional Assignment Waivers before they can be optioned to the minors
I doubt if the Cubs have ever done so. He’s still early enough in his career that this can happen. The other idea, as you said (I think Brenly hinted at this) is to use him in less-pressurized situations.

DC Cubbie - August 11, 2009
Sphincter-itis
The team’s collective butthole puckers at the sight of adversity. Without ARam, there’s been a lot of stupid at-bats and playing not to lose.
CaliCub - August 11, 2009
Which falls on the freaking general manager
Look. I realize that there are some guys you can’t take out of the lineup, but it’s not like Ramirez is a future Hall of Famer. Lou wanted Ibanez and they got Bradley instead. Bradley’s done a lot to help this team, but not what they signed him for.
Ace Venom - August 11, 2009
I'm not sure you can blame the manager for stupid at-bats...
digitalbenjamin - August 11, 2009
General manager
That means Jim Hendry. I can blame the guy for his drunken offseason.

Three God damn hits!
BrewCrew'sPrinceofDarkness - August 11, 2009

not even many walks.
just efficiency vs. the cubs, the most inefficient team in the league.
buckmulligan - August 11, 2009
except for the one innning where they got 3 walks and a hit batter
thanks Carlos
Illicat - August 11, 2009
getting a run without getting a hit is pretty efficient.
giving up a run without giving up a hit is pretty inefficient.
buckmulligan - August 11, 2009
Marmol
put that many on.
Not. Good.
chitownhawkeye - August 11, 2009

BrewCrew'sPrinceofDarkness - August 11, 2009

The Cards are finding ways to win and never quitting while the Cubs are finding ways to lose and rolling over. It’s pretty simple right now.

LAcarl519 - August 11, 2009

DC Cubbie - August 11, 2009
this game starts with marmol .... you just can't walk 3 guys everytime you go out there
lexmarklover - August 11, 2009
it has been our bullpen MO for the past 2 years
why should they change now?
VegasCubFan - August 11, 2009
Bingo
I honestly don’t care for Carlos Marmol for that reason. He’ll walk the guys and Gregg will give up the home runs. What a horrible pen you’ve constructed, Hendry.
Ace Venom - August 11, 2009
how often do we get to see a first pitch strike
by anyone in the bullpen? Very rarely.
VegasCubFan - August 11, 2009
agreed.
but this game is on the offense.
buckmulligan - August 11, 2009
This is what we've come to
Praying the Reds hold on so we can stay 3 games back.
Worf - August 11, 2009
We have doing that for a while
Doggie Stalker - August 11, 2009
Gregg is a CLOSER
and he always has had problems going more than an inning.
Doggie Stalker - August 11, 2009
Phew

CubsFan87 - August 11, 2009

lexmarklover - August 11, 2009
Jesus Holliday just struck out looking

so there’s that.
Of course the Cubs held the Phils to 3 hits and couldn’t pick up any ground so it all comes back to that
Gibbon Jockey - August 11, 2009
I have been swearing a great deal tonight.
I just want to say sorry. I’ve been drinking and if I offended anyone I do apologize.

BrewCrew'sPrinceofDarkness - August 11, 2009

Worf - August 11, 2009
No more Gregg.
We should package him off to, well, somewhere.
Maybe Korea. Miles, too.
LeSaboteur - August 11, 2009
Gregg is not the problem
Marmol is.
ambrosiadreams - August 11, 2009
Gregg not the problem?
Umm….you mean Captain Homerun?
VegasCubFan - August 11, 2009
Greg = 1ER 2IP
Marmol = 1ER 1IP
digitalbenjamin - August 11, 2009
He's also a closer
and was forced to throw 2 innings tonight. Point is, that game doesn’t go into extras if Marmol could throw a strike.
ambrosiadreams - August 11, 2009
and we don't lose, if Gregg doesn't serve up yet another tater
Illicat - August 11, 2009
And we don't win either
They were not scoring. You don’t beat up on a player who is doing something you know he is really bad at ( pitching more than one inning was a big issue in Florida last year) .
Doggie Stalker - August 11, 2009
you also don't excuse him because he's really bad at it.
This is a pretty pointless argument. I’m not saying the loss was Gregg’s fault, but he played a significant part in it. You really can’t deny that
Illicat - August 11, 2009
well, I would like a huge paycheck
and only have to work for 10 minutes or so (and be crappy for the next 10)
VegasCubFan - August 11, 2009
Maybe it does
the game was 2-2 when Marmol came in. The Phillies wouldn’t have brought in Lidge in a 2-2 game in the ninth.
Not Bruce Froemming - August 11, 2009
no kidding
Drew tell us how good he and Soriano are ?
Doggie Stalker - August 11, 2009
hey
watch your mouth.
Marmol owns this loss. I doubt he doesn’t know that.
drewishdrewid - August 11, 2009
I also wish Lou
would stop throwing him out there every night in the 8th. It’s just not working right now.
ambrosiadreams - August 11, 2009
I agree
I was going to say “something has to be done” but it’s not up to us. Couldn’t they put Marmol on the DL to get him some rehab time?
drewishdrewid - August 11, 2009
i guess, but who would pitch the 7th? heilman?
jesus christos - August 11, 2009
I don't know.
Heilman’s not consistent enough.
Grabow? Or maybe Marshall?
drewishdrewid - August 11, 2009
Grabow
Guzman. Marshall. Any of the 3, really
ambrosiadreams - August 11, 2009

jesus christos - August 11, 2009
Rehab for what, drew?
Is he hurt? If he isn’t, what does he need rehab time for?
Not Bruce Froemming - August 11, 2009
um, gregg is a mountain of suck.
at least marmol has upside. he’s still virtually unhittable his just needs better command. gregg can get beat even on his good nights. he’s just not very good.
buckmulligan - August 11, 2009
Lack of clutch hitting and Marmol are the main reasons we lost tonight...
not Gregg
digitalbenjamin - August 11, 2009
Greg
LeSaboteur - August 11, 2009
Gregg
is a perpetual problem; he gives up HRs in big moments.
LeSaboteur - August 11, 2009
He's the CLOSER
He only plays in big moments.
Mike Martin - August 12, 2009
Gregg gave up YET ANOTHER homerun
he might not be the goat, but he certainly contributed to the loss in a big way
Illicat - August 11, 2009
tough loss
no way to package it.
drewishdrewid - August 11, 2009
Good on you, drew
I was afraid you were going to come here with some platitude…
Worf - August 11, 2009
what hurts the most
is that I told my kid he could watch the game literally seconds before Harden gave up the walk and then the HR. But if Marmol could have walked one less guy, we win this game.
drewishdrewid - August 11, 2009
so its all your fault :P
jesus christos - August 11, 2009
no
it’s the guy who came onto the board and said “Is Harden still throwing a perfect game” seconds before the walk and HR. :D
drewishdrewid - August 11, 2009
he was a cards fan, too...
jesus christos - August 11, 2009

Wow
You want a cookie? I don’t have any, but I do have beer.
Ace Venom - August 11, 2009
Didn't mean that in a harsh way
Just being serious there. I cut Lou slack last season until everything blew up in the playoffs.
Ace Venom - August 11, 2009
Told this a lot but I lost it on Lou
When he used the ENTIRE bench in TIE road game that went extras in April of 08 To me this was the managing equivalent of Cedeno overunning on a walk. After that I realized just how bad he was at using the bullpen ( Eyre pitched pretty good tonight for a guy Lou thought was useless), the bench and ruled by cranky anger rather then trying to both kick as AND inspire players.
Doggie Stalker - August 11, 2009
not nice

Ace Venom - August 11, 2009
nope
feux rec’d
digitalbenjamin - August 11, 2009
He's turning into Matt Millen
all pissy and whiny at the podium, pounding his fist and yelling “I wanna win, and I wanna win NOW!” If Lou’s not careful his credibility will disappear below the Mendoza Line.
CaliCub - August 11, 2009
When does the clubhouse just throw their hands in the air
and say, “Fuck It. Let’s Just play.”
There has to come a time where the players just get sick and tired of hanging on every single pitch and just want to play.
Gibbon Jockey - August 11, 2009

this team has not fire.
VegasCubFan - August 11, 2009
that's NO fire
VegasCubFan - August 11, 2009
but what I'm saying isn't about fire
it’s about just tossing away the pressure. I mean, just relax and stop worrying about it all.
Gibbon Jockey - August 11, 2009

Lous get mad tonight a the players when it:
He pulls Harden (who is pitching well ) at 87 pitches.
Lets Marmol stay in to face Utley, Howard with Grabrow warm in the pen.
Pitch hit’s Miles.
Lets Dome face a Lefty with Hill on the bench.
Pitches Gregg for two innings after recovering from a dead arm.

But if you had ever read a bible/learned to read you would understand that. I’m am done talking to you.
BrewCrew'sPrinceofDarkness - August 11, 2009
should have picked something simple like “intelligence” then

LeSaboteur - August 11, 2009
It was a good pitch
and it sneaked into the basket. Bradley hit the hell out of the ball just before that and it fell 2 feet short of the basket.
No luck. No breaks.
Not Bruce Froemming - August 11, 2009
lou .... learn to use your bullpen and everything will be fine
lexmarklover - August 11, 2009
Let's rethink everything...or not
Seriously, if these guys are going to win it this year, then THESE GUYS are going to win it this year. It has to be Marmol and Gregg, because these are the guys who can do it at all. If they have lost it, then the team is in deep doo doo.
This is definitely a low point. They need to start climbing from here, because they can’t afford to fall too far off the pace. At least the part of the season is over where we could count on everyone in front of them losing, because you can’t stay in the race like that and hope to do anything in the post-season.
vonde6 - August 11, 2009
I don't know what to say, really
It’s inexplicable that so many people with decent track records would combine to be so subpar.
I don’t think the game has passed Lou by. Changing managers isn’t going to help. It never does.
I don’t believe in curses, but as BigJohnAZ said, it’s tough to keep looking at what happens to this franchise and not put any credence into that at all. Makes no sense, but then again, nothing else does, either.
Hang in there, folks. Always darkest before the dawn. It’s not like they’re 10 games below .500 or anything.
Not Bruce Froemming - August 11, 2009
very well said, NBF
we are 3 games back. and we do have 10 games against Pittsburgh in our future..
ambrosiadreams - August 11, 2009
And the entire season series
against the Mets, and a slew against the Brewers, and at least three more vs. the Reds, three against the Padres, three more vs. the Astros …
Yes, there are plenty more chances. But for me, this might be the toughest loss of the year, because it’s definitely one the Cubs should have won. Had to win, almost.
I’m too old to cry, but it hurts too much to laugh.
Not Bruce Froemming - August 11, 2009
The Pads are no longer pitiful
The kids have brought some enthusiam to the park. Mat Latos — a starter up from AA looks pretty damn good. I’m ready for the usual ambush at Petco Park, sad to say.
San Diego Smooth Jazz Man - August 11, 2009
Yeah, they've gotten better
I still remember the Cubs sweeping the Pads at Qualcomm in ’03. Prior pitched the series opener and looked unreal, just coming off the DL. Ah, memories …
Not Bruce Froemming - August 11, 2009

lexmarklover - August 11, 2009
After the 7th inning
we kind of are. Your mind is not broke…this team is.
It makes me crazy sometimes too.
BrewCrew'sPrinceofDarkness - August 11, 2009
Agreed.
I can’t begin to describe how much bad luck we’ve had this year.
And the fact is, once we get out of this series against Philadelphia, our schedule becomes much easier. Let’s worry about winning the games here against the Phillies before we focus on Pittsburgh.
Vermont Cubs Fan - August 11, 2009
In addition
They certainly have had next to no luck this year. The baseball gods certainly have not been kind to them this year either. That makes the stretches of crappy play even more crappy if that is possible.
TheRiot Police - August 11, 2009
All those diving catches by opponents, all those drives that seem to be hit right at the other teams' players.
Vermont Cubs Fan - August 11, 2009
I can't remember another season
that’s had so many diving catches, so many great defensive plays by opponents.
First inning tonight, another example. Fox (I think) laced the ball to third base, but the third baseman made a nice grab. Saved a run.
If this team gets into the postseason, it might just be the most well-earned postseason berth for anybody in recent memory.
Not Bruce Froemming - August 11, 2009
don't think you need to worry about post-season
Clutche - August 11, 2009
The bottom line is
they’re three games out with 49 to go. You cannot pull the plug on that, even though I know it’s Cubs fans’ tradition to do so.
Not Bruce Froemming - August 11, 2009
and, the bottom line is
we are only 1 game back in the loss column. 1 game with 49 remaining.
ambrosiadreams - August 11, 2009

Clutche - August 11, 2009

i’m simply stating the facts. And the fact is, the division is still right there in our sights.
ambrosiadreams - August 11, 2009
the fact is they're plagued with injuries and playing like shit....
they’ll trail by 6 at season’s end
Clutche - August 11, 2009
You don't know that
and I don’t know if they’ll win the division.
Why not see what happens instead of making a sweeping declaration?
If you’re going to say this now, then if they win 4-5 in a row, you must say they’re going to win the division. See how silly this all is?
Not Bruce Froemming - August 11, 2009
nope......
I don’t care if they win 10 in a row they’re not making the playoffs. Just my opinion, and I’d bet on it.

drewishdrewid - August 12, 2009
I guess maybe
it is Karma. We had some amazing/lucky games last year. We also were relatively injury free in 07 and 08. In the back of my mind, I felt this might be one of those years where there was a ton of adversity.
TheRiot Police - August 11, 2009
True, that
The Cubs got a lot of breaks the last year and a half. Now, perhaps they’re paying the tab.
Not Bruce Froemming - August 11, 2009
no they were in the top 5 in runs scored, TBA, and ERA......
that ain’t luck
Clutche - August 11, 2009
They were good and lucky
this year, with basically the same cast of characters, they’re not as good and not nearly as lucky.
Not Bruce Froemming - August 11, 2009
they put constant pressure on teams last year and that.....
creates opponent errors which are perceived as luck. You create your own breaks so to speak.
Clutche - August 11, 2009
Bradley
made some damn find catches last night.
drewishdrewid - August 12, 2009
DEAR AL,
I’m sure you never read these boards before you write a re-cap. But on the off chance that you do please take my advise here. Don’t sugar coat this game.
Destroy this team. Call out Marmol, Miles, and Lou Pinella.
There is no reason keep a positive tone anymore. This collection of player deserves to be drug accross the coals.
Please do so tomorrow.
BrewCrew'sPrinceofDarkness - August 11, 2009

but really? he had one at bat tonight…
ambrosiadreams - August 11, 2009

lexmarklover - August 11, 2009
I don't think Al sugarcoats anything
Marmol deserves to be called out. Piniella doesn’t.
Miles? Of all the guys who have fallen off their career averages, he might be the worst.
Not Bruce Froemming - August 11, 2009
What exactly was Miles' career average before this year?
Vermont Cubs Fan - August 11, 2009
Career average of .283 (including this year)
Never hit lower than .263 in six seasons. When you look at that, you can see why Hendry signed him.
Not Bruce Froemming - August 11, 2009
also, remember last year?
he hit the game winning grand slam against us. it’s hard to imagine he’s the same player
ambrosiadreams - August 11, 2009
Lou DOES deserve to be called out
How do let Marmol in when he clearly can’t find the plate and Grabow is warmed up. That was a HUGE mistake and one he has done over and over this year. For a guy who claims to hate pitchers who walk people I have no idea why he gives Marmol such leeway.
Doggie Stalker - August 11, 2009
Yes he does.
sue369 - August 12, 2009
I think you flipped the Names of Piniella and Marmol

spursfan87 - August 11, 2009
sigh
is this a joke?
ambrosiadreams - August 11, 2009
triple A is the best option for marmol at this point, he cant throw strikes, and the Rsox are going to release smoltz, I say lets give him a try, he is a national league pitcher
spursfan87 - August 11, 2009
and let me clarify
I wasn’t being snide. I meant it’s sad what our bullpen situation has become. Last year, Marmol was automatic.
ambrosiadreams - August 11, 2009
Out here in the hinterlands
Extra Innings treated us to Cubs Post game live! Just in time for Lou’s hissy fit! Great stuff! Wonder who asked him the question — “Frustrated with your bullpen?”
“So why don’t you sit down here and manage this team???” Nice stuff, Lou — way to melt down!
San Diego Smooth Jazz Man - August 11, 2009
The thing is, SDSJM,
everybody in the Chicago media has been crapping on Lou for not showing sufficient “fire.” Whatever that is.
Tonight he did, and now he’s getting roasted for it.
Can’t win.
Not Bruce Froemming - August 11, 2009
being in the spotlight of the chicago media is a double edged sword
jesus christos - August 11, 2009
Well, that was more of a stupid comment
toward a reporter than ‘fire.’ It’s his job to talk to the press. I hear what you’re saying, though.
San Diego Smooth Jazz Man - August 11, 2009
Yeah, granted, but
he’s gotten thrown out of a game and blown up at a reporter in the last three days. I think people are underestimating how much this stuff is eating at him.
Not Bruce Froemming - August 11, 2009
Fire is not blaming he media in a press conference
It is pulling a player out of game when he does not run out a grounder or having a little extra batting practice and not looking like he is asleep through most of the game.
Doggie Stalker - August 11, 2009
I don't care how he looks during the game
Tom Kelly and Cito Gaston looked like they were dead in the dugout. How many World Series did those guys win?
Too many Chicago fans expect all the coaches to act like Mike Ditka. In other words, like an idiot. I don’t care how they act. I care about results.
Aside from the well-publicized incident between Andruw Jones and Bobby Cox, I can’t remember too many times managers have done what you suggest, Jessica.
Not Bruce Froemming - August 11, 2009
I think Tom Kelly slept during games.
San Diego Smooth Jazz Man - August 11, 2009
It is not that rare but even if you don't pull someone right out of the game
You can pull them out of the lineup for a few days.
One of the BEST things Lou ever did was pull Z out of the game when Z chewed out Todd Waker in the middle of a game for screwing up a DP.
Doggie Stalker - August 11, 2009
I think that was Dusty in Houston
Right? I think I was at that game, actually.
Perhaps that’s already been done a few times, but we don’t know about it.

AAA really isn't a bad idea for Marmol
He has to get his shit together, and it’s not happening for him. Wake-up calls are necessary sometimes.
San Diego Smooth Jazz Man - August 11, 2009
I agree wholeheartedly.
ambrosiadreams - August 11, 2009
I'm starting to think it isn't a bad idea
From now until Sept. 1. Why not?
Not Bruce Froemming - August 11, 2009
But he can't be optioned to the minors
Guzman needs to take over in the 8th right now instead of Marmol. Use Marmol in the 7th or other lower pressure situations until he starts throwing strikes consistently.
Spotacus - August 11, 2009
Is he out of options?
First I’ve heard of that.
Not Bruce Froemming - August 11, 2009
im pretty sure hes out of options
jesus christos - August 11, 2009
From Cub Reporter
NOTE 2 – Neal Cotts, Mike Fontenot, Tom Gorzelanny, Carlos Marmol, Sean Marshall, and Ryan Theriot must clear Optional Assignment Waivers before they can be optioned to the minors
http://www.thecubreporter.com/cubs-40-man-roster
Spotacus - August 12, 2009
Or just trade him in the offseason
The bullpen is in need of almost total reconstruction.
Ace Venom - August 11, 2009
or for heilman, for that matter
i said so weeks ago.
brian custer - August 11, 2009
Why can't he be sent down?
I doubt if the Cubs have ever done so. He’s still early enough in his career that this can happen. The other idea, as you said (I think Brenly hinted at this) is to use him in less-pressurized situations.
San Diego Smooth Jazz Man - August 11, 2009
needs to clear waivers
jesus christos - August 11, 2009
Well he could develop one of those useful injuries like Patton, Miles etc.
I would say instead of tired arm or groin injury he can get the new " I can’t find the plate" arm injury/
Doggie Stalker - August 11, 2009
Really??????
San Diego Smooth Jazz Man - August 11, 2009
I find it hard to believe the Cubs have used up
all of Marmol’s minor-league options. But, of course I don’t have any facts to support my position.
That hasn’t stopped many on this site before!!
San Diego Smooth Jazz Man - August 11, 2009
