Talk about overhyped. When the quarterback’s biggest problem is throwing the ball, that’s an issue. Do wide receivers who can’t catch get hailed as superstars?
Do you think if Vick committed manslaughter, and had served a prison term and paid his debt to society, people would be as harsh on him as they are now?
I think some people are more affected by cruelty to animals than they are by cruelty to humans. Not in any way, shape or form justifying or excusing what Vick did, which was reprehensible.
Stallworth killed someone — presumably someone with a family, someone who was loved by them and his friends, etc. But I don’t hear the same level of outrage about him as I do about Vick, and I find that oddly disturbing.
Donte Stallworth did indeed make a mistake. A fatal one (and I think his sentence was too light) It was a drunken mistake.
Every day Michael Vick woke up thinking how he was going to improve his kennels, weed out the weaker stock, clean out the rape stand, etc… he was breaking the law in a heinous, willful fashion.
but as much as I understand the helplessness of animals — whether in the wild or as pets — I can’t put them on an equal footing with human beings. Just can’t do it.
My wife and I rescued a Jack Russell. When she came to us, she had cigarette burns on her forehead. She’s still with us and is a playful dog. (Out of our six, she’s my baby)
When we tell people that story, it never fails to get a cringe, or some other reaction.
I sometimes wonder what the reaction would be if we counseled battered wives and they had the same injuries. I think there is still a “Well, why didn’t she leave?” reaction out there.
and to act as though Donte’s incident was mistake is wrong. He got drunk and got in a car when he has more then enough money to call cab. He is guilty of murder in my opinion, though I realize there is a difference legally.
The NFL and societies treatment of Michael Vick is a joke IMO
I know there are some dog lovers here, and I respect that. What Vick did was horrible, deserved jail time, and deserved ridicule.
What Lenord Little, Donte Stallworth, and even Plexico Burriss did was worse. Two of them took human lives, the other severely endangered hundreds of them. They will all be back in the NFL will less penalty than Vick, who served his time. Then the NFL tells him to miss 6 games, while Stallworth misses 4? Something is wrong there.
Even in comparison to those other guys, whatever the legal system is messed up.
What the NFL is doing to Vick AFTER Stallworth’s suspension is bull. Its a move that the commissioner is doing so that PETA won’t be so harsh on his league. Its a Bud Selig move, and the NFL should be above that.
When there is spectator interference with any thrown or batted ball, the ball shall be dead at the moment of interference and the umpire shall impose such penalties as in his opinion will nullify the act of interference.
APPROVED RULING: If spectator interference clearly prevents a fielder from catching a fly ball, the umpire shall declare the batter out.
They pulled the wrong guy out… the kid that threw the beer was like 3 seats to the left, white shirt, sunglasses on shirt… he threw it all non-chalauntly, and then it looked like he was trying to say “it was me” while they were pulling the wrong kid out
I don't understand where this subculture came from
I’ve been a Cubs fan for 40 years, and I don’t remember it being quite like this.
That’s not to say I want to return to the days of Barry Foote, Manny Trillo and bottom-division finishes. But you can be a winner (or aspire to be) and at least be human and act like you know a little baseball.
and I think Cubs fans took it lying down for far too long. Expectations should be high every year.
But now it’s like just the opposite is taking place. A lot of fans aren’t allowing for the normal vagaries of a baseball season and are hitting the ceiling about everything and anything.
Do I want the Cubs to win? Damn right I do. But I’m a baseball fan, too, and I can appreciate good play by the other team. And that your team won’t be 100 percent every night.

i forget the indians series b/c i wasn’t able to watch any of it… i was in Indy while my godmother had surgery and my best friend had her bridal shower.
we might get a legit outfielder………until then it’s the same shit that’s out there tonight……..it’s a shame when Milton Bradlety isthe best player in our OF
Team looks flat right now… very sad. 4 back mid-August isn’t too bad though. Only problem is I’m afraid this team is showing who they really are right now, and if we do make the playoffs I don’t think I’m going to be able to deal with them playing like this… gotta turn it around.
and I wouldn’t count us out if we made it. I’m just saying I would already feel pretty satisfied at this point if we turned this around and made it there after all of the hardships of this season.
for one of the veterans on team (D. Lee maybe) to have a players only meeting and tell everybody (not point fingers or blame) that they (as a team) need to step it up and play better ball. Something a little motivational to try to get this team to focus on playing better and making the playoffs. I don’t know if will help any but it certainly wouldn’t hurt.
if someone in April told you that in August we would have Tom gorzellany, randy Wells, and Jeff Spellcheck in our rotation along with Jake Fox at 3B where would you have thought this team would be in the standings?
But this is what I mean about Cubs fans. Go on a downspurt like this and fans are like “Here comes last place.” Hell, the Red Sox lost six in a row. Were their fans doing that? Maybe, but …

There was a sizable split in the Falcons’ fan base regarding Vick going to prison.
“He’s evil!” vs. “It’s just some damn dogs.” No middle ground.
Didn’t want to hear it then, don’t want to hear it now.
Clutch16 - August 12, 2009
Serious question
Do you think if Vick committed manslaughter, and had served a prison term and paid his debt to society, people would be as harsh on him as they are now?
I think some people are more affected by cruelty to animals than they are by cruelty to humans. Not in any way, shape or form justifying or excusing what Vick did, which was reprehensible.
Not Bruce Froemming - August 12, 2009
Depends on the manslaughter.
If it was accidental, but avoidable, then yes he gets the benefit of the doubt. If it was intentional, but they couldn’t get murder one, then no.
WanderingWanderer - August 12, 2009
Stallworth has had less backlash
and he did commit vehicular manslaughter, serve a prison sentence… and has much less of the crap.
Allie - August 12, 2009
Stallworth didn't see the guy crossing the street, gun his engine, and place a bet on whether or
not he could hit the guy.
WanderingWanderer - August 12, 2009
That's what I mean
Stallworth killed someone — presumably someone with a family, someone who was loved by them and his friends, etc. But I don’t hear the same level of outrage about him as I do about Vick, and I find that oddly disturbing.

The charges wouldn’t be for manslaughter.
Clutch16 - August 12, 2009

Animals and kids
Another way to look at it is this.
Donte Stallworth did indeed make a mistake. A fatal one (and I think his sentence was too light) It was a drunken mistake.
Every day Michael Vick woke up thinking how he was going to improve his kennels, weed out the weaker stock, clean out the rape stand, etc… he was breaking the law in a heinous, willful fashion.

neither does the law
so as usual, you have no point
WanderingWanderer - August 12, 2009
Let me make sure this isn't nuanced, so you fully understand it
I’m talking about the court of public opinion. Is that concept above your head, too?
Not Bruce Froemming - August 12, 2009
Fair enough. I'll tell you a story
Worf - August 12, 2009
Cringe, indeed
That’s a sad story. But in all honesty, I think I’d have more sympathy for a battered wife.
Again, not justifying cruelty to animals.
Not Bruce Froemming - August 12, 2009
I can respect you having more sympathy for the wife
I’m just saying that I think public opinion leans toward protecting those that can’t protect themselves.
And the idea that a battered woman is just too psychologically damaged to seek help is lost on a lot of people.
I’ve only got so much love, time and money. We spend it on animals. But I can’t dispute someone spending it somewhere else.
Worf - August 12, 2009

I’m all for the helpless. I guess I’m just more for the helpless of my own species, if you know what I mean.

VolPowers - August 12, 2009
He disrespected the game. Not even a bad player should have that happen to them.
And that includes googly eyes.
KaliCub - August 12, 2009
very true
VolPowers - August 12, 2009
well......
you’d HAVE to be drunk to still be sitting in wrigley right now………or just stupid
plenz - August 12, 2009
in three years
we might get a legit outfielder………until then it’s the same shit that’s out there tonight……..it’s a shame when Milton Bradlety isthe best player in our OF
plenz - August 12, 2009
Bradley
plenz - August 12, 2009
Bradley is pretty good
and Dome is good. Both play quality defense (usually).
Allie - August 12, 2009
they are good
unfortunately all 3 of our of’s get paid for a long time……..and to be better than just ok
plenz - August 12, 2009
Did any of you happen to catch my little green mice beat up on your mighty Soccer Gods this afternoon?
It was a thing of beauty, I tell you what.
chilango2 - August 12, 2009
2-1
it was closer than i expected.
Allie - August 12, 2009
Really?
I expected the U.S. to dominate and come home with a tie. Instead Mexico dominated and got away with a good victory.
chilango2 - August 12, 2009
I'm not a huge soccer fan
I’ve tried… and these guys are coming along, but in a huge game where they’ve been picked to win I don’t have faith.
Allie - August 12, 2009
Your team can and will be good in next year's World Cup
chilango2 - August 12, 2009
I thought Mexico is usually favored against the US?
Unless of course you are talking about the might Canadian soccer team (I keeed, I keeed…)
cdnsportnic - August 12, 2009
Only when they play in Mexico
IIRC, The US has never won there
Clutch16 - August 12, 2009
Not anymore my friend
The U.S. is now the mighty giant of the zone.
chilango2 - August 12, 2009
Huh
I predicted a 2-2 tie. Maybe MEX can squeak into the World Cup finals after all
Clutch16 - August 12, 2009
They will, one way or another
there are three direct spots and one through elimination with South America.
chilango2 - August 12, 2009
So WGN is working fine for most?
Because it isn’t for me.
Shanghai Badger - August 12, 2009
The broadcast is coming through,
but whats coming through isn’t exactly enjoyable.
KaliCub - August 12, 2009
I guess I win, then. (Although I turned on the radio)
Schadnefruede – watching Brewers get lit in the 7th
Shanghai Badger - August 12, 2009
its working for me
Allie - August 12, 2009
me 2
JFCubFan - August 12, 2009
Mine looks like shit.
It says the Cubs are losing 12-3.
sue369 - August 12, 2009
mine is blank
It looks better than yours….
Shanghai Badger - August 12, 2009
yes, yes it does.
sue369 - August 12, 2009
tonight was the shark's little bighorn
more or less. the martian (marshall) helped not at all; and even if jeff gave up just a handful of runs we (the cubs) seem to be overmatched by pedro
brian custer - August 12, 2009
Doesn't Al sit near that beer toss? Maybe his recap will have an interesting story.
KaliCub - August 12, 2009
I think he's usually in the back row.
lswaidz - August 12, 2009
I thought Al sat in the LF corner
nji232 - August 12, 2009
yep LF corner top row
he sits a pretty good ways from there
LT - August 12, 2009
Wow, was that even a two minute half inning? These guys sure know how to work a pitcher!
VolPowers - August 12, 2009
What a disappointing night...
Team looks flat right now… very sad. 4 back mid-August isn’t too bad though. Only problem is I’m afraid this team is showing who they really are right now, and if we do make the playoffs I don’t think I’m going to be able to deal with them playing like this… gotta turn it around.
lswaidz - August 12, 2009
Well if they make the playoffs then they will have turned this around.
KaliCub - August 12, 2009
At this point I would be happy just making the playoffs...
After a tumultuous year like this that would end up being a pretty nice achievement.
cdnsportnic - August 12, 2009
anyone
can win in the playoffs…..regardless of perceived “matchups”
plenz - August 12, 2009
Agreed...
and I wouldn’t count us out if we made it. I’m just saying I would already feel pretty satisfied at this point if we turned this around and made it there after all of the hardships of this season.
cdnsportnic - August 12, 2009
Fan Cam grade: B-
Clutch16 - August 12, 2009
That zoom at the end was comical
I was hoping they’d show that dude who really threw the beer getting tased… but whatever floats yer boat.
lswaidz - August 12, 2009
you know whats sad
the padres just got a base hit w/ the bases laoded
jesus christos - August 12, 2009
BLAST FROM THE PAST!
lol
lexmarklover - August 12, 2009
Miles in
Clutch16 - August 12, 2009
Heilman coming in, lets get this score over 20.
KaliCub - August 12, 2009
First time I've ever been happy to see Heilman coming in to pitch
chilango2 - August 12, 2009
As if this game couldn't get worse
here comes aaron miles to play second base and aaron heilman in to pitch.
nji232 - August 12, 2009
they should switch
plenz - August 12, 2009
The double switch from HELL!
KaliCub - August 12, 2009
not really
a blowout is the only time these 2 should see playing time
jesus christos - August 12, 2009
but Miles bats LH
plenz - August 12, 2009
Question for the ages....................
how in the hell did Aaron Miles ever bat .300? Theres no frikkin way!
plenz - August 12, 2009
Like Kali said, let's make this one for the ages
chilango2 - August 12, 2009
Lou's throwing up the white flag
JFCubFan - August 12, 2009
Back to Davis
SI_JonHeyman:
it was indeed the #brewers that claimed LHP doug davis, sources say. putting it kindly, they certainly can use him.
Allie - August 12, 2009
my prediction went for naught
lexmarklover - August 12, 2009
Oh, this is too good...
Aaron and Aaron coming in at the same time. Miles and Heilman – TOOO much good stuff! (I keeed, I keeed…)
cdnsportnic - August 12, 2009
That's "Former Cub Player of the Game Aaron Miles" to you, buster
Clutch16 - August 12, 2009
Well, if you're going to doom any game with double aarons....might as well be this one.
Get ’em out of our system…for say, two months.
Sandberg's evil twin - August 12, 2009
This would be a good game
for one of the veterans on team (D.
Gurbal - August 12, 2009
poor Ron
plenz - August 12, 2009
My thoughts exactly
I’ve said for many years—while frustrated: “these idiots have no shame. They should at least do it for poor Ronnie.”
chilango2 - August 12, 2009
Nice
“Cub fans don’t give up!” -Ron Santo, 8/12/2009
Clutch16 - August 12, 2009
that may become my new signature
i’ve been looking for another one
Allie - August 12, 2009
It's awsome Alli.
Do use it.
sue369 - August 12, 2009
Done. And done.
Thanks for typing it out. I love things I can copy paste.
Allie - August 12, 2009
Looks great!!
sue369 - August 12, 2009
Hi Ronnie
I wish he sang everyday, if we have to have a conductor for the stupid stretch.
Allie - August 12, 2009
+100000000000000
plenz - August 12, 2009
indeed
Shanghai Badger - August 12, 2009
I've thought that for years
plenz - August 12, 2009
Why doesn't he do this every night?
How have the Cubs not thought of this? Its ALWAYS awesome when he does it.
nji232 - August 12, 2009
cause his voice isn't the best
JFCubFan - August 12, 2009
*Chuckles*
Like Harry was Pavorati?
Endrick - August 12, 2009
OK, we've covered Vick. We've covered beer
Man, Rick Pitino… what a dumbass
Worf - August 12, 2009
What did he do?
chilango2 - August 12, 2009
Had an affair
and then paid for her abortion/“health insurance”. Then she tried to extort money from him. 10 million dollars.
Allie - August 12, 2009
What an absolute moron
Never cared for Pitino.
Not Bruce Froemming - August 12, 2009
Worst part is
RealClearSports.com is saying his contract has a morality clause.
This is going to get uglier before it ends.
Allie - August 12, 2009
No way
they let him go. Too much Money, Too good of a coach, and the fact that UK just signed John Calipari (sp).
TheRiot Police - August 12, 2009
Morality clauses usually negate some or most of the
buy out costs.
And if the morally outraged get outraged enough in KY…
you never know.
Allie - August 12, 2009
I don't know
there is not much else in KY but Basketball…and the Derby.
TheRiot Police - August 12, 2009
True
but just a gut feeling things could change.

LT - August 12, 2009
They had a press conf this afternoon
he said he was sorry and the school said he was keeping his job.
LT - August 12, 2009
Hmm...
I’m not gonna comment on that one.
chilango2 - August 12, 2009
I almost started an OT on it today
But I figured I’ve caused enough trouble lately :)
Worf - August 12, 2009
I wish I could be in that UK crowd
when he arrives there this season.
nji232 - August 12, 2009
I want to know
what kind of resturant lets u play sneak the pickle at your table.
TheRiot Police - August 12, 2009
Applebee's?
Worf - August 12, 2009
Riblets, anyone?
Clutch16 - August 12, 2009
I worked at Applebee's. Don't order the "riblets."
stuartscottslefteye - August 12, 2009
Are they cat or rat?
chilango2 - August 12, 2009
Yes
stuartscottslefteye - August 12, 2009
or elephant? But shore as yer born
You ain’t gonna eat no unicorn
Shanghai Badger - August 12, 2009
i worked at o'charleys
do not get a salad. we found maggots in several.
Allie - August 12, 2009
Has someone ever told Miles that there is more than one pitch in an AB?
madcow256 - August 12, 2009
did he swing at the first pitch? WGN missed it
JFCubFan - August 12, 2009
He did.
Again.
madcow256 - August 12, 2009
FPSM
jesus christos - August 12, 2009
Of course Miles makes an out
but we didn’t have to see it WGN come on.
nji232 - August 12, 2009
WGN is always there to help you!
chilango2 - August 12, 2009
How the hell did that guy hit .317 last year?
AARON MILES IS A FEEBLE HUMAN BEING.
cubfanwill - August 12, 2009
Lifetime .283 BA
Hard to believe, looking at him now.
Not Bruce Froemming - August 12, 2009
Lifetime .283 BA
Is there another Aaron Miles or something? I’d give you the smiley NBF, but quite honestly I’m too upset after these last couple of games.
cubfanwill - August 12, 2009
Yeah
chilango2 - August 12, 2009
I predict
that Miles will pitch the 9th….
TheRiot Police - August 12, 2009
Damn...
He is being trumped by Marmol…
TheRiot Police - August 12, 2009
So is this overwork
or is it a chance to use Marmol in his new best role?
Allie - August 12, 2009
Oh look Erik Bedard having surgery
shocking
nji232 - August 12, 2009
is that the AL's rich harden?
jesus christos - August 12, 2009
Yep
Though Rich Harden was his DL-mate until this season
nji232 - August 12, 2009
Damn that was fast
so much for scoring more runs
JFCubFan - August 12, 2009
think about this though
if someone in April told you that in August we would have Tom gorzellany, randy Wells, and Jeff Spellcheck in our rotation along with Jake Fox at 3B where would you have thought this team would be in the standings?
plenz - August 12, 2009
Where they're headed
stuartscottslefteye - August 12, 2009
yeah....probably right
plenz - August 12, 2009
Don't underestimate the suckitude
of the Brewers and Astros.
But this is what I mean about Cubs fans. Go on a downspurt like this and fans are like “Here comes last place.” Hell, the Red Sox lost six in a row. Were their fans doing that? Maybe, but …
Not Bruce Froemming - August 12, 2009
But NBF...
The Red Sox have won recently, twice might I add…this team has not.
cubfanwill - August 12, 2009
Baseball is not an instant-gratification sport
and I think that’s part of what’s going on with some fans’ outlooks.
Not Bruce Froemming - August 12, 2009
2nd place with no wild card
= last place
plenz - August 12, 2009
I understand what you're saying
but I believe the Red Sox have the personnel to pull out from it, whereas our beloved team doesn’t.
chilango2 - August 12, 2009
I think you're underestimating things
The Cubs’ personnel isn’t bad. Far from it. Weren’t they the consensus pick to win the division?
Still, you have to play the games.
Not Bruce Froemming - August 12, 2009
Maybe
but its easier to not lose your head and feel like “here we go again” when you’ve seen some success in the last 5 years.
Allie - August 12, 2009
Wow, I thought Fox was playing SS, before I realized it was the Howard shoft. :)
KaliCub - August 12, 2009
i did that earlier
did a double take, like wtf? lol
Allie - August 12, 2009

Good thinking on waiting a few more weeks on buying that computer. Windows 7 is worth the wait.
madcow256 - August 12, 2009
good to know you agree
i just came to that decision a few days ago. :-)
i’m still using XP and know I’d have a Vista learning curve… to complicate that by then switching to 7 within weeks doesn’t make sense.
Allie - August 12, 2009
What the hell?
JUMP!
Clutch16 - August 12, 2009
