It’s almost exactly like Eric Cartman trying to get his $6.12 back from Scott Tenorman.

STL: /slams door in HENDRY’S face.
I was meaning the fact that Santo, or Ernie, or Billy, etc, doesn’t sing it every day and that we get to hear every C list celebrity this side of Jim Belushi sing day in and day out.
I believe he’ll get more serious about his offseason conditioning and come back next year stronger and more fit. We’ll know I’m right when Muskrat talks about it in Spring Training next year.
I’ll give him another year to get it together before I’m ready to jump ship on him. Right now though, it doesn’t look good. Most disturbing is that he apparently lacks the self discipline to stay in shape.
Face it…odds are even if we make a surge and win the division…we’ll probably have to play Philly or L.A. in the first round…and they’ll roll the Cubs sorry ass!
Last year, I remember thinking the same thing. The Diamondbacks had Webb, Haren, and Johnson. Had they faced the Mets, Santana would have killed them in game 1. Heck, the Dodgers with the mighty pitching of Derek Lowe, Chad Billingsley, and Hiroki Koruda destroyed the Cubs.
But the Cubs had the mighty Ryan Dempster to crap his pants in game 1, and to make it even better, he was slapped with a $52 million contract as a reward.
Has any other team gone 0-6 in consecutive postseasons?
IF they were to make the playoffs the media would harp on that just the same as they do the 101 years in which none of these guys are responsible for more than 6 or 7
But really if you don’t understand this general frustration of this whole situation then please respect the fact that some may feel differently than you.
I expect the “shut the@&$/ up” comments from nbd and drew but not from you. Maybe that’s how you roll and I just expected more from you than you really can give.
The way you and others post here feels like you are scolding those of us who don’t whine and bitch about this team. If you only posted your frustration once would be fine but you keep coming back every few innings with the same thing. That’s wheat gets old.
I’m suprised how much of a gap there is between the cubs and the phillies right now. The only close game was when we nearly threw and perfect game and still lost. If we don’t sweep the pirates this team is done.
At one point over the last few games my buddy and I were discussing the fact that we still cared when it seems as if no one who wears the jersey actually does anymore. I know that’s a fairly harsh generalization, but it doesn’t seem far from the truth.
he should be promoted. It cant get worse than this.
I want a manager to come in here and play the best 9 guys everday, salary be damned. That means benching Soriano till he decides he wants to be a legitimate outfielder and a winning baseball player.
does he work with the coaches on getting better jumps? Does he work with the hitting coach, try new things, maybe use a lighter bat? If he does those things before games, in spring training etc you give him another shot. If he reverts back to form, you yank him again.
I dont believe Soriano is lazy. Lazy means you dont want to put in the effort. I think Soriano’s problem is that he doesnt believe he NEEDS to put in the effort, that somehow his immense talents will simply carry him. I also believe he thinks numbers are an indicator of his worth to the team.
His play, in all facets of the game this season has been putrid. If he shows no ability or desire to improve on that, he is hurting the team and he deserves to be benched.
Even if the Cubs were healthy and playing well right now, there’s a good chance they would’ve gotten beat by a hot Phillies offense and Cliff Lee. It’s a damn shame, but so it goes.
It sure seems to me like I've seen quite a bit of "well we were going to lose this anyway"
posts this season. And while I’m not saying you are one of them daver, they are usually by the same people who think we’re going to win the division.
I just don’t understand how those people don’t see the irony. Cliff Lee is not god. Tim Lincecum is not god. They have been beaten before, and good teams find a way to do that.
Jim Belushi
Let the pile-on begin.

Miles strikes out looking...what a surprise!
Plus, Ryan Dempster is not very good. He is a one year wonder a la Chan Ho Park.
cubfanwill - August 13, 2009
didn't
Chan Ho set us down pretty easily the couple of times we have faced him?
CubsFan87 - August 13, 2009
Yes...
He looked like Pedro in 1999…altough last night Pedro looked like Pedro of 1999.
cubfanwill - August 13, 2009
a sign that Demp should go back to the pen?

DTJchris - August 13, 2009

I don't know
I really don’t know how to interpret fielding statistics other than fielding %, and that’s at league average.
DTJchris - August 13, 2009
OK.
daver - August 13, 2009
I look at him as Khalil Greene
basically
DTJchris - August 13, 2009

But I’m pretty sure he was a far better hitter than Greene last season.
daver - August 13, 2009
No he's not. Great fielder, streaky hitter
Mapmaker - August 13, 2009
good luck with that
santoswoodenlegs - August 13, 2009
you'd probably be getting a better base runner too.
there’s no denying that Theriot is a decent hitter, but he’s lacking in many other categories
Illicat - August 13, 2009
the ONLY thing he excels at is hitting.
santoswoodenlegs - August 13, 2009
so Theriot is just a tool, not a 5-tool guy?
LAcarl519 - August 13, 2009
and one could make the argument that "excels" is being generous
He has a nice average, but his OBP is awful, and his slugging isn’t good. Christian freaking Guzman has a higher slugging percentage
Illicat - August 13, 2009
relative to baserunning, catching and throwing.....
he EXCELS at hitting.
santoswoodenlegs - August 13, 2009
okay, got me there
Illicat - August 13, 2009
Theriot is a completely serviceable
2nd baseman and 8 hitter.
In fact, that’s what he would really excel at. IMO. But the Cubs can’t see that.
Gibbon Jockey - August 13, 2009

Worf - August 13, 2009
Soto sucks...
Plus, he’s trying to look like Prince Fielder.
cubfanwill - August 13, 2009
At least the Cubs were competitive
for ONE of the three games!
Silver lining.
ElHijoDelRonSanto - August 13, 2009
No...There is no silver lining when you're swept
cubfanwill - August 13, 2009
at home
Mapmaker - August 13, 2009
There is no silver lining
I’ve got no problem with “OK, let’s get them tomorrow”
But let’s not sugarcoat a piece of baboon feces here, OK?
Worf - August 13, 2009
Sarcasm
it’s what’s for dinner.
ElHijoDelRonSanto - August 13, 2009
RALLY TIME!
:D
drewishdrewid - August 13, 2009
Six-run homer for Muffin Man!
daver - August 13, 2009
Keep the faith
tootle - August 13, 2009
Jeff Baker is the offensive MVP of this series.
That does not make me very happy. That’s all I’m saying.
Tangled Up In Blue - August 13, 2009
Hitting .310 as a Cub....I'll take it
carmen_fanzone - August 13, 2009
Me too.
Just wish we had some hitting in a rather big series from the usual suspects is all.
Tangled Up In Blue - August 13, 2009
true, true
carmen_fanzone - August 13, 2009
A spark starts a fire!
santoswoodenlegs - August 13, 2009
Legsie, my friend
I think you need “Confucius say:” before 76 percent of your posts.
My first stat!
Worf - August 13, 2009
At least Lou's already used Miles!
Jody Jody Davis - August 13, 2009
i have no problem with muffin man replacing fontenot as the starting 2b
LH RH matchups be damned
jesus christos - August 13, 2009
Absolutely
He is 9 for his last 12.
louslovechild - August 13, 2009
fitting way to end the game
jesus christos - August 13, 2009
GAME OVER!!!
THAT F’NG SUCKED
cubfanwill - August 13, 2009
and there you have it....
carmen_fanzone - August 13, 2009
Well.........at least the Pirates are coming to town.
Tangled Up In Blue - August 13, 2009
this. isn't. pittsburgh.
santoswoodenlegs - August 13, 2009
Yep
Let’s slap around a last-place team and feel good again, forgetting that the team SUCKS against anyone with a pulse.
Worf - August 13, 2009
I know, I know.
I can’t read another article on what Jay Cutler is having for breakfast and how fast he drives to work is all. Have to keep the faith, Worf!
Tangled Up In Blue - August 13, 2009
Personally, I think it's a bit of a leap to expect us to slap around anybody right now...
…bad team or not.
bluekoolaide - August 13, 2009
Absolutely
it would really serve these guys right if they are looking at Pittsburgh as creme puffs and lose 2 of 3.
That would suck, but it would serve them right.
Worf - August 13, 2009
Agreed
At one point over the last few games my buddy and I were discussing the fact that we still cared when it seems as if no one who wears the jersey actually does anymore. I know that’s a fairly harsh generalization, but it doesn’t seem far from the truth.
Tangled Up In Blue - August 13, 2009
Well, I feel sufficiently apathetic right now.
Have a good night everyone. Get ’em tomorrow, I suppose.
Bill Potter - August 13, 2009
Guten Nacht!
eths - August 13, 2009
Just like Stoney in '04
it’s clearly Brenly’s fault that the Cubs are the most disappointing team in baseball.
ElHijoDelRonSanto - August 13, 2009
We CAN'T
be the franchise that runs off two color-commentators for meanieness. We just can’t.
Worf - August 13, 2009
it happens
so lighten up francis
tootle - August 13, 2009
No, it doesn't happen
So, bite me, Murgatroyd
Worf - August 13, 2009
Heavens!
Pot Roast still makes me laugh.
and hungry.
Then I eat it and I’m not hungry.
But I still laugh.
Gibbon Jockey - August 13, 2009
if Brenly would get canned that would be a joke
he should be promoted. It cant get worse than this.
I want a manager to come in here and play the best 9 guys everday, salary be damned. That means benching Soriano till he decides he wants to be a legitimate outfielder and a winning baseball player.
Ryanocm1 - August 13, 2009
just as a mental exercise, I'll ask
so, you bench Soriano. He takes no live pitching, sees no live plays in the field.
How, then, do you tell when he “wants” to be a legitimate player?
drewishdrewid - August 13, 2009
I'll wager the correct answer (or the one wanted)
is when Soriano publicly apologies for being lazy and a guess hitting hack, and then promises to grit his teeth and try harder.
CaliCub - August 13, 2009
and be ready to play at a moments notice.
santoswoodenlegs - August 13, 2009
does he need
to nail himself to the cross, or will he have help?
drewishdrewid - August 13, 2009
You're right, drew
There is no real good solution to getting Soriano to hustle and earn his contract.
We’re just stuck with him
Worf - August 13, 2009
well, you see if he puts in the effort
does he work with the coaches on getting better jumps?
Ryanocm1 - August 13, 2009
in spring training?
you’re going to bench a perennial all star and key player for a year?
jebus.
drewishdrewid - August 13, 2009
So that means you'd be benching Soriano forever
Not that I necessarily have a problem with that.
bluekoolaide - August 13, 2009
Not solely to pick on Soriano
same would apply to Geo. Does he put in the effort to get back in shape and help this ball club. If not, relegate him to back up catcher.
It would apply to Zambrano as well. Is he making every effort to improve or is he spending his time playing home run derby?
Ryanocm1 - August 13, 2009
now I wonder
if you’re watching the same players the rest of us are.
drewishdrewid - August 13, 2009
in a little over an hour ill get off work
till then I’ll have to stay sober…..:(
mjk83 - August 13, 2009
Cubs loose...

Not to get into Theology
But Jesus was God, its the holy trinity, Father, Son, Holy Spirit. All God, just different forms of God.
DTJchris - August 13, 2009
you just got into Theology.
santoswoodenlegs - August 13, 2009
Yeah, well...
That’s what going to a Catholic university get ya, I suppose. Three mandatory theology classes.
DTJchris - August 13, 2009
Not to get into Theology
but not all Christian offshoots believe that.
Illicat - August 13, 2009
Or as I like to call it
Daddy-O, Junior and The Spook.
Worf - August 13, 2009
loose?
they should be tight?

It's kinda late here so maybe, just maybe one O too many snuck in
eths - August 13, 2009
You're asking the wrong guy.
santoswoodenlegs - August 13, 2009
how do you know its a guy?
LAcarl519 - August 13, 2009
For the sake of not getting into it with you....
I’ll just say I’m convinced.
santoswoodenlegs - August 13, 2009
The question is rhetorical, assuming we share convictions...

i have no shame
jesus christos - August 13, 2009

Worf - August 13, 2009
is that Paul Rudd?
CaliCub - August 13, 2009
Oh well, go get 'em tomorrow.
At least it’ll be a somewhat competitive affair. A couple AAA clubs trading failure.
Gibbon Jockey - August 13, 2009
Yeah, but one of those teams spent $100 million more.
cubfanwill - August 13, 2009
Not my $100 million
so that doesn’t bug me.
Gibbon Jockey - August 13, 2009
That's what all that beer money is for!
LeSaboteur - August 13, 2009
Look at it this way.
Even if the Cubs were healthy and playing well right now, there’s a good chance they would’ve gotten beat by a hot Phillies offense and Cliff Lee. It’s a damn shame, but so it goes.
daver - August 13, 2009
but they would have likely been able to win the other two games.
santoswoodenlegs - August 13, 2009
True, I just hope no one is surprised by this result.
daver - August 13, 2009
It sure seems to me like I've seen quite a bit of "well we were going to lose this anyway"
posts this season. And while I’m not saying you are one of them daver, they are usually by the same people who think we’re going to win the division.
I just don’t understand how those people don’t see the irony. Cliff Lee is not god. Tim Lincecum is not god. They have been beaten before, and good teams find a way to do that.
Illicat - August 13, 2009
you understand that the Phillies offense WASN'T hot coming into Chicago right?
our pitching got them well
Illicat - August 13, 2009
It's not so much the losing that gets me
It’s looking so completely inept that brings out my i"nner ledgejumper".
bluekoolaide - August 13, 2009
They didn't get hot against Rich Harden.
And it’s really not surprising that a team like the Phillies would get hot against an underdeveloped Jeff Samardzija and exhausted Sean Marshall.
daver - August 13, 2009
Yeah, I don't think too many of us (except, maybe, Lou)
…were caught too much by surprise by the Spellcheck massacre.
bluekoolaide - August 13, 2009
Onedec returns tomorrow!
Maybe Cedeno and Miles will collide at some point. This weekend could be like watching a demolition derby the way these two teams are playing.
LAcarl519 - August 13, 2009
I would trade Miles for Cedeno AND throw in Heilman....and pay both their salaries.
santoswoodenlegs - August 13, 2009
And then I'd slap Cedeno!
WIN-WIN-WIN!
Worf - August 13, 2009
CaliCub - August 13, 2009
Time for Bill?
Maybe he should hit Lou with that broom…
LT - August 13, 2009
Um no.
daver - August 13, 2009
shouldn't the flashing sign read, "CUBS FAIL!" :-(
LAcarl519 - August 13, 2009
I like it -- maybe delusion is the way to go
We win! We’re going all the way!
Reality isn’t working out so well, anyway.
cubmudgeon - August 13, 2009
Oh, before I forget.
daver - August 13, 2009
