There is no other information at this time, but the MLB.com scoreboard page is now reporting the game has been postponed. Expect a doubleheader to be played sometime during the Pirates' visit to Chicago on September 29, 30 and October 1.
I'll have more to say about this a bit later.

Couldn't they have played
the entire game in the time they took to have that rain delay?
Hilary Lee - August 16, 2009
Yes.
Or enough to make it official.
Al Yellon - August 16, 2009
Sweep
Technically?
ak123 - August 16, 2009
Well, I guess.
Al Yellon - August 16, 2009
Cubs stayed out of loss column - one way or another.
daver - August 17, 2009
The Northwest Herald Twitter guy confirms:
Is this because the Cubs have to catch their flight or something? Things look like they’re clearing up somewhat by me. Seems like a 5 or 5:30 start wouldn’t have been unreasonable.
daver - August 16, 2009
I think the flight has a lot to do with it.
Starting at 5:30 means the Cubs flight wouldn’t leave till 10 pm or later — an awfully long day.
Al Yellon - August 16, 2009
I guess. It is a night game tomorrow, though.
Then again, maybe a makeup game vs. the Pirates will come in handy later in the season.
daver - August 16, 2009
West Coast game, though.
I think the long flight time and 2-hour time difference factored into this.
Al Yellon - August 16, 2009
yes
we all have to remember that as much as we dont like to work 12 hours in a day I am sure that these guys dont like to do it either – especially when 90% of that time would be spent in the clubhouse passing the time.
hansman1982 - August 16, 2009
Aaron Miles may have had that predicted good day after all
Winning $25 in poker is a good day, right?
Clutch16 - August 16, 2009
I am guessing
for guys who make 7 and 8 figures a year that $25 isnt a “good” day.
hansman1982 - August 16, 2009
or can they not do it because it would then become a night game?
katie casey - August 16, 2009
that shouldn't be an issue.
a couple of rainouts earlier this season were night games and rescheduled as day games so Cubs should have a bit of a buffer zone in terms of reaching the limit on # of night games.
ballhawk - August 16, 2009
that's true
I can’t remember ever having so many rainouts. Is this a record or something?
katie casey - August 16, 2009
I can't remember this many rainouts in a season in at least the last 20 years.
Al Yellon - August 16, 2009
Dangit
With all the 9 o clock starts this week, today was the only day I was going to be able to watch a whole Cubs game all week. Oh well.
wrigleyrocker12 - August 16, 2009
i hate myself

IT'S HAPPENING????!!!??
daver - August 16, 2009
sobs sobs sobs sobs IT'S HAPPENING!?!?!?!!?
lexmarklover - August 16, 2009
3 games out of wildcard
With minimal effort today!
ak123 - August 16, 2009
The bullpen is fresh!
daver - August 16, 2009
Could be 2.5 games out by end of night
Never thought I’d root for Marlins to win a DH.
ak123 - August 16, 2009
Thump!
Oh my aching back. This hard landings are gonna kill me.
I really wish we knew by whom and why the game was called after waiting for hours.
eths - August 16, 2009
Sure made waiting 3 hours look very silly.
Sandberg's evil twin - August 16, 2009
Well I went out to the airport and thought I was gonna miss the game,
and got back from the airport and I thought I wouldn’t miss anything,
and now it’s midnight local time
and time to go to bed, I suppose…
Nice way to spend a Sunday evening.
eths - August 16, 2009
too bad
i was hanging on all day hoping for some cubs baseball. logansport, in weather about the same
brian custer - August 16, 2009
still 5-4
Pads over Cards, in the top of the 8th.
drewishdrewid - August 16, 2009
Anyone have an idea if Harden gets pushed back
and Lilly would go tuesday?
mrcubsfan - August 16, 2009
I am glad Al
shares my sentiments re this could have been at least an official game today.
I look forward to what he has to say on the mismanagement.
The E-Man - August 16, 2009
Pressure's on, Al.
daver - August 16, 2009
OK! OK! I've been writing!
Jump here for further discussion.
Al Yellon - August 16, 2009
And what would have happened
Had they been losing after 5 innings.
Everyone would have complained they shouldn’t have played today if they didn’t think they could get in 9 games.
ak123 - August 16, 2009
The team is "hot"
and won two games in a row. More than any recent times, I would say that your argument is not very solid in the case of the Pirates.
The E-Man - August 16, 2009
You kidding?
Ohlendorf has actually won games with the Pirates.
Rich Harden while really good lately, could have easily had a bad game. The Cubs also had Miles and Fontenot playing.
They had Fox in LF for what the 2nd or 3rd time all season and we don’t know how Aramis is feeling.
After 5 innings, the game could have been 5-3 in Pirates favor.
ak123 - August 16, 2009
Well, Rich Hill had a no hitter
for almost six innings. Seen his stats for his last three starts?
I don’t care who the Cubs started today including Aaron Freakin’ Mild – I’d still give the ods to the Cubs, and Vegas I’m sure would agree.
We’d STILL have A-Ram, D-Lee, Fuku – all better than ANY Pirates players.
The E-Man - August 16, 2009
Okay this really isn't worth arguing with you
I’m going outside in the nice weather here in CT.
ak123 - August 16, 2009
I agree
we disagree – and I sat in the rain needlessly today.
Enjoy.
On to the West Coast!
The E-Man - August 16, 2009
Ohlendorf isn't exactly chopped liver, E
He’s probably been their best pitcher this year, and he shut down the Cubs in June in Pittsburgh.
I’ll take it, hope the Padres hang on and pick up ground on everybody today.
Not Bruce Froemming - August 16, 2009
He is 7-7
with a 4+ era.
He has been decent recently – yes, but the team for the last two days have been scoring with RISP.
Something they did not do much recently.
In spite of this pitcher – I’d still like the Cubs chances in this one game.
The E-Man - August 16, 2009
I thought he was 10-8
Regardless, it’s possible Harden’s start would have been wasted if they had to begin, then stop the game. At least with rosters expanded in September, a doubleheader isn’t as daunting.
Not Bruce Froemming - August 16, 2009
Plus the Cubs managed to rest every player today, before the long plane trip.
Mother Nature cooperated with the Cubs today.
Fraggin Judge - August 16, 2009
Yep - SORRY
I think perhaps you’re 10-8 – era about what I said.
I guess we could say 10-8 is like a 20 game winner with the Bucs – right Bruce?
haha
The E-Man - August 16, 2009
Kinda like the year Carlton won 27
of the Phllies’ 59. Bad baseball and Pennsylvania can go together like a horse and carriage, I guess … :)
Not Bruce Froemming - August 16, 2009
HAHA
could you imagine how the “fans” in Pitt. feel??
Geez!
I mean at least they have the Steelers to pick up the slack – but the team is only an investment, period, for the owner group.
The E-Man - August 16, 2009
Don't forget the Penguins
That the other two teams in town are champions in their respective sports really makes the Bucs even more irrelevant in Pittsburgh. It’s a real shame, considering the history of the franchise and how nice PNC Park is.
Not Bruce Froemming - August 16, 2009
Although I do feel for you
having to sit through all that.
Not Bruce Froemming - August 16, 2009
The LEft field bleacher folks
were pretty funny.
Although I was Upper Deck Box -
Someone in LF Blea brought this huge “tarp” which covered like 12 rows!
The E-Man - August 16, 2009
Ha! Cool
At least people were having fun with it.
Not Bruce Froemming - August 16, 2009
Yeah...
I saw Al at least had an umbrella, I think (Al?).
But – I had plenty of things I could have attended to.
On the one bright note – I got some “quality time” in with my teen daughter which becomes harder and harder as they get older.
The E-Man - August 16, 2009
Yes, I did.
Al Yellon - August 16, 2009
Nice
I’m going through the same thing with my 15-year-old goddaughter. We’re all getting older — some of just are just getting old. :)
Not Bruce Froemming - August 16, 2009
HAHAHA!
Ain’t that the truth!
The E-Man - August 16, 2009
Phew
Was on my way out the door and decided to check BCB for an update. Even Cubs.com doesn’t have this info.
Fukudometer - August 16, 2009
That's what we're here for.
Sandberg's evil twin - August 16, 2009
We know more than the Cubs
Or at least more than Piniella and Hendry.
Clutch16 - August 16, 2009
We be omniscient...
eths - August 16, 2009
And obviously slightly bonkers
725+ posts in four threads during a rain delay. I’ll bet the Pads’ SBN site doesn’t see that many posts in the upcoming series.
Clutch16 - August 16, 2009
Yep
eths - August 16, 2009
I was going to say same thing
But I was going to predict this board has more posts today than any other team in MLB.
Kinda sad but hey, it’s apparently nasty there in Chicago!
ak123 - August 16, 2009
GO TIGER GO TIGER GO GO GO
dtpollitt - August 16, 2009
Cards-Pads in another rain delay
Fitting for today I guess. Hopefully the Padres will win it late and get in late.
mgrace17 - August 16, 2009
Go rain! If they have to call it now it's a SD win!
eths - August 16, 2009
True
If it’s called now, Padres win. Let it pour.
Not Bruce Froemming - August 16, 2009
Looks like it's going to.
St. Louis area radar
Al Yellon - August 16, 2009
That was some heavy rain
Before they went to a delay.
ak123 - August 16, 2009
the cards have to travel to LA tonight too...hope for a long delay
then call it
DC Cubbie - August 16, 2009

Depending on the standings, this game may not be played at all.
We’ll know by then, the final week of the season.
Fraggin Judge - August 16, 2009
It will be rescheduled, because...
… the Pirates have one more trip to Wrigley Field. If they didn’t, THEN they would hold it for the end of the season.
Expect a doubleheader on September 29, maybe day/night (there’s already a night game scheduled that date.0
Al Yellon - August 16, 2009
God didn't want to see Miles either
Worf - August 16, 2009
Wrigley deserves 40 days and 40 nights of rain
for having Miles in the starting lineup
DC Cubbie - August 16, 2009
"And God saw the lineup... and he was displeased"
Worf - August 16, 2009
Actually - do you think
“God” or the “Baseball Gods” could even like a Cub Team with Aaron Miles on it?
The E-Man - August 16, 2009
Thanks, Mother Nature.
Fraggin Judge - August 16, 2009
Crap.
Had seats 6 rows behind homeplate. I should have known it was going to be a bad day, when I stepped off the red line and almost bumped into Woo Woo.
cubswynn - August 16, 2009
Oh - MAN!
At least I was covered! You got soaked – AND Woo-ed!!
The E-Man - August 16, 2009
No, not him
He showed up in Cincinnati for the last game of the series down there, the one the Cubs lost. I should have known he’d be a bad-luck charm.
How does someone who has no discernable source of income manage to get to Cincinnati for a ball game?
Not Bruce Froemming - August 16, 2009
The "morning zoo" type radio idiots pay his way.
Al Yellon - August 16, 2009
I wish they'd stop
I saw him in Arizona during the playoffs in 2007, too. The gal sitting next to me at Game 1 said he was on her fight that day, then I saw him at one of the bars across from Chase Field.
I figured that was a special occasion, and I’m not surprised to see him in Milwaukee. But the second I heard him at GABP, I figured it would be a bad night.
Not Bruce Froemming - August 16, 2009
Al - does he have
Carte Blanche at Wrigley for any game?
The E-Man - August 16, 2009
No.
Used to, but not any more. He has to have a ticket now. People used to give him tickets, but with them as expensive as they are these days, that rarely happens.
Thankfully.
Al Yellon - August 16, 2009
From Cubs press release on postponement
Al Yellon - August 16, 2009
Cards have
2 on, 2 outs, bottom of the 8th.
drewishdrewid - August 16, 2009
And Holliday
grounds into a force out. Three outs!
drewishdrewid - August 16, 2009
This delay was handled horribly...
I sat in the bleachers from 11:20 til they called it, what a joke! It seems like they just kept people there to rake in money for the concessions. Anyway enough venting, they announced that we were to go to Cubs.com to get the rainout tickets. There is nothing on the site at this time. I assume this is due to them not having a date scheduled.
TuscaniLove - August 16, 2009
No...
… you don’t go to cubs.com “to get the rainout tickets”.
You go to cubs.com to get information about how to use the tickets you already have. I hope you held on to yours, because you might need it, either for the makeup game or to get a refund.
Al Yellon - August 17, 2009
Yes I did
I kept the tickets. However, heres what I’m wondering. I purchased them on eBay from a company similar to stubhub. The 2 tickets I have were purchased by someone else. How will I get the makeup tickets or refund if my billing address and name aren’t on the tickets?
