The Cubs haven't had a visit to Fox-TV's Saturday regional telecasts in over a month (since July 11), so let's see which of you will be "treated" -- and I use the word loosely -- to today's telecast.
Guess what the other game is? You probably don't need to. It's those two East Coast teams who shall remain nameless here. Naturally, the New York-based television network thinks everyone should see them. Here's the complete list of markets carrying the Cubs/Dodgers game:
Albuqerque, NM; Bakersfield, CA; Bowling Green, KY; Casper, WY; Cedar Rapids, IA; Champaign, IL; Cheyenne, WY; Chicago, IL; Chico, CA; Cincinnati, OH; Colorado Springs, CO; Columbia, MO; Davenport, IA; Dayton, OH; Denver, CO; Des Moines, IA; Eureka, CA; Evansville, IN; Ft. Smith, AR; Ft. Wayne, IN; Fresno, CA; Grand Junction, CO; Green Bay, WI; Honolulu, HI; Houston, TX; Indianapolis, IN; Jackson, TN; Joplin, MO; Kansas City, MO; LaCrosse, WI; Las Vegas, NV; Lexington, KY; Lincoln, NE; Los Angeles, CA; Louisville, KY; Madison, WI; Medford, OR; Memphis, TN; Milwaukee, WI; Monterey, CA; Nashville, TN; North Platte, NE; Oklahoma City, OK; Omaha, NE; Ottumwa, IA; Paducah, KY; Palm Springs, CA; Peoria, IL; Phoenix, AZ; Quincy, IL; Reno, NV; Rockford, IL; Sacramento, CA; San Diego, CA; San Francisco, CA; Sacramento, CA; Sioux City, IA; South Bend, IN; Springfield, IL; Springfield, MO; St. Louis, MO; Terre Haute, IN; Topeka, KS; Tucson, AZ; Tulsa, OK; Wausau, WI; Wichita, KS; Yuma, AZ
In summary: Illinois, Indiana, Missouri, Iowa, Kansas, Arizona, Nevada, California, Wyoming, Wisconsin, Colorado, Hawaii, and parts of Tennessee, New Mexico, Texas, Nebraska and Ohio.
Try to enjoy the game. Maybe you consider yourself lucky if you can't see it.

Charlie Haeger had a typical knuckleballer's start in his return to the major leagues last Monday vs. the Cardinals. He struck out two and didn't walk anyone -- but gave up a pair of homers, the difference in a 3-2 Cardinals win. He's one of only two active practitioners of the nearly lost knuckleball art, the other being Tim Wakefield. The Cubs never faced him in his two brief callups with the White Sox in 2006 and 2007; as far as I can tell the last time the Cubs faced a knuckleballer, it was Wakefield on June 12, 2005 at Wrigley Field; boxscore posted for amusement value only. Knuckleballers can either be lights-out or get pounded; hopefully it'll be "get pounded" today. The only current Cub Haeger has ever faced is Jeff Baker (0-for-1).
Ted Lilly and the Cubs defeated the Dodgers on May 29 at Wrigley Field. Familiar score, too -- 2-1. Ted was originally drafted by the Dodgers organization in 1996 and is 3-0, 3.20 in four starts vs. LA. The Dodgers who he defeated in May were Manny-less; Manny Ramirez has hit four HR off Ted, but is only 11-for-42 (.262) overall.

We get it here in Nashville. What about a win today puleeeze??
LT - August 22, 2009
Enjoying this game from 1969 though
LT - August 22, 2009
how do you get that?
katie casey - August 22, 2009
It's on MLB channel right now
LT - August 22, 2009
Thanks
I don’t think I get that.
katie casey - August 22, 2009
it's on Comcast and Directv
not sure about Dish network or other cable systems
LT - August 22, 2009
drats
katie casey - August 22, 2009
Is that on MLB.TV (internet) as well?
eths - August 22, 2009
This could be tough, but Lilly is pitching.
katie casey - August 22, 2009
The Lilly factor gives us an immediate advantage
cubswgnrocks - August 22, 2009
This just somehow does not sound like Al.
Try to enjoy the game. Maybe you consider yourself lucky if you can’t see it.: Al, do not give up the ship!
We need the split in L.A., desperatly… Eamus Catuli
eths - August 22, 2009
We need the split just to keep that all time record tie going.
katie casey - August 22, 2009
Exactly!
I’m not giving up the ship, trust me.
Al Yellon - August 22, 2009
Good!
eths - August 22, 2009
With Carpenter going
in SD tonight, a win by the Cubs likely is necessary to avoid dropping another game to the Cardinals.
azjazzman - August 22, 2009
I find myself caring less and less about this season...
Quite honestly, everything that can go wrong, has gone wrong.
Kevin Gregg SUCKS.
Aaron Miles REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY SUCKS.
Milton Bradley has 9 homers and 31 RBI’s and a stupid chirping motion to a fan after he hits a meaningless solo homer.
Mike Fontenot has been exposed as an everyday player…altough he has more RBI’s than Bradley.
Geo Soto has either a sophmore slump or he’s a one year wonder, I tend to lean towards the latter.
Alfonso Soriano has completely fall off the edge, and he’s here for FIVE MORE YEARS.
Zambrano is breaking down, and he has a grand total of 7 wins. Not to mention he’s a headcase.
Dempster of last year was a classic contract year, except Game.
Aaron Heilman is worse than Bob Howry, at least Howry threw strikes.
Jake Fox looks like he’s become exposed a la Micah Hoffpauir.
Plus, the manager makes baffling decisions and seems uninterested.
cubfanwill - August 22, 2009
That should be "Game 1"
cubfanwill - August 22, 2009
and yet you're here
katie casey - August 22, 2009
Yep...
I still watch, but have no expectations.
cubfanwill - August 22, 2009
but we
have to put up with your lack of expectations?
drewishdrewid - August 22, 2009
Wow.
chilango2 - August 22, 2009
you keep saying that
when I make comments.
He doesn’t have “no expectations”. He has bad expectations. And, apparently, insists that he gets to share them.
drewishdrewid - August 22, 2009
he does get to share them
just like everyone else who posts on here gets to share their opinions
Illicat - August 22, 2009
that's right
he does.
He doesn’t, however, get to do so in a vacuum.
drewishdrewid - August 22, 2009
Just please be less sanctimonious
You are without a doubt the best and most loyal fan the Cubs have ever had. The rest of us have doubts and fears about our team. We are given the option to express them here, with varying results. If you don’t agree with a particular opinion, attack said opinion, not the poster.
Thank you Drew.
chilango2 - August 22, 2009
so his opinion should not spark another to state their opinion?
Cubbie-Tim - August 22, 2009
no, I don't think it's that at all.
It’s not enough for cubfanwill to have given up on the team. He has to come and share it — ENUMERATE it. And there’s not a damn thing we can do about it. I’m not going to flag his comment for “lameness”, although I kinda wish I could.
He isn’t just giving up on the cubs. He’s trying to get the rest of us to do it too.
drewishdrewid - August 22, 2009
What on earth are you talking about?
So, since my opinion about this underachieving baseball team is negative, I should keep it to myself?
What if I thought your unrealistic optimism should not be shared here, and I thought it was lame?
Not everyone here is as optimistic about this team as your are Drew. And frankly, as far as wanting the rest of you to “give up” on this team, I could care less.
cubfanwill - August 22, 2009
Obviously...
I care about this team, or I wouldn’t be here.
cubfanwill - August 22, 2009
Of course I can share my opinions here...
just like everybody else.
Drew, just because you watch the Cubs does not mean you have to be optimistic about the state of the team.
cubfanwill - August 22, 2009
and if a fan gives up
then stop posting about them, stop reading about them, and hibernate until next season. the negative posting is meant for two reasons only:
Cubbie-Tim - August 22, 2009
what about those who want to be sanctimonious about not giving up?
Illicat - August 22, 2009
you mean support the Cubs and want them to win games
crazy thoughts there (rolls eyes)
Cubbie-Tim - August 22, 2009
I'm rolling my eyes
at all this bickering about what type of fans we are. You guys are so silly.
katie casey - August 22, 2009
I know you are
but what am I?
LT - August 22, 2009
I'm gonna tell mom!
katie casey - August 22, 2009
And we're still in second place - go figure.
Most everything HAS gone wrong this year, but on paper that description fits the Nationals. Makes you think that we’re a few tweaks and a little more production away from winning 90+ games in the very near future. I think the Cubs are much closer to being a contender than needing to be blown up…
DKT - August 22, 2009
we're in second place because our division is BAAAAAAD
we’re two games over .500 and behind first by six games. That’s BARELY contending.
Illicat - August 22, 2009
Behind by 7 games
cubfanwill - August 22, 2009
okay, we're REALLY BARELY contending
Illicat - August 22, 2009
Thank God for the Wild Card
Seriously – I mean that. Unless they starting winning a boat load of games, the Cubs won’t challenge for the Wild Card. But it keeps the interest alive…
DKT - August 22, 2009
They are 6 games back in the wild card race...
dtc0405 - August 22, 2009
we're six games out of the wildcard, and would have to hope four different teams
completely collapse. We’re not contending for ANYTHING right now. and I’ll say it again, this team knows that. 1 hit last night. 1 HIT!
Illicat - August 22, 2009
If they have any chance...
…it is the division.
Being 7 back with one team ahead, is a hell of a lot better than 6 back with 4 teams ahead – trust me.
MPH73 - August 22, 2009
yep
Rockies and Giants will be playing each other..
same with ATL & Fla….
someone has to win…its hard to pick up ground every day
cozmotaylor123 - August 22, 2009
Ah, but...
… two of those teams could be virtually eliminated if one of the two groupings sweeps the other.
That could give the Cubs a chance to gain on the top spot.
Al Yellon - August 22, 2009
Sinking Ship ???
Let’s see if after the season that “we’re a few tweaks …. away from winning 90+ games in the very near future”.
Right now it takes an optimist to even predict an above .500 record for this flawed team. A pessimist might say the wheels are coming off and the final quarter of the season is potentially very, very ugly.
wrigley1 - August 22, 2009
I wonder what Cubs fans will say...
IF (big if) they win 8 out of 10 on the next homestand?
We’re right back in it!
The season is not over yet!
Go Cubs Go!
Let’s let them play all 162 and we’ll see what happens. Just based on the schedule alone, there’s NO WAY they finish below .500.
DKT - August 22, 2009
true
but the Cubs can make the impossible the possible, adn vice versa
Cubbie-Tim - August 22, 2009
Hey! No negative vibes, please!
Al Yellon - August 22, 2009
its not meant as negative
those who want to say we are done, well the Cubs have proven they can make the impossible happen. Why not see what happens instead of walking away
Cubbie-Tim - August 22, 2009
I'm not sure where you're getting that Fox has been exposed
He was hitting .305 10 days ago. It seems more that Lou has forgotten Fox is on the team, as he’s had three at-bats over the last week. This despite a left fielder continuing to start who can’t hit
Illicat - August 22, 2009
I guess I mean...
That he’s another late 20’s rookie, that isn’t a good fielder. Plus, he hasn’t been seeing many fastballs lately.
That being said, I’d much rather see he or Fuld in the outfield than that guy.
cubfanwill - August 22, 2009
he's not really seeing any pitches right now, because Lou barely plays him
Aaron Miles has more atbats in the last week than Jake Fox. Seriously
Illicat - August 22, 2009
Gee wiz-
what is going on!?
katie casey - August 22, 2009
we have a clueless manager
this is what bad managers do.
Illicat - August 22, 2009
Probably referring
to the fact that Fox is 3 for his last 19.
azjazzman - August 22, 2009
maybe, but before that recent slide, which could also be thanks to in-frequent playing time
he was 6 for 14.
Those 19 at bats span seven games. he’s not getting regular plate appearances
Illicat - August 22, 2009
Don't hang your hat...
…on Fox. We have no idea what will happen to him as teams get a chance to see his holes.
Hoffpauir put up incredible numbers at AAA just like Fox, but he could make the adjustment at the big league level. Fox might, but I wouldn’t pencil him in as a starter next year, you may end up with another Fontenot situation.
MPH73 - August 22, 2009
Guess I'm watching the game online today
since my Fox station is showing those 2 teams from the AL.
PhillyCub - August 22, 2009
But that's what EVERYONE wants to see
Right Fox Network?
cubfanwill - August 22, 2009
In my opinion
we need some kind of change, and i think we should fire lou. It’s nothing personal to lou but this team needs to be sent a message that things need to get better, similar to what the brewers did late last year, which actually helped them into the playoffs.
gocubs1 - August 22, 2009
it's not going to happen
Lou is here for the rest of the season. Hopefully he won’t be back next year and we can take that consolation prize.
Despite some fans not “giving up hope” I think the team, and front office knows this season is done.
One stinking hit last night? That’s not a team that thinks it’s still in contention
Illicat - August 22, 2009
Milwaukee pretty much backed into the playoffs.....
…and Dale Sveum was only 7-5 after he took over for Macha
carmen_fanzone - August 22, 2009
Sveum took over for Yost
Macha took over for Sveum

katie casey - August 22, 2009
I would like to see Fuld in LF & Fukudome in CF myself this afternoon
JFCubFan - August 22, 2009
What I would give for that.
On 2nd thought-apparently not as much as Worf.

Haeger has faced the Cubbies...
… it was Spring Training, March 2007. I remember because Santo was completely clueless about Haeger. Santo during the broadcast had no idea that Haeger threw a knuckleball. I know it was only a ST gaming, but jeez do a bit of preparation (FYI the Cubs TV guys knew about Haeger and his main pitch – the knuckleball).
In that ST game Derrek Lee hit a HR off Haeger.
DrCrawdad - August 22, 2009
On the plus side
when Lee hit the home run, we didn’t have to hear Santo screech about putting it on the board.
Illicat - August 22, 2009
By the time Santo completed saying “YOU CAN PUT ON THE BOARD, YES!” two innings would have passed by.
DrCrawdad - August 22, 2009
I had forgotten about that game...
… and I wrote a one-line recap as part of a movie review. Why? The Cubs lost 13-2.
Looks like Soriano and Ramirez faced Haeger in that game, too.
Al Yellon - August 22, 2009
Knuckle under...
I had hoped that Haeger would get the long relief role in the Sox BP last season, but he was released late in the season. I enjoy the odd-ball nature of the knuckleball and have had a fondness for that pitch since my youth watching Wilbur Wood piling up the innings for the Sox. Wood had four straight seasons of 300+ IP and the fifth year he had 291!
The trouble for the Cubs may not be today but tomorrow and the next day. Maybe it won’t the same, but I seem to recall the Sox sluggers being screwed up for days after facing knuckleballers, such as Steve Sparks.
DrCrawdad - August 22, 2009
I've heard that before.
Didn’t seem to bother the Cardinals after they faced him.
Al Yellon - August 22, 2009
Coincidence perhaps but...
…Pujols has only one hit since his HR off Haeger.
DrCrawdad - August 22, 2009
You're right
It was only a spring training game. Thanks for setting us straight
LT - August 22, 2009
simple scouting of Haeger...
in his start against the Cardinals 78 of his 80 pitches were knuckleballs. No reason to look for anything else.
Just find it, guess where it will be and whack!
LAcarl519 - August 22, 2009

Of course.. with Lou it’s like.. OK… NOW I’m giving you one more last chance. I mean it this time..no wait.. this time, next ti.., ok only three more times… period.. after that I’m really going to consider not giving you that many more last chances. i really might mean it this time!!!

katie casey - August 22, 2009

LAcarl519 - August 22, 2009

carmen_fanzone - August 22, 2009

katie casey - August 22, 2009
I just came in from walking the dogs
And I found that Aaron Miles was in the lineup and we are already down 1-0.
I take it all back. I’m not sure I would sleep with Anne Hathaway to ensure a Cubs championship.
As Katie sort of put it earlier, If they don’t give a f—-, why should I give a f—-?
Worf - August 22, 2009
FOX tv sports
Hey Al: Don’t the idiots at FOX and MLB realize how much money they’re losing because most baseball fans refuse to watch Yankee games. I’ve gotten accustomed to hearing Pat & Ron’s game audio while sorta watching the games on Yahoo. The thing that irks me the most is that I’m not allowed to watch the live games on MLB-TV either. I think we ought to get a rebate for these games. Don’t worry, I’m not going to hold my breath. I’ve done some pretty dumb things in the last 65 years, but even I’m not that stupid. Then again, like you said, I haven’t been missing much lately.
