if gregg did not blow game in florida we would have 2 out 3 there and tonight you can shake it off with 2 out of 3 in cinncy too.
but tonight sucks more when you think of their journeyman minor league starter and we have 0 runs. and that blown game in miami. obviously you take 4-2. but i do not take 3-3 when we very easily could and probably should be 5-1.

By the way great move posting about your son on a cubs message board. I work in law enforcement and in the interest of your family and your son. I would stop posting pictures of your son and his baseball team on a pubic forum where any old sicko can use that information. Nothing personal but in my line of work just take it at face value and believe me. Its not in you or your familys best interest only bad things can happen no matter how obvious it is that you love your son and are proud of him. Weren't you just telling people they had no power over you for telling you to relax?
And now you are upset about people not taking your unwanted advice. Hmm.
Please read your posts and try to refer to yourself as a professional. This is a fan site about a GAME. You have so little control of yourself you have to resort to name calling fellow fans over disagreements about a GAME. I can’t believe you have had much success in law enforcement if this is your personality.
You should know better, as much or more than anyone else how inappropriate that is. Don’t know if you’ll be around long, but you owe Sue (another) apology as well as Drew, Al, and the rest of us who were subjected to this stuff.
I just keep reading your worsd and thinking how disgraceful and unnecessary. This is not life and death, it is entertainment. Please keep it in perspective.
I know where, nowhere to be found because you have no nerves or intestinal fortitude. NO blown saves at home in less pressure filled environment. But on road in adverse conditions he chokes big times and gets hit harder than a Chick on Prom Night.

ya and I agree normally. but lack of effort and no intensity is what is inexcusable. missed tag. pick off. milton pulling up on foul ball. having to wait on fontenot to get to first. miles well being miles.
so is her attitude. being all over me. calling me out for having an opinon. i was being respectable. and even agreeing some. just offering my opinion.
I have seen how she operates. Knows nothing about baseball and has her favorites both in here and on field. If you disagree with her she goes on a crusade after you and she has no power here. all she offers is cheering and saying poop. this is a baseball board about cubs lets talk about baseball. I understand she does not know baseball. she could at least try to learn. People here know the game and have played the game. she has not.
your right and sorry for calling you a name. inexcusable but you been on me like white on rice just because you disagree. and to be fair you do it to everyone if they attack your "favorite" players. I call it like I see it.
I’m having a hard time getting particularly upset about this, honestly. This is exactly the kind of pitcher that makes us look like crap. Took the series. Let’s go beat the crap outa the Rockies.
Lehr isn’t fantastic, but he’s not a career minor leaguer. Four years in the majors. He did some good work in AAA. It’s not like Gorzelanny wasn’t in the minors this year, and we were VERY happy with what we got.
The loss sucks. But it’s not like we were playing a college baseball team. Any MLB team has the ability to beat any other MLB team. Even the Nationals have won games.
one theory would be lack of scouting and that maybe they don’t have any video on the guy. This of course assume that they rely heavily on video to determine pitching tendencies.
Fontenot missing a tag. Fontenot going slow when covering first on a bunt. Milton pulling up on foul ball.
Miles being relaxed and well miles being miles. Shark not holding runners on. Koyie Hill throwing behind runner. Way too many early count outs against a guy that walked 6 last time out. a lot of that shows lack of effort. and did you watch the game they just looked slow and not into it? I ask cuz I know sometimes you do radio. It just did not look good out there tonight.
325 appearances in the minors vs. 67 in the bigs.
Yes, anyone can win on a given night, but this was a terrible performance for a team in a pennant race.
he has no discernible skill. i think he might be the worst player i’ve ever seen, and he’s quickly becoming one of my least favorite cubs of all time. he simply has no business being anywhere near the field.
Rich Harden against Sandy Koufax, I mean Justin Lehr. 2 out of 3 seems like a letdown.
I can just picture what happens if Miles gets released… St. Louis picks him up and he hits .300 again.
Cedeno was a hell of a better backup than Miles. Miles may actually be worse than Neifi, at least Neifi played nice defense. Altough, weren’t there rumors that Neifi was a jackass in the clubhouse?
3 out of 4 in Colorado sure would be nice, wouldn’t it?
I am blaming this loss and every single other loss the Cubs suffer for the rest of the decade on Aaron Miles. Even if he’s cut tomorrow. Every single loss is Aaron Miles’ fault.
And Lou’s for actually playing the loser.
(BTW, sorry about the reply, I accidentally posted before I finished my rant)
I declare this

let's take the series in Denver
and go 7-3. It’s road baseball, going .500 is nominal.
drewishdrewid - August 5, 2009
especially considering
how bad the Cubs have been on the road
bheidge - August 5, 2009
no way we sweep colorado in denver. they are palying very very well.
should be thinking of split to be satisfied at best go and I mean at best go 3-1.
MandMexpress12 - August 5, 2009
alright
I’d be happy with a 6-4 road trip.
drewishdrewid - August 5, 2009
ya at face value. but not with greggs disaster and tonight quitting b4 game started. this guy throwing CG shutout is inexcusable for a team like cubs.

MandMexpress12 - August 5, 2009
your right and sorry for calling you a name. inexcusable but you been on me like white on rice just because you disagree. and to be fair you do it to everyone if they attack your "favorite" players. I call it like I see it.

I don’t know. I’m googling “Firefly curses”. I think it’s Mandarin. Clutch16 called the characters “Hanzi”, I think they’re also called “Kanji”.

Can’t afford for the whole team to take a mental night off when you’re in a pennant race.
Inexcusable.
ElHijoDelRonSanto - August 5, 2009
If they all decided to just take this one night off all at once
I’m ok with that. Let’s get it back together on Friday up where the air is rare.
Clutch16 - August 5, 2009
why would you be okay for taking night off ever in professional sports. compltely inexcusable.
MandMexpress12 - August 5, 2009
Because over 162 games, you can't expect total concentration at all times from all players
Guys get distracted, or tired, or lazy, or sick, or hungover. Them’s the breaks. What you hope to see is that it’s not a habit.
So we had a crap night – shrug it off. Laundry day tomorrow and then we can get the bats going again in Coors.
Clutch16 - August 5, 2009
I do not think thats too hard to ask for. I think Jim and Lou would agree as would the vast majority of ball players on every team.
MandMexpress12 - August 5, 2009
actually
now that I think about it, having an off day tomorrow isn’t so bad for the players; let’s them acclimatize to the altitude.
drewishdrewid - August 5, 2009
It will help them get used to it, too.
mattvegas - August 5, 2009
your reasing and beliefs are absolutely shocking.
MandMexpress12 - August 5, 2009
you don't agree, then?

Colorado Cubbies Fan - August 5, 2009
well.
I’m having a hard time getting particularly upset about this, honestly. This is exactly the kind of pitcher that makes us look like crap. Took the series. Let’s go beat the crap outa the Rockies.
drewishdrewid - August 5, 2009
I agree 100% drew, especially after St. Louis' loss earlier today
ambrosiadreams - August 5, 2009
stl's loss makes this worse in my opinion.
add colorado’s loss, i think they lost, and the cubs blew an opportunity to inch forward. very disappointing.
buckmulligan - August 5, 2009
baseball is a game of numbers. we're still in first.... technically at least....
let’s go beat the rockies…..
MinnesotaFan - August 5, 2009
Lehr
This was his second start of the season. Before that, he hadn’t appeared in the majors since 2006.
ElHijoDelRonSanto - August 5, 2009
You hate it when the game is over with none out in the 2nd....
You watch 8 innings for naught
CubFaninNY - August 5, 2009
Maybe, just maybe
Miles’ performance has earned him a DFA.
A man can dream, can’t he?
Clutch16 - August 5, 2009
if that happened
it would almost make this loss worthwhile. He has no business on a major league roster.
ambrosiadreams - August 5, 2009
I come back from 3.5 weeks of vacation
and lo and behold, the Cubs in first place!
This is good news right? Or are we expecting they don’t lose any the rest of the season?
CubFanInCanberra (9387milesfromWrigley) - August 5, 2009
No kidding, we lose perspective sometimes.
KaliCub - August 5, 2009
For Cubs fans
or certainly for long-term fans:
losing perspective = losing mind :)
CubFanInCanberra (9387milesfromWrigley) - August 5, 2009
Some of us
Always expect that
Clutch16 - August 5, 2009
I don't expect them to win every night
At the same time, I don’t expect them to get 4-hit by a career minor-leaguer.
ElHijoDelRonSanto - August 5, 2009
look
Lehr isn’t fantastic, but he’s not a career minor leaguer. Four years in the majors. He did some good work in AAA. It’s not like Gorzelanny wasn’t in the minors this year, and we were VERY happy with what we got.
The loss sucks. But it’s not like we were playing a college baseball team. Any MLB team has the ability to beat any other MLB team. Even the Nationals have won games.
drewishdrewid - August 5, 2009
lack of effort is what is troubling.
MandMexpress12 - August 5, 2009
eh.
I don’t like it, but I’m not sure that’s what we saw. No-speed junk-dealers have long been the Cubs’ achillies heel.
drewishdrewid - August 5, 2009
Something I hope they start addressing
if not this year, in the offseason. Why do we seem to have less plate discipline against this sort of pitcher?
chitownhawkeye - August 5, 2009
I really don't know.
granted, I haven’t followed the Cubs for very long, but it’s been an issue for as long as I can remember.
drewishdrewid - August 5, 2009
Well...
one theory would be lack of scouting and that maybe they don’t have any video on the guy. This of course assume that they rely heavily on video to determine pitching tendencies.
TheRiot Police - August 5, 2009
Fontenot missing a tag. Fontenot going slow when covering first on a bunt. Milton pulling up on foul ball.
Miles being relaxed and well miles being miles. Shark not holding runners on. Koyie Hill throwing behind runner. Way too many early count outs against a guy that walked 6 last time out. a lot of that shows lack of effort. and did you watch the game they just looked slow and not into it? I ask cuz I know sometimes you do radio. It just did not look good out there tonight.
MandMexpress12 - August 5, 2009
I listened on the radio.
obviously, it wasn’t good.
drewishdrewid - August 5, 2009
He is 32. This was his second ML start.
325 appearances in the minors vs. 67 in the bigs.
Yes, anyone can win on a given night, but this was a terrible performance for a team in a pennant race.
ElHijoDelRonSanto - August 5, 2009
oh
I agree that it was a bad performance.
drewishdrewid - August 5, 2009
how in the hell do we play aaron miles.
he has no discernible skill. i think he might be the worst player i’ve ever seen, and he’s quickly becoming one of my least favorite cubs of all time. he simply has no business being anywhere near the field.
buckmulligan - August 5, 2009
I'm saving all my disgust for Todd Hundley
But Miles has quietly moved into the second spot on my list.
Clutch16 - August 5, 2009
A like-minded person on Todd Hundley!
He couldn’t do anything. And was bad at all of them. I guess Hundley was a minus 5 tools player.
mattvegas - August 5, 2009
Hundley
did get us two quality players for 2003…so he was not totally worthless in the end.
TheRiot Police - August 5, 2009
Yeah. HUndley was break-even
Because he got us Grudz and Karros. Those two turned out to be mensches.
I doubt we’d get a teabagging in exchange for Aaron the Nutscratcher.
northernsails - August 5, 2009
He can't hit
He can’t throw
He can’t field
Hilary Lee - August 5, 2009

Shows who should be starting at SS from now on.
I wasn’t a fan of Aaron Miles before this, now I am even less. You need to know how to take pitches!
Vermont Cubs Fan - August 5, 2009
I should never look at pitching matchups again...
3 out of 4 in Colorado sure would be nice, wouldn’t it?
cubfanwill - August 5, 2009
Why oh why
Does Lou Pinella hate winning so much??
NO MORE AARON MILES!!
He should have STAYED on the DL
northernsails - August 5, 2009
And you know what?
I am blaming this loss and every single other loss the Cubs suffer for the rest of the decade on Aaron Miles. Even if he’s cut tomorrow. Every single loss is Aaron Miles’ fault.
And Lou’s for actually playing the loser.
(BTW, sorry about the reply, I accidentally posted before I finished my rant)
