not much to say though. This game’s not been the most fun to follow, in fact I’m finding it more rewarding to do my billing, the other reason I came into work today…
Soriano once again swinging at pitches in the dirt, and can’t get a hit when it counts for the last 55 years. They didn’t get any breaks because you have to make your breaks.
for the most part this team has had always difficulty hitting when it counts. Sure I over stated “55 years” But if you think that this team excels in the clutch good for you. Lee and Ramy get clutch hits.
I probably underestimated the lack of clutch hitting a bit today. I think they still hit above their RISP average, but a hit or two in key spots would have helped.
Still, Wells was off his game, the defense was bad and the bullpen couldn’t hold it.

7 runs in the top of the 9th
And 3 in the top of the 10th. Just you wait…
Clutch16 - August 9, 2009
I like it...
I’ll be disappointed to miss it.. gotta leave for work in a minute
CubFanInCanberra (9387milesfromWrigley) - August 9, 2009
ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Leadoff double, and then a four pitch walk.
Apparently this is one of those days when no one in our bullpen wants to actually pitch.
Besides, surprsingly, Heilman
Illicat - August 9, 2009
and then Grabow starts to pitch!
Nice DP
Illicat - August 9, 2009
I think it's just five or six of us left here
chilango2 - August 9, 2009
About as many as who are left in the stadium
Clutch16 - August 9, 2009
I think those last 3 rox runs...
cleared the ledges… lol
CubFanInCanberra (9387milesfromWrigley) - August 9, 2009
I'm lurking around today
not much to say though. This game’s not been the most fun to follow, in fact I’m finding it more rewarding to do my billing, the other reason I came into work today…

that movie would’ve been good.
chilango2 - August 9, 2009
Never actually saw it
Seemed pretty amusing from the preview.
Clutch16 - August 9, 2009
If you can get past
his shit-eating grin, it’s worth your while.
chilango2 - August 9, 2009
his love interest is gorgeous
Illicat - August 9, 2009
About 250 yards from here...
eths - August 9, 2009
16 hits, 4 runs
that’s a bit silly looking
Illicat - August 9, 2009
Usual lack of clutch hitting will do that
kcjones - August 9, 2009
Did I hear correctly? Lou got tossed?
Not that seems to have helped.
eths - August 9, 2009
In the 2nd
Clutch16 - August 9, 2009
Cubs 17 hits is season's new high-water mark
Clutch16 - August 9, 2009
Only the Cubs could figure out how to do that...
and lose
kcjones - August 9, 2009
Yah, they never cease to surprise...
But on the other hand, 17 hits are better than one or two. And they won’t, I hope, succeed in making hits so meaningless in future games.
eths - August 9, 2009
Let's hope the past few months aren't any kind of indication

17 Hits and only 4 runs must be some kind of record, but at least Fuku is on 2nd
eths - August 9, 2009
no any more
Illicat - August 9, 2009
Still only 17 hits, tho
Clutch16 - August 9, 2009
And that may be the first time that sentence has ever been typed

Illicat - August 9, 2009
was a good shot, but we need baserunners
Illicat - August 9, 2009
gonna miss the end of the comeback rally
enjoy the win all… I’m off to salt mines… :)
CubFanInCanberra (9387milesfromWrigley) - August 9, 2009
They have mines in Australia?
What ore do they produce? Vegemite?
Clutch16 - August 9, 2009
g'day!
CubfaninRaleigh(869milestoWrigley) - August 9, 2009
those hits probably would have left wrigley
jesus christos - August 9, 2009
Sorry Koyie, too close to take in a game like this
Illicat - August 9, 2009
first pitch swinging ground out
only fitting
jesus christos - August 9, 2009
Game over.
Oh, well – get ’em tomorrow.
Clutch16 - August 9, 2009
FUDGE!
CubfaninRaleigh(869milestoWrigley) - August 9, 2009
And here I thought it would be
the biggest comeback in Cubs history. And a 30-hit game. :)
Get the split tomorrow and get home.
Not Bruce Froemming - August 9, 2009
We need the split for a .500 road trip
eths - August 9, 2009
Exactly
Gorzelanny needs to be as good Monday as he was last week.
Not Bruce Froemming - August 9, 2009
Good night. 20 minutes past midnight here.
eths - August 9, 2009
Guten nacht!
Vermont Cubs Fan - August 9, 2009
Wow, and Brenly with a bit of a parting shot at the team
when they were replaying Lou’s ejection
“at least SOMEBODY in the road grays showed some fire today”
Illicat - August 9, 2009
That was a terrible call.
I hope the Cubs get fired up about it tomorrow.
Vermont Cubs Fan - August 9, 2009
Yes... one single call
led to a six-run loss
Worf - August 9, 2009
who knows maybe the cubs would score 50000 runs in that inning if it didnt end
jesus christos - August 9, 2009
It wasn't just that call.
The Cubs looked flat today, rather listless.
Vermont Cubs Fan - August 9, 2009
I don't mean to get on your case, VCF,
but I get tired of hearing the “they looked flat today” comment from various people after every loss.
I don’t see how a team with 17 hits or whatever can look “flat.”
Their pitching wasn’t very good today, and they didn’t get any breaks.
I think some of this is projection by fans — they make me feel deflated, therefore they’re “flat.”
Not Bruce Froemming - August 9, 2009
3 Errors, missed cutoffs,
Soriano once again swinging at pitches in the dirt, and can’t get a hit when it counts for the last 55 years. They didn’t get any breaks because you have to make your breaks.
Grockcubs - August 9, 2009
"Can't get a hit when it counts for the last 55 years"
Did the Hyperbole Fairy visit you last night?
Tomorrow is another day.
Not Bruce Froemming - August 9, 2009
Correct, that's what makes baseball so great.
You can always get ’em tomorrow.
And we will!
Vermont Cubs Fan - August 9, 2009
Come on
for the most part this team has had always difficulty hitting when it counts. Sure I over stated “55 years” But if you think that this team excels in the clutch good for you. Lee and Ramy get clutch hits.
Grockcubs - August 10, 2009
Good point, sorry about that.
You made the case much better than I did.
And you’re right about them not getting any breaks.
For me, it was the lack of clutch hits that prevented us from staying in this game.
Vermont Cubs Fan - August 9, 2009
There was some of that, certainly
But you also can’t give up 11 runs and expect to win.
Not Bruce Froemming - August 9, 2009
Very true.
Your points have been much stronger than mine.
Sorry about earlier, I stopped paying attention to the game after it became 6-3.
Vermont Cubs Fan - August 9, 2009
Not paying attention after that
probably was a good idea. :-)
Not Bruce Froemming - August 9, 2009
Yes, very much.
I checked in from time to time afterwards, but it was hopelessly out of reach by that point.
Vermont Cubs Fan - August 9, 2009
Upon further reflection
I probably underestimated the lack of clutch hitting a bit today. I think they still hit above their RISP average, but a hit or two in key spots would have helped.
Still, Wells was off his game, the defense was bad and the bullpen couldn’t hold it.
Not Bruce Froemming - August 9, 2009
To be honest, I don't know if there was one single reason the Cubs lost today.
Wells was off, the group of errors by the Cubs, the lack of clutch hitting, and giving up 11 runs.
Recipe for a loss.
Vermont Cubs Fan - August 9, 2009
Put it all together
and it’s still crap. :)
Not Bruce Froemming - August 9, 2009
Horrible game
I wouldn’t be so worried if players weren’t dropping like flies
Mapmaker - August 9, 2009
If only the Cubs' fly balls were dropping...
Blue Heron - August 9, 2009
...in something other than the opponents' gloves.
Vermont Cubs Fan - August 9, 2009
dude, still laughing at your sig
