Cubs Fans To A Certain Extent Spoiled?
After 2 straight seasons of getting to the playoffs, some fans just assumed that the regular season would like an “exhibition season” leading up to the playoffs for the Cubs. The dreaded injury bug among other things bit the Cubs in a big way this year. 2009 has been a disappointing season, but the Cubs are much better off than they were in 2006.
In a way, it is good that this season of over .500 baseball is being considered a down year. That shows how far the organization has come. The Cubs still aren’t the Red Sox or Yankees. The Cubs aren’t at a point where they can expect to be in postseason play every year. I know that’s a great goal to have. I hope the Cubs get to that point in the near future, but they aren’t there yet.

Anyone who assumed the regular season was a moot point (an exhibition season) is incredibly naive or just inexperienced...
And I guess I have to agree with you memphiscub- I hadn’t thought about that perspective, but when .500 IS considered a down year for the Cubs, then we HAVE made progress…
I guess we just all hoped that the next .500 season would be after a WS title…

But I do hear the rather rotund lady with the blond braids and the viking helmet warming up her pipes…
