Over the last few days, I have posted a few "write your own caption" photos, and no one's really contributed one, due, I suppose, to being focused on other issues.
However, I think today's photo should result in quite a few good caption ideas. Fire away! I will choose what I think is the best one and send the poster a copy of the DVD "Chasing October". (Which, unfortunately, we are still doing.)

Jeff Samardzija is making his second major league start. The first one wasn't very good. Let's hope for improvement -- I really would like to see the Shark pitch well so he has a shot at the 2010 staff. He has never faced the Brewers.
Chris Narveson is the very definition of a journeyman. Originally drafted by the Cardinals in the 2nd round in 2000, he was traded to the Rockies in 2004 as part of the deal that brought Larry Walker to St. Louis. Then Colorado sent him to Boston for Byung-Hyun Kim. He was later waived by the Red Sox, claimed by the Cardinals who then let him go as a six-year free agent; the Brewers signed him before the 2008 season. In his minor league career he played for: Johnson City, Peoria (when it was a Cardinals affiliate), Potomac, Johnson City again, Peoria again, Palm Beach, Tennessee, Tulsa, Pawtucket, Memphis, Palm Beach again, Memphis again, Palm Beach and Memphis for a third time, and Nashville. Just think of the frequent-flyer (or maybe it's frequent-bus) miles. He has never started against the Cubs, but threw one inning of relief in each of three games at Wrigley Field in July, allowing a total of four hits and a run. Mike Fontenot was 2-for-3 against him with a double.
Today's game is again cable-only; CSN Chicago and FSN Wisconsin. For other games today see the MLB.com Mediacenter.

Give these youngins a chance....
Colvin, Shark, etc.
Maybe we’ll get surprised like we did with Wells.

I agree on Colvin
He deserves a chance… but unless Shark’s picked up another pitch or two since we saw him last, this could get ugly.

Al, re: Tiger Stadium.
Various factions tried and tried to come up with plans to save portions of the park.
Some were grand, some more realistic. They ranged from turning portions of the park into apartments while keeping the field, to a full restoration and pitch to make it a minor league park.
Even Ernie Harwell formed a preservation group and had a plan that would have preserved a small portion of the stands and the field for use as a city park.
In the end, the city just felt they didn’t want any of the associated costs of maintenance. Apparently they would rather have yet another empty lot in the city of Detroit.
Sad indeed.
Zeke - September 23, 2009
I knew about the preservation efforts.
Sad that none of them succeeded. I was glad I got to see the place in 1999 before it closed.

I have a lot of memories of seeing games there when I was a kid, teen and in my 20s.
Summer nights while in college sitting in the upper deck bleachers in CF smoking cigars and drinking beers watching Tom Veryzer at short, Gary Sutherland at second. Ron Leflore in CF Rusty Staub in RF. John Hiller pitching. Yes, the Tabbies stunk.
We had the place to ourselves. That is until that darn kid Fidrych came along, and then people started to notice the Tigers again.

Speak your mind, but at least be honest.
I detest the idiots that come onto this site and post their stupid comments, which indicate that Wrigley Field is nothing more than a 40,000 seat Cubs fan beer garden, filled with a bunch of rowdy alcoholics that have no interest whatsoever in the way the Cubs are playing baseball on any given day. I believe in the 14th amendment, but at least these dumbo’s should exercise their freedom of speech to tell the truth.
Case in point; Once the comments that these trashy people post here are eliminated, the reminder of the comments posted generally come from “Cubs Nation” fans which, express their sentiments be they good or otherwise to the manageability of the Cubs organization. The Cubbies, like the Yankees and Red Sox have always had the biggest and most loyal fan bases in major league baseball.
In conclusion, I suspect that the morons that criticize the Cubs organization and it’s fans have no self values and don’t even have a bit of loyalty to any team or anyone including their mothers.
